Wait. What was this conversation about again? Yoshika didn't really understand why she started it.
"Well, nevermind," she said, following Lewis and dropping that topic like an ugly baby. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get another chance. If anything good's come out of my stay here, it's that I got to see two movies! In the same week!"
That left herself, Orange You Glad I'm Dumb, Old Fart and Mini Fart, and Kid Who Shows Off His 5th Grade Spelling Bee Win Despite Being In High School. There was a bit of maneuvering she was going to have to do with Rick, considering he was the only one who had any prior knowledge of her* but that wasn't a giant worry.
She could just fly away the second anything bad happened. Probably. Hibiki didn't seem to have a gun on her and Rick wouldn't care.
Seiga returned Hibiki's bow with just a little less enthusiasm before she sat herself back down. "Don't worry, I plan on taking it easy for as long as fate allows me to. I've been a bit harried as of late, but that won't stop me."
"Ah, he's just a bit of a technological genius," she explained to Kokichi, "Just not someone good at socializing. At all."
"Yes, everything you just said" Rex told Tairee after she listed possible ingredients for burritos.
Seeing Rex's reaction to him learning Eve was back in the city left her confused, though. That had an easy explanation.
"Because you like kids. What is she doing here getting hurt again?"
Rex simply waved to Eve "Hi. What happened to you?"
Meanwhile, back in the militia channel, Silanea turned off her radio according to Wells—probably something to do with the stress. The lieutenant wanted to know how much time Rex was going to waste in the library.
"I'm going to check up on Yuna. She still hasn't messaged me back. So, half an hour tops, maybe"
Speaking of, Makoto was probably working alone for now so doing something nice for her was a good idea.
But that would have to wait. Chise and Elias were there, the former having just survived trying to carry more books than she could while walking down the stairs.
"Hey Chise" he looked at her companion and spoke in a very unenthusiastic tone "Elias" he looked back at Chise.
"Well, the good news is her village is back. The bad news is one of the people that destroyed it is trapped here. So you can understand I'm a bit on edge right now"

Since the pieces for the outer hull were a little too big for her to handle by herself, Makoto was mostly focusing on supervising Anat's work and coordinating it with the militia's instructions. Her cellphone buzzed, and she pulled it out to check it. Oh, so Rex had gotten to the library already? Well that was nice of him to think of her, but she hadn't quite put together the list of things she actually wanted to get. Makoto had to think for a couple of minutes before texting him back.
Could you bring some kind of bag with a lot of room in it? And some donuts and a thermos of coffee from a cafe called Leblanc? I'm not sure if the latter is possible though. A few seconds after receiving that, Rex would get a second message. Oh, and could you also get an industrial strength flashlight?
Dark Sun, what choices have I...?
I made awkward eye contact with Yoshika behind me. "You did? Really? What were they?
"And, yeah, I know there'll be time later, like tomorrow, hell, I've seen three movies in 5 days, it's just...just between you guys and me...I was gonna watch an anime movie with Rex of all people, there I said it."

Eve nodded to Arcade. "That's also a good idea. Maybe we could talk to the Militia about theirs. If we share the same codes, we can coordinate better," she suggested. She waved back at Rex somewhat sarcastically. "I broke my leg," she deadpanned. "Unless the bone sticking out the top and the blood didn't give it away."

Before Rex could answer the question, some more people came by, one of them being Eve. Chise was about to greet her when she saw her injury, being startled enough by it to make her drops all of her books again as she covered her mouth. Just looking at it was starting to make her feel sick.
"E-Eve, how did that happen?!" She asked, her voice a little muffled from her mouth being covered as she began digging into her pouch for a healing potion.
"I see not even suffering an injury like that was enough to take away your sassy personality." Elias commented, heavily contrasting Chise by being completely unfazed by her wound
Before Chise could even grab a vial in her pouch she heard Rex comment about how one of the people who destroyed Silanea's village was now in the city, making her eyes widen for a moment, although luckily they had already saved the village itself so it wasn't as inconveniently timed as it could have been
"Wait, they can't undo what you guys did can they?"
For the Horde!
Ben listened, looking concerned as Thomas told his story. "Gee," Ben muttered. "I had no idea. Well, we got the plant lady and the robot. Now all we need to do is catch the dinosaur dude and we've got 'em all. I nearly had him but things went poorly. The stun gun thing doesn't work on him," Ben explained.
When Rex and Elias decided to snark at Eve, Ben glared them. "Hey, where do you two get off?!" Ben exclaimed. "She's hurt, that's serious."
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.
Garrett nodded to Gon when the assassin greeted him, but didn't have anything else to say to him.
We're Off To See The Prison
Garrett followed after Lewis and Yoshika, as he had said he would.
"What's an 'anime'?" the thief asked, eyebrow raised, after Lewis mentioned his apparently-shameful plans to watch a film in Rex's company.
"...You know," he continued, "I wonder if I should watch another of these 'movies' while I still have the opportunity. The one about the cold kid was... quite an experience. Are there any particular movies you'd recommend me?"
She barely understood, even as a fully-living person, what was going on in that movie. But dang it, if it wasn't something amazing to her!
Yoshika spun around to the thief (who was this guy?) all abuzz, but she lost a little of that shine when she realized yet another fact about her upbringing. "I...I don't really know that many, I've maybe seen like...six in my whole life? Back when I was first alive they didn't even have movies. Also, anime is just kids shows with drawings instead of pictures of actual people."
"Portal gun." Rick produced the item with his free hand and waved it around as he finished his sandwich. "It's a - you -" Rick fumbled for an easy explanation - "it's powered by a liquefied collapsed tesseract that creates..." As he finished his sandwich, Rick fired a portal so that Kokichi could see, then stuck his arm through, tongue against his cheek as he rummaged for something.
Afte a few seconds of fumbling around through the vagaries of warped space-time, Rick triumphantly brandished a can of beer, which he triumphantly uncorked and swigged.
"You could say I'm bad with people," he admitted. "Alternately, and more truthfully, you could say that most people are dumb. Just pointing that out."

"Everything I just said? Alright, fine" Miss Tairee responded to Rex, while pointing her arm towards Arcade and Eve and shooting the green, healing beam out of the wrist device into Eve. Painlessly and quickly, her foot snapped back into place, and soon she was cured of all injuries. Miss Tairee then did some typing, and with a blur on the desk nearby, a plate with two large burritos appeared, containing ground beef, pulled pork, grilled chicken, beans, three kinds of cheese, hot sauce, salsa, sour cream, and 'something else'.note "And since you seem to have missed the obvious teleport, Eve was hurt because she wasn't here in the library" the librarian added to Rex, shaking her head.
"You and I should talk. In person, not on a public channel. I'll be there soon" Wells' voice responded to Rex on the militia channel.
The radio on one of the central desks then had the idle music it was playing fade out, and the two news announcers came on. "Got some more news for you folks, though information is a bit spotty on it right now" Jeff's voice came on.
"There was some kind of fight at the cinema, but it was apparently pretty short, and the City Knights handled it. We've got some of the Fanboys on the other line trying to give us some of the details, but uh..." Adam's voice added in, trailing off at the end.
"They're way too excited to understood clearly right now" Jeff's voice explained.
Meanwhile, Thomas moved his head slightly, in a vague shaking motion, while still having it leaned back on the couch. "No, I think they were just trying to get through the wall without anyone noticing" Thomas explained in his tired tone. "A code, that could be good, yeah..." the young wizard trailed off, and a few moments later was quietly snoring.

As work on the ship continued, Makoto started wondering exactly what went on between Rex and the Militia. She didn't think he was a criminal, since they let him leave without anyone watching him, but how exactly did Rex get roped into helping with the ship if he didn't actually want to?
"So, uh... what exactly happened that made you guys want to put Rex in jail... for his own safety?" she asked Samson.

Oh god I forgot Garrett was from a world where animation hasn't been invented. No, Yoshika, that's not it at all, no what are you doing.
"It is not kids' fare!" I interjected, before catching myself. "...Necessarily. Anime content is anywhere on a scale from preschool level to...porn, depending on the show...Probably wouldn't show the thing we were watching to a toddler, though it's not that risque.
"Um, anyway, Iron Giant? Nice one...You know, Yoshika, I was told you had a thing for huge robots, but. Considering who told me that I don't really want to trust that claim, y'know?"
Garrett wanted recommendations, seeing as he'd only have the rest of the time he'd be in this place to watch anything. "Well, when I was a kid we had The Princess Bride on VHS, it's one of those romantic adventure stories, but also funny often? I liked it. Might be kinda mushy for your tastes, though." I might have blushed a bit pointing that out. "I know friends" ("friends") "who'd suggest other stuff..."

"... You don't know?" the militia member in charge of construction said, a bit confused.
"She's new here, Greg" Samson said to him, then looked to Makoto. "So quick context; every fifth day we've been here has been a sort of, forced nice day. Everyone is incapable of getting hurt, the theme isn't so bad- well the kid day was kind of annoying- you'll see tomorrow, if the pattern keeps up. When this all started, nobody could contact their home at all, until back uh... Five days ago actually, Rex made some deal with the thing that runs this place, so that everybody gets one call home on those every fifth nice day" the militia member explained, then he huffed and folded his arms.
"The problem was that the exchange for this deal was some kind of additional challenge; something that could've put anyone, or maybe everyone in the city in danger. And when Rex made the deal, he didn't really talk about it with anyone else first; just a few of his other 'hero' friends, but nobody else. Not even Wells or Silanea" Samson went on, frowning a bit. "And then? Basically everything I just told you was broadcasted to the whole city. It nearly caused a huge riot" the militia member concluded.

Oh, so there were "peaceful" days here? What, did the one who trapped them here feel bad about torturing them for too long? Just what was the goal here anyway? Being able to contact home was news to her though, and for the first time since ending up in the City, she was actually looking forward to the next day. But if she only got one call, she needed to think about who to make it to... Wait, but shouldn't people have been happy that Rex got them that opportunity?
Things began to make more sense as Samson continued his explanation, but Makoto couldn't quite get angry over it. Yes, Rex's actions were impulsive and could have done a lot of damage to everyone else, but it's not like he'd done it for no reason, and whatever challenge was in exchange for calling home must've been handled by now. It just sounded like an honest mistake from someone who hadn't thought too far ahead.
"I could see how that'd be an issue," Makoto said. "But... I can't say I'd have done much better than him in similar circumstances." It'd only been a few months ago that she'd gotten herself and her friends in deep trouble with an organized crime gang by being too reckless trying to help people. It had worked out in the end, but she didn't have much room to judge anyone else for trying too hard after that stunt.
"Copy that" Rex told Wells.
Meanwhile, Eve was being difficult, as usual for her. Hell, Rex agreed with Elias about her attitude. Tairee wasn't all that helpful either, stating the obvious fact that Eve had broken her leg outside the library.
"I really missed the dry humor" and Ben just had to protect her. From what, Rex had no idea since Eve was clearly in no danger "Apparently she doesn't think that way"
At least the radio made it clear that there had been a fight and apparently everything had been taken care of. Considering Eve was the only one visibly injured—even if it was nasty—things couldn't really be that bad.
"Well, I guess that answers that. But that's weird, I thought the City Knights were done"
The good news were Tairee had finally gotten over her issues about the burritos and gave Rex exactly what he wanted "Only two?" But hey, food was food. Rex grabbed one of them and started eating but he came to regret that decision because it didn't taste all that great "Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all" he said, putting the half eaten burrito back on the plate.
His phone beeped as he received a text. She wanted food, a bag, and a flashlight. Rex just assumed it was girl stuff he didn't understand.
"Can I get all of this, too?" he asked Tairee, showing her the message from Makoto.
Back to more important issues, Chise asked if the sorceress could undo Silanea's challenge. That was a possibility Rex never considered—and it was a possibility now that the sorceress was here—but it was a minor detail right now. Yuna wasn't stupid enough to tell her about the challenges.
"Nah, don't worry. I'm mostly trying to get Silanea to calm down while we put the sorceress in jail or something. Which reminds me, I want a book about Silanea's world, Tairee"
Arcade sighed in relief as he watched Eve's leg get healed. The injury was nothing new to him, but that didn't make it any easier to see, especially knowing that his way of fixing it would just make Eve uncomfortable.
Once that was over with, he started listening to the people around him. His attention was drawn immediately to Rex mentioning a sorceress and Silanea. "Wait, you mean the one from the mindscape?" he asked, angrily, "you're telling me one of those psychopaths is walking around free?" He'd had enough of the Legion's tendency to burn down entire towns, he was willing to fight another Legion if he had to.
I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."
To Prison
Garrett still wasn't entirely sure what 'anime' was, but as far as he understood, it was either shows for little kids, or pornography. Either possibility raised questions as to why would Lewis want to watch it in Rex's company. Garrett decided to leave these questions mercifully unasked.
To Lewis's suggestion, Garrett replied: "I'd rather avoid anything to do with romance, if it's anything like the sappy theater plays the rich would pay big money to see back in my home City... Though I guess I wouldn't mind something with action. And witty innuendo."

Eve looked at Chise and noted her panic. "Chise, I'm fine. It's about to be healed anyway," she said matter-of-factly. "But thank you for your concern," she added sincerely. When Elias made his comment she flipped her hair the best she could. "I've been injured enough that it's not a big deal anymore."
She held out a placating hand to Ben. "It's fine, Ben. In the scheme of things, this isn't serious." Despite her reassurances, she did breathe a small sigh of relief when it and her shoulder was fixed. "Thank you, Miss Tairee."
She listened to the conversation about a sorceress, implied to be one of the people who burned her village down. And since the mindscape had been completed...
This was a bad thing.
Eve looked up at Arcade. "You can put me down now," she said quietly, swinging her good-as-new leg back and forth.

Ben glanced over at Eve, who assured him it wasn't as serious as he was making it out to be, especially given Miss Tairee magically (and almost instantaneously) healed her broken leg, as it looked good as new.
"Thanks, Miss Tairee," he told her. He then glared at Rex, who insinuated that the City Knights were 'done.' Done?
"What is that supposed to mean? Done? Done doing what, annoying you? Yeah, I bet it would annoy you given that we're being better heroes than you'd ever be, dweebazoid." He then looked at the radio, which started talking about the battle outside the cinema. He grinned.
"Yeah, that was us," Ben pointed out.

Before heading off to follow the sorceress to the library, Caboose offered his opinion on the librarian god lady. "She's really nice!" Caboose said. "Most people try to not talk with me after a few minutes but she didn't leave until I was finished. Everybody here is very not mean."
Before Valentina could get far enough of a lead that the city would take her elsewhere, Caboose gave chase. Just like the sorceress he didn't actually wait for anyone to follow, though he did it out of sheer obliviousness.

"Alright then!" Yuna exclaimed with enthusiasm after she and Hibiki successfully exchanged numbers. "Thanks, Hibiki! You're the best!"
Hibiki was really cool. She'd volunteered to look after that lady by herself, it was just so cool! She turned around to look at everyone else and tell them she was ready to leave, only to see that Valentina and Caboose were already leaving without her. That, unlike Hibiki, was not cool. In fact, it was the opposite of cool. It was... uncool.
"Hey, wait up!" Yuna called out, after which she turned only briefly to say goodbye to her new friends. "Sorry, got to go. Talk to you later! Come on, Two! We're gonna get left behind!"
She took off after the sorceress and soldier at full speed, so it didn't really take her all that long to catch up. And once she did, she was finally able to pull her phone out and let Rex know where she was.

"Hopefully we won't." Qing'e didn't insist too much that they don't go, but seemed against the idea all the same. "Goodbye for now then. You too, Hibiki." She smiled at the other magical girl on the picnic before heading right after Caboose and Yuna. "Coming!"
Valentina was in a better mood now, so at least there was that. Once Two caught up with the rest however, a particular thing bothered her. "What's a phone?"

Samson raised his eyebrows somewhat in surprsie. "You wouldn't have at least talked with the major group leaders first either?" Samson asked, then shook his head. "Well, even if you sympathize with him, a lot of other people certainly didn't. We got Rex to agree to stay in jail for his own protection, and to calm people down by telling them that Rex was in jail... Of course then he decided to go back on the agreement and break out the very next day. In this latest deal, we agreed to stay off his case while he helped Silanea, and in exchange he'd finish our ship after he was done with that" the militia member explained to Makoto.
"... And like I said before, he was the one who came up with that idea" Samson then clarified after a moment of thought.
Miss Tairee rolled her eyes as Rex first complained about how many burritos she had made, then clearly didn't like them anyway. "See Rex, this is why you should be more clear and stop and think for a moment" Miss Tairee commented, then looked at the phone. "See, your friend specified which shop they wanted their stuff from, which narrows it down considerably" the librarian added, as she got to typing. With a blur, another bag of holding quickly appeared, then a bit later a box of donuts and thermos of coffee from Leblanc, and then one of those larger, heavy duty flashlights with a handle on the top that people typically take camping. Each of said items were quickly deposited in the bag of holding.
Miss Tairee then paused a moment to fire the healing beam onto Louie's waiting pokemon, then continued typing as Rex made his last request. "A book on Silanea's world; I'll just assume you want the most relevant one" Miss Tairee stated, then with a blur, the campaign module The Scourging of Vusluora appeared. Of course, after the business in the mindscape, in the book Rex would be seeing references to familiar game rules and statistics, especially the stat sheets for the non-player characters.
Meanwhile, Valentina marched up towards one of the revolving doors, listening to but not looking at Caboose. "I do wonder; if she really does have a part in trapping us here, why do some of you have such a high opinion of her?" Valentina asked out loud, pausing for a moment just in front of the revolving door. She raised her staff slightly, and that swirl of light in it from earlier repeated, and the orb around her flashed again, though seemed the same afterward. Then, she walked through the revolving door, and looked back and forth with her eyes narrowing slightly in a calculating gaze. "... I don't see anyone in here who looks like a goddess. I would expect some ostentation with that kind of power" the sorceress muttered.

With a flash of light, the group were at the library. Arcade took a second to get his bearings, then nodded to Miss Tairee when she offered to heal Eve. He brought her over to the desk and waited for the healing to start.
Once he picked up on Eve's annoyance at Rex, he shot the teenager an icy glare. Other than that he kept his attention on Thomas's story. "You know, it might help to make up some sort of code," he suggested, "just in case this happens again."
