Re: Columbus getting a Historical Villain Upgrade: Huh, that's good to know. I guess the "Black Legend" propaganda associated with Spain has left its mark on his Spirit Origin. Interestingly, Spain was the first country to pass semi-humanitarian laws regarding its colonies (like prohibiting punishment of the native workers and limiting the power of the enconmenderos) as early as 1512. It wasn't great by any means, and the laws were often ignored, but at least Spain gave some bits of a heck about the native population (even though the laws likely sprung from concerns of the native population not being able to supply the colonizers with enough workers). Food for thought, I hope the game goes into that a bit more.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrIt won't
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysColumbus is the requisite cartoon villain when he shows up.
Even Blackbeard is less weird.
Avatar SourceOne thing with Columbus that bothers me is how fast da Vinci and I guess everyone else were ready to mistrust him the moment he revealed his True Name. Like come on now, at least give him some benefit of the doubt.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!- Agartha
- What about him ever seemed trustworthy anyway
- He just revealed himself as someone who stubbornly insisted the world was smaller than it is and got lucky
@ Altris
It won't and probably never will unless you somehow get BartolomΓ© de las Casas into the game.
You will be hard pressed to find somewhere that speaks neutrally of the Spanish Empire in pop culture, you'll only find something like that in the academic books.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.Yeah I found everyone suddenly not trusting Columbus to be weird because ffs we're ready to trust every other Evil Servant out there and half the Good ones are against us, so what's so special about Columbus that makes his betrayal guaranteed?
Clearly, it's the artstyle.
Avatar SourceGoddamn, Artoria needs a lot of Dragon fangs; 126 total and I got....8.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Isn't that the...?
(Looking up "Hyakki Yagyo" on Google)
"Ooh...this looks promising indeed..."

Night Parade of One Hundred Demons? Was bound to come up with this lot occasionally.
Avatar SourceSo one interesting titbit about Arcade that people have taken interest to: The title for E Pluribus Unum is different. Instead of "North American Myth War", it is instead something like "North American Myth Erosion" (北米神話侵食). People have also taken note of other stuff, but I can't really weight on if they mean that much of anything.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru! You will be hard pressed to find somewhere that speaks neutrally of the Spanish Empire in pop culture, you'll only find something like that in the academic books.
Huh, that's ...oddly depressing. I don't know why I expected so much from Agartha, but I'm let down anyway.
Columbus being an actual historical person with actual historical records of his behavior, I expected whoever wrote this to do better. Like, c'mon, I can provide a better historical context and in-universe excuse for Columbus's behavior from a five-minute Wikipedia browse, and this is me we are talking about here. If Fate is going to muck around with representations of historical figures, there has to be some historically accurate context influencing their behavior/appearance/et cetera. I don't think that's a very high standard.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrFGO Arcade is the final Lostbelt.
Did you miss the part where Edison has a lion's head?
Historical accuracy in Fate is all over the place even when not being deliberately messed with.
Avatar SourceTo be fair, Edison's lion head isn't even his actual real head. It's the presidents' mystic code or something like that.
Huh, I wonder these changes are related to Proto Merlin's appearance? They already made FGO Waltz related to Romani seeing those happy memories, so maybe they'll make Arcade a "what if" scenario of Proto Merlin inserting herself in regular Merlin's role?

Mind you, I do not dislike Columbus as a villain because he represents the glaring Values Dissonance we have with our servants by virtue of being from different eras, and he was considered a scumbag even for the standards of his time, Queen Isabella arrested him for his crimes against the natives since she explicitly told him to not treat the natives as slaves.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.@TPPR 10: Arcade's plot is different from the original FGO since Orleans.
You could say this is FGO getting a remake before Tsukihime.
This is all the fault of what must not be named, because of it Tsukihime has become the Sakura of the Nasuverse.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.Wonder if Gareth gets implemented in Arcade's Camelot to enact Camelot Zero then
Edited by Nouct on Sep 23rd 2020 at 12:25:08 PM
Wait, Arcade has a plot? Like some of the things in Arcade feels like they are there just for the experience ("Why is there a Demon Pillar in Orleans?" "What, you want to wait until Septem for us to add raids?"). This is one that seems more deliberate.
PS: I don't think I have seen anyone translate Christmas Helena's description.◊
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Right, 25 steel, then I think I can consider using Skadi and increase my lotto +'s on NA from 4.
Until then it's the same nonsense I was using on JP: Arash, BB, Gil, grab a Waver so Gil can have the damage CE.
