Couldn't find a discussion on this, so I figured it might be about time to start one.

So. Who plays?

I fly Empire, I have at least one of each ship in that faction. I'm pretty casual though, only play with friends.

Not really pumped for Wave 8, while the Rebels and especially Scum are getting cool ships (Scum are long overdue for a turret ship and many of those upgrades) the TIE Advanced Prototype isn't that exciting.

I am pumped for Imperial Veterans; as it is going to fix my beloved TIE Defenders.

My biggest disappointment with The Force Awakens (apart from the portrayal of Hyperdrives and Kylo Ren being a wimptongue) was the lack of new ships to put into this game. I must have Ren's shuttle as a mini damn it! The First Order TIE and T-70 Xwing are monsters though, Poe kicks asses and the top ace for the Order shuts down so many things.

I've found that Omega Ace + Push the Limit backed by Epsilon Leader (the Stress-reducing one) can do some hilariously nasty stuff, especially if you can get into range 1 (at which point you are inflicting more automatic critical hits than the majority of Rebel ships have Agility dice). If you locked the target earlier in the mission you can even have an Evade token.

Or, if you are willing to take a 3 point upgrade, take Comm Relay and Juke for infinite evade and make it harder for them to dodge. Omega Leader completely shuts down all dice changing, including tokens, locks and a crapton of pilot abilities, elite talents and mods. By comparison Omega Ace has a very situational ability and crits matter a lot less when the Rebels/Scum he shoots at have shields to soak those.

The stress relief pilot is ok, but I don't think he's necessary. The TIE/FO isn't hurting for green moves.

With the annoucment of Imperial Veterans; I'm interesting to see fixes for other weak ships. Ewings, Starvipers, Scum Interceptors and the T-65 Xwing (again) seem to be in need of the most help.

Unfortunately, my local area hasn't, as far as I can tell, gotten any TIE/FO Expansions yet, so I haven't had a chance to pick up any Omega Leaders. I'll be keeping an eye out for them, but as yet...

Wave 9, in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Rebel ARC-170, Imperial TIE/sf, and Scum Concord Dawn Protectorate Starfighter and Lancer-class Pursuit Craft/Shadow Caster.

  • The ARC has a rear fire arc, a free unique Title to boost its damage output in both arcs in different ways, what's probably a Modification to give any small ship access to Barrel Roll, and new crew, torpedo and astromech options (two copies of the latter). Also, no generic pilots, because the Rebellion doesn't have many.
  • The TIE/sf also has a rear fire arc and a free unique Title (letting it fire either one 3-die shot in the primary arc, or 2-die shots out both arcs), as well as a copy of Wired and new System and Tech options (two copies of the latter). Also, the third Imperial ace with base PS 9, who can allow you to fire three shots in a turn in certain very narrow circumstances and/or make good use of a Fire Control System. It's not quite as tanky as a TIE Defender, mostly due to only having AGI 2 instead of 3, but the most talented ace is cheaper than a Delta Pilot in a Defender and the Title gives it the same damage output while also allowing it to split fire if necessary.
  • The Protectorate Starfighter has an Interceptor-style statline and action bar, but its upgrades and pilots seem more focused on point-blank jousting, especially the Title, which gives you free Evade results if you're nose-to-nose with the target. Also, it has six pilots and only two upgrades, the second being a new Elite upgrade.
  • The Shadow Caster has a new take on turrets where you rotate its arc as an action rather than firing on all of them; this is cheaper than most turrets, apparently. Also in the kit: some new crew upgrades, including IG-88 (who will supposedly give IG-2000 effects to other ships), Veteran Instincts, the ability for large ships with Illicit upgrades to deploy a debris field, a bunch of modifications (including two Tactical Jammers), and a surprising number of tractor-beam effects for a ship with no cannon mount.

I'll probably get the /sf, maybe the ARC to support my Rebel stuff. I like the look of the Protectorate Starfighter and I respect what the Shadow Caster is trying to do with turrets, I just don't play Scum.

I'll definitely grab an sf or two; though I won't make a final judgment call on it until I see its dial.

I also wasn't that impressed with the announcement of Heroes of the Resistance, the PS 9 Poe pilot was pandering in the extreme and while the new Falcon stuff is cool the entire package upgrades a pair of ships that didn't need help. I mean, I know that a cash in was inevitable but I wish they'd give other ships love first.

Ultimately, Fantasy Flight is a business, which means it needs to do stuff that's profitable. This means that it's TFA Tie-In Season because the movie is still fresh in everyone's minds. Presumably we'll get Rebel Veterans when the hype dies down, and/or when they can include Rogue One stuff in it.

I fly Rebels. I'm particularly fond of the A-Wing.

I had one game where an A-Wing absolutely slaughtered me. It turns out that Kath Scarlet's ability to inflict stress has absolutely no effect on a PTL/Test Pilot/Wired Tycho, especially when the fether consistently rolls really well on agility dice.

Just had a great game with Quickdraw + Ruthlessness against a Z-95 missile swarm. She killed three of them in one round of shooting.

I like to think she opened with "It's high noon..."
