Oh right, the Steam release for Ni-Oh 2 is scheduled this month. Looking forward to it.

Maybe I'll make an exception and buy it before it goes on sale. Maybe.

Ah, I'm looking forward to that, too. What I'm not looking forward to is having to grind-unlock everything again. [lol]

[up][up]For what it's worth, I feel like the game is a lot of fun, so I definitely recommend playing it if you have the chance.

It does, so to put it plainly, don't screw up.

Ugh, I don't like it when games do this; it's disrespectful of the player's time. At least I didn't die to the very last opponent, but I am not looking forward to this mission on higher difficulties.

Speaking of missions, I finally completed all of the missions in "The Last Samurai." Kukai felt like he learned the art of boss battles from the likes of Toshimitsu and Ren Hayabusa, but I managed to get him on my second try due to liberal use of Medusa Powders. "The Alluring Ancient" is also a pretty fun boss fight, though I say this as someone who only played the mission on Dream of the Samurai.

I'll probably replay a few missions to get some boss drops, then it's back to working my way through Dream of the Strong.

I played through Dream of wise. Won't go back to the Against All comers mission until I've maxed out Dream of the Nioh Tier Gear and levels.

Its an even harder version of the first games equivalent of battling 1 hundred enemies.

I recently picked up the first game, and I'm not sure where to spend my Amrita. The build guide on GameFAQs is all over the place and doesn't give any real advice other than "build everything to 20 and then figure it out from there".

My starting choices were Sword, Axe, and Kato, and my general playstyle is "full frontal attack". I haven't gotten past the start of Chapter 2 yet, mostly because I fall back to the shrine every time I'm badly injured. I have about 2,500 Amrita to invest.

I remember not being happy seeing Toshimitsu being an opponent in "Against All Comers," though I did manage to beat him without dying. My biggest complaint is still having to start over with "First Samurai" Otakemaru if you lose to base game Otakemaru.

Though if I had to say something good about that mission, it's that Ren Hayabusa is not one of the opponents you have to face.

Speaking of "First Samurai" Otakemaru, I redid the "Dawn of the Demon" mission and managed to get him to drop one of his Shiftling skills. I got the Phantom skill, so I still need to get the Feral and Brute skills. Alas, I didn't get any special drops from Tate Eboshi this time.

So the reviews for Steam seem to be Mixed. Thing is, that's largely due to people complaining about Mouse + Keyboard controls not being up to snuff.

So not really an issue that would affect me personally seeing as I have a gamepad.

I might wait a few more days before getting it. Just in time for the Chinese New Year work holiday.

The one thing I'm curious about is if there's crossplay with PS4 players.

Edit: Nope, only between the PS4 and PS5 versions. That's just disappointing.

I know a guy who did Dark Souls M&KB. I gave it a try, but since I was using a laptop at the time my response was "this is too hot". [lol]

I played Dark Souls II on Mouse + Keyboard. It wasn't exactly an easy time, but I did it.

Eeeeeh I feel like comparing the controls of DS and Nioh is a bit counterproductive since Nioh definitely has the more complex and fast paced setup of the two.

I'm getting a slideshow-like level of performance... on the brightness selection. Uh.

Pretty sure that shouldn't be happening.

And it just arbitrarily fixed itself. Ok.

I did a Demon Parade Scroll mission that culminated in a fight with Otakemaru. After I beat him, he ended up dropping four smithing texts. Good haul.

Still making my way through the missions on Dream of the Strong. Got to say, using the Izuna Drop on Nobunaga is a pretty funny sight. Though one mission I'm definitely not looking forward to on Dream of the Strong (or any difficulty, for that matter), is "Against All Comers." I'm not looking forward to having to deal with Toshimitsu.

I've seen the other thing the steam reviews are complaining about (when they aren't freaking out over the lack of on-screen keyboard information). When effects are set to high, the game will have really bad hitching occasionally, which is just... really badly done. It doesn't matter what the hardware or resolution is, either? I can see lots of complaints about it happening at 1080p; I'm running at 4k and having the same issue despite the GPU not being 100% utilised to keep 60.

On the plus side, the game looks nice. And this scampuss outfit is hilarious.

I actually tried fighting Toshimitsu on Dream of the Strong and, to my surprise, ended up not dying. I used Medusa Powder to paralyze him, then used the Izuna Drop. The last couple of health was still a pain in the ass to cut down.

Overall, I think I definitely like the youkai bosses more than the human bosses. I do like bosses like the Obsidian Samurai and Yorimitsu, but bosses like Toshimitsu, Ren, and Kukai were not as fun.

As for who or what my favorite bosses in the game so far are, I think Kasha, Shuten Doji, and the Lightning Gods of Yomi are some of my personal favorites.

Apologies for the double-post, but I finally beat all the non-DLC and non-Online missions on Dream of the Strong. I also just finished all of "The Tengu's Disciple" on Dream of the Strong.

I did the first mission on Dream of the Demon and it wasn't too bad. The Gozuki fight took a little longer than usual due to its three-hit combo no longer being susceptible to Burst Counters, but it still wasn't that bad.

Gozuki is definitely a brutal opener, but he becomes pretty easy on repeat fights, even as your and his stats go up.

Nioh 2 got another patch, which has added... DLSS! It remains to be seen if all the weird stutters are gone. Either way, turned off gsync for the moment and I'm getting lowest about... 90fps with maxed settings on balanced at 4k? That's pretty nice. Even if the monitor's only 60fps so it's a bit pointless, might as well reduce input latency as much as possible here.

Did my first Scroll of the Demon mission...and it pitted me against Benkei and Yoshitsune.

Finishing that mission let me get my Stone of Penitence to 100% and upgrade my Yasakani Magatama.
