But yeah, Aoyama isn't just a joke character, there's more going on there. He might not be in my Top 10 but he's actually one I'm more warmed up to in the class.

The sarcasm is unnecessary. I already said I worded it more judgmentally than I meant.

On a different note, I'm rather curious how Bakugo is going to handle a rescue operation. "Let me save you! Or I'll kill you!"

Huh looking back on it from recent events Aoyama’s words here make more sense in hindsight.

Heh I can’t tell if Bakugo complimented Deku or not. tongue

:D Yep! Bakugo basically gave Deku a compliment! That was funny!

Aoyama is at worst, a Cowardly Lion. Even when he's scared he's shown himself able and willing to do what's needed.

I got the implication that, based on Deku's reaction, Bakugo was implying something a bit more than a compliment.

And yes, Cowardly Lion was what I had in mind. On that note, I guess that explains what Aoyama was up to when Shiggy attacked the USJ.

I don't know if I'd call it a compliment but he's certainly acknowledging him more. And also stating he's taking Izuku having "borrowed" someone else's power seriously now, instead of just brushing it off like he did at first.

Mineta's Quirk is pretty useful in general. It's just his lack of self-confidence and being treated mostly as a joke character that might make someone forget that.

It should be mentioned about Aoyama in this test; in the manga it is slightly different circumstances Iida finds him in: The scene where the two meet is a flashback during the scene where they are dodging attacks, and in the manga Aoyama already has two of his points taken when Iida finds him (two of the targets are shadowed). It's a bit more understandable that he is cowering when he is one unlucky hit away form being taken out, in addition to being alone and having an entirely offensive Quirk.

[up]Aoyama had two of his targets already hit here too. They didn't change anything with that.

[up]No, the targets aren't glowing when Iida finds him. He therefore must have taken the hits sometimes after the two met.

Or it was just an animation error, those happen.

Either way, that's really not the kind of thing that needs to be spoilered. It doesn't change anything, and a lot of people (including basically everyone else in class A) where taking cover. It doesn't somehow make Aoyama look bad.

[up]I am guessing it is a mistake actually, like Ragdoll being in the meating spot instead of the forest when the League Vangu- blabla attacked in ep3. I don't think Aoyama covering looks that bad myself, but YMMV and it is more justified if he is closer to elimination.

Also, I try to spoiler everything from the manga just in case. To much is better than to little, but if no one cares...

Little thing, but I'm at my weekly anime club and we're watching the first episode of the exam and Crunchyroll appears to have fixed Tsuyu's 1% flub. She now says "less than 10%" even she hears only 100/1,540 students will pass.

Thank goodness.

I liked this episode a lot more than the last one, and man meatball is a disturbing quirk. kaminari's little gun thing was kind of neat and finally aoyama does something likable. The animal dude's pigeon assault was cool too. This challenge does feel it dragged on slightly though.

Only got to watch the episode today. It might be my favourite of the arc so far.

  • Meatball guy seems to be a mini-Stain of sorts, going out of his way to "punish" heroes he deems unfit. I'm guessing this isn't the last we've seen of him;
  • The fight itself showed some nice improvements from Bakugou (who now employs grenades for teammates to use) and Kaminari (who's finally using his quirk in an efficient manner. This might be the first fight we've seen where he hasn't gone full 1.3 Million volts);
  • Sero and Uraraka now have a team move, which is always cool. Love the little celebratory dance they did with the others;
  • I loved the second half of the episode. Seeing Class 1-A competently passing was great, and to my surprise, no one failed! I thought at first Iida was going to sacrifice himself to allow the others to pass, but this was much better;
  • Speaking of Iida, love to see him making a point of leading the other guys before trying to pass. A good part of this show's appeal is that each person has a different idea of what a hero should be like, and it's great to see the characters consistently stick to their ideals;
  • The Aoyama stuff was absolutely fantastic, and the best part of the arc so far. I've suspected in the past that Aoyama was the traitor note , and that suspicion arose precisely because of that belt he's always wearing. I thought the belly button thing was a cover-up for his real quirk (something sneaky like mind-reading), but after these flashbacks, I'm starting to think he might've been born quirkless, which was something I hadn't even considered before. Hope we get to see more of this development before the end of the season;
  • Did Tooru pull off a solar flare? Apparently her classmates were aware this was a thing she could do? Is this why she's in the opening? So many sudden questions.

A cover up of his "real" Quirk probably wouldn't work in this world, and covering up him being Quirkless would be a bit pointless. The school has his records and allow him to use his belt (remember that he got it approved to use during the Sports Festival). Items like it are highly regulated so lying about what it's for and his Quirk really are wouldn't fly.

Did Tooru pull off a solar flare? Apparently her classmates were aware this was a thing she could do? Is this why she's in the opening? So many sudden questions.

It's a new move she created as a part of their training. Since it's happened, it's fair game to say there's more her Quirk than "just invisible". This scene is specifically why someone had an issue with the first episode that summed up the whole class's Quirks.

Well, Bakugo let Midoriya use one of his grenade arm things, so it's not the first time he's loaned gear.

Yeah, but he did it this time without hesitation and was considering Kirishima and Kaminari being there before attacking, so that's still progress.

He also screamed at Kaminari taking too long, implicitly saying he trusted him to be able to get them out of the situation.

[up][up]I thought this one wasn't one of his arm things, but rather a special item he commissioned that could store his sweat so he could give it to his teammates.
