CoLC crossover RP, discussion

Everything in the Plans doc has come to fruition so here we go. Part 2.

So, I'm going on a week-and-a-bit long holiday with my family. As such, Eve will remain in her current state until I get back, and any attempts at waking her will both fail and likely get your characters jumped on by some angry caretakers (I'm looking at you, Arcade). Have a lovely week or so, and I'll see you then.

Dammit. Looks like I didn't make a post to let him head back to the apartment safehouse.

Guess I'll need to handwave it without the gear he stockpiled per Day 16 instructions.^note Also the sidearms he had prior to the RP, but that's a different story.

Alright, with that little post I'm gonna get going for tonight. Now tomorrow's evening shift starts late enough that I'm actually aiming to be online for a bit before leaving for work; whether I'll have enough time to make a main thread post, I'm not sure, but it should be a while earlier than I was on today. As for after work, I don't expect to be back online until about five hours later than I was on today.

@Thegeniusyoshi: Posts are generally expected to be quite a bit longer in COLC than in the "play as your avatar" games. What is Fawful doing? What is he thinking about? Does he try to talk to anyone (probably in sheer confusion and anger as to why he was snatched away?) How does he react to the mishmash of characters from various universes? Or the librarian in the middle?

I did that in my first post. I'm currently setting up stage 1 Fawful's character arc. Is that ok? Sorry for asking.

Yes.

Yes but what I"m saying is. Read other players' posts. That should give you a benchmark as to what sort of post quality should be expected. They don't have to be novels, but they should be longer than a few sentences.

Also Fawful is being unusually understanding/peaceful/calm for an insane villain.

He isn't always insane, as shown in Partners in Time.

In Partners in Time he was biding his time to wait for the perfect moment to enact his plan. He was shown as Gollum-esque brooding about Mario and Luigi for one. I think his actions in Partners in Time show he's still insane, just in a downplayed manner.

Here he's been yanked from his home without warning, and put in a strange world full of unusual people where everything is made of candy. I think Fawful would have a more pronounced reaction than "mild curiosity".

Well I will say to try and slow down and allow more people (and the GM) to respond to your posts.

Ugh, so much to my annoyance, my internet was down before work, so I couldn't get on or even recap before leaving to work. And since I didn't get a break at work today, (the shift was too short for me to be allowed one) I didn't get much of a chance to recap then either. So I am finally here and caught up. I'm going to catch up on some other things and then see about working on a post.

@Thegeniusyoshi: As Thrall said, this is not a We Are Our Avatars game. While there's no rule that says your posts have to be of a certain length or anything, and I'm not going to make one, that doesn't change the fact that the expectations of posts here are different. If you keep making short posts like that with no real substance to them, you won't get in trouble, but the other players aren't going to want to interact with your character because they won't find it enjoyable.

Also, this is a forum, not an instant messenger; the thread isn't going anywhere any time soon, (unless something drastic happens to the website) so there's no need to make rapid, short posts one after another. Spare some time and consideration for people who aren't active at the same time you are to have a chance for their characters to potentially respond to yours; and you could kill two birds with one stone by using that extra time to think ahead about your next post so that it can be more substantial.

EDIT: Alright, just wanted to make that post so that Makaioh won't have to be waiting on me more than she probably already will be; now I'll be going for tonight. Tomorrow I don't expect to be on until around the same time as today; hopefully just a little sooner since I should be getting a break at work this time and will be able to recap on my phone there. But yeah, I don't expect to be getting online before work unfortunately.

Also unfortunately, due to the early shift on Sunday, I am not going to be online for long tomorrow night either. I still intend to make a post, since it's not as bad as Tuesday night was, but almost certainly only the one post, and then I'll be going.

To look outside from the top library floor would mean going up against the glass outer wall; not the inner area railing.

It is not obvious that Yoshika is undead just by looking at her.

I expect to be online for real in around three hours.

Alright, back home and fully recapped. I'm going to check on some things and then try to get this post done quickly, because after that I need to get going for tonight. Tomorrow of course I should be online much earlier since it's an early shift, though how much earlier depends on if I feel the need to nap after work. But for reference, tomorrow's shift ends seven hours earlier than today's shift did.

Speaking of work, before I forget about it, my work schedule for this coming week: After the early shift tomorrow, I have a fairly long early shift Monday, an evening shift of the same length Tuesday, and an early shift Wednesday that's a bit longer still. Then after that I'll have a somewhat long evening shift next Saturday, followed by an odd still-early-but-not-as-early moderate length shift next Sunday.

So in the broad strokes, my schedule for next week is the same as this last week was, (before I accepted the extra shift on Friday) just one shift slightly shorter, but countered and then some by two of the other shifts being a fair deal longer. Once again I might need to simply call Tuesday night a bust and not bother trying to post then. (I may aim to be awake earlier and get on before work in that case.)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and @Fantasy Liver: Generally I'm not okay with characters just handwaving getting information and especially items from just "off screen". There's too much room for abuse if you're allowed to just asspull any item and say you "got it earlier from somewhere".

Here now, fully recapped. I'm still a bit tired but not feeling too tired, and since I know you guys are probably waiting on me for a library post I figured I'd get on right after my bath and do that first; after I'm done with it I might lie down for a while. Right now I'm just going to check on some things, then I'll get started on the post; hopefully it won't take too long, though I am a bit distracted with laundry going right now.

@Fantasy Liver: Well in this case the toy train isn't a big deal; as long as it's just a toy train and no "oh no the Riddler planted a bomb in it" or anything like that going on. The only real problem with your post is how you completely skipped over normal character introduction and effectively just planted Riddler straight into a scene going on in the library with no prior setup or justification for that to occur.

@Thegeniusyoshi: Hm? You aren't in trouble. Fawful broke the rules of the library in-character, so Fawful is being punished, in-character.

@mrstack345: The library doesn't really have hallways. It sort of has hallways in the upper floors if you count the aisles between the book shelves, but otherwise each floor of the library is just one giant room. Especially the lobby where Ursula would've entered, which just has a bunch of furniture. Again, check the first post of discussion for the description and image links there.

Also, the library actually isn't very crowded right now either. Aside from the player characters there, the only non-player characters there are the Church of Literacy members, a few children, the librarian in three spots, the floran upstairs, and a few unimportant, miscellaneous background civilians.

Sorry for the short posts.

Short posts are...ok. But Firock made it clear (either in this thread or the sign-ups) that you still need substance to a short post. Preferably more than just a single line wherein the character does nothing but just look at an exciting thing happening, but that's just my opinion.

Actually Firock, from what I read Digger was waiting until Lewis landed to throw the axe, which should be well after Ciri tries to stab Lewis.

@Thegeniusyoshi: Why would you apologize for the short posts, and then immediately make a short post?

As I said, your posts should have substance to them. Don't just mention that Fawful is sitting there watching for the sake of mentioning it. Describe how he's sitting, if he's fidgeting, tell what he might be muttering under his breath or thinking out loud in protest of his imprisonment. And if you can, actually have him interact with someone, or at least do something that would warrant someone responding to him.

As it stands, the only thing your main thread post does right now is effectively say, "I still exist." And in this RP doing that for no reason just tends to annoy everyone else.

@Nman: Pro Trash's post doesn't say anything about Digger waiting, other than a couple seconds to wind up the throw.

Besides, if Digger waited on purpose until after Ciri had appeared right behind Lewis, then she'd be knowingly throwing her pick axe at a hostile while a friendly target is literally in the way.
