At this point the "lay down and die" option sounds more and more like a mercy.

This really is an example of why the conflict with the Crypters is Gray-and-Grey Morality. Namely because both sides are quite literally given shit hands and are trying to make the best of a bad situation, even if diametrically opposed.

  • Chaldea thinks the situation can be resolved so long as we stop the enemies plans, even if there's little actual evidence to base this on.
  • The Crypters were Only Mostly Dead and forced to be pawns to the thing that wiped out the planet, so try to grow the Lostbelts, even if they're largely crapsack worlds, if only so there's life and with the full intent of betraying the Foreign God.
Basically Anti-Villain vs. Anti-Hero. And, well, shit is still fucked beyond repair. Lakshmi better be on to something with this reincarnation stuff, otherwise, unless time travel gets involved, Earth as we know it is forever missing a layer.

The alternative is letting various flavors of Dystopia become the new main timeline which was never even an option in the first place or allowing the Alien God to descend completely.

Destroying the Lostbelts is distasteful at best, but calling "laying down and dying" a mercy is flat out wrong when every alternative is magnitudes worse.

Even Wodime warns Ritsuka that the sixth and seventh Lostbelts are FUBAR'd to an extent that makes the first five look like paradise.

Chaldea has not and has never operated on certainties. Trying will always be better than giving up in this scenario.

Yeah, that's why "are we the baddies" discourse misses the point so badly.

You're definitely 100% right, Rebel, though. That it's a shit situation all round, intentionally manufactured by the Alien God.

This is precisely what the Sunk Cost Fallacy is all about.

We have lost so much that we (Chaldea) have no other choice but to keep gambling on the possibility that we can win back what we initially lost by beating the Foreign God in its "Lostbelt"-casinos, despite the fact that we barely earn enough to keep gambling after each tree we manage to cut down.

We might end up winning back the amount of cash we had before being forced into this mess, but we'll lose a sum seven times higher than that amount in the progress.

And if the world is still gone after beating all the lostbelts?

Well, that's a bridge to cross when we get there.

I meant more "lay down and die" in the sense of that being the end goal. By time we prune LB 7, I think just resting/dying would be a mercy rather than be forced to live with the fact we committed genocide at least five times.

No way in hell would I want Beryl winning after the shit he's pulled, and LB 7 has to die if only to stop the ORT Cloud. After that though, I'd welcome laying down and getting kissed by Serenity rather than live with the shit Ritsuka's done being All for Nothing.

Giving Beryl a well deserved beating is some good motivation, isn't it.

I prefer to go out with spite (in story context). Even if it's for nothing I'd like to at least completely and utterly destroy all the alien god's plans in the process and make sure they feel double to bitterness I do rather than just shrug my shoulders. If that's the end though, I'll just spend the rest of my days with novum chaldea.

Though as for "Are we the baddies" discourse, I've never felt bad about destroying the lostbelts but the fact that Arjunya would have splintered the damn world 10x over even without our interference kind of makes me relieved at the lack of ambiguity in regards to just "leaving things be".

"Are we the baddies" discourse just makes me think they want Gudao/Gudako to turn into the next Kiritsugu Emiya to make them "cool" and "edgy". Of course, they will never reach that level in those people's eyes, but they might come close.

Finally found a subbed version of Grand Carnival. I must say I am disappointed in Helena. I can understand Merlin, Tamamo, and Medb being that manipulative, but to think Helena would exploit her granny aura for evil...

[up]Wait, likes her degenerate? Or likes her being a Disney fangirl?

Atlas datamines for the new update, a new battle state called "Avalon" and temporary Command Spells are the big additions.

They talked about her being one of the four kings, does that mean there are other servants working there?

[up][up]A wide shot showed other female Servants there too. And considering the type of place this is, it's possible they worked there if they weren't attending themselves. Other Servants included both Medea's, Mata Hari, and Marie. The Medea's were with Jason, Mata Hari was with Blackbeard, and Marie was with Sanson and Mozart.

A bunch of other Servants cameo'd too. Bart was shown standing in the corner between Jason and Blackbeard, Napoleon and Fergus were shown together, Orion briefly showed up only to get impaled and dragged out by Artemis, and in the recreation of the Holy Maiden Leading Chaldea CE, Hans, Shakespeare, and the Phantom all appear, the latter two buried in rubble with Blackbeard and Sanson, as Napoleon, Fergus, and Bart take EMIYA and Olga Marie's place in the recreation.

Still, Helena of all people working at this place? Seriously? She's supposed to be the sweet granny of Chaldea!

All the talk about Lostbelts made me think of what exactly is Foreign God's endgame? Since their plan involves bringing back pruned timelines, surely they must realize that their own plans have the chance of ending the same way, right? Since Human History has a root and an apex, would their plan be the opposite of Goetia's where instead of going back in time to effectively undo Human History, Foreign God's plan would end up timelocking their timeline as the "proper" one?

Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!

Hmm.

[up][up]That was the original intent at least. The Crypter's were supposed to develop their Lostbelts, then they'd all do battle with one another, the losing ones being devoured by the winners, until only one was left, the remaining one being the "winner" and becoming new Proper Human History. It's why everyone said Wodime was gonna win, since his Lostbelt was pretty much the strongest already.

Though, now we obviously know that was just a crock of shit, and the Foreign God is just looking for a suitable body atm. So who knows what their true goal is at this point. Especially when it's still hard to figure out how the stuff happening at Area 51 factors into this. We're still missing crucial pieces of data.

[up]More like the reverse here.

I think the big twist will be that everyone is misunderstanding Alien God intentions, and mistaking means for end, like how Goetia didn't use his NP to burn history, but burned history to fuel his NP. Everything that happened so far is probably just an means to some greater end.

The thing with the Lostbelts is that they’re mostly just there for show because only one was needed the entire time. Hell three of the Lostbelts involved people working under the Foreign God sabotaging them (or attempted to be brought down in the case of Avalon) and they really didn’t give a rats ass about it when it happened.

You should see the discussion threads on reddit. Many people want Guda to make a 180 and be a dick and not bother helping any of the natives because they'll be erasing them anyway.

Hilarious that this many people are in full agreement with Douman's argument, of all things.

Right, because the only choices are lay down and die or keep moving forward.

I'm not if this "only choices" point was sarcastic or not, but there's always proper communication. Going without hostility and asking for a clear picture of what's happening with the world. Would it be effective? Absolutely not, they can't read Kirschtaria's mind. But from a strictly moral standpoint, it's the better alternative to blind action.

All the talk about Lostbelts made me think of what exactly is Foreign God's endgame?

Kirschtaria in Atlantis: "The Alien God doesn't tolerate mistakes. They are a god who seeks only the one correct answer."

U-Olga in Olympus: "I am the god ascend from void. The being manifest to correct this planet, ridding it of evil. The ultimate ruler to take Earth as a single nation in my possession and keep every single human being under strict regulation."

That's all we got so far. Considering the nature of what the alien god really is, that's probably just a super exaggeration of Olga's original intolerant Control Freak tendency without much extra thought added to it.

If the goal is to "control humanity" then the Lostbelts would make sense if they act as a culling tool to "set the amount of Humanity" for her to control, the smaller numbers, the better.

If this ends up with us being the only/last "Humanity" left for her to control, then we will be in trouble.

Especially if her "standards" for humanity is "Pure Human".

Why are we speculating on the motives of someone who we last saw proving that this entire elaborate mess is already just a means to an end? Like the entire point of the Lostbelts is to grow the trees.

What it wants to do AFTER that is currently unknown because various more interruptions.
