X5 oh Bleye of the epicness, tell us all about your juicy Tamamo love. Also I don't think I've ever heard how you feel about Tamamo Cat.

Having close male companions isn't really anything new, it was the case with Bedivere and Cas Gil too. I just found it interesting how did the mentioned three, their dynamic with Guda ties pretty strongly into their character arcs by the end of their stories (more for the grand order originals than Sieg though). Dantes is also rather close to Guda, but as mentioned before his affections are a bit one sided and he doesn't talk much about his own feelings. Oberon is probably the male character written by Nasu with the most prominent dynamic with Guda, though he's got way more dynamics outside of him than the other three, and his regard for Guda by the end is more complex. It avoids the "friend" label that the other three have that firmly put it in the platonic state in canon, but what we do have is also ten layers of subtext that the best one can come up with by the end of it is "Well, he certainly doesn't dislike Guda".

Douman, despite being the horniest male character in his lines, is a walking red flag and if you take any affection he shows seriously that's your own fault really. It is interesting to imagine if a scenario could exist where he genuinely grows to like Guda.

On a different note, I don't really know much about Paris' interactions with Guda in Atlantis outside of Apollo unfortunately not being mute, but since he's one of the few male servants who straight up says they love Guda (not like I take him seriously, he's a kid with a Pedo on his head) but I am curious if he's yet another example of male characters bond line affections never translating into the story

my feelings on Cat are like.... super mixed.

on one hand, i think she perfectly encapsulates Tamamo's whole deal with cutting off her tails, and how her tails manifest different parts of her personality while still being their own people (er, foxes?). i absolutely love the fact that they turned a gag ending that only showed her tails' silhouettes into, like, its own whole deal of the Fateverse.

on the other hand her character in of itself is... a lot of nothing. like, part of the reason i adore OG Tamamo is that she recognizes how cruel she can be, how she tries to hide it, how she learns to accept that she can be loved as she is.. and so on. Cat... doesn't really have any depth? I appreciate the fact that she's monstrous and the game doesn't shy away from it, but... that's really it. she has a really fantastic moment with Melty in CCC Event which is the greatest highlight of her character, because she recognizes who she is and that's okay with her. and that's great! but she doesn't have really compelling characterization besides being a goofball.

and i don't think there's anything wrong with that! i love that she's goofy and silly, i love her incredibly straightforward attitude, i love what she represents, but... i dont know, she's lacking what made original Tamamo so complex and doesn't make up for it in other ways.

of course, that just means i like her less than OG Tamamo. she's still easily up there as one of my favorites, ever.

i also really love the route they went with her and OG's interactions, with their recent moments all essentially just being sisters bickering with each other, and OG trying to keep Cat on a leash.

my biggest wish is that Fate, like, actually explored the deal with the Tamamo Nine. Cat was a great start, but there is so very easily a lot more that can and should be explored here. Koyan ultimately disappointed me in that regard, saying both that she's a shadow of the original but she isn't one of her tails (which ???? what does this mean), and i'm just desperate for more of Tamamo's tails and what's going on with them.

A little under two years. In that time, i'd spend roughly 2000+ SQ on any banner Tamamo was on.

Thankfully, since then i had much better luck, with me getting three Tamamo's in 180 SQ on the New Year's banner... while also on split rate up with Beni.

I assume she’s from a Lostbelt, and even her means of becoming a unique Beast was to gather the creatures necessary from Lostbelts to become a Lostbelt 9-Tailed Fox.

Tamamo Cat is by Word of God Nekoarc equivalent. She was written as a gag character who shouldn't even be involved in the main story. Though the writers did eventually got a foothold on her character where she is wacky but sincere character. But even so, she feels like a character who is intentionally written without that much depth. She is what Tamamo wants to be like, not weighted down by her past and just focus on trying to be more of a proper wife. Your opinions on her are valid (mainly because Tamamo's problem really is that her character is too deep of a sinkhole they don't seem to even want to properly explore), but the Cat was screwed from the start. And chances are that the other tails might have the same problem unless one of them will end up being the drama queen of the bunch.

I first rolled Tamamo on Valentine's a couple of years ago (very fitting).

She would spook me again in the fall of the same year, iirc.

Then comes January where my wife decided to go all out for me and show up three more times, bringing her to NP 5.

I got Summer Tamamo her first banner, and got her to NP 5 last year.

The Tails were definitely meant to be gags originally, but i can definitely see them going a more serious route with some of them. Just look at "Not OG's Tail" Koyanskaya. Who, yknow, weirdly shares Tamamo's appearance, the name of one of Tamamo's tails, and has an eerily similar design to one of them, and also could have been a great representation of a serious take on Tama's tails.

Granted, I think the complete lack of interaction between Koyan and OG would be immensely disappointing if Koyan were a tail, since part of the charm of Tama's tails is how fluffy they are is how much they hate the original, and there's a lot of room for development and growth on both sides.

Paris is put on the same party as Achilles, meaning that despite having some nice and earnest moments, the majority of his screentime is dedicated to being petty and spiteful. Which is honestly the best place for his character to be.

Oh, I always knew that Koyanskaya was everything I loved about Tamamo Original without the parts I hated, but it didn't occur to me that Cat was everything I hated without the parts I loved. Thanks for this perspective, it was very enlightening.

Also, Cat has the bonus of still having Tamamo's voice actor and she does an absolutely amazing job.

Her delivery for Cat's line for OG Tamamo is one of my favourites.

The game is in desperate need of more Tamamos. Imagine having a true Best Girl template and not capitalising on that.

Then again, considering how much not getting Tamamo affected my enjoyment of the game, it's for the best there isn't more variants for me to never roll.

Koyanskaya is weird that she is obviously meant to be "Evil Tamamo", but without having any of the traits that makes Tamamo actually evil in the first place. I know that is an exaggerated statement to make, but when you think of "evil Tamamo", the thing what comes to mind is Daji and so on. But Koyanskaya has slowly shown less and less traits that would make her "Daji" to the point that the only thing what really connects the two is Qin Shi Huang being all "Gotcha!" at her, which doesn't really pay off that greatly beyond spooking her a bit. Heck, look at her as a playable Servant and tell me she is "the evil fox who impersonated a woman to doom an emperor and his kingdom".

There is a definite reason for it, but she feels less like an exploration of Tamamo's character and more of an OC who just happens to be related to Tamamo so that we can sort of close off the "Tamamo/Amaterasu/Whatever is a Beast" plotline.

She actively undermined and tried to turn people against each other repeatedly to destroy them for her amusement in the first two Lostbelts and even the third(Which failed each time she tried). She was very clearly like Daji, but starting with China she consistently saw her schemes foiled, met people who knew her and her MO from the start so she couldn’t manipulate them, and was way outmatched by her opponents.

Part of Dajis schtick is that she worms her way into positions of power and ruins things from there to make delicious hamburgers, and Koyanskaya has seen that failed repeatedly cause those she meets know she’s dangerous. What makes Da Ji so dangerous is ultimately ineffective the longer she deals with the more powerful godly Kings of each Lostbelt.

Not to mention Capatilism and Casinos are the kind of shit Daji would love because of how it destroys countless lives and destabilize nations. Her worming her way into Goredolfs life to manipulate the wealthy sucker is a reflection of that.

Koyanskaya's profile going "oh, she's actually a mechanism of karmic retribution btw" is a thing that honestly makes a lot of sense to me. Daji was introduced as a monster fox sent by Nuwa to destroy China as punishment for the Emperor being too horny to respect the goddess. Her approach was seducing Zhou of Shang into forgetting to govern because his lust was his Fatal Flaw to begin with.

Koyanskaya, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a specific target. She's being an enemy to our current consumerist world in general, and that's why she's a capitalist monster. It feels very original while still staying true to Daji's original themes.
