Outside the library

Ben didn't pay any heed to Joel or the robots, as he was still freaking out. When the others approached him, he composed himself and glanced down at Digger.

"Hi Digger," Ben told her, nodding. "I... I'm fine. I think." He wiped his face a bit, then looked over at the others, several of whom insisted to come with him and said that Ghostfreak's offer was probably a trap. They were probably right, though he was still worried about Eve.

"Fine," Ben told Phoenix, Garrett, Jack and Louie. "You guys can come. But you've gotta stay out of sight. You cannot let Ghostfreak see you. If he sees any of you guys, he'll hurt Eve a lot. And I don't want her to get hurt any more. Follow me, but far away," Ben told them. "Keep me in sight." He started to head out towards the first cluster of buildings he saw in the distance, hoping one of them would be the saloon where Eve was being kept.

Ciri - Library

"Don't mind the boy, you know how they are at that age," Ciri said to Priest. "I just make sure to keep my swords sharpened and at the ready, and he doesn't try to pull those things on me." She gave a laugh as she followed along with Yoshika to the librarian's desk. Looking around, she saw that there were quite a few people she knew - maybe not well, but at least well enough to have some suspicion that they would jump to Yoshika's aid should Seiga somehow appear. Assuming Madame Tairee didn't throttle her first, of course.

"Well then Yoshika, if all goes well you'll be adopted by the end of the day, and I'll have to work on the next item in the contract: Making sure that Seiga cannot harm you after you've been turned human." She put her hands on her belt as she waited, she had been thinking for nearly two days about how to permanently kill someone in a city where no one can truly die, and none of her ideas were particularly savory. It would take time, effort, and plenty of research, which would be simpler to do once Yoshika was turned back human and she no longer had to worry about Seiga.

Library

"Boys will be boys, I suppose. The whole sword bit is a bit over the top but nonetheless effective. I make do with the scythe myself." Chuckling in merriment as Ciri explained the circumstances, her good humor instantly evaporated as she learned of certain details. "...Undead? This girl?" Staring more fully at the small child before her that was truly full of good cheer from what was happening and looking more deeply into the aspect of Gluttony exuded, the Priest couldn't help but feel a pang of what could only be described as profound sadness at the fact that one as young as her had to live such a sordid life of an unfeeling corpse, unable to truly pass onto the gates of heaven while being stuck with the infirmities of the decayed flesh.

The fact that it seemed to be something like a curse where the effects could be taken away though was something rather unexpected and had even given the sorrowful woman a bit of hope towards the young girl who was ever so innocent. Truly, she hoped that whatever was about to happen would go on without a hitch. It was only with the slightest of excess moisture pooling in her eyes did the woman betray any such feelings physically though, for an image had to be kept up after all.

Wiping away the condensation and focusing on something else while the excited group was having their moment, the demon hunter turned to face Rex as he embarrassingly told his own tale of woe. "Hmm... as long as you truly didn't know what you were getting into, that isn't much of a strike against you. After all, deals made with the metaphorical and often times literal devils will prove to always have either a clause or downside to make up for the promised reward. You must be careful in the future and learn from this mistake, hm?" Giving the boy a tip based on personal experience, Sin Sayer suddenly found that the blood in her body was resonating.

The feeling was most definitely that of either a demon or someone with the blood of such flowing through their body, though a decided lack of overall malevolence was noted. Just like how there were many kinds of humans in the world, the same could be said to go for demons. They came in all shapes and sizes, their morality manifold and varied. To lump them up in a single group was simply idiocy of the highest level.

Feeling the tug of magnetism involved between fellow members of the mystically inclined race, Sin Sayer soon found herself standing a few feet before the girl Seirwuosehr, pretty much homed in on the attractive force involved. "You... are a demon?" Whisper as soft and smooth as silk, the clergywoman inquired with a look of pleasant surprise as she saw the rather demure demon in question with her physical eyes. Not a hint of hatred or malevolence could be garnered from her expression, in fact she was simply peering down in open-minded curiosity and the slightest bit of kinship. "Pandemonian? Majin?"

Digger - Library

I hardly knew this kid, and yet I couldn't help but feel terrible. Whatever was going on with him, it sounded important (maybe too important for someone his age) so I said "okay" and left him to his own devices.

Thankfully, the library had something I could only find here; cold. I sighed with relief, grateful to get out of the heat, until I remembered what I came here for and started heating up again. Metaphorically.

I stomped towards the lady behind the counter until I realized that being smaller than the counter probably ruined the effect. "Hello, miss? I was told I could contact the god that brought us here from this place, but it doesn't look very...god-like. Granted, us wombats don't have gods, but I've never seen a temple that had a library."

Ganesh flashed in my mind.

"Actually, scratch that, I mean a temple that was just a library."

Library

"Alright, here you are" the Miss Tairee at the central desks said simply, and with a blur, a little name plaque appeared. Said plaque was made of white chocolate, with cookie lettering that said 'Yoshika Miyako'. With that done, Miss Tairee glanced down at Digger and raised an eyebrow. "That's because it's not a temple; it's just a library. You can send messages to my boss through the suggestion box" the librarian informed the wombat simply, and motioned to the suggestion box.

Meanwhile, Seirwuosuhr glanced up at the priestess as she approached; but as soon as she had spoken, Seirwuosuhr let out a yelp and cupped her hands on top of her head where her horns were, despite them still being invisible. "H-h-how did, you..." Seirwuosuhr stammered, frightened and looking close to the verge of tears.

"Miss, please; that is a sensitive topic for her" the Miss Tairee sitting nearby said neutrally. Tommy was finally waking up at this point, sitting up on the couch he was on and blinking wearily.

Just outside the library

"Don't you worry, Swishee's got a good eye, so she and I could fly up really high and still be able to spot you" Louie assured Ben, giving a thumbs up. The trainer then ducked back just inside the door long enough to recall his pokemon that were inside, then stepped back out and released Swishee. "We're on a rescue mission Swishee; get us up real high, and keep an eye on Ben" the trainer instructed his pelipper, who gave a honk in response before letting Louie climb into her bill and taking off.

Lewis - Home Sick Home - Chef Without Taste

She was weirded out by the request for her to smell the locket, as one might expect, before seemingly realizing that her clothes were also confectioneries and reacting as you might expect, then turning her attention back to the glowing blue trinket handed to her...and getting distracted by the scent of the little paper thing. While I'd noticed the grape scent of the slip, by virtue of it being obnoxious and overpowering, it'd ultimately been minor compared to the more burningly familiar of the two scents.

I stared at my locket.

"It's the chocolate," I began, before pausing.

And then, with words that felt surprisingly natural, I continued, with a sudden burst of pride.

"Made with the finest ingredients money can buy in small-town Texas, as fresh as possible, with freshly ground capsica mixed in to give it that special signature kick. Heavenly hellish, everyone's always said, and for good reason. Very good reason.

"I know it, and I don't know how I know it but I do, and the first thing I think of is home but I can't remember what 'home' is, if I have anyone waiting for me, don't know how I'm supposed to explain that I'm..."

I turned away, shaking my head, and pulled it back toward me. This was making it worse, damn it.

I didn't say anything for a few moments, before the radio that had been blasting music before came alive to comment on what had to be one of those 'adoption' posters. People were going to be piling in the library now for this thing, and who knows that we won't be too late if we didn't hurry.

"It's starting," I said, getting up.

Joel and the bots looked around awkwardly. "Uh, Joel, what should we do right now?" Crow asked.

"Well, someone's in danger, so I think we should help." Joel told the bots.

"Us? Help? Joel, are you insane?" Tom questioned, stunned.

"Well, we cannot just sit back and do nothing. We're Robinsons, we have to help!", Joel reasoned.

"You're not my real father!" Crow said.

"No more glad than I am," Arcade said, helping Chise tie Despair up. He turned the demon's head over to assess the damage, trying to decide if they would have to patch Despair up for the trip to the library.

He was distracted by Jackson's sudden appearance. Smarmy, ugly suit, outdated slang... Wonderful, he was hoping to find another Benny. Still, he couldn't go assuming things.

"It's a long story," Arcade replied, slightly uncomfortable, "but suffice to say that we need to get Despair here to the library. We need to keep him from trying to... Trying to break anyone else's minds."

And here she thought that after working with Leigarch for so long she was used to all kinds of sudden movements and swerves. Not this kind. Still, she fought the revulsing sensation valiantly. Shaking her head, Shenhua finally straightened up, expression slightly bemused. "Aiya, thought we walk here..." She muttered, giving the surroundings a cursory glance.

It was a library alright, and the biggest one she had ever seen. A pleasant surprise from the diabetes-inducing surroundings a moment ago. The one library in Roanapur was small, dusty and not at all very helpful unless you were using it to hide in the quietness of the bustling citylife or a roaring firefight.

And then there was a wombat engaged in a conversation with the librarian. Yyyup. Instant warning sign. At least they had relatively mundane problems in this place, like mass murderers, adoptions and persona non grata that Rex was for whatever reason.

Speaking of whom, he seemed familiar with Sawyer. "You describe her well. Hope you get along while she here." Shenhua smiled at the alleged troublemaker. The kid who was supposedly a demon probably didn't warrant much of her attention - especially since the librarian, one of many in fact, already addressed the issue. "Now, what this about crazies dying by some predator?" She asked Rex, addressing the radio news about the Church of Literacy.

Chise - Outside

While we were tying up Despair, a man showed up asking what was going on and apparently he was familiar with him. That was curious but it was also not the time to have idle chatter. Once Despair woke up he was probably going to escape again...

"Sorry for the disturbance, sir, but things got a little complicated. We're going to bring him to the library so he won't hurt anyone."

I paused for a moment as I realized what he was eating.

"... Are you eating sand?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"If you ask him for something, he might give you a challenge for it which could be more than you bargained for. Other than that, I doubt he'll do anything until the next peaceful day, when he would then have a response waiting for you here in the library" Miss Tairee explained to Digger. "So it mainly depends on what you write to him" the librarian added simply, with an ever so slight shrug.

Somewhere in a street

Jackson paused, one eyebrow rising slightly as Arcade mentioned a brief version of the situation. "... Reeeally... Now isn't that interesting..." Jackson muttered, eyeing the unconscious Cole for a moment. Then he glanced at Chise with a quick, "hmm?"

"You haven't noticed today's thing? Everything's like made of food; even our clothes. I'd demonstrate on you, but..." Jackson trailed off and looked Chise up and down. "You're not exactly my type. Anyway, good luck with the demon boy; if he turns back to Compassion again, tell him I said hi. We're good friends" the man continued, giving the two a wink and a somewhat wicked grin, before casually walking off, starting to whistle.

Arcade was regretting ever speaking to Jackson. When he started eyeing up Chise, Arcade put himself between the two protectively. The only upside to the conversation was that he left on his own, and quickly.

"I really wish I could say he's the slimiest man I've ever met," he commented. With that he shook off the encounter and hauled Cole onto his back in a fireman's carry. He glanced over at Chise and said, "did you want to accompany me over to the library? I'd understand if you..." He looked down at the ground, "you have people you'd rather be with."

So apparently everything today was made of candy, including our clothes. And this man was all too willing to show that by eating my clothes and the only thing stopping him from doing so was that I wasn't "his type". I couldn't help but take a couple of steps back as Arcade began getting in front of me, despite knowing I was "safe".

Thankfully he left immediately afterwards without making any further comments other than something about Cole turning back to Compassion. Was that what he was usually? Compassion instead of Despair? That would make sense with what Lewis told me in the dream, but why did he turn to Despair exactly? Does taking off his power limiter really drive him mad like that?

I was distracted from all of this when Arcade spoke to me, feeling guilty about trying to make me give up hope earlier. I went to his side, giving him a smile.

"I understand how you feel. I'm not angry at you for what happened. Living is painful a lot of the time and it's easy to think that it would all be easier if you just gave up. I used to think that too, but now I'm finally able to think that there will be a tomorrow and that I should look forward to it," I said, then grabbing his free hand, "And I want to help you be able to do the same."

Arcade returned Chise's smile, slightly surprised that she was so understanding. Then again, as she explained, she'd gone through the same thing. When she grabbed his hand, Arcade couldn't help but marvel slightly.

She had grabbed his right hand, while Despair had always taken his left. It... Was nice. Not only was she warm— unlike the coldness Despair radiated— but she was trying to show him that she was there for him. Despair had always felt slightly patronizing; he had the power and he knew it.

His smile slipped, though, when he muttered, "if I even have a tomorrow." He sighed and slipped his hand out from Chise's. He wished he didn't need both of them to keep Despair stable on his back. He gestured with his head for her to follow and started off towards the library.

I followed after Arcade, walking next to him as he carried Despair on his back. I listened to his rather pessimistic view on his future and I couldn't really blame him for having such a view. Even not knowing what he went through, for Despair to have gotten him so low, it must have been something truly painful.

"If you're still here, then I'm sure you'll have a tomorrow to look forward to," I pointed out, as there was no way to truly die in this place, "Even if you're sent back to your home land, the future is uncertain. If even someone like me could eventually find some peace, I'm sure you can too."

He shook his head, but then stopped and looked at her guiltily. "I shouldn't be complaining about my problems if you're actually dying," he said, "are you ill? Is there anything I can do to help?"

So apparently this whole scenery was familiar to Arcade to the point he forgot he wasn't at home. I wasn't really sure what to think of that, but the conversation soon ended up drifting towards the nature of my lifespan.

"To make it simple, I have a weak heart that pumps out a lot of blood, more than it can handle. It's largely something that has to do with magic, so I'm not sure if anyone who's not a mage or an alchemist can do anything about it." I explained, remaining calm and making it clear that I wasn't being trouble by any of it, "According to Elias, I have 3 years at most until my body expires."

"Through the blood." Despite the answer being simple, it was a very true answer said with the utmost seriousness, a red spark alighting in her eyes even as she allowed herself to reform a part of her more demonic form atop her human appearance- namely that of her own goat-like horns that were like curved black spirals. It was only for a split second before being dispersed, but probably enough for the girl to catch. Also fast enough for anyone else to probably not catch sight of considering she was turned away from the group in general and the horn being the same shades of black as her hair.

Her dealing giving all she needed to know about this particular demon in question, Sin Sayer regarded Miss Tairee and Seirwuorsehr with a small smile that held the slightest amount of sheepishness within, an expression as subtle as most of her other ones. "My apologies, young miss. I meant no harm." Indeed, this was a usual far-cry to her usual reactions of feeling out demons, it wasn't often she founded ones that were more people than monsters.

Holding an open hand to her chest and bowing forward slightly in a decidedly masculine and priestly way contrasting her appearance, the Priest attempted to make amends. "I do not know why you are nervous but... you have nothing to be ashamed of. I guarantee it." Sins tell no lies after all, and there was less of those about than in regular people save perhaps maybe the slightest smidgen of Envy?

The arrival of a man and a group of really weird robots brought his worry to a momentary halt. The Guardian glanced at them. "Uh... it's a long story. Arcade suggested asking the librarian for help. That was true, she did work for some kind of deity, so maybe she could do something about it. At the same time, it felt a little selfish to bother someone completely unrelated to try to help me with my own problems, so I wasn't really sure if I should burden her with all this.

"Elias is already looking out for a way to extend my life, don't worry about it," I said, smiling, "Even if he ends up failing... It's alright, I can accept it."
