Can I be mature and still watch "Steven Universe"?

I never stated that porn is a part of a cartoon watching, it's just there and seems to be defended. According to Big K 1337 on the first page, there were worries over Rule 34 when a Steven Universe website was made, implying that it's that prominent. And I just said that I don't get why it has to come up in the discussion. I didn't intend to insult the creator of Steven Universe for drawing some herself, I had no idea. =/

Not all porn based on cartoons is the same or can be judged the same way. There's a world of difference between porn based on, say, Justice League, which vaguely equals live action porn based around actual adults, and porn based on Spongebob or Rugrats.

Also, I have been convinced into watching SU and not caring, thanks for that. Some great posts in this thread, especially this one:

Hi, I'm 28 years old, I've held a steady job for years, have been supporting my own lifestyle for over a decade, and I am financially responsible for the wellbeing of another human being. And I watch children's cartoons.

Hobbies aren't maturity. When you're young, it can feel like it. "Gotta do the grown-up things so people treat me like a grown-up!" But the truth is, a lot of mature adults still love many of the things they loved as kids. That's part of the reason adults like having kids in the first place: it gives them an excuse to revisit the pleasures of their youth by passing it along to the new youth.

Why can't we say that Rule 34 of an popular show is an mandatory, yet ignorable part of the fandom and go back to why are you insecure about watching this show? Because I'm not in the mood to talk about why exists.

[up][up]Porn isn't actually very prominent. Just easier to access due to this being the internet. Pretty much every fandom out there has porn but it's a small minority that produces it and consumes it.

The point of his comment was that the SU fanboys got into a fight with the bronies despite the fact that bronies were trying to help them in the first place....and for what because they thought bronies were fetish sex crazed addicts because the stereotype says so? This idea that fandoms just consist mostly of porn is a perpetuated stereotype.

Well, he isn't unsure anymore, so I'd say the thread already achieved its objective. So maybe we should celebrate, share a few drinks, and go call for a mod, not-god-because-seriously to put a nice lock on this before anybody says anything they might regret.

I feel really bad now, like I've offended all of you. I honestly didn't want to. I guess I'm just opinionated to the point of being obnoxious. I honestly did not intend to be.

Oh, for Christ's sake...

I have met actual cartoonists. They draw porn of their characters. They do not do it because they find it sexy - they do it because they find it funny.

Well personally if I drew my own cartoon characters, I wouldn't draw that side of it, and even if I did I'd never put it online. I know I sound like Helen Lovejoy here - "Think of the children!" but I wouldn't want to corrupt something I've made, that's all.

[up][up]Children handle accidentally finding out what sex and porn is better then you would think....trust me I would know as I found it out a whole lot earlier then expected. I am not traumatized nor do I have a aversion towards sex.

It's usually a minority of children that don't react well to seeing it. And said children usually have other problems in there lives influencing that...

So yeah I can't understand the Think of the children! mentality. Maybe it's just me and I got my observations wrong....

If we didn't treat it as taboo as we do in society, it likely wouldn't come off as a shocking surprise to children of how natural procreation works.

@TT 454 Sorry for the late reply, but after seeing how this conversation turned and how much the porn aspect of the fandom worries you (as well as other instances of fandom); I am afraid to say that you are not mature enough to watch it.

I get the idea of not liking some of the things the fanbase does with the show but the thing here is it is the fanbase. They don't have a hand in writing the stories, they are not the animators, and the only impact they have on the show itself is its viewership. Any headcanon or story ideas they have will (unless through some pure luck) not happen on the show you watch. So if you happen to come across an unofficial picture of the Gems having a futa orgy right in front of Steven of all people, as Uncle Grandpa would put it in his title episode of Steven Universe, "Don't worry bro, none of this is canon".

So, in short, someone mature will just enjoy the show for what it is and not worry about the things the fandom presents. In fact, that is the main problem with the Vocal Minority in the SU fandom IIRC. They are so worried about the toxicity certain parts of fandoms might do that they don't realize that they are the toxic ruining the show.

So... I'm not mature enough to watch it. Oh, OK...

The porn aspect of fandoms doesn't necessarily worry me by the way, it would never spoil my enjoyment of the show. I just don't agree with it or understand it. Thanks for the reply though, and I apologise for taking what you said out of context.

[up]Hmmm....yeah I say our job is done here. You seem to of just conveyed yourself bad in regards to this topic.

I would just ask to spare your judgement on the people who do enjoy that stuff. Unlike popular belief I can guarantee you that for the most part the people who enjoy Rule 34 and Fetish Fuel are pretty normal people. It's usually the minority of said sub-group that has the issues and even with that said there interest in the porn or fetishes surrounding it likely has no correlation to causing them to become twisted.

Also, be very careful with stereotypes....

[up] As an guy who junior mods an adult manga site, I've seen more than enough evidence that Rule 34 is well received. I'd say that the OP is in the 3% that is actually allergic to NSFW fanart.

Yeah, guess I'm just in a minority. If I had known, I wouldn't have been so outspoken about my dislike of it. :P

(By the way, my dislike of it started when I came across a horrifying image of Bart and Lisa doing... well you know, online, when I was a kid. Been against R34 ever since.)

[up]Those pics are usually for either shock value or to feed a certain fetish. Some people enjoy them...I don't really but it's not my place to tell them what to like as that would be quite unfair as individuals all have certain likes. As long as they don't hurt anyone then I could care less...

I reacted differently then you when I found fetish art by accident at a very young age. I wasn't surprised as I had figured out what sex was on my own. I was more curious then horrified. I still to this day wonder how the hell fetishes work in the human brain....
