Library - Debates with demons

"Perhaps, but you've certainly made a point of point of encouraging harsher punishments, and no attempt to reduce tensions either" Curly said in reply before following OFB's gestures to Ben and noticing Miss Tariee's solemn confirmation of a lack of rule breaking. "I'm aware he attacked you unprovoked, in this context, but from my perspective, you are at fault as well. Even if I'm not the one who get to interpret the rules"

Then Yael went with the short person in the bird mask, which the demon certainly didn't seem to like. And others approached Miss Tariee's desk to make their own requests. in it's own way that felt like victory enough for the moment.

The library

Old Feather Beak seemed to catch on to Ben's plan pretty quickly. He slumped into the bubble and started sulking slightly.

"I was thinking but he didn't take the bait. Well fine. If I can't do that... then... then at least give me and all my friends confidentiality!" he exclaimed. "That demon doesn't read our history unless we say so!" After that, he looked over at Rex, who told him to use "the top heavy guy" once he got out of the bubble.

"Cannonbolt? Nah, I've got a better alien to deal with this buzzard bozo," he muttered, then turned towards Yael as the quarian started to approach Plague Knight, having taken the alchemist's offer. He smirked at Old Feather Beak, then put his hands by his head and blew a raspberry at the daemon. He also saw Cole vying to get him released, once this was all over. His smirk faded slightly. He wanted to get released now, but he could tell that was not about to happen.

Old Feather Beak caught on quickly. It wasn't like Ben was being subtle. Still, it wasn't a terrible plan. Then Rex responded.

"That might actually mean something if I knew who Six is."

Then Ben kind of slumped. He talked about how he had been thinking, so that was good.

"Next time, think harder."

Library - Making a completely frivolous request in the middle of a standoff

The slightly less sobby Tairee at the computer requested that he be more specific as she left him a simple camera on the desk. Seeing as this request had been fulfilled but not the other, Lewis took that to mean 'Please clarify what about your universe you would like to know.'

He went to get another piece of paper and began writing down specific details, scanning the paper a few times to make sure he didn't miss anything. This as Cole voiced a request of his own (multiple, really) regarding Jack, some Ben fellow, stalking, and a sack containing various items.

It occurred to him, overhearing this, that he should probably do something about the current situation, which was a shame because he had no idea what to do.

Unlike Sans over here, who had begun to write down a request of his own as the wraith had been wondering what he could add, staring where Joel had joined a man in a plague doctor aesthetic that he faintly remembered from yesterday. Huh. Hopefully that didn't end badly.

He took one last glance at his list, and, failing to recall anything he might have missed, put down the pen and picked up the sheet...

Wait.

He briefly added something.and then handed the paper to Miss Tairee 1.

Library

As the leaving militia members were getting aboard their ship along with Viola and anyone else that had accompanied them, Miss Tairee 1 looked at Cole. "They broke the rules, it's not that simple" Miss Tairee 1 said apologetically to Cole, starting to type on her computer before glancing over at Plague Knight. "And I'm not allowed to add defenses to your laboratory, no" she told the short knight.

Still pretty much in tears and now also starting to seem flustered, Miss Tairee 1 ran a hand through her hair as Lewis then decided to hand her another note. "You people- now is really not a good time for-" Miss Tairee 1 paused abruptly when a couple of beeps came from the computer. Her eyes widened a little and she stood up to look out through the windows one way, while the other her looked out the windows on the other side. With the way the library was rotated at that moment, one could just make out something starting to happen in both directions.

Outside the effective boundaries of the city, on the two different sides, ships were starting to appear. Some whipped into view at great speeds before slowing to a near stop; others were coming out of various portals that were appearing; still others arrived in more fashions, such as flickering into view as some invisibility field turned off, and more. Pretty soon there were two massive fleets facing towards each other, with the city-turned-miniature-solar-system right in the middle.

Miss Tairee 1 quickly got to typing again, wiping away the line she'd been working on to key in something else. With a blur another walkie talkie appeared on the desk, which she grabbed and set to channel 93. "You two, listen to me! Tell everyone to stay on the planets and in the stations! The fleets will only care about anyone who gets in a ship and gets caught up in it!" Miss Tairee 1 yelled into it.

"What? Huh?" Jeff's voice responded, rather confused.

"Look outside!" Miss Tairee 1 added, taking a breath to say more but stopping as everyone in the room would hear a new sound: The sound of a pen writing on paper.note  As it was happening, both of Miss Tairee had her eyes go even wider, and Miss Tairee 1 dropped the walkie talkie to start typing on her computer more frantically. Thankfully, with only a few key presses, and some quick blurs, Cole and Jack Frost were suddenly back to their not normal, spiritual selves, the bubble around Ben disappeared, and his omnitrix was online and (literally) green to go.

Almost the very second after that, both of Miss Tairee blurred and vanished as the writing sound ceased. Old Feather Beak chuckled darkly. "Well isn't that-"

"OPEN FIRE!" Wells shouted, as he, Samson, and the other human militia member lit up on Old Feather Beak with their respective firearms. The shots impacted a shield around the daemon as he and his followers shimmered with multicolored lights and vanished; the shots continued impacting the invisible shield there for a moment before it was there no longer and the shots instead started hitting the opposite wall, dealing no damage.

"Well if you insist on being so direct about it" Old Feather Beak's voice seemed to say around the entire room at once, "but I must warn you, I'm done playing games!"

There was a sound like the shattering of glass played through an electronic filter, as a transparent shield simultaneously briefly flickered around Plague Knight and then broke; two blades, the transparent omnitool one and the one like a gladius, impaled the knight through the back as Yael stabbed him. "Did you enjoy my acting?!" Yael asked, using the two blades to hoist Plague Knight off the floor slightly and then kick him forward and off the blades as he too shimmered into invisibility.

Library, let the battle be joined

There was a burst of light near the center of the library lobby that radiated outward as multicolored, transparent streams that each curved and twisted this way and that. Along with these, various illusions of light were appearing around the lobby: random geometric shapes that floated, twisting and morphing, occasionally in ways that didn't seem possible; visual copies of everyone in the room save for the daemon and the Ruckus members, each being tortured and mutilated in various ways. The visual space of the lobby was becoming an absolute clusterfuck, making things easily disorienting.

For those unfortunate few who didn't have a wraithbone amulet on, things got even worse as they'd immediately get a splitting headache; and they were subjected to the mental illusion of seeing the real versions of everyone around promptly and viscerally explode into nightmarish abominations.note  They could see through these mental illusions if they concentrated, but the illusions of light were not mental, and thus no such luck could be achieved for them.

Visual illusions of Old Feather Beak were also present, but unlike the others they weren't visibly dying or being tortured in any way; instead they were just standing there, menacingly casting spells. But things were far from over there; Old Feather Beak was not only trying to confuse them.

Sans, Caro, and Fried were abruptly telekinetically grabbed, and thrown right towards each other with intent to make them collide violently in mid air.

Ben's omnitrix was green and ready, but a mesh of green light was now persistently dancing around the display, making it just about impossible for him to tell which alien was currently selected on it.

Next to Ben, Eve got a very short warning as a projectile shimmered into visibility when it was already coming towards her face very quickly: One of the glass jars with a black slime in it.

Elsewhere, Lothric and Lorian had the same thing happen as Eve.note

In addition to the mental, nightmarish illusions Jack Frost was being subjected to, he likewise got barely any warning as he saw a projectile shimmer into visibility, already coming towards him very quickly: One of the gladius like swords coming toward his torso.note

There was a cacophonous gunshot nearby Mega Man X, and a frankly irresponsible amount of buckshot slammed into the shield he'd been given, immediately shattering it and battering his armor slightly. This was followed up by an abrupt lightning bolt fired from across the room that would hit him right in his midsection.

Cole was telekinetically grabbed like Sans and Caro, and was flung straight upwards into the open space above the central desks, towards the glass dome in the ceiling at dangerous speeds.note

Ara was hit by a burst of blue plasma projectiles coming from behind her, which shattered her shield by the time she even knew. Another burst soon followed, coming from the same direction which happened to be behind a couch a good number of paces away.

Lewis was actually not subjected to the mental illusions despite not having a wraithbone amulet; though he did still get the headache. Instead of the mental illusions, he would now have to fight against a great pressure as some outside force started trying to cram his projected body back into his locket, like a squeezing vice of a soul-based nature. Though he could fight this off with enough concentration, what he couldn't was that his locket, and by extension him, was being telekinetically thrown up towards the second floor, through the open space in the center of the library.

Lucas, like others, got a short warning of a projectile coming his way as it flickered into visibility already coming towards him very fast: A large spear of ice.

The foul, acrid odor was the only telling Yael's general position, which was currently somewhere near Curly. A burst of gunfire hit her from one direction, then a moment later another came from a slightly different direction. The quarian seemed to be constantly moving as he fired on her, her shield quickly shattering.

Rex was hit by a sudden lightning bolt from across the room; the shield he'd been given took the hit and left him unharmed by it, but did shatter in the process. The lightning bolt was being followed up with a fireball about the size of a basketball coming from a different direction, aimed towards his feet; whatever it impacted, be it Rex himself or the floor, it would explode with a small shock wave of fire.

Across the central desks from their position, three orb projectiles fired towards the militia members in a stagger from left to right, though they traveled relatively slowly, only about as fast as someone could run. Fastanook seemed to recognize them with wide eyes, especially when they suddenly expanded to about twice their previous size halfway towards them. "RUN!" Fastanook yelled, scrambling in the opposite direction of the projectiles. Thankfully the other militia members were quick to respond and move. Right about where they had been, the three projectiles each suddenly exploded, covering the area they exploded upon with ice crystals; though the militia members avoided the explosions, frozen pieces of furniture were flung about, and one smacked Samson in the back, shattering his shield.

Thomas had raised his wand and was trying to chant some spell, when another projectile flickered into visibility on a crash course towards him: One of the swords, aimed right for his gut. And it didn't look like he'd be able to dodge or do anything about it on his own in time.

Along with the Fanboys currently taking cover behind a couch up against the wall of one side of the room, the only person currently left untouched was Plague Knight. Probably because of the impalement he already took and thus the potential that he might already be out of the fight.

The library

Ben winced back as the attacks hit him suddenly, and the illusions messed with him and his Omnitrix. He glared, readying the Omnitrix. "All right then! I can't see what I'm choosing, so I'd better hope for the best! C'mon, watch, gimme a good one!" With that, Ben slammed his hand onto the face of the watch. When the light cleared, Diamondhead stood in the room, and he struck a pose.

"Diamondhead! Good choice, watch!" With that, he reached into the bag and pulled out the hammer. It was heavy so he did it with difficulty, but he got it ready, swinging it clumsily in front of him. "All right then, demon dweebs! I got a magic evil-killing hammer and I"m not afraid to use it!" In between swings, he gestured his arm towards some people who seemed to be under attack, and shot crystal darts in the direction of their seemingly invisible assailants.

He just hoped that he didn't stab any innocents in the process.

Having hallucinations isn't hard when you got a librarby card!!!

Lucas was looking at the shield generator when everything went to hell. The second the librarian left, the room descended into chaos. As PK was impaled, Lucas started to feel the beat of this battle resonating in his head; the tone that guided his combos was moving at a very erratic pace.

Right after Lucas comprehended the battle had started, his head felt like it was exploding. Nothing made sense anymore, a weird tint overtook his vision. And then they... everyone exploded into those... things. The wide smiles and the open eyes, they pierced into his soul. They were laughing, mocking, jeering, blaming him.

Lucas felt like crying.

Wait. This wasn't right, it couldn't be right. Those Eerie Smiles, they weren't real back then, right? What were they back then? It hit Lucas. They weren't real. He couldn't be kind and help his friends if he fell for this and mother wanted him to be kind. He had to see through this, he could almost see this for what it really was... it was coming into focus, and... it was gone. And in its place was a giant spear of ice threatening to pierce clean through him.

Lucas was actually the slowest member of his team back home, and therefore had no hope of dodging out of the way. Instead, he cast Shield Ω which, by its nature as a mass shield, would automatically cover 3 other people. He reflexively protected those with even slight similarities to things and people from home. Caro got a shield, as Lucas's recently attacked mind associated pink hair with his dear friend Kumatora. X got one for his superficial resemblance to what had become of Lucas's beloved brother. Finally, Ben got one due to his personality being a dead ringer for Claus's. Hopefully it would be enough to save him from the spear.

Cole didn't have enough time to process everything that was happening when it happened. Miss Tairee had said something that he thought meant "no" for his questions, and suddenly began frantically typing and yelling about something to do with staying on planets and in stations? Whatever that meant?

He had been just about to ask her about his request for the spindleweed when something came over him, and it was like every bit of his powers came reeling back into his head, almost as fierce and overwhelming as when he had first begun to use them.

And then it was even worse.

Cole grabbed at his head, screaming aloud at the weird, warped things in his eyes, in his head, the vision of Varric rotting into maggots that OFB had inflicted on him in a dream was nothing compared to what was coming now. His friends, old and new, red Templars, a yawning, black chasm of nothingness all around, it was too much, it was too much-

Then even that got overwhelmed, when Cole felt himself being yanked off his feet, without any notion of anyone or anything around him to do that, and he let out a shriek at being flung up so hard that it was like falling, but the world had decided suddenly he would fall into the ceiling instead of the ground, it was too fast, it was all just too fast-

There was an audible THUD that rattled his entire system when he hit the glass, so hard that he felt his teeth click together in a way they shouldn't go, the helmeted part of his hat doing nothing to stop the blinding impact on his head and rattling down his back. That hurt vanished at a sudden feeling of breathlessness, gasping for air where there seemed to be none, chest stabbing and aching even as he did that, unable to breathe for as hard as his body was trying without him telling it to. If he had been more able, he might have been grateful for the creeping unconsciousness that followed such an impact sparing him from the horrific visions, but the disorientation and pain made sure he had no such emotions, just going somewhere between conscious and not, floating outside himself somehow even while still being in himself. It wasn't altogether unpleasant, really, though at some level he realized it wasn't right.

That same level realized just as quickly that the world had abruptly decided he should be falling towards the floor after all, and it was with some amount of dispassion he watched the floor coming up, the walls going by, his hat fluttering off. That was disappointing. He had just gotten that back.

This wasn't going to end well, he figured, but there wasn't much he could do about it either. Cole just squeezed his eyes shut and waited for the impact.

Library - for once i'll give it my all

Sans was suddenly thrown right into Caro, they were already very close to each other so it wasn't really all that much of an issue especially with the shields absorbing the impact for them, although from the shattering sound he heard afterwards it was enough to break them, but at least he didn't die instantly. Now that the enemy was invisible and there were weird lights everywhere, now seemed to be a perfect time to use his goggles, which reminded him that he still had a spare one.

Sans put on his goggles and looked around to see the position of OFB and his goons, noticing that the former was hiding upstairs. Seeing that, he decided it would be better to focus on the ones that were still down there with him.

"caro, cover me," Sans whispered to the girl next to him.

With that said, Sans summoned three big Gaster Blasters, these being almost as tall and larger than him, he then had those fire at the location of OFB's goons other than Yael, hoping to quickly get them out of the picture before they cause more trouble.

"wells!" Sans called out after the blasters fired, taking off the goggles for a moment and tossing the extra pair to the militia leader without much explanation as he hoped that he would pick up on everything quickly before putting the goggles back on.

Eve|Library

This was not good. Eve went to transform, and was then...distracted by the illusions. She was almost transfixed, terrified and frozen. Then all her instincts yelled at her. RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!

Eve hit the floor. Broken out of her reverie by the attack, she dodged quickly, sending the jar of black stuff flying over her head. She didn't have space in her head for anyone else, or anything else but the fight.

Springing from her previous position, a large axe-like blade swept at where the projectile had come from, while Eve kept an eye out for other attacks.

Library - WHAT EVEN IS HAPPENING OH GOD

The librarian began to admonish him for requesting things at an inappropriate time before suddenly cutting herself off and began looking outside. She then screamed into a walkie-talkie about what Lewis could just barely recognize as a fleet of ships comparable to ones you might see in Arthur's sci-fi movies, typed a few thingsnote , and vanished.

Everything went to hell faster than he could finish the statement "What, but I—".

The leaving militia group opened fire on the bird and his minions, who then vanished in a stream of colors, but not before Joel stabbed the fellow he had previously been standing next to. The library suddenly gave way to a similarly-colorful mess of nonsense filled with duplicates of everyone but the disappeared ruckus, each being violently tortured. The real versions of those people hadn't actually moved from where they were, except for those springing to action, and...

He was suddenly struck with the feeling of being grabbed by the locket and yanked upwards, which, more importantly, was accompanied by a more pressing feeling: a sensation across his entire body that some force was in the process of cramming him back into his soul, which seemed in the irrational part of his mind comparable to the squeezing of some vital organ, a drawn-out version of the brief moment before it was fully pierced and exploded like a bloody water balloon, ending the unfortunate victim in the process.

no no no no no no no no no no no NO

Given an outlet by his panic, the force managed to reduce his form to a mess of pink firenote , but not force (most of) it to retreat once more into the locketnote  before he managed to snap himself back to attention just enough for fear to mutate into rage.

With that he concentrated every bit of his attention toward reforming, drowning out the awful migraine and the cacophony and the perceived familiarity of the sensation of being force-dispersed. Eventually pink fire gave way to his usual appearance, though with some visible fraying evidencing the previous struggle.

Creating some flame around his hands to attack anything that tried anything, Lewis looked around himself (minding the compression force just enough to avoid a repeat of what had just happened) to find that unfortunately everything was still a clusterfuck of shapes, and he couldn't find anyone who wasn't being gored.

Great.

Viola I Library (Outside) -> Militia Spaceship I All Aboard!

And without any warning, the odd cat that I've just met decided to make one of my shoulder his resting spot. I turned my gaze at him for a moment, unsure of what to say or think to this obvious invasion of personal space.

... Well, not that I really mind. Turning back forward, I went at the first library door and followed the rest of the militia's example of putting their helmet on themselves to have a full bodysuit covering them(whether the cat has enough of a sense to do the same, I'll leave it up to him) before another door leading outside opens up, where our way out is located.

Militia Spaceship

Now safely within, away from the troubles of the library, I stood, looking around and actually seeing myself in space. I have to admit, the view was certainly breathtaking, seeing as this was the first time I've ever been to space.

The Judge - Militia Ship - Glad I'm Not a Part of That

Having put on his helmet and climbing aboard the militia ship, The Judge quickly settled down in any old spot, removed his helmet, and thought about what he had just left behind. It seemed like things were getting pretty heated, so it's a good thing he decided to leave when he did. But now he had to think about the next step to take. He turned to a random militia member and asked "So, where will we have the honor of absconding to after that unwelcome encounter?"

Militia ship leaving library

When the Judge suddenly talked, a few of the militia members looked at him with raised eyebrows. "Huh, a talking cat. That's a... New one" one of them said, in a tone like he wasn't terribly surprised, though clearly still found it somewhat noteworthy nonetheless.

"Our plan right now is to head to our base at the jail. That's probably the safest place in the city right now, but if you want us to drop you off at a place with a lower profile to keep your head down, that's up to you" Nails, the one who the Judge had actually spoken to, mentioned to the intelligent feline.

Right about that time, their walkie talkies went off with the voice of another militia member. "Prison base to all militia out in ships. The news channel is advising that the fleets that just appeared will not attack anyone remaining grounded, but might fire indiscriminately on anyone currently in a ship. Until we've got confirmation or orders from Wells, I say find somewhere to lay low pronto. If you can get back to the prison, do that, otherwise hunker down somewhere else, over."

"Fleets? What- oh shitballs" the pilot said, looking out the front window as the ship turned and brought one of the distant fleets into view.

One of the militia members floated over and took a look just above the pilot's shoulder. "... It looks like they aren't doing anything right now" the militia member commented. Indeed, the ships currently seemed to just be sitting where they had arrived.

"Yeah but like hell I'm waiting for them to start. I'm gunning it for the prison" the pilot responded, the ship silently lurching forward.

"Uh, I guess you should make your decision quickly" Nails told the Judge and Viola.

Meanwhile, on channel 94

Though those in the library probably wouldn't really hear it due to the amount of chaos going on there, those in other buildings could hear the message coming through. "So folks, we just got a call not long ago from what I think was the librarian, and we had to go take a look outside to see what the heck she was talking about" Jeff's voice began, then Adam segued in, almost cutting Jeff off.

"I'm sure many of you already noticed the two frickin' huge fleets of ships that just appeared outside our cozy little solar system. Now if what we got told was correct, the thing you all need to do is just remain calm, not panic, and stay indoors somewhere. She said that anyone staying on a planet or inside a space station will be fine, and the ships won't mess with you if you don't mess with them. But if instead you get in a ship and fly around like a panicking, idiot chicken with its head cut off, they will shoot you down. Besides, I don't see where you would possibly be running away to right now, so I think it would be pointless to try anyway" Adam's voice said.

"At least that's what we were told, so you know ah, please don't come biting our heads off if that turns out to be false" Jeff's voice then said.

"... You know, I know you meant that metaphorically, but I bet there's some people who could come and actually bite our heads off in this city" Adam's voice mentioned.

"... Dude, shut up" Jeff's voice retorted, which was followed by some laughter from Adam in the background.

Viola I Militia Spaceship I Decision Time!

So now they were other ships flying towards them, trying to shoot down anyone that wasn't indoors or on a station? That's not good.

In addition to the Militia and their walkie-talkie talking about the situation, I felt something, and brought up the walkie-talkie that I've managed to quickly pocketed before that unfair confrontation with Miss Tairee. Looks like I still have it on to Channel 94. Bringing it up so that the rest could probably hear, I listened intently to it.

After it having finished, I looked between the Militia and the incoming ships that had suddenly appeared. After much thought, I've reached a consensus. "I'd rather rest my head on somewhere safe without needing anything to worry about, so I think I'll take my chance with the prison,"

Ara Haan (Library) - Field Boss Encounter Start!

There was only one way to describe what was taking place in the library at the moment the fight inevitably broke out: complete and utter chaos. All types of illusions suddenly unleashed, and attacks started flying in all directions. One in particular, although it was quite feeble, shattered Ara's shield, forcing her to focus on the fight rather than the horrible visions. She was able to dodge the second burst, and fo a brief moment, she prepared herself for a counter attack, but... I did not want to see her waste her efforts on small fry. No, her fight was somewhere else.

'Are you sure that one will be challenging enough for you?

She did not ponder it any longer, and instead darted off towards the side, moments before a large energy burst soared through the place where she had been standing, straight towards the underling's improvised cover. Following my directions, she quickly jumped up, preparing herself to unleash the same technique she had stored for the poor bastard with the plasma weapon. The fact that she did not know exactly where to aim did not stop her from launching her attack.

"HOOOOOO!"

Her howl may have sounded bizzarre to the untrained ear, but that was soon overshadowed by the fact that, with each of the four swings of her now intensely glowing spear, another long howl could be heard. Four large spectral wolf heads roared furiously, advancing at great speeds towards the general area where OFB was located, where they promptly exploded, as many of her techniques tend to do.

By the time the fourth swing took place, her appearance had changed noticeably. Her hair had turned white, and her eyes were bright red. There were red markings on her face and nine spectral tails behind her back. A familiar sight for some in the room for sure, albeit there was one minute difference. The playful smile I had sported three days earlier was completely absent, replaced by a very serious expression.

Unlike me, Ara was ready to fight seriously from the beginning.

Lobros

Ah. So this was the power of the dreaded demon with an unpronouncable name. It felt... different. Exhilarating, in a sense.

The illusions erupted all around them and the growing headache was making it hard to focus - Lorian was feeling it too, it seemed - but it was no time to grovel or complain. The giant blade of his brother shone with hellfire that he took from the prince of demons back home, back then.

Lothric leveled his own staff at the incoming projectile, firing a simple magic arrow to destroy it before it reached them. Of course, it flew right through the illusion. The demon was trying to confuse him and he could see that some of his targets were less fortunate than them.

And the stench was marking the location of one of demon's associates. "Brother. Strike true where the odor lies." He spoke softly, tapping Lorian's shoulder. The giant took a measured step... and disappeared in a pillar of holy light, reappearing in vicinity of Curly, the ginormous blade raised up and then dropped down upon where Yael's stench lingered, the strike meant to cleave the air and the floor and all that dared impose upon its path.

At the same time, Lothric made sure a few more arrows are ready to be fired in case enemy's position manifested itself clearly to nail him dead on.

Library battle - Hell in a flowerbasket

Even with Curly's faster than average cybernetic reaction speed, there was hardly time for her to pull out her machinegun and fire at the spot OFB used to be before she was struck with a splitting pain inside her head she'd never experienced before, and suddenly a red mist emitted by the geometric shapes flooded the room, everyone's eyes went red and wild, white fur sprouted, in mere moments all were rabbit like creatures 2-3 times larger than usual, some with wounds from her weapons.

"Aaaugh! No, How did you get those flowers...?"

Curly turned and pointed her gun at the others, swiftly changing from one target to another as she attempted to predict which monster would attack first, when she rounded on the nearest person, her eyes going wide in recognition as she stepped back, putting a hand on her head from the pain of the headache.

"T-toroko? No... You're dead! I...."

Fortunately or not, the rabbit that was Cole went flying toward the ceiling, and gunfire battering her shield offered a nudge of clarity. Those weren't her allies turned monsters attacking her (at least, not yet) it was one of the several copies of OFB... Except he didn't have a gun, did he? That was about as clear as anything got before Curly opened fire with her machinegun, starting a quick sweep of plasma bolts from ahead of her best guess of what direction the source of the bullet impacts was headed and away towards where she thought the demon's minons had last been as the shield shattered and she jumped and activated her booster. Her legs were grazed by bullets as she lifted off, but if Yael's shield flashed from the attack she'd try to concentrate her fire on him as she cut off the booster intending to land behind Miss Tairee's desk for some cover and a chance to get her bearings.

The Library — When the cat's away, the mice will play

Eve would have responded Rex's statement comparing her with Six but she had no idea who he was.

"He's a partypooper and not that in touch with his emotions" Man, he really missed that guy "Great, now I'm getting all homesick"

But enough of that, Yael was supposedly going to change sides...

And turns out he was just trying to deceive them. Typical henchman strategy. Good news for Rex, who hadn't believed any of his words. Bad news for Plague Knight who took quite a beating from the quarian. The Ruckus and their leader then became invisible and disappeared, trying to stop any attacks. At least Joel still smell like shit. There was no way he was going get away with it.

"Please, I've seen telenovelas with better acting than that"

With Tairee gone 'kicking ass' became the number one choice to solve this conflict (not like any other option would work at this point, anyway). The library was now filled with visions of everyone dying in quite horrific ways. They were obviously fake because there were several copies of each person but that didn't strop them from looking realistic, and in turn, deeply disturbing. As usual, Rex's strategy was throwing a joke at the problem.

"Can anyone else see the trippy illusions? It's not just me, right?"

The quips had to take a step back to action since a lightning bolt hit Rex with enough force to break his shield. And then a fireball was shot in his direction not long after, just to make sure he was hurt. Everything was going to hell and Rex had to think on his feet. Most of the people were already being tortured which made little sense since OFB couldn't do that, could he?

Assuming those were fake, (And even if they weren't, Rex could do little to save them while under heavy fire) Rex chose to help the ones that weren't actually hurt. Like that guy over there waving a wand around. What was he trying to accomplish?note  As if trying to prove how that was useless, a flying sword, courtesy of the Ruckus, was aiming straight to gut him.

Rex jumped out the way of the fireball, using his giant technohands to propel himself in Thomas' direction and put his metal construct between the sword and the wizard. Even if saving him was a good thing, the teen couldn't help but feel like he had fallen into a trap.

"Please tell me you are not a hallucination"

Library - Protection detail

Things went south rather quickly. Miss Tairee vanished, freeing Ben, Jack and Cole from her punishments but also leaving the demon and its followers finally free to assault them all. The demon made itself and the other Ruckus members invisible and then attacks started to happen all over the place.

Addiotinally, the space was filled with all sorts of weird imagery as well as copies of everyone, most being disturbingly harmed in some way, as well as copies of the demin itself. She was still wearing an amulet, so it could be assumed that there physical illusions rather than mental ones. She dreaded to think of what those unfirtunate enough to not be protect were being subjected to in addition o all this ...

Then suddenly, she felt herself being thrown in Sans' direction, with Friec being hurled as well. Fortunately, they had those shields Curly had requested and those absorbed the impact and shattered. Well, that was one protection down. She wondered if it was a one time thing or if could regenerate. She really hoped it was the latter. In anycase, the shields fortunately had cushioned the impact for Fried as well.

Once she got her bearings back, she heard Sans ask her to cover him. She immediately went for it, since without additional protection, he would be gone in any one and personal reasons for not wanting him to die aside, he was their biggest chance against the Lord of Chance.

As such, first she casted a Twin Boost combination of speed and defense boosts and once he had his attack set up, he threw up a barrier around them. With that done, she would then put on her goggles to help look for their targets. It also meant being able to ignore all those light illusions, due to how said goggles were supposed to work, which was also definitely a plus.

Library - You're Not A Guardian

Jack's hand shuddered, loosing its grip on the phaser in his pocket, as he felt the swell of power return to him. He let out a shuddering breath as pure relief flooded through him. He wiped away a stray tear that had fallen from the sudden rush of emotion, hoping no had seen it.

Then, Tairee vanished and everything got worse. Agonizing pain tore through Jack's head, and he clutched it as he let out a cry; Staggering. He tried to see through his watery eyes, teeth grit against the pain. Something like the Northern Lights exploded out from around the demon, twisting in turning in a disorienting manner in such an enclosed space. The spirit's stomach turned as versions himself and the others in the room appeared, gorey images that he was sure were false but looked real. The demon multiplied, and Jack growled as he remembered how annoying it was to fight someone who could disappear and reappear at will. He could barely think, not used to any pain let alone a headache.

The spirit gripped Twinetender, focusing his concentration on it, and turned to look at Sans and Caro. Who promptly exploded. Everything seemed to stop, and sound fell away as time slowed. The... thing that had once been a young girl jittered and twitched, bits of bone and flesh that had- that had once-

Jack barely even noticed that the creature seemed to be made out of nightmare sand, his eyes panning across the room as he noticed that everyone had been twisted into one. A small part of the spirit's mind felt something was off, but the new pain and the horror of what had just happened won out. It was like the horde day all over again. The horror and the loss all twisted and turned inside him, at the same time. He remembered this feeling, the first time with Sandy.

"Noooo!" Jack screamed, his power flowing through him and his staff. The wind answered his call, and began to tear around the spirit in a sudden gale. Something shimmered as it sped suddenly towards him, but the wind caught it and it spun. It's momentum didn't stop however, and splitting pain tore through his side as it cut right through and kept going. He cried out in pain, then shot forward with Twinetender pointed ahead of him. He aimed at one of the demon's, and pushed as much power he could into a massive bolt of magic. "AAAAAAH!"

The Hardware Store, I'm Goin' (Yes I'm Goin') To Beat Your Ass
"What do you mean, I have to pay you 300 pounds?"

Seiga was at the end of her rope. A good deal of time searching, and the only piece of their quest that they could find was here, in some tiny streetside shack. With today's oddities, it had just enough room to squeeze in and take your helmet off, but it was obvious that in any other day it would be some hastily made wooden stall.

Moreover, the owner of this store was really quite alien. It wasn't the fact that he was some huge blob of wet, leathery skin, with tentacles and a beaked mouth. It wasn't that it was drooling with every word it said, flecking spit worse than Yoshika ever did. It certainly wasn't that it never seemed to blink. No it was because, as it said, "I'm a merchant! You're gonna pay for something you want, and if you don't have money, you're going home empty handed!"

Seiga was quick to retort, "Nobody in this town owns anything. We're just temporary residents in someone else's city, and here you are trying to sell me construction supplies!" The alien shook its head, even with its lack of familiar facial features looking irate. "Look, lady, I'm gonna branch off at least two kids by the end of the week. If you're not gonna pay anything for it, they're gonna starve! How would you like that, to be the evil blue woman who took away all of their money!"

She was about to ask him how they'd starve in a place where the food is free, but she figured out how to solve this situation without trying to bargain with some alien octopus. She could've just had Yoshika kill him, but to do it over a pair of bolt-cutters seemed outrageously petty. Instead, she cut the knot.

"Yoshika, just grab the bolt cutters and leave."

Said person named Yoshika looked up from her magazine, some strange thing with a variety of similar-looking creatures posing with expensive watches, and shrugged. "Well, you could've asked sooner."

After a very interesting and exciting battle between Yoshika, who was just trying to grab something, and the alien, who could barely move at this level of gravity, the duo walked out the store the victors.

"I feel like this was all a bit pointless. Arguing with the most capitalistic alien ever over...a bolt cutter," Seiga said to herself, aware that Yoshika couldn't hear her through the void. She looked down at their ill-gotten prize, but Yoshika tugged at her arm and pointed up.

Passing right next to them, so close that she could make out the occupants inside, was some incredible ship that dwarfed the entire station they were on. One of them, even if it seemed to lack anything resembling a human form, seemed to notice the two and started moving some protrusion. Seiga looked puzzled, but Yoshika got the drift: she waved right back at him.

Now that they were fully returned to the City, they could see that the entire celestial sphere was alight with distant exhausts of interstellar engines, many points of shining metal glistening in the sun. Seiga was never one for science-fiction, but she could make it out for what it was.

So, boss time, then. Getting back to wherever they were headed was going to be difficult.

Library, in which people start dying

Lots of things were happening all at once; the library was still overall a visual mess, like throwing a string of Christmas lights into a wind tunnel and viewing the result through a kaleidoscope.

The biggest addition came in the form of Sans' blaster beams, targeted towards the invisible, human Ruckus members. One of the main troubles of seeing invisible things but not visible things was the risk of friendly fire, and large beams cutting through the whole lobby was not the best choice there; of course, Sans was completely unbeknownst as to whether he had hit any friendlies. What he knew he hit was two of the three guys he was aiming for: The one with the double barrel shotgun/pistol hybrid gun, and the one with the gun that had fired freezing explosions at the militia members. Both went down very promptly and vanished from both visibility and invisibility. The one with the plasma rifle however managed to dodge with a dive to one side.

What Sans unfortunately also managed to hit, was X, who took the brunt of the beam that had gone through the Ruckus member with the shotgun weapon. Fortunately, this was right after Lucas had shielded him, and that managed to absorb the hit for the reploid. Though Lucas' shield was then lost, the shield he had been given by Miss Tairee then recharged. It was then that another of those swords flickered into visibility, already streaking towards his torso from a slight upward angle.

The other odd thing about seeing only what was invisible was how things could sneak up on you that normally couldn't. Sans and Caro could see the various scrolls, swords, and jars of slime floating about that hadn't been thrown yet, but as they got thrown their invisibility flickered off, thus they effectively disappeared from their goggled view. There was an impact on Caro's shield, as the axe blade Eve had thrown through the room crashed into it, but neither Sans nor Caro saw that happen; they also didn't feel the next object hit into the shield, but Sans sure enough felt it...

When he was promptly decapitated by the sword. The cruelest part perhaps, was that Caro wouldn't really have any indication that this had just happened, since she couldn't see Sans. What she would know about was when the same sword then shot sideways and impaled into Fried, going straight through his torso with seemingly minimal effort; the flesh immediately around where the sword had stabbed in was starting to bubble and melt under the effect of the sword's power field. As if in dramatic punctuation, Caro's shield she'd been given by Miss Tairee then recharged.

Probably the second flashiest thing happening was Ara leaping through the air and launching a barrage of magic, exploding wolf heads into an area right at the inner edge of the second floor, where it looked out over the lobby. This also happened to be right where Lewis was standing, and in his preparation to punch at anything that attacked him next, took a nasty brunt of the attack head on. Though the first hit was absorbed by his shield, it also shattered from the hit and thus he took the other three either directly or indirectly via their blasts. Ara could also see from the shape of the blasts hitting and bending around it, that there was a shield around something just on the other side of Lewis.

Lewis, now battered and weakened down, was thrown right into where the shield was, though instead of impacting it he apparently fazed right through it. This was where his locket was suddenly stopped as the invisible Old Feather Beak caught it in his hand. The silver lining for Lewis was that he now knew the daemon was there; the bad news being that this was because the daemon was now absorbing Lewis' soul directly through his locket. It was like the spiritual version of being a can of grape soda getting chugged in large gulps, except far more terrible and painful than that in pretty much every conceivable way; horrifying visions of everyone he cared about, but mostly Vivi, horribly murdering and torturing each other in ways too graphic to be described in this forum. With the daemon having pretty much direct access to his very soul, there was no way Lewis was going to last long, and his power was draining just as quickly as well; he had about a couple seconds if he wanted to attempt any last thing before his world faded into complete nightmares... Until he respawned a few moments later somewhere else in the city, that was.

Ara for her part wouldn't really see this occur, as her course through the air towards the daemon was interrupted as something smashed into her stomach. Shards of broken glass cut her skin as they went shattering in all directions, but the much larger concern was the mass of black colored ooze that stuck onto her and started burning her acidically; the slime grappled with her, attempting to cover as much of her body as possible, as her course was further changed with a telekinetic fling. As if this complication wasn't enough, where she got flung to was directly into the falling Cole, sending the both of them crashing into book shelves on the second floor, across from where OFB was.

Back on the first floor, Rex's attempt to dodge the fireball and intercept the sword heading for Thomas were both successful. He was unable to ask his question to Thomas though, as to his probable surprise the sword impaled through his large hand just about effortlessly, going all the way down to the hilt. Immediately around the blade, his nanites were starting to melt, leaving them unable to currently do anything about the sword and also subjecting Rex to incredible pain. Though at least he did mange to save Thomas, who looked rather surprised, and somewhat panicked. "Oh dear oh dear oh dear" Thomas muttered quickly, then pointed his wand at something he saw on the floor and let out a "wingardium leviosa!" The strange gun dropped by the Ruckus member who had shot at the militia members was then yanked over towards the young wizard.

Things then got a lot worse for Rex, Diamondhead, Eve, Thomas, and Lucas, since they were all close to each other. There was a rather emotional screaming coming from just across the central desks, and a large spread of icy blue magic streams followed it. The shields Lucas had casted on himself and Ben both got blasted away, while Eve and Thomas both had their shields provided by Miss Tairee suddenly shatter. Rex however, unfortunately had his shield still down, so now in addition to the sword impaled through his mechanical hand, his body was now somewhat frozen over. There was one good thing Jack's attack did, and that was hit the black slime crawling on the floor somewhere behind Eve; having no shield, it was promptly frozen solid, now looking like an uneven, smooth chunk of black colored ice.

Diamondhead's spike shots he had thrown out before that mostly went into nothing, save for one which found itself hitting the suddenly teleported Lorian, though thankfully it hit his shield and bounced off; it didn't even shatter the shield, though only just barely. Some of Curly's fire hit into the brothers' backs when they suddenly appeared, making Lothric's shield shatter. As the sword slammed down, they could tell that Yael had not been hit, and could barely hear him dodge rolling to one side over the chaos of the battle. There was an odd thunk! sound, and then something hit Lothric in the side: a dart, which injected him with a toxic poison.

Curly herself would find her landing complicated by the swirling, freezing wind around Jack Frost, who happened to be standing near the central desks where she was looking to take cover; but at least then her shield from Miss Tairee recharged. To Jack Frost, she of course appeared to be one of those horrid, not-quite-Pitch's nightmare creatures that had just taken a leap across the room right towards his position; unless of course he willed himself to see through the illusion.

During all this, Wells did at least manage to catch the goggles Sans had tossed, put them on and looked confused for a moment, until he caught sight of Old Feather Beak on the second floor. "FIRE THERE!" Wells roared, aiming his laser musket rifle up at that position and firing away. He got three shots off, hitting the daemon's shield, before a fireball fired through the air off to his side and hit him, exploding on impact and shattering his shield; he was thrown down to the floor with some burns on his sleeve, but otherwise seemed okay.

Samson tried to get up but was then impaled onto the floor by another sword appearing and stabbing down onto him; he vanished a few moments later. The other militia member fired his submachinegun up towards where Wells had been firing, until he and Fastanook were both telekinetically grabbed and thrown into each other, shattering both their shields and landing them both on the floor in a slightly tangled heap.

Though at least as before, Plague Knight and the Fanboys were still currently being ignored.
