Requesting that before Bette’s turn, Addelus moves to I18, uses his Vulnerary on Bette as a Bonus Action, continues to H19 and performs a Rally of Resilience (Res).

Aza laughs, primal joy sounding in her voice. “How?” she calls, pirouetting mid-stride, skidding backwards before kicking off to charge once again. “You can’t even catch me!”

And that power is mine alone!

Her axe ignites.

Azadokht dashes, moving to G16, attacking Ranger 8 with the Light Axe and continuing to L18.

The tide was now fully turned in the Company's favor. Whatever answer the Ranger captain might have had for Azadokht's taunt died in her lips as Cassandra drove her lance through the captain's heart once and for all, leaving the dancer to revel in her own carnage by cutting down the remaining soldier with another single swing.

Bette, on the other hand, found no better luck in sinking her eldritch tendrils into the priest's flesh, as the light of his divine magic seemed to beat the tentacles back even as he cast his own spell, which impacted impotently on the stone column she hid behind.

Only the priest and the swift spear-fighter remained, cut off from one another by the Company's skirmish line. The priest's eyes darted back and forth across the line, seeing trying in vain to find some way to aid his trapped comrade. Before he could conjure a bolt of magic, though, the spear-fighter called out, "Go, go! Leave me and fall back!"

With a tortured look, the priest obeyed, the knowledge that he was abandoning his friend to die wrenching at his insides. He hurried back to take cover behind the rear row of columns, and prayed for the comrades who had already fallen, and who were about to join them.

"Eyes on me, you bastards!" the spear-fighter shouted, hoping to dissuade pursuit of his friend. His eyes flickered to a figure behind some of the others; a familiar, if smaller, set of blue wings. Hurling a spear at Astra, he cried, "I took you down once, dragon, I can do it again!"

If Railen opens the door at J20 and there are enemies that will not double or one-shot Astra inside: Go to J21; otherwise, go to G14. Heal self with Heal Staff either way.

The door's locks yielded to Railen's skilled fingers in short order, and the door swung open to reveal a hall lined on one side with prison cells, all empty but for the largest along the back wall. There, a middle-aged man in blue robes puttered about his cell, grumbling to himself as he stroked his beard.

"Blasted cretins, late again with my supper. So what if the castle's under attack? Serves them right for stealing from me. Oh, but I'll be on top again one day, you wait and see. Soon as Leoran comes, then they'll be sorry."

The jailkeeper had been about to yell at his obnoxious charge to shut up for the tenth time when the door creaked open and an unfamiliar figure appeared in its frame.

"Blast it, attack!" he ordered his assistants, and charged to defend his post. Unfortunately for him, Railen easily ducked his thrust and rose up blade-first, slipping right between the plates of his armor and skewering his heart in one go.

"You bastard!" the next soldier cried, only to meet the same fate as the wiry rogue proved vastly superior in skill and speed.

The remaining guard held back, letting her fallen comrades keep the foe at bay while she charged her spell. Blades of wind filled the doorway, giving Railen nowhere to dodge, and although her second blast lacked the charged punch of the first, it was enough to bring Railen to the floor.

Brushing with death one too many times today, Railen would need time to fully recover, even with magic. He could still fight through to the end of the battle, but his ability and reflexes would be impaired, and he would need additional time once it was over to rest.

As Bette rained down barrage after barrage of dark magic on the last ranger's defensive position, the magic began to eat around the edges of the pillar, draining the priest's strength. In desperation, he stepped out of cover and let loose with a vengeful ray of his own. Where it made contact with Bette's spell, the light was devoured by the darkness, but enough made it through to pierce through her chest like a holy arrow. Bette just grit her teeth and kept up her assault, and even the grace of the Goddess could not protect the ranger from her devastation. He fell to the floor, sapped of life. The hall was clear.

If Sophia ends her turn in range to do so: Move adjacent to her (avoiding enemy attack range if at all possible) and heal her with Heal Staff. Otherwise, defend.

Going after everyone else: if the King hasn't been freed, Railen has stamina, and is able to reach the desired location then dash to I25 and use Unlock. If the King hasn't been freed and Railen doesn't have stamina then move to I23. If the King has been freed or Railen can't reach the desired locations then move to H14 and defend.

Azadokht performs a Dance of Stamina for Addelus and moves to H12.

Requesting that, for his first turn, Addelus moves to I25 and uses the Unlock Staff on the door at I26.

Also requesting that, should Bette’s designated move be set to take her in range of it, for his second turn Addelus moves to J18 and prepares a heal for Bette with the Physic Staff.

Hearing a familiar voice coming from beyond the door, once the final prison guard was dispatched by Sophia's axe, Addelus raced inside to find his father, the King of Frael, pacing and muttering to himself inside his cell.

"Father!" he cried in relief, rushing up to the bars. "I feared I'd never see you again!"

The king paused in his tracks, and squinted at the prince, gears of recognition turning slowly. "Boy? Is that you?"

"Yes, father! My friends and I are fighting to liberate the castle as we speak." Addelus looked around the dungeon, searching for more faces. "Where are mother and my sisters?"

The king scoffed. "Pah! Bloody Vissans let them go as soon as the invasion was over, while I've been stuck in here ever since the trial. Can you believe the nerve of them? Putting a king on trial?"

Addelus blinked a few times, as if trying to cleanse the confusion from his mind's eye. "But... but then where are they?"

"The Vissans let them keep the summer palace. They were staying there, last we spoke some months ago."

"They stopped letting you have visitors?"

"No, I told her to stop bothering me if all she was going to do was fret about where the bo- where you had disappeared to."

Addelus started to speak, but the words caught on a nagging hook in his mind. For a moment he thought the last year of imprisonment must have changed his father, but on reflection, he had always been like this. The last year hadn't changed the king, it had changed Addelus. His time with the Company, with people like Tigra and Malia, experiencing the way they treated him and others with respect and compassion, he had at some point come to expect such common courtesy for himself. Even his enemies like Greham and... Diane... had given him more regard than the King of Frael ever had.

He shook his head, focusing on the here and now. There would be time to deal with his family's demons later. There were more pressing matters here.

"Father, we have to find the fragment of the Fire Emblem. With it, we can defeat Vissan, and free the kingdom. Do you know where it is?"

The king yawned and scratched his beard. "That old legend? Pshaw, nonsense. My grandfather kept such relics as curiosities in the treasury. I should have had them all thrown out ages ago."

"The treasury?" Addelus groaned. "Then we're too late. Vissan surely cleared it out."

"Ah," the King said, "not so fast. Of course I expected the Vissans to covet our riches, so I hid the keys before they seized the castle. They're hidden in secret panels in the war room and the archers' nest."

A glimmer of hope sparked in Addelus. "Then, you believe in us? That we can really defeat Vissan?"

The king blew a raspberry. "Leave that to Leoran. Get me out of here, we'll escape with our treasure, and then sit back and relax in Calderia while Leoran and his mages deal with the problem."

Addelus let go of the bars and stepped back from the cell. The staff of unlocking was slung across his back, but he returned it to the holster on Tess's saddle and swung back atop her. "Actually, you're probably safest in there until we're done doing all the work for you," he said, coldly. "I'll be back when I have time."

"Yes, good idea," the king nodded, blithely deaf to his son's tone. "Get to it, then."

Addelus turned his mount back toward the door, and rode off to support his family.
