In the broad strokes, sure. They kept the parts that fit the story they wanted to tell and changed the parts that didn't to better suit their story. That's what all adaptations do.

The end result was still Batman.

Define "still Batman". Because Adam West's Batman used shark repellent to make a shark explode. George Clooney's Batman had bat-nipples on his suit. Christian Bale's Batman talked with a mouth was full of marbles and retired after deciding he'd been Batman long enough. Ben Affleck's Batman uses guns to murder his enemies. Telltale Batman may or may not be BFFs with the Joker.

FUN FACT: Batman has killed at least one person in every Batman film ever produced.

Batman: The Brave and Bold literally opens with a character addressing the audience to talk about how there are many wild and varied interpretations of the character and that's fine. There's no such thing as a "correct" version of Batman.

Got to give Dan Lewis credit for not being the jealous type around Eddie.

So...got around to watch the movie...and...well, I am kind of disappointed. I don't know I expected something really crazy from it, but I was mostly bored by it. Maybe I expected too much camp after all the buzz surrounding the movie.

Sequel officially happening[1]

Well that's not surprising. But I am genuinely curious to see just how brutally violent this new Carnage is going to be. The answer needs to be "extremely."

Glad it's happening. Really wishing they'd recast Kasady. Woody Harrelson just doesn't feel like the right actor to play Carnage. He's supposed to be a zany, hammy psychopath, whereas Harrelson's style is more of a subdued menace.

My dream casting for Kasady has always been Jim Carrey. Loud, bombastic, energetic, and totally detached from basic sensibility. Harrelson is none of those things.

Harrelson is fine

They just need to recast his wig.

Plus "Carnage is supposed to be X"

Well Venom and Eddie's relationship isn't suppose to be a romantic buddy thing. So ya know, not like the Film's been shy about re-inventing characters.

Harrelson can be pretty damn manic when he wants to be. He conserves his energy for these moments. Guy can get intense.

I hope the inclusion of Carnage means that the studio has been made to understand that the wacky, over the top symbiote moments were the parts everyone actually liked. I mean, it has to, right?

By himself Woody Harrelson is an odd choice. But pair him next to Tom Hardy and it's hard to argue, that's quite the powerhouse cast.
