Rouncy, Battle!

Aha! So it was exactly what Rouncy had suspected. Well, no matter. He might not have been equipped with means of taking down such creatures conventionally, but as his four years had taught him, even a strong enough hit from the most mundane of weapons could do the trick.

"Bite like a wolf! Soar like an eagle!" The old (made-up) war cry of Du Aigles of Wolf Crest on his lips, Rouncy stepped forward, the Wolf Blade resting already in his hands. He moved a little clumsily, but indeed fast, with a singular strike to cleave one of the undead in two.

Sylphid Forest, the road to Wurd, the seventh hour

With the reins to the middle wagon in his hands, Tams was a city boy. Not fond of the boonies, but fond of the rubes and their general gullibility, he was looking forward to Wurd. And from Wurd? Who really knew? All the blonde quartermaster knew was that there was opportunity to be had.

It was a fine morning, he had to be honest, not withstanding the path Mira had led them through. And then that morning was ruined with the slow halt and the ambush preceded by the use of so much magic.

As the horses began to panic, Tams let out a yell and fumbled for his hand crossbow, loosing a snapshot at one of the undead shambling from the treeline. Much as he had an idea that magic would be more effective, he was definitely not as prepared in that department.

Soseki, Engaging

Soseki drew Stinger back as the undead appeared, a look of disgust on his face. His fighting style was not going to be very effective on beings that didn't feel pain.

"Ugh, living corpses. I am not exactly the best at dealing with this. But I shall do my best."

A white sigil glows on the ground just in front of his feet as he channeled a spell, Pain Spikes.

"Have at you, foul creatures of decay!"

With a twirl, he stabs Stinger right into the center of the sigil, a row of luminous spikes erupting out of the ground in an attempt to impale the undead upon them. Soseki felt the twinge of pain as the Double Edged Agony enchantment took hold, but didn't even flinch. This was nothing.

Now this is just plain Wyrd

Iyo's expression turned sour as the undead creatures appeared, hindering their progress. "Foul creatures have you no courtesy?" He remarked sarcastically. He stepped towards the group of shambling corpses, as shadows from the area around trailed to his fingers. Bringing his hands together, the shadows condensed into a violet and black orb, crackling with energy, before Iyo made a slicing motion with his hands, sending the dark energy out in a wide wave towards several of the abominations.

"Let us make quick work of them, shall we? We have places to be." Iyo drew his weapons before charging towards the next nearest abomination, and slashed wide as he unfolded one of his blades into fan.

Sylphid Road
...Maybe Itellia should've paid more credence to that rumour, huh. She expected some very foolhardy bandits to be the ones jumping the group of visibly armed travelers, not...these things.

In any case, a blade wasn't going to cut it. Literally. Not much point trying to go for the organs when they don't need one, right? Quickly, the sabre in her hand shifted form into a morningstar, larger and heavier than the thing before it. This should do much better!

She took to Rouncy's side, ignoring his choice of battlecry as she tried to bat the heads of the undead straight off of their bodies. Now, she remembered some old adage about praying while fighting these unholy things, but she was never familiar with those kinds of things. So, with each blow she shouted "Back!" Some undead farmer, still clutching at a pitchfork, had his head caved in, and she shouted "Back!" What might've been a traveler from another land and another life stood before her, and now being very much in the fighting mood, she screamed "BACK TO THE GRAVE WITH YOU, SO HELP ME GOD!"

Sylphid Road

Osmund's face lit up under his hood as the horde of the undead began shambling towards the convoy. Not quite registering that the undead horde was in fact, undead, Osmund began running towards the horde crying out "My brothers! It is good to see that you have finally accepted the gifts of Morbus!"

Road. To Wurd. Word.

With those fighting at a distance taking aim, Trevor had to make the effort to stay out of their line of fire as he moved into melee range at a cautious pace before following up with a blindingly fast lunge to either throw one of the lowlier undead creatures off balance or run one through with Dragon's Tooth as he nodded in agreement with Iyo.

"Indeed. Let us dispose of these...things and move on." ...Of course, Itellia's shouting made him wince, shaking his head with a slight smile. "I doubt they're going to listen, Lady Itell. Conserve your energy...and maybe allow our comrades to concentrate, mm?"

Hope you weren't expecting anything witty here. Maybe some day.

On The Road

Rosa had been hanging back near Talia when the attack had started, preferring to stick to a supporting role, but when Osmund moved forward, shouting out to his "brothers," she decided to step in, and quickly, by pulling back on his robe. "No no, Osmund, the undead are not your brothers, even if they are festering with diseases."

Wolfgang's fingers were still shooting the bright red beams. He managed to take down a good number of the ugly things before his concentration was broken by Osmund's shouting.

As Wolfgang turned his head to scold him, he saw Rosa holding him back by his clothing. Wolfgang faced the enemies and resumed concentration. As the red beams resumed firing from his outstretched fingers, he thanked Rosa while still staring at the enemy.

"Danke, Sister Rosa."

Road to Wurd: Zombie Apocalypse

"It's bullshit, is what it is!" Talia replied to Victoria, dodging rotting arms and gnashing teeth even as she threw the enchanted stones at the undead mass. Immediately, chains of flame erupted from the stones, wrapping around the undead and burning them to a crisp.

"It's Earth prana! Massive, massive Earth prana! Never seen anything like it...most likely a Nature spell...theoretically its possible to link two places with an Earth Affinity Nature Spell but..."

As for the others, the undead really didn't seem to be that dangerous...they easily fell to the swordstrokes and magic spells of the Dragons. Mira's in particular wiped out a good few of the things in one fell swoop. The zombies were just too...mindless to do much other than stupidly walk into her bubbles.

However, the portals were dumping more and more of the things and the commander was getting wortied that they'd be swarmed by sheer numbers.

It was therefore an odd thing when suddenly, the portals blinked out of existence leaving thirty-odd zombie warriors for the mercenaries to deal with.

....It was odd, but she'd take it. Natalia retreated backward a bit, to a comparatively open space near the forest. She kneeled down and touched the ground.

"Clump them together! Lead them here!" She snapped.

Meanwhile, the Abomination was hit by the full brunt of Brand's and Barkley's attacks. The Gone literally blew the thing's head off and the flames did a number to its body.

...Which didn't seem to slow it down much, as the burning mutilated thing grabbed hold of its own head and threw it at Barkley, jaws snapping wildly.

Zombies on the Way to Wurd

Afar walked on foot, he prefered the feeling of the ground beneath him on his feet than being on horseback since he was a child, as the ominous feeling of Prana began, he drew his scimitar quickly, prepared for whatever may come out, anyone near him could feel the temperature in the air begin to descend.

Once the zombies showed themselves, he inspected the battlefield and slashed at a few of them, starting to make his way towards the abomination, he seemed calm and undeterred by the abhorrent sight of the undead, and indeed he was used to see things like this, especially from his time in the war.

When the beast seemed to be finished by Brand's and Barkley's efforts Ben-Horef watched it still, preferring to make sure it was really dead, you can never know with creatures created by magic. Especially not this kind, When the monster threw his head at the girl he sprinted towards it, pointing his sword at it direction and trying to impale through its jaw to catch it with the blade, barely getting there before it hit Barkley. A few moments afterwards, the soldier swung the head of the undead creature back towards it, the abomination might notice that the forehead was sporting a few weird horns that looked like giant sharp icicles pointed directly towards its deformed stomach.

Sylphid Forest, the road to Wurd, the seventh hour

Tams cursed and put his hand crossbow away. With his mace in one hand, he reached deep into his memories and the font of his power. Whatever he gathered wouldn't be as strong as the Dragons who were more capable, but it might be enough.

From his cover made of crates and supplies, the blue-coated quartermaster stood and loosed bolts of searing light at the wings of shambling formation, blasting limbs off of joints and holes into palid bodies.

"Thanks friend!" Regardless of whether or not that blocking maneuver would succeed, Barkley took no chances and slumped below the sides of the cart to reload. Her hands worked the action deftly, and she kept her mind clear for now. It wouldn't pay to start thinking now about the massive magic surge that was responsible for this, and how it was most likely just a test for something much greater, and all that other shit she shouldn't care about.

Barkley popped the cartridge out and loaded a vanilla bullet this time. With a sigh, she climbed out of the carriage, and started bookin' it over to Talia's location. The Gone couldn't generate enough menace to suppress and herd targets like a swarm of arrows could, and thus drawing their attention with it would be her best bet.

"What's the plan once we actually get them in here?" She asked, and kneeled next to the girl, balancing the Gone on her non-dominant arm's elbow, arm wrapped around to grasp her right elbow to make a little cradle for the rifle. Taking aim at one zombie, she popped off a shot, aiming for center mass in order to try and draw their fire.

Though Wolfgang was taking down scores of the undead, they continued to emerge from the glowing portals with alarming frequency. He needed something...bigger. This was when he decided to reveal what he had been doing all those late nights .

Wolfgang wasn't particularly skilled at magic, but he was very talented at subjecting himself to Training from Hell to master a particular spell or specialty. He had, for the past 20 years or so, been torturing himself to obtain learning the Bane and Support specialties. He still had yet to master Bane.

Wolfgang stopped firing the crimson rays. From the way he began to move his arms, it was fairly obvious he was channeling a spell. Most people would have expected another one of his hard-hitting damage spells, but suddenly, his eyes began to glow with the same color and luminescence of burning coals.

"Hahahahaha...I am ze ubermensch!"

Rather than continuing his scorching ray, he began to blast off fireball after fireball. Although his normal fireball spells were particularly powerful, these ones were in an entirely different league. Mobs of undead fell to his newly-enhanced flame.

Road to Wurd

Morgana cut off the creature's head with a final flourish. "Well talk more later." She said, knocking over its now cut apart body with a kick to the knee. Seeing more of the creatures arriving she channeled her magic and used her swords as hilts to throw out two tendrils at the nearest creatures. She then pulled swiftly, breaking their necks.

Morgana took a few steps back, a pool of shadows forming in front of her feet as she donned her mask. "Come now, I'm right here."

Georgia was quite shocked to see the undead pouring out the portals. Like Talia, she had assumed that the lich rumors were exaggerated at best. Apparently, that wasn't the case. But there was no use for second-guessing, now was the time to fight. She started with the enhancement of her outfit before running into the battle, aiming to cut down as many foes as possible.

Sylphid Wilfred
Just over her own shouting, Itellia heard the notion that apparently she was being far too disruptive with her inarticulate praying, and this means that she should cease at once! Well, that wasn't a reasonable request in her opinion, so she turned around to give her a very brief piece of her mind.

Trevor would see her spin about face, and over the course of a whole second her face would go from complete manic fury to the same demure, perpetually embarrassed look she had expressed very often before. "Oh...forgive me for that. Very, very sorry. Sorry."

She quickly went back to hitting things in the head again, muttering a much softer version of the same chant as she had before. If it weren't for exactly that man being the one to bring it up, it would've gone differently. But, pining can wait for later, she had a job to do. Itellia continued to beat against the horde, much more quietly this time.

Road to Wurd: Almost Done

"I trap them in one place and our heavy hitters take them out in one fell swoop!" Talia told Barkley, even as she prepared to make her enchantment.

Talia was a Nature Specialty Spellweaver by default and so she had to work her nagic on the environment.

"Lead them here!"

The zombies seemed to have taken Morgana's bait, the bulk of the undead moving towards her.

Itellia's wild screaming from earlier seemed to have attracted quite the attention as well, with a small horde moving towards her instead.

Meanwhile, with the Abomination, Afar had succesfully launched its head back towards the monster's body. The head gave a guttural shriek before it collided with its own stomach, the body far too slow and damaged to get out of the way.

The monster was bowled over by the impromptu projectile, landing on its back with its head impaling it with the crown of icicles. It was still moving feebly, but it was clear that it was done.

Mira could probably keep producing bubbles for hours. Trapping air in a bubble of water was very prana-efficient. More importantly, getting a hold of that lich's cloak as soon as possible was crucial. Mira released her shape, sinking into an amorphous blob, and attempted to sneak through the grass at a low profile and retrieve the cloak.

She asked, ever politely as she carefully walked to get the maximum number of zombies in her trap while still leading them towards the other casters.

Rouncy, Battling Still!

It didn't seem like the undead were any trouble at all, really. Then again, for all the macabre associated with it, what could a shambling corpse possibly do against a warrior that knew the thing was coming?

And now Commander Alvaine wished for them to herd what remained of the horde in one spot. "Ha, you yellow-bellied pus sacks! Come at me, if you still have any shred of dignity within!" He roared at the zombies around him as he began backing towards the spot Talia had appointed for the grand finale. At the same time, he tugged at them mentally as well, with a use of his own magic.

They might not have been animals or animalistic monsters, but he could at least try and influence them into chasing him with something as simple as a selection of some juvenile insults he could think of within these few seconds, relayed and strengthed via his Animal Dialogue. A monster was still a Monster, and if those zombies were of Earth Affinity, he had greater hold over them as well.

"Hah, they fall like the flies around their bodies do!"

Soseki disabled the enchantment on Stinger. It really wasn't necessary for opponents as weak as these, and no need to unnecessarily tire himself out so early in the day. Quick as lightning, he blitzes straight at some zombies, blade flying to pierce through their heads, followed by a swift kick to remove their necrotic, unsightly visages from his treasured family heirloom. With style, no less, a flourish as he dances between one zombie to the next, trying to herd them all together so that they could all be felled in one swoop. A smile crosses the Biamonte's face. Foes as simple-minded as these were too easy.
