The reason in person raiding is rare because outside of cities it's REALLY hard to organize. They can't make in person raiding appealing to people who can't do that to begin with.

Exactly. I can't raid in-person if there's no one to raid with. Sure, I could try and invite people but that relies on 1) They're even online and able to join at all, 2) They have a raid pass since these things are not only capped in inventory but capped as to how many you can do a day, and 3) That you and the five friends you invite are enough to defeat the raid boss (because Mega and Legendary raids usually take 7-8 Raiders to defeat and your max invite possibilities are 5).

Heck, I don't even live in *that* rural of a location. I'm at a state capital. And even then I would have to make a very concentrated effort on Local Discords (which are mostly dead by now anyway) to try and raid.

It's getting near universally blasted on social media right now and I've seen a rather consistent sentiment that people are outright deleting the game as it means they can no longer really play.

I was using Pokegenie to get people to remote raid with, and the host queues on that are going to basically die since there'll be too many of them relative to the number of raiders.

Not to mention the number of raiders will be very nervous about wasting one of their five passes if the raid doesn't succeed.

[up]I can also see people worrying about wasting a Pass because the Raid Boss managed to escape.

Now people will most likely spoof.

Even spoofing has the same problem as attending raids in person (generally need other people). Unless you organize with other spoofers or spoof and multi-account simultaneously I guess...

I very rarely raid in-person. There is an active Discord for my local area, but even then it's hard to organize people and I generally have to go somewhat out of my way to reach the decided gym. We did get together for Regidrago elite raids so I guess that gambit worked but standard raids just don't happen. Even if I see a raid I could solo it generally doesn't feel worth the time/effort unless I have a research task for it. When we got free remote passes I used all of those but I'm not willing to spend real money on them

If, and again, IF millions of players can band together by not buying anything and not raiding at all for at least a whole month, even better if more, I'm sure Niantic would have no choice but to revert the changes after seeing that instead of more in-person raid, there is no raid happening at all, and they also have a drop in profit.

Or just delete the game and stop playing altogether. Return when they do revert the changes, but if they don't, consider yourself free from the game, not having to worry about tasks and dailies anymore. If enough people stop playing altogether....I'm sure Niantic would notice and have to take action.

So I have a shiny Mammoswine now. I'm thinking of putting it in a Master Rank team with a Ho-oh. I'm trying to think of a third member for that.

I'd almost forgive the Remote Raid limitation if they made it so you could somehow get them without forking over cash

You can, by getting coins from having your Pokemon keeps a gym for several hours. But considering it's only a max of 50 coins per day, and the number of coins you get depends on how long your Pokemon stayed in the gym........yeah, it's practically better to just buy the raid passes with money, which could be annoying to many.

You also can get remote raid passes from the weekly research box, but apparently it's a chance AND you need to have less than 3 remote raid pass in inventory.

Anyway, Kleavor raid day event is coming, it's only Tier 3 so it should be solo-able, and during the event you can remote raid 10 times instead of only 5 times. Also, Shiny Kleavor is released as well. Interesting.

Needing two full day's worth of free coins was already bad. Needing four is just horrendous.

I'm upset. Last night, I beat a Fairy-type Rocket grunt because I needed the Mysterious component, and didn't really care much about the Shadow Pokémon at the time. I had a concurrent commitment, so, right after beating him, I minimised the app with the intent to return later. After a couple of hours, I came back, and it turned out that the Shadow Pokémon was a shiny Mawile. I tried to catch it, but I guess it must have timed out while I was occupied, because it just dropped off, claiming the Pokémon 'couldn't be found'.

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/pokemon-go-monthly-earnings-have-plummeted-to-their-lowest-in-five-years/

TLDR; Pokemon Go has seen a rather steady but dramatic decline in revenue in the last three months. Starting with Feb at $58 mil, March hit $43, and April dropped to $35, rounded for each.

There's also evidence to suggest that the player base has dramatically shrunk as well and further evidence of... review bolstering from Niantics end of either splurges of nonsense 5-star reviews or 5-star reviews bootlicking the changes and demanding further bad changes.

So, wow, how the mighty have fallen.

That's because Niantic has its head up its ass and insists it is a hat.

The numbers might go up again because of Go Fest, but it remains to be seen whether it's going to be a huge increase or not (or if it even goes lower than now).

And even if it goes up during Go Fest, but if the numbers steadily decrease again after Go Fest, we might finally see some bad changes getting reverted.

They could go up because of Go Fest, but everything is relative to each other. It might tick up compared to the month prior, but will it compare to Jan-Feb's numbers? To the previous Go fest?

The up-tick doesn't matter if it's not consistent.

Niantic is now claiming that the reports that their revenue has dropped tremendously this year are false.

They're refuting it, but not actually providing any evidence or numbers besides "In-Person Raids are up and we're excited to show you more new updates in the future".

That's a PR answer right there.

I realize... like, I don't want to second guess every statement a developer makes or call everything PR bullshit, but when shit hits the fan with your audience, you really ought to back up your statements because PR will never work with an unwilling audience.

This PR statement really only works for an external audience.

I am one of those who are not happy with the changes Niantic made to Remote Raids, and I really hope they reverse those decisions, unlikely as it may be.

One of the reasons I'm still sticking with Go is because you can transfer Pokemon to other games, and at least the raids are a good way to get version exclusive legendaries without having to trade for them. It's also a way to get Mythicals.

I’ve stuck with Go because of both that and it gives me motivation to exercise. I’m F2P at this point, though.

I've never put a single cent in Go, and I only use it to go out and walk, so those changes are absolutely invisible to me (but I guess I don't participate to Niantic's revenues).
