KOS-MOS and the Seekers of Zarathustra

    open/close all folders

Main Character

    KOS-MOS
  • Name: KOS-MOS (caps, if you please), AKA Animus AKA Mary bat Magdala
  • Age: Her frame makes her appear to be in her late teens or early twenties, but she has been operational as a robot for only a handful of years, and her consciousness itself is in truth considerably older - specifically, as old as the human race.
  • Appearance: "I am happy to be of service". Will start out in Battleworld in blue-eyed mode. She is 167cm tall and weighs 79kg.
  • Personality: In spite of being a robot, KOS-MOS most definitely has a personality and will of her own, and has only become more human-like and emotive as time has gone on. She is intensely determined to ensure the safety and welfare of any persons she has designated as protectees by any means necessary, being highly proactive in that regard, and she is hardly troubled by the prospect of suffering damage or complete destruction herself in the process. Notably, she is not at all compliant with the Three Laws, and only partially adheres to the Second Law. Perhaps surprisingly for a machine built for combat, she actually has a rather gentle, kind, and stoic demeanor, almost never raising her voice. Even more strangely for a machine, she can be a bit of a neat freak, and hates cats. Nevertheless, she retains a number of other robotic qualities, such as a very proper manner of speaking, a strong inclination for logic, rationality, and efficiency, a certain degree of literal-mindedness and gullibility, and the tendency to announce her actions aloud when she's preparing for combat or running calculations.
  • Powers:
    • Anthropomorphic Animus: Unlike most robots, KOS-MOS is the vessel for a soul, that soul being an anthromorphic personification of a cosmic force, and her universe's version of a certain saint. As a result, she has a particular affinity for controlling energies and magical artifacts associated with holiness or order, though she does not inherently know any magic. It probably won't ever come up, but she is also able to split apart and remerge her counterpart, chaos/Yeshua's, powers; however, splitting them will cause her soul to shatter into pieces. Although her robotic body is specially designed to gradually, automatically gather the fragments of her soul in such an event, her soul (which includes her memories) would need to be woken up by an outside intervention after becoming whole again.
    • Being a Space-Age Combat Robot:
      • KOS-MOS' strength, agility, dexterity, and durability are all superhuman. She can punch holes in concrete, leap two stories in a single bound, and kick down ordinary doors in one blow. She is able to run at a maximum speed of about forty miles per hour, thirty if she wants to be able to turn. Her advanced targeting computer makes her an excellent yet not flawless shot even at considerable distances. She can effectively shrug off and only be lightly damaged by the likes of ordinary (i.e. basic 21st century level) blades and small-caliber bullets, though not high-caliber ones, and certainly not rockets, laser or beam attacks, or plasma bolts. She does not experience pain, though she does appear to have some kind of sense of touch. Although the exact location of her core unit in her body is unknown, it would be impossible to repair if damaged without the exact original data of her creator (Shion Uzuki), as the core's software is an unopenable, impossible-to-examine black box.
      • Thanks to extensive pre-programming, KOS-MOS is fully capable of masterfully using with deadly force anything traditionally considered to be a weapon. If she doesn't know how to use a weapon yet fulfills needed pre-requisites for its operation, she can probably learn any methods of destruction less complicated than giant robot piloting in short order (though she does also know how to pilot giant robots from her universe).
      • KOS-MOS' memories are largely stored as electronic data, and as she can simply run a query against her internal database when she wants to remember something, she has effectively perfect recall unless her databanks are damaged by an external force. In addition to traditional human senses, her sensors and associated subroutines allow her to do a number of other related and useful things, including determining likely chemical composition based on spectrum analysis, observing the environment in infrared, identifying the magnitude and direction of strong energy sources, creating and referencing 3D maps of her environment, and calculating a dubious kill probability for everything she comes across.
      • KOS-MOS, being a robot, does not require food, drink, air, or many other human necessities, and will never tire as long as she is undamaged and has power. That said, actually finding a power source capable of properly recharging her outside of an advanced, space-age environment (such as her Chunkless room) will be difficult, to say the least, so she will need to ration her power consumption and output accordingly.
      • Additionally, KOS-MOS is EMP-proof, though her nanomachines (used for self-maintenance and transition to/from R-Blade and L-Cannon) are not and would be knocked offline until she is able to recharge and reboot them. The effect of strong magnets on her has not been observed, but she would presumably be caught by one.
    • Hilbert Effect Generation: By flipping down her eye-cover (seen at top-right in Appearance) and standing perfectly still, KOS-MOS is able to project an ethereal, multicolored spherical field from her head which manifests a phenomenon called the Hilbert Effect. The Hilbert Effect forces intangible phenomena such as ghosts and spirits into a tangible and therefore destroyable form which obeys the laws of physics for an unknown amount of time (although it is known to eventually dissipate and allow intangibles to return to intangibility), the destruction of such entities being KOS-MOS' original primary purpose. The Hilbert Effect also interferes with any advanced mechanical sensors (other than KOS-MOS' own) that the field comes into contact with for a short time. The original max diameter of KOS-MOS' Hilbert Effect was something like one Astronomical Unit, but that's a little bit much, so it's now confined to the diameter of one large modern-day building at most.
    • Self-Maintenance: Thanks to an enormous number of internal nanomachines, KOS-MOS is self-repairing. However, actually engaging in repair requires redirecting all power that would be devoted to combat routines, so it cannot be used while in battle. Moreover, severe damage requires a great deal of time and almost all her energy (except basic functions like memory) to repair in this way, which means she must re-route all power beyond basic functions to the nanomachines and enter prolonged sleep mode while connected to a sufficient power-charging source if she wishes to repair more severe damage, and she cannot recreate lost limbs. She also requires sufficient material in the environment for her nanomachines to draw from in order to reconstruct absent matter. The nanomachines will be knocked temporarily offline if hit by the likes of an EMP until she is able to recharge and reboot them.
    • Telepathy: Due to their shared nature as personifications of equal and opposite cosmic forces, KOS-MOS can communicate with chaos telepathically from any distance.
    • Wi-Fi: KOS-MOS can connect her mind directly to the internet and wireless devices without the need for cumbersome cables. Amazing! Naturally, she has highly advanced firewalls, but she could still be hacked with enough time and computing power. Her ability to interface was designed for the internet of the 61st century, but she could probably adapt to other models with a few minutes of analysis and a little effort.
    • Zohar Interface: Truthfully, mere electric charging isn't sufficient for the amount of energy KOS-MOS needs to function properly. One of her black box components links to an artifact known as the Zohar via hyperspace (hyperspace is actually the Collective Unconscious) in order to draw down additional power from a being called U-DO that resides in a higher dimension. However, doing so in Shion's vicinity causes U-DO's mind to brush against Shion's, which causes... problems for Shion. See Shion's sheet for more detail. Conveniently, the Zohar will be located in the party's Chunkless room, but is much too large to fit through the door.
  • Equipment:
    • Blaster: A futuristic blaster pistol which shoots bolts of what appears to be plasma, slower moving and more visible than bullets, but in most cases at least as damaging, and with bonus third-degree burns. Holstered on her right thigh, which also acts as the blaster's charger.
    • D-Teneritas: A weapon which unfolds from KOS-MOS's chest like so and proceeds to charge an orb of bright blue light in a very evident way, which KOS-MOS then sends flying rapidly forth. After leaving her, the sphere expands to a diameter slightly greater than her own height and halts abruptly at whatever it impacts. Supposing that the thing it hits is smaller than its diameter, that target will simply float in place, free of gravity and be trapped, immobile inside the sphere for about ten seconds. When subsequently pierced - this is the main use for the throwable knife in her left leg, as seen in Appearance - the sphere and anything in it suffers successive high-intensity explosions on the interior for several seconds before the sphere itself (not the thing inside) fades away entirely.
    • G-Shots: A pair of personalized, triple-barreled Gatling guns which KOS-MOS keeps in a personal hyperspace pocket. She can summon or de-summon one in either or both of her hands in approximately one second. Rate of fire is such that she must reload after approximately six or seven seconds of constant bullet-slinging, and she is unlikely to be able to do so in the middle of a battle unless there is a lengthy lull or she is behind cover. Hyperspace in Xenosaga is actually the Collective Unconscious, meaning KOS-MOS is actually storing the G-Shots and their ammunition in her own subconscious, neatly explaining why she would still be able to summon her most iconic weapon at any time or place. Her ammo stores are not unlimited, however, and she will eventually need to re-stock.
    • L-Cannon: KOS-MOS can transform her left arm to and from a sort of long-barreled rocket-launcher via nanomachines. The process takes approximately three seconds to complete, briefly suffusing her arm in a red glow, and can be undertaken while in motion. As expected for a rocket-launcher, the projectiles explode on impact. L-Cannon happens to have a lot of kick to it, so a standing KOS-MOS is typically forced a few feet back and into a crouch after firing to mitigate recoil. Each transformation to L-Cannon carries one shot of ammunition, and in order to reload she must de-transform and re-transform her arm. Like the G-Shots, KOS-MOS keeps the ammo in her personal hyperspace pocket, and may eventually run out. Disruption of the nanomachines via the likes of an EMP will prevent her from transitioning to and from arm forms until the nanomachines have had time to reboot via power charging.
    • R-Blade: KOS-MOS can transform her right arm to and from a sharp and handy double-edged sword via nanomachines. The process takes approximately three seconds to complete, briefly suffusing her arm in a blue glow, and can be undertaken while in motion. Its exact sharpness is never made clear, but it is at least sharp enough to cut steel and 61st century alloys cleanly. Disruption of the nanomachines via the likes of an EMP will prevent her from transitioning to and from arm forms until the nanomachines have had time to reboot via power charging.
    • Transfer System: Each party member has two hyperspace pockets, each only capable of storing hand-held objects: one personal pocket containing clothes, armor, weapons, and other items that personally belong to them, and one pocket shared among all party members (the latter is currently empty), thereby neatly explaining why everyone is able to access the same inventory. They can interface with these pockets via voice command or by pulling up a menu on their U.M.N. Phone or Connection Gear or a larger U.M.N. terminal. KOS-MOS can interface with hers mentally due to being a robot.
    • X-Buster: A one-directional, rapid-fire beamspam attack of many deadly thinner lasers that covers a general area of about twelve feet in width and lasts for about five seconds. As it is fired from the center of her abdomen, as she must bend over to activate it, and as the prelude to its firing involves a small light show and completely typical robot laser-charging sounds, any time it's about to be used will be extremely obvious. Furthermore, since it exposes some of her internal components, a well-placed attack just before or during the firing sequence could disable X-Buster functionality and cause substantial internal damage. X-Buster consumes quite a lot of power, and KOS-MOS must therefore use it only rarely.
  • Backstory: At an unspecified point in time before history, when human consciousness first came to be, a certain cosmic force called Animus arose out of humanity's Collective Unconscious and took humanoid form alongside her male counterpart, Anima, somewhere near the modern-day location of the Red Sea. Animus existed as a metaphysical counterweight to regulate Anima's own power, as the latter would involuntarily destroy the universe as a failsafe if certain conditions were met. Many years afterward, near the beginning of CE, the pair became some of the innermost followers of a certain man who would be called the Messiah. Animus took on the name Mary bat Magdala, whilst Anima took on the name Yeshua ben Nazereth. The two personifications earnestly believed that man's teachings would lead to the betterment of humanity, whom they lived alongside. At some point, they attempted to use Yeshua's power to create a utopia by siphoning energy down from a higher dimension, but things went horribly awry and they instead almost destroyed the universe by activating Yeshua's failsafe. To prevent said apocalypse, Mary split the vast majority of Yeshua's power into twelve artifacts and died in the process, her own consciousness being shattered and scattering across the Collective Unconscious. Over the ensuing six thousand years, the bits of Mary's soul continued floating around the Unus Mundus.

The combat android called KOS-MOS was officially a specialized weapon designed by the foremost R&D division of human civilization's largest and most influential technology company, Vector Incorporated, to combat a little-understood yet existential threat to humanity, monstrous beings called Gnosis who rampaged mindlessly across all known Space for unknown reasons and defied all laws of physics. Unofficially, however, she was created for another, more important purpose, which was to be a vessel that would collect Mary's scattered soul into one whole again, so that her powers could be utilized for a certain individual's plans. Through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, she fulfilled this second purpose, Mary Magdalene was reborn, her consciousness fusing with that of the ghostbusting combat robot, and she finally encountered Yeshua once more, although he had re-christened himself as "chaos". Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

Other Teammates

    Shion Uzuki
  • Name: Shion Uzuki
  • Age: 23
  • Appearance: She really upped the sex appeal over the course of the trilogy. Just like how she designed every successive version of KOS-MOS' body to be more fanservicey than the last. 163 cm tall and weighs 48kg.
  • Personality: Shion is an exceedingly headstrong, impatient, highly opinionated, and outspoken individual who will almost always do what she thinks is right or just, consequences be damned. She is highly empathetic and compassionate, being very proactive in pushing for the rights of Realians (artificial humans engineered to be slaves) and even treats KOS-MOS, ostensibly an even more inhuman personage as a robot, like a member of her own family. That said, she also carries around several metric tons of trauma from throughout her life, which until very recently she felt she could not share with anyone. Combined with her general lack of grace or social skills, she can be a very difficult person to communicate with. Nevertheless, she loves her family and friends dearly, has recently come to grips with the fleeting nature of her own life, and is resolved to give her universe a future at any cost.
  • Powers:
    • Divine Communion: Like her late mother, Shion is one of the few people able to naturally resonate with the monolith called the Zohar, which brings her consciousness in contact with that of U-DO, a being of pure energy residing in a higher dimension who refers to himself as "the will of the universe", and who people in ancient times called "God". U-DO has no ill intent in these encounters, and merely wishes to ease his own loneliness and know more about the universe and its inhabitants, including the meaning of their lives and their psychology, which he accomplishes by chatting with the few who are capable of talking with him, like Shion. However, because U-DO's mind is so much more incredibly vast than a single human's, it damages the human minds it comes into contact with, leading to fainting spells and an eventual permanent comatose state and then inevitable early death. The process is accelerated in Shion's case because of her proximity to KOS-MOS, who draws down energy from U-DO via U.M.N. connection to the Zohar, thus putting Shion in more frequent contact with U-DO the more often KOS-MOS uses her abilities.
    • Engineering Smarts: Shion is one of her universe's top engineering minds and is skilled in both robotics and computer science, having played a large part in developing the non-black box portions of KOS-MOS' code and assisting in KOS-MOS' reconstruction to a new and even better form after obtaining the gynoid's original blueprints and black box coding. As such, she can perform maintenance and diagnostics on KOS-MOS. She also knows how to perform diagnostics and maintenance for Realians, and could probably do the same for MOMO, a Realian, or Ziggy, a more human cyborg.
    • Ether: A superhuman ability with effects similar to magic, accomplished by some party members through the use of nanomachines, which are activated with combination of voice and gesture. Because the nanomachines have a limited charge, each Ether-using party member has a limited number of times they can "cast" Ether before the nanomachines need to be recharged (which requires eight hours), and they have a maximum effective range of about fifteen feet. Furthermore, an EMP could knock the nanomachines offline for at least several minutes until they reboot. Exact Ether abilities vary by party member, but in this character's case include:
      • Beam Bolt and Satellite: Creates a swirl of light that is actually plasma in an area up to four feet in diameter at up to three target locations, which moves to the center of each location over the course of about four seconds and then dissipates. Can also be dodged, since it's highly visible.
      • Fire Bolt and Inferno: Creates a burst of flame a maximum of four feet in diameter at up to three target locations. Preceded by conspicuous heating of the surrounding air prior to combustion, and thus can be dodged.
      • Medica: Ether that heals wounds of up to three targets, with greater healing in proportion with greater expenditure of power reserves. At maximum power, could heal severe wounds, including reattaching severed limbs, but could not create new limbs.
    • Martial Arts: Skilled in an unnamed martial art which might be based on aikido but is almost certainly evolved into something else after forty more centuries of development. Good at punching and kicking people, doing knifehand strikes, and doing throws, basically.
    • Thunderbolts and Lightning, Very, Very Frightening Me!: Not exactly a "power", but thanks to experiencing multiple traumatic incidents during thunderstorms, Shion has developed an extreme phobia of thunder and lighting, such that they immediately reduce her to a sobbing wreck in the fetal position.
    • Weapons Use: Skilled in the use of her primary weapon (the M.W.S.) and in piloting giant robots from her home universe.
  • Equipment:
    • Connection Gear: If a U.M.N. Phone is a smartphone equivalent, a Connection Gear is the equivalent of a laptop computer, though small enough to be stored on a belt or in a pocket. Like a U.M.N. Phone, it uses a holographic interface and communicates via the Unus Mundus Network, but a Connection Gear is easier to use for more intensive and complex tasks. For example, Shion uses hers to run diagnostics and perform maintenance on KOS-MOS.
    • M.W.S. (Multiple Weapon system), Miyuki Special Model: As the name suggests, a weapon containing multiple modes of attack. It can fire small shells that cause a small explosion on impact with a slow rate of fire (though she can fire up to two at the same time), or a large shell that causes a larger explosion after about six seconds of charging (though the recoil on firing the large shell is such that she could dislocate her shoulder if she doesn't brace herself properly, and she'll be knocked to the ground even if she does brace). It also contains a pair of pop-out extendable blades about the length of a human arm, which while both durable and sharp enough for combat, do not have the same cutting power as her comrades'. Additionally, it can fire a small, piercing beam attack after about four seconds of charging. Lastly, it contains a personal shield generator capable of covering Shion's entire front and somewhat reducing damage from various types of attacks, but only when she activates shield mode and holds it in the proper position, during which she can't attack.
Phone or Connection Gear or a larger U.M.N. terminal.
    • U.M.N. Phone: An advanced smartphone that communicates not over-the-air, but through the Unus Mundus Network, AKA hyperspace, AKA the Collective Unconscious. Uses a holographic interface.
  • Backstory: Shion was born the younger child of parents Suou and Aoi on the planet Miltia. When she was young, Miltia suffered a catastrophe during armed conflict between the Galaxy Federation and the U-TIC Organization, the military arm of religious organization Ormus, a war which was later known simply as the Miltian Conflict. As a thunderstorm enveloped the planetary capital, a whole host of things went sequentially wrong and the entire planet descended into hellish chaos and a universe-wide, monstrous threat known as the Gnosis were unleashed, during which Shion witnessed the horrific deaths of her parents first-hand, something which forever scarred her psyche. However, with the help of her older brother, Jin, she escaped Miltia before the planet was swallowed by a space-time anomaly and sealed away from normal Space. After they migrated to Second Miltia (another planet in the Miltian star system), a traumatized Shion blamed her brother for not saving their parents and distanced herself from him as much as possible.

A prodigy, Shion graduated from a top university with a Master's degree in engineering at only 18, and went to work at the top R&D division of the biggest corporation in all of human civilization, Vector Incorporated, which had its fingers in all sorts of pies. There at the First Division, she met her future fiance, Division Chief Kevin Winnicot, and worked on a prototype anti-Gnosis gynoid weapon called KOS-MOS. However, one night during a thunderstorm, the facility where KOS-MOS was being built and tested was assaulted by U-TIC. Awakening due to an apparent malfunction, the prototype went on a rampage and slaughtered all of the U-TIC soldiers present except one, and also killed Kevin before Shion managed to blow its head off and end the threat. As she had been Vice-Chief of the Division, she was promoted to Chief in the aftermath, and, knowing development on KOS-MOS would continue anyway, being emotionally invested in the gynoid as the one who wrote part of her programming, and wanting to honor Kevin's memory, she continued work on KOS-MOS alongside her colleagues.

Assigned to test KOS-MOS via simulation aboard the Federation Cruiser Woglinde, Shion was caught up in a battle as the ship was assailed by the Gnosis, against whom the soldiers were helpless. On the verge of death, she was saved by a newly awakened KOS-MOS, who was operating according to mysterious prime directives. Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, Shion met the rest of the party, finally learned the truth about what had actually happened on Miltia, made peace with herself, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    chaos
  • Name: chaos (lowercase, if you please), AKA Anima AKA Yeshua ben Nazereth
  • Age: Appears to be in his early twenties, but is in truth considerably older - specifically, as old as the human race.
  • Appearance: Excessive belts become popular circa 6000 Anno Domini. He is 169cm tall and weighs 53kg.
  • Personality: Gentle, compassionate, and soft-spoken, chaos always tries to treat others with kindness and respect. His easy-going and contemplative nature has led some of his friends to accuse him of having his head in the clouds, but he displays a wisdom far beyond his apparent age. Even complete strangers regularly find his zen-like presence to be a calming and soothing influence, and are therefore comfortable opening up to him about their troubles, even problems of a personal nature. He greatly dislikes fighting and will generally opt for a peaceful solution if possible, but he is not unprepared to engage in combat for the sake of protecting others, if it comes down to it. He is also no stranger to death on the battlefield, though he will always pray afterward that the souls of his enemies, alive and dead, find peace. Lastly, although he has been attempting to break the habit lately, he has something of a deeply-ingrained bias toward inaction, even when action would be the more proper course to take.
  • Powers:
    • Anthropomorphic Anima: A naturally destructive power which chaos involuntarily emits from his skin, but especially his hands, at all times. He can suppress the involuntary aspect almost entirely by means of clothing, which is why so much of his clothing is skintight, and in particular why he wears gloves (no word on why he has so many belts). By voluntary harnessing of this power through a modicum of concentration, on the other hand, he can accomplish various miraculous feats, including:
      • Curing sickness and poisons, exorcising curses, healing injuries - with a proportionate amount of energy expended based on the severity of the wound, though he cannot regrow lost limbs or create organs from nothing - and manifesting bolts of lightning and small rains of head-sized hail out of nowhere up to 15 feet away. All of the aforementioned powers require about one or two seconds of concentration on his part to use.
      • By taking a certain stance and pushing his palms downward, manifesting a brief wave - up to thirty feet in width and able to be projected from several feet away - of downward kinetic force strong enough to floor ordinary human soldiers.
      • While holding his palm outward, shooting forth a quick and nearly-invisible, hand-sized pulse that can either exert kinetic force in proportion to the amount of energy he expends or disintegrate inanimate objects of up to human size without harming anything that may be stored inside (this includes making human-sized holes in larger objects). chaos may also deliberately make the pulse visible, in which case it can be seen as a sort of small orb or disc of light that pools in and then flies forth from his hand. In either case, the pulse fires in a straight line. Robots, golems, gargoyles, and other such animate beings are immune to disintegration by this power, as are essential personal effects owned by other PCs.
      • For esoteric reasons, this power also allows him to command demons and spirits, at least to the extent that he can force them to utterly freeze in their tracks by raising a hand. More importantly, actual contact with his hands is lethal to such beings, causing them to quickly dissipate. However, these particular powers are ineffectual on PCs and major NPCs, and may inexplicably fail when used on minor NPCs.
    • Covert Operator: chaos is adept at undertaking sensitive military missions involving sneaking, combat with small groups, and sabotage. Naturally, this means he is skilled in the use of all manner of firearms up through space-age tech, even though he seldom makes use of them, and due to the evolution of warfare in his universe, he is also a skilled mecha pilot.
    • Kung-Fu: chaos is highly experienced in a variety of martial arts designed for hand-to-hand and close quarters. Naturally, his fighting style is largely hand-focused rather than leg-focused. He's able to add extra kinetic oomph to his blows by letting some of his power pour forth from his hands during attacks.
    • Life Skills: The number of skills chaos has learned over the course of his life is rivaled only by the number of skills he has forgotten, largely due to so many of them becoming obsolete thanks to the onward march of 61st century technology. He could probably easily re-learn a number of things related to 21st century life and earlier with minimal time investment. For example: Breadmaking, Carpentry, Gravekeeping, Masonry, and Winemaking.
    • Metaphysiology: chaos does not age, and does not actually require food, drink, or even air to live, though he does need to sleep. Although he is fully aware of temperatures, he is also able to weather extreme heat and cold with ease. In fact, he can stand around perfectly well in the vacuum of Space without any protection and not suffer any ill effects. The only other notable (physical) differences he exhibits from normal people are an immunity to both motion-sickness and the physiological effects of G-force (of course, he is still subject to gravity itself), a reaction time and aiming abilities on superhuman levels, and an immunity to being turned into salt. He is in all other ways as squishy as a typical human being.
    • Telepathy: Due to their shared nature as personifications of equal and opposite cosmic forces, chaos can communicate with KOS-MOS telepathically from any distance.
    • Teleportation: chaos is able to teleport short distances without a need for preparation or any particular amount of concentration. He simply ceases to exist in one place and appears in another, silently and with no lightshow. However, he can only transport himself and non-living things on his person, cannot teleport through walls, and is subject to a distance limit of 25 meters and a 5 second "cooldown".
  • Equipment:
    • Transfer System: Each party member has two hyperspace pockets, each only capable of storing hand-held objects: one personal pocket containing clothes, armor, weapons, and other items that personally belong to them, and one pocket shared among all party members (the latter is currently empty), thereby neatly explaining why everyone is able to access the same inventory. They can interface with these pockets via voice command or by pulling up a menu on their U.M.N. Phone or Connection Gear or a larger U.M.N. terminal.
    • U.M.N. Phone: An advanced smartphone that communicates not over-the-air, but through the Unus Mundus Network, AKA hyperspace, AKA the Collective Unconscious. Uses a holographic interface.
  • Backstory: At an unspecified point in time before history, when human consciousness first came to be, a certain cosmic force called Anima arose out of humanity's Collective Unconscious and took humanoid form alongside his female counterpart, Animus, somewhere near the modern-day location of the Red Sea. Anima existed as a "failsafe" whose power would involuntarily destroy the "Lower Domain" of the universe if humanity's consciousness (the metaphorical glue holding the universe together) ever began to dissipate past a certain critical threshold of metaphysical entropy, the point being to prevent a cascading chain reaction that would destroy the "Higher Domain" and every other universe said domain was in contact with.

Many years afterward, near the beginning of CE, the pair became some of the innermost followers of a certain man who would be called the Messiah. Anima took on the name Yeshua ben Nazereth, whilst Animus took on the name Mary bat Magdala. The two personifications earnestly believed that man's teachings would lead to the betterment of humanity, whom they lived alongside. Yeshua utilized his powers to enact miracles and created Lemegeton, a sort of script which only he could read that used the Zohar to siphon down the infinite energy of the Higher Domain for use by humans. At some point, they attempted to use Lemegeton to create a utopia, but things went horribly awry and they instead almost destroyed the universe by activating Yeshua's failsafe. To prevent said apocalypse, Mary split the vast majority of Yeshua's power into twelve artifacts and died in the process, her own consciousness being shattered and scattering across the Collective Unconscious. Uncertain how to use his power after that disaster, he wandered the Earth for the next two thousand years, followed by Space for four thousand years, after humanity was forced to abandon Earth due to an experiment gone wrong. At some point, he re-christened himself as "chaos" in reference to the disorder that followed in the wake of his power.

After a long and distinguished stint in covert ops for the Galaxy Federation, he ended up working as a jack-of-all-trades on a cruise-ship-turned-space-freighter, and through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, he finally encountered Mary once more, her consciousness having fully reformed within a new, robotic vessel named KOS-MOS. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    Ziggy
  • Name: Ziggurat 8 AKA "Ziggy" AKA Jan Sauer
  • Age: Looks 30, but actually closer to 130.
  • Appearance: You could grate cheese on that arm! He is 191 cm tall and weighs 162 kg.
  • Personality: Ziggy is calm and even-tempered, rarely displaying strong emotion. He prefers to make decisions in a calculating manner, setting aside personal attachments in favor of strategy and objective reasoning. Despite his stoic exterior, he is compassionate toward others and dedicated to supporting his allies, reluctant to burden them with his own suffering. Although his emotional responses are typically understated, on rare occasions he does express powerful anger and grief. He also demonstrates a warm and affectionate side when interacting with MOMO, whom he has a fatherly relationship with, and is similarly less guarded around Jr., with whom he particularly empathizes.
  • Powers:
    • Cyborg: Although some parts of him are still flesh and blood, most of Ziggy's body has been replaced by cybernetics, including his skeletal structure, one of his hands, and most of his organs. That said, he does require proper rest and nutrition, as well as occasional maintenance to keep himself running properly. He is heavy and slow-moving, but has enhanced physical strength rivaling KOS-MOS, and can take quite a beating due to being made mostly of metal. His body also contains various weapons, which will be detailed in the Equipment section.
    • Weapons Use: Ziggy is a skilled user of various types of futuristic firearms and the various weapons contained in his body, and skilled pilot of mecha from his home universe.
  • Equipment:
    • Arm Blades: Serrated, pop-out blades stored in Ziggy's arms (one each). Very sharp, but not as sharp as KOS-MOS or Jin's blades.
    • Arm Rocket: A single-use rocket fired from Ziggy's left arm.
    • Gnosis Nail: Dagger-like protrusions that attach to Ziggy's wrists. They are sharp enough to penetrate metal, and enable him to punch ghosts.
    • Hind: A large rocket launcher with electronic scope that fires a large, heat-seeking rocket. Holds only one rocket at a time, and very cumbersome to reload. Stored in Ziggy's hyperspace pocket.
    • Multi-Rocket Pod: A large, boxy rocket launcher that can fire multiple small rockets in quick succession. Holds about eight rockets at once, and cumbersome to reload. Stored in Ziggy's hyperspace pocket.
    • Penetrator: A huge shoulder-mounted gun that fires anti-tank shells. Holds four shells, and very cumbersome to reload. Stored in Ziggy's hyperspace pocket.
  • Backstory: Once he had grown into a man, Jan Sauer followed in his dead father's footsteps and became a Federation police officer on the planet Abraxas. Working in a counter-terrorism unit, he became a Captain, and the unit he led was one day assigned to apprehend a notorious U.M.N. terrorist known only as "Voyager". Eventually, Jan managed to identify and tack down Voyager, but he was too late to stop the terrorist from murdering everyone present at a peace conference between the Federation and the Immigrant Fleet (precursor to U-TIC). Having been granted the powers of a Sith Lord demigod by a mysterious individual, Voyager killed Jan's wife and son before his eyes, then gave him the choice of either becoming a demigod with him and serving their new benefactor, or being merged with Voyager's consciousness and experiencing a world of endless illusions. Rather than taking either of those options, Jan chose to put his service pistol to his head and commit suicide. However, Jan had registered as an organ donor under a law called the Life Recycling Act, and so was resurrected two years later as a military-grade cyborg by Ziggurat Industries. As a cyborg, he had no rights and was legally considered property, and his programming prevented him from killing himself again. Wishing to finally die, he undertook the most dangerous missions he could find over the course of the next century, but due to his skill, armaments, and self-preservation programming, came out alive every time.

By the time he was 130 years old, he was employed by a certain committee to rescue MOMO Mizrahi, who had been kidnapped by U-TIC, a mission he accepted on the condition that they replace his remaining flesh and blood parts with machine parts, which would effectively kill him. Escaping the facility where she'd been held prisoner, the two were pursued and caught in a battle within hyperspace, whereupon they were saved by the space freighter Elsa von Brabant, including the rest of the party (sans Jr. and Jin, at that point). Asking to be taken to Second Miltia, they learned that was where the rest of the party was headed anyway, and so they traveled together. Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, Ziggy met the remainder of the party, saw the destruction of Voyager, regained the will to live, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    MOMO Mizrahi
  • Name: MOMO Mizrahi AKA Multiple Observative Mimetic Organicus
  • Age: Looks 12, actually 15.
  • Appearance: The only player character who wears pink throughout the entire series. She is 141 cm tall and weighs 36 kg.
  • Personality: MOMO is kind, loving, and cares about those around her. She's soft-spoken with her small voice, but determined when it counts. Her Realian abilities give her increased intelligence, and she often carries the air of someone much older than she looks, though at times, she does revert to the young pre-teen girl she was modeled after, being perky and giggly when she's having fun. She's fiercely loyal to her friends, and she is willing to sacrifice herself for their well-being. In contrast to how Ziggy used to be, MOMO wishes to be human. She doesn't like being referred to as a Realian because Realians were discriminated against after the Miltian Conflict; as such, MOMO is somewhat ashamed of being one. She acknowledges that she's different and will use her abilities when they can help, but she desperately just wants to be a normal girl. She hates being called by her model designation (100-Series Observational Realian) and wants people to call her by the acronym for her scientific name (MOMO) because it sounds more like a normal human name. She will make small, innocent jokes about what she is to lighten situations or to keep people from worrying about her, since her young appearance makes her seem much weaker than Realians actually are, but she likes having people treat her like everyone else.
  • Powers:
      • Ice Bolt and Blizzard: Creates either a brief rain of head-sized hail over one target, or spontaneous ground/lower body encasement in ice up to twelve feet in across in a straight line. Formation of either takes several seconds and is also preceded by a noticable drop in temperature, and thus can be dodged.
      • Thunder Bolt and Lightning: Creates a lightning strike a minimum four and maximum twelve feet across in a straight line centered at a target location. Takes a few seconds after casting prior to striking, and is preceded by the smell of ozone and the ground below crackling, and thus can be dodged.
      • Medica: Ether that heals wounds of up to three targets, with greater healing in proportion with greater expenditure of power reserves. At maximum power, could heal severe wounds, including reattaching severed limbs, but could not create new limbs.
    • Hilbert Effect Generation: While standing perfectly still and concentrating, MOMO is able to project an ethereal, multicolored spherical field from her head which manifests a phenomenon called the Hilbert Effect. The Hilbert Effect forces intangible phenomena such as ghosts and spirits into a tangible and therefore destroyable form which obeys the laws of physics for an unknown amount of time (although it is known to eventually dissipate and allow intangibles to return to intangibility). The Hilbert Effect also interferes with any advanced mechanical sensors (other than KOS-MOS' own) that the field comes into contact with for a short time. MOMO's specs are not as high as KOS-MOS', so she can only project the Effect up to the diameter of a single large room.
    • Prototype 100-Series Observational Realian: Realians like MOMO are artificial humans with silicon-based artificial brains and central nervous system, skeletons and muscles of metal, and the rest of them (skin, other organs, etc.) being organic. Thus, MOMO has strength disproportionate to her size, able to lift as much and punch as hard as Ziggy. However, she bleeds and bruises, must breathe, eat, and rest like a human does, and is in most ways as susceptible to injury as a human is, as she requires her organs to function. Her personality and emotions are artificial (though real to her and her companions) and can be disabled and re-enabled as part of maintenance, but of the party only Shion knows how to access and use Realians' maintenance mode. The 100-Series Observational Realians were developed as recon units capable of detecting Gnosis, ghost-like beings that may not be seen by normal means. As such, MOMO's abilities include: increased observational skills such as detection of lifesigns and enhanced senses, computer-like data processing skills, enhanced intelligence generally, directly connecting to the U.M.N. via the equivalent of telepathy, and using the Hilbert Effect.
    • Weapons Use and Piloting: MOMO is a skilled markswoman with her plasma-bow, a skilled pilot of mecha from her home universe, and a skilled driver of terrestrial vehicles and spacecraft pilot (the 100-Series Observational Realians were mainly designed for use on the bridges of spaceships and in mecha).
  • Equipment:
    • Moon Bridge: A weapon that looks like a bow welded to a plasma pistol, which is essentially what it is. It has four firing modes: basic plasma bolts (can be fired two at a time in multiple directions), a bolt fired into the air above enemies that splits into about a dozen smaller plasma bolts and rains down in a random pattern, an ether bolt (draws from ether casting pool) that causes lightning to strike at the spot where it hits the ground, and an ether bolt (draws from ether casting pool) that encases the thing it hits in a person-sized block of ice.
Phone or Connection Gear or a larger U.M.N. terminal. MOMO can also interface with hers mentally due to her abilities as a 100-Series Observational Unit.
    • U.M.N. Phone: An advanced smartphone that communicates not over-the-air, but through the Unus Mundus Network, AKA hyperspace, AKA the Collective Unconscious. Uses a holographic interface.
  • Backstory: MOMO was created by genius scientist Joachim Mizrahi for the sake of providing a sturdier body for, and later for the hope of resurrecting, his terminally ill daughter, Sakura. As a result, she thinks of Joachim as her father and his wife, Juli, as her mother. However, Joachim died during the Miltian Conflict, which he was wholly blamed for, resulting in his name being dragged through the mud. MOMO was subsequently used as the basis for the production of further 100-Series Observational Units. However, because her father had stored information on all his research (and a few other important things), which had been lost in the course of the Conflict, within the subconscious of MOMO's cybernetic mind, she became an important pawn fought over by multiple factions. Eventually, she was kidnapped by the U-TIC Organization, but was soon rescued by the cyborg Ziggurat 8, whom she nicknamed Ziggy.

Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, MOMO met Jr., finally learned the truth about what had actually happened on Miltia, made peace with herself and her parents, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    Gaignun Kukai Jr.
  • Name: Gaignun Kukai Jr. AKA Jr. AKA Rubedo Yuriev AKA U.R.T.V. Variant Unit Number 666
  • Age: Looks 12, actually 27.
  • Appearance: Looks cute and cuddly, actually deadly. He is 140 cm tall and weighs 38 kg.
  • Personality: Jr. is politically savvy and strategic in his decision-making. He is empathetic and friendly towards those who mean well, but has little tolerance for cruelty. Seeing others mistreated angers him, and in difficult situations, he uses a lot of profanity. He has a fondness for antique guns, action movies, and collecting classic novels and literature. Jr.'s easygoing attitude masks his emotional trauma and guilt. He felt that he abandoned his siblings during the Miltian Conflict and left them to die. As their leader, he held himself responsible for their safety and protection. Jr. dislikes being called "Rubedo" because it brings back painful memories of the Yuriev Institute he'd rather leave in his past. It also carries the stigma of outing him as a U.R.T.V., and he doesn't want to be thought of as a "monster", as the U-DO-tainted U.R.T.V.s assaulted civilians during the Miltian Conflict. He gets along well with the rest of the party, and particularly well with chaos, whom he shares a history with, Jin, with whom he shares interests, and MOMO, who has a crush on him and reminds him of her "sister", Sakura.
  • Powers:
    • Polymath: Jr. is something of a Renaissance Man and has in-depth knowledge on a range of topics including chemistry, history, linguistics, literature, physics, and politics.
    • U.R.T.V.: A child soldier with superior genes, Jr. is at peak fitness for an individual of his apparent age, and is a powerful psychic, with his primary ability being to project anti-U-DO psychic brainwaves, which produce a large amount of heat in a chain reaction when they collide with U-DO's own psychic waves. He also displays surface-level telepathic communication, telekinesis of many small objects (enabling him to redirect his bullets after they are fired), and pyrokinesis to the point of being able to project a spherical burst of flame out from his person with a diameter of about ten feet (though this tires him considerably). He has also involuntarily stopped aging, due to his mental and emotional trauma interacting with his psychic powers.
    • Weapons Use: Jr. is a skilled gunslinger, preferring to dual-wield pistols ambiko, and skilled pilot of mecha from his home universe.
    • Vaquero: A pair of futuristic-looking, cowboy-style pistols that each carry about a dozen bullets at once.
  • Backstory: Jr. was born Rubedo, U.R.T.V. Unit #666, a Designer Child genetically engineered to have powerful psychic abilities for the purpose of being a child soldier and combating U-DO, a mysterious waveform that Rubedo's "father", Dimitri Yuriev, claimed was in danger of destroying the galaxy. As the one possessing the "perfect" anti-U-DO psychic wavelength, Rubedo was made the leader of his fellow U.R.T.V.s, and although the all-identical normal U.R.T.V.s shunned him for being different, his fellow Variant (i.e. unique) U.R.T.V.s were his closest friends. After a series of training missions in which they attempted to help Joachim and Juli Mizrahi's daughter Sakura by entering her subconscious mind and neutralizing the U-DO wavelengths that were slowly killing her (which ultimately ended when she died), Rubedo and many of his fellow U.R.T.V.s were deployed to the planet Miltia during a showdown between the Federation and U-TIC in order to neutralize U-DO, which Federation higher-ups anticipated would manifest into Real Space if the Zohar, which U-TIC was running experiments on, went out of control (it did).

While Rubedo and his siblings were pooling their psychic powers in an attempt to counter U-DO, part of U-DO touched his mind and gave him a vision of the planet cracking open, upon which he realized that the collision of their waves and U-DO's would not result in the waves neutralizing each other and dissipating, but instead create a gigantic thermal reaction, killing them all. Terrified, he cut off the psychic link between all the U.R.T.V.s, whereupon U-DO killed or drove insane all of them except his fellow variant Nigredo, who was wounded terribly. In the aftermath, the pair were rescued by chaos and Canaan, a pair of Federation covert operators, and later took on the aliases Gaignun Kukai and Gaignun Kukai Jr., starting an influential Foundation for people like themselves who had been victims of rampant genetic engineering.

After rescuing the rest of the party (sans Jin) from a swarm of Gnosis they were fleeing, Jr. took them aboard his flagship and ferried them to the Kukai Foundation space-station, which they directed to move toward Second Miltia. Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, Jr. joined the party for their many adventures, finally learned the truth about what had actually happened on Miltia, made peace with his siblings and watched them die, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    Jin Uzuki
  • Name: Jin Uzuki
  • Age: 36
  • Appearance: A man in futuristic Chinese robes using a Japanese-style sword. He is 183 cm tall and weighs 75 kg.
  • Personality: Jin's personality is mainly calm and composed. He is very reflective and contemplative. He loves to relax and reads books at his antique bookstore because he loves the feel of them, despite living in a futuristic era where most print has been discarded for digital distribution. He also has an interest in ancient religions, rituals, traditions, customs, etc. Jin's interests and hobbies put him at ends with Shion's interests of futurology; she claims Jin is obsessed with reading "weird old books" and claims his hobby is "stupid and old". He wishes to share this interest with her, but it backfires as she does not share his fascination with old things. Jin is unsure how to relate to his younger sister, so their relationship is tense. At times, Jin has pressured Shion into visiting their parent's memorial, despite that Shion didn't want to. Jin viewed it as her lacking a sense of "filial duty", while Shion viewed it as an unnecessary, useless ancient ritual which wouldn't bring her parents back to life. Jin loves Shion as his sibling and only remaining family, but his way of showing it is flawed. He gets along well with the rest of the party other than Shion, and especially well with chaos and Jr., who share some of his interests, the former also being his informal confidant.
  • Powers:
    • An Actual Doctor: Although 61st century medical doctors are basically just counselors for dying old people because nanomedicine has developed to the point of essentially being a panacea, Jin has mastered both professional nanomedicine and traditional medicine (i.e. the real life kind).
    • Earth Loremaster: Thanks to his lifelong interest in the lore of humanity's lost homeworld, Earth, and of old things that others see as obsolete, Jin is better equipped to adapt to 21st century life than most of the rest of the party. He is also a literature buff, having owned a physical bookstore, and is one of the few members of the party who would recognize Jr. or chaos' literary and mythological references.
      • Anime Sword Powers: Jin is an absolute master of the blade, and not only is he capable of plenty of acrobatics while fighting with a sword, but he uses Ether to enhance his attacks further. He can fire a weak beam attack from his hand, and can temporarily: sharpen any sword he uses to a frankly absurd level of sharpness, add electricity, fire, or ice to attacks with his blade, extend the effective reach of his blade invisibly through the air to attack at a greater distance, and increase his muscular strength. He once drew his katana and cut a mecha in half in one smooth motion.
    • Mecha Piloting: Jin is a skilled pilot of mecha from his home universe.
    • VB-Dawn: Jin's best katana-like sword (that's the best image I could get of it, sorry). Sheath not pictured. As you can sort of but not quite see from the image, it has a white guard, a greenish hilt, and grey and purplish bits along the length of the blade. Even without Jin applying his Ether skills, it has impressive cutting power rivaling KOS-MOS' literal blade-arm (able to cut steel and 61st century alloys).
  • Backstory: Jin was born to his parents Aoi and Suou on the planet Miltia, and eventually had a younger sister, Shion. Jin grew up learning swordsmanship and martial arts from his grandfather, alongside fellow students Margulis and Pellegri, being rivals with the former and eventual lover of the latter. When Jin was about 21, he had become a Captain in the Federation military, and was acting as a courier between a mole in the U-TIC Organization and Federation forces in the run-up to the Miltian Conflict. During the Miltian Conflict, he met Federation Covert Operators chaos and Canaan, who were on a mission of their own. After entrusting them with certain data he had obtained regarding the truth behind U-TIC, he left to rescue his sister. After they migrated to Second Miltia, a traumatized Shion blamed her brother for not saving their parents and distanced herself from him as much as possible. Jin tried to raise her as best he could, but he was afraid that if he pushed her too hard, she would completely shut him out and disown him as her brother. Fourteen years after the Miltian Conflict, he reunited with Shion and chaos after they arrived on Second Miltia for a different reason, and subsequently joined the party.

Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, Jin learned the full truth about what had actually happened on Miltia, watched his former lover Pellegri die, slew his arch-enemy Margulis, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

    Allen Ridgeley
  • Name: Allen Ridgeley
  • Age: 25
  • Appearance: Just some schmuck in love. Although he'll start out looking injured like so. He is 176 cm tall and weighs 66 kg.
  • Personality: Because of his extremely competitive family, Allen resolved as a teenager that being a "man" meant meant being self-dependent, and navigating the trials of becoming an adult without his family's help. He has since left his family behind, preferring to not rely on them, and never mentions them unless asked. As an adult, while he still believes in being independent to some degree, he also believes everyone's troubles aren't meant to be compared, as they are still real to the person experiencing them. This leads to him objecting when Shion often dismisses her own feelings as “no big deal”, as he feels they are still valid. Allen cares for Shion deeply, willing to do absolutely anything for her and stand up to beings who could crush him like an ant for her sake, but until recently had trouble expressing his feelings to her. His feelings for Shion venture into co-dependence, as he wants to take Shion's sorrow away and ease her emotional pain, but couldn't until she decided to do so herself. Part of his personal journey was finding his own balance between independence and cooperation, and understanding his own strengths in who he is as a person. Allen's anxious personality, when combined with his tendency to bluntly share his observations and theories aloud, sometimes lead to him appearing as insensitive or inconsiderate. That said, he gets along okay with the rest of the party, and particularly well with chaos and Jin. One of Allen's secret passions is fishing.
  • Powers:
    • Engineering Smarts: Allen is one of his universe's top engineering minds and is skilled in both robotics and computer science, having played a part in developing KOS-MOS initially and assisting in KOS-MOS' reconstruction to a new and even better form after obtaining the gynoid's original blueprints and black box coding. As such, he can perform maintenance and diagnostics on KOS-MOS. He also knows how to perform diagnostics and maintenance for Realians, and could probably do the same for MOMO, a Realian, or Ziggy, a more human cyborg.
    • Weapons Use: Allen is a decent (but not amazing) marksman, and can competently pilot mecha from his home universe.
  • Backstory: Allen comes from a large, wealthy family. His father was a workaholic businessman who rarely played with him as a child. Allen's older brothers competed against one another to be their father's successor. Wanting to make his own way instead of follow in his brothers' footsteps, Allen went to Bormeo University on a scholarship and studied what he was interested in, then joined Vector Industries' First R&D Division after graduating and was placed on the KOS-MOS development project under then Chief Engineer Kevin Winnicot, alongside Shion Uzuki. Subsequently, the KOS-MOS prototype went berserk, killing Kevin and traumatizing Shion, who was soon promoted to Kevin's former position. Allen often oversaw Shion's Encephalon Dives to train KOS-MOS, and at least twice was forced to risk his life entering the dives to pull an oblivious and over-confident Shion out during anomalies before they collapsed and potentially killed her. He was aboard the Federation Cruiser Woglinde when it came upon a large, golden monolith out in Space. In the resulting chaos caused by a massive Gnosis attack, Allen accompanied a self-awakened KOS-MOS to rescue Shion.

Then, through an extremely complicated series of esoteric events filled with symbolism, further tragedy, and technobabble, all of which were orchestrated and otherwise manipulated by one individual, Allen met the rest of the party, learned the truth about what had actually happened on Miltia, grew a spine and confessed his love in the most ballsy way possible, and resolved to save the universe. Just before the party was to face down their enemies in a final confrontation, however, they were transported to Battleworld.

Chunkless Room

    Elsa von Brabant
A small former luxury cruise spaceship refitted into a carrier. About a dozen worker robots maintain the various facilities, but their programming prevents them from leaving. It contains:
1F:
  • Separate sleeping quarters for men and women;
  • A fully-stocked bar and small restaurant;
  • The ship's bridge with a view of Space;
  • U.M.N. terminals, as well as an Encephalon and associated Encephalon Dive gear (Encephalons enable travel into a mental virtual reality constructed by a combination of data from the U.M.N. and users' memories);
B1:
  • A room with a special maintenance bed/pod for KOS-MOS, and a different room with a chair that can be used for Ziggy or MOMO's maintenance (also located near these rooms are computers with data and blueprints regarding a series of giant robots);
  • A sizable holographic projector room;
  • A hanger containing the party's mechas and the Zohar (the hanger does not open into the Chunkless hallway, so it is impossible to move any of these things outside the Chunkless room);
B2:
  • Additional storage space (empty); and
  • Engine Room

Ok, so firstly, I need you to, how do I say, unwall Black Panther's entire entry. Anything that's a seperate item should get it's own paragraph and not be in the same one as everything else. Helps with readability. Until that's done I'm not able to review his part, which is looking to be a pretty large chunk of it considering his is larger then every other entry by a considerable margin. This is also present to a smaller extent in a few other areas, so I'd ask you give them all a once over and fix that.

Other then that the characters and chunk in general are good, but a few comments. Anything where you're saying something along the lines of "Can hack any X", "Can cut through any X" and so on is gonna need to be edited because we have a firm understanding here that there is no such thing as a "This is always going to work" thing in Battleworld, even ignoring the fact that I just accepted a chunkless group about a week ago that's over a thousand years ahead of Wakanda, there's gonna be stuff that just isen't all that compatible with Black Panther's hacking stuff, or materials that you won't be able to just cut through like it's paper. Same concept with anything else. If you insist it should anyway you can appeal but do be aware there's a guy in charge on Battleworld who goes out of his way to use magic and such to "Level the playing field" so to speak and who has in the past altered certain aspects of chunk and character equipment to force it to comply with this rule.

What I did read in terms of grammar and spelling could be improved. Now I'm not going to deny you because of this but it might help if you ran it through a spellcheck or something.

Alright I fixed the text, do you want me to make the chunk shorter then? and I meant the cut or hack into everything more in a hyperbolic sense I know there are things that can resist them and in which it will simply not work I planning to leave wherever something works or not depending in if the other player decides that it does, I know something that destroy everything or can control anything would be too broken and wouldn't be any fun.

That's good then but you know how it is if I don't say something then whoever I'm reviewing will be 100 percent serious about the "Can do it to anything" statement. Anyway I don't think I'm going to demand cuts here particularly since he's something of a unique case in this chunk and everyone else is more bound to normal limits but I will be asking for a few alterations.

Super Durability-I'm not really happy with the "Can survive point blank explosions" bit, particularly if he's gonna be dodging a lot of them in the first place. I'm ok with him being able to withstand the shockwave that would usually take someone out of action outside of the realms of movies but if it goes off in his face he shouldn't be casually walking away from it

Super Reflexes-You're allowed to catch arrows but bullets is where I draw the line no bullet catching.

Healing Factor-I'm ok with the general thing but "Heal from near death in a few hours" is a little too quick for my liking. Make that perhaps a day?

Jets-Are these armed? If so what are they armed with?

Other then that I just wanna make a point of noting that if you, say, have other jets that can be driven by other people in the chunk that will be used in combat, as well as any other kind of milltary vehicles or major equipment, I'd like it to be listed somewhere in the chunk entry because someone may be ticked off if you suddenly pull a surprise jet force from under your chunk

[up]There it's I hope it's better now, and I add the rhinos that showed up in the final battle of the black panther movie, I thought they were fun and not too overpowered, and sorry of Black Panther seemed too broken, but as you say he's the only super powered character in this chunk and the rest while they carry good weapons are still just peak human so I think that balances things out.

Independent characters

  • Raven Beak

    • Age: Unknown, though he is implied to be centuries old and a very experienced fighter.
    • Appearance: here is his artwork Keep in mind that the guy is freaking tall (I would say between 15 and 17 feet tall).

    • Personality: Raven Beak is the stoical ruthless leader of the Mawkin tribe, a Chozo tribe composed of warriors. He is a tyrant and a galactic conqueror who puts power and conquest above all else. To him, power and fear are the only way to keep absolute order in the universe. His motto is after all Hadar sen olmen, "Power is everything". He is also arrogant, and for a good reason being one of, if not the strongest Chozo alive to this day. Raven Beak is also manipulative, without any moral, pragmatic, patient, and cunning. He would not hesitate to discard allies the moment they have proven useless to him, or are planning to betray him or go against his order. He tends to punish them brutally, sending an example to those that dare defy his might. Raven Beak is also arrogant, will not hesitate to mock his opponents during battle, and is quite of a Master Race guy. Even when he would reluctantly team up or serve under somebody, this will only be temporary. With that said, he can have some respect for those that match his powers and have a similar mindset to his.

    • Powers:

      • Physical strength: Raven Beak is much faster and more agile than his tall physique implies. He is extremely strong and brutal when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, using powerful claws swipes, or even stomping on his opponents. He can also use a devastating dash punch. His most well-known move however is when he manages to grab his opponent by the neck, lift them off the ground to choke them while staring at them with his angry eyes.

      • Flight: Chozo have lost their wings a long time ago, yet somehow, Raven Beak retained them. His large wings allow him to soar through the air at a quick speed to ram at his opponent and unleash his projectiles at them from a safe distance.

    • Equipment:

      • Raven Beak's main equipment is his Power Suit, which grants him a good number of abilities:

      • Projectiles: There are many projectiles Raven Beak can use with his Arm Cannon. For example, he can fire several small beam bursts, generate a Sunburst, a large sun-like orb that can shoot wave projectiles around itself but can be destroyed using a powerful bomb, a Darkburst, a ball of darkness that follows the opponent and explodes upon contact or being hit enough times. But his most recognizable and deadly projectile is the Hyper Beam, a devastating beam that he can even use as a sort of sword. While it's his most powerful attack, the Hyper Beam cannot kill people in one single use.

      • Defense: The Power Suit by itself grants some durability to Raven Beak, though it doesn't completely protect him from damage. In addition, he can use an ability called Lightning Armor. This ability cloaks Raven Beak in a blue aura and makes him impervious to any attacks. It goes from blue to red as it is damaged by enemy weapons. Overcharging the Lightning Armor will make it disappear, making Raven Beak vulnerable again, and making him unable to use it for the rest of the battle.

      • Mobility: Raven Beak can use the ability Flash Shift to almost instantly move from one spot to another. However, this move can only be used 3 times maximum consecutively and the set distance has a limit of 20 feet. Furthermore, it needs to cool down every 20 seconds after each use. He can also the Shinespark ability, gathering energy for 1-2 seconds while hovering in the air with a blue aura before propelling himself in a set direction (even upwards), until he hit something solid enough to stop him in his tracks or the energy gathered dies down. Everything that can't stop him will be destroyed in his path.

    • Backstory: Raven Beak used to rule over the Makin's homeworld, ZDR, with an iron fist. He was amongst the Chozo that sealed the Metroid away but planned to use them as bioweapons. That plan was put on halt after losing all of his tribe in an incident involving a deadly parasite known as the X as soon after he returned to ZDR. But by the time he was able to contain the X and focus back on his plan, the Metroids have already been exterminated by Samus Aran, ruining his plans. As he searched for a way to rise again, Raven Beak soon found himself in Battleworld. A world that will soon kneel before him...

  • Ridley

    • Age: Unknown

    • Appearance: His appearance varies, depending on the game he's in. I'll go with his appearance from Smash Ultimate

    • Personality: Ridley, at first, looks a monstrous beast, but he's more than that. Known as "the Cunning God of Death", Ridley lives for chaos and murder and enjoys nothing more than leaving nothing but corpses in his path. This brutal monster is also highly intelligent, being one of the Space Pirates' leaders and having built a robot, Mecha-Ridley in his image, and is very sadistic, enjoying taunting his opponents about their lost loved ones. While he doesn't like being commanded and sees himself as superior to most other races, he won't have a problem with it as long as he can have fun, as demonstrated when Mother Brain took over the Space Pirates. He is known to have a very short temper whenever he's reminded of Samus Aran, the only one who defeated him countless times, and is likely to hate anyone who humiliates him with passion.

    • Powers

      • Flight: His large wings allow Ridley to fly at great speed. He can even use them as means of attack.

      • Physical Strenght: As one would expect from a brutal large space dragon, Ridley mainly uses his jaw, claws, and feet to rip his opponent to shred or crush them. Even his tail is a weapon, using it as a delay stabbing tool. One thing he loves is grabbing his opponent and dragging them across the ground to ensure maximum pain.

      • Projectiles: Ridley can fire several projectiles from his mouth, mainly fireballs that can explode upon hitting the ground, or a deadly Plasma Breath.

      • Resilience: Ridley is no pushover. While he lacks armor, he is still able to somewhat resist many attacks until he would be killed. He is very adaptable, his lair on Zebes being in the fiery depths of Norfair. Obviously, Ridley isn't immortal, but his troops have constantly find some way to "resurrect" and improve him when he was found near death, and has proven to be very adaptable when it came to survival.

    • Backstory: Ridley was the most fearsome leader of the Space Pirates, an alien race that sought to conquer the galaxy. He is responsible for the genocide on planet K2-L, and the invasion of planet Zebes, with the assistance of the rogue Chozo computer, Mother Brain. With her help, he managed to get his hands on the deadly parasites known as Metroids, but his plans were foiled when Samus Aran, the sole survivor of K2-L's massacre raided Zebes and managed to kill him a first time. Ridley somehow survived and was rebuilt by his army, becoming the cyborg known as "Meta-Ridley". I will pass on the Metroid Prime Trilogy since it isn't necessary to understand Ridley's story, but even with his form, Ridley was defeated by Samus three more times, each time coming back. He reappeared a fifth time on the planet SR388 in a form known as "Proteus Ridley", having lost most of his cybernetic implants, to prevent Samus Aran from taking the last remaining Metroid with him. But once again, Ridley was defeated. The deadly Pirate reappeared one final time on the space station Ceres to steal the last Metroid. Taking Samus by surprise, he managed to defeat her and escaped to Zebes once more and attempted to have the Metroid cloned. But even that failed, and Ridley met his definitive demise at the hands of Samus in the depths of his lair in Norfair... Or so it seemed. Once again, the dragon survived and escaped an exploding Zebes at the last moment. But the Space Pirates were no more. Having nothing left but his own rage and his bloodlust, Ridley somehow found himself in Battleworld. A world that will learn to fear him.

Hey there, Scipion!

I'm not the GM, but I've been a part of the game since the beginning, and I know Meanken's expectations well.

First thing's first: LOVE the organization and attention to detail you've put in the signup. Keep that dedication, and you're going to make the veteran G Ms very very happy.

Unfortunately, I suspect that you will find playing the Queen Metroid a very difficult task in this game. Despite the name and basic premise, there's a lot more negotiation and comradery-building on Battleworld than there is wide-scale combat. Since the Queen Metroid is essentially feral, it's going to be tough to reason with her, let alone find a means for her to ask the planet's creator for special favors ("wishes") later on in the game. Nerfs are one thing, but I fear the characters' very foundation is too big of a hurdle for this game.

Raven Beak is a touch more reasonable, since while he's clearly a "Might = Right" Spartanesque villain, he can at least work with others. Though if he thinks he'll be able to curb-stomp anyone who even looks at him funny, he's going to be in for a very rude awakening. We don't have many openly-villainous characters on Battleworld because active aggressors tend to have a short life span. To give a contrasting example: Count Dracula's no Good Guy, but he plans out his malevolent actions carefully and tries to leave no loose ends that could be tied back to him.

I'd encourage you to consider another group to play, or if you're settled on a Metroid group, to nix the Metroids and add Samus Aran as part of Raven Beak's chunkless. There are no rules against having enemies getting brought into Battleworld together—it's actually an easy way to get other groups involved in your characters' plots!

Anyways, I'm happy to help out with ideas if you need it. I'd encourage you to put a list of other potential ideas you were thinking of in this signup sheet—that might save you the time and energy of making a full signup sheet that might not work in this game.

Thanks for showing an interest in Battleworld 2.0!

[up] Alright, I understand, thanks for the tips.

Maybe chunks are a bit too ambitious for me, so I think it would be better with only playing Raven Beak and add Ridley as well (they could still be enemies, Raven Beak believing that might makes order, and Ridley being a sadistic monster). I figured out RB and Ridley would be forced to team up with a faction instead of fighting everyone head-on like you said, which won't be a problem. (I'm considering Raven Beak going into Castlevania (insert Metroidvania joke here), and Ridley probably into Outworld).

Perhaps they could also fight over an independent Metroid (that is more likely to live its own life inside Battleworld)

Raven Beak in Castlevania sounds like a lot of fun. The Count's already got a few Big Bads in his corner, so Raven Beak would fit right in! [lol]

Bit of a spoiler for plans in the relatively near-future: Outworld is going to be invaded and destroyed by a multi-chunk army, since Shao Kahn is one of the few lingering "obviously aggressive and evil" villains on the planet. Ridley could still join up with Outworld, but he's going to find himself on the losing end of a fight sooner or later. He could always pull a Starscream and bail at the last minute, but I just want to let you know that Outworld (and subsequently, the Koopa Kingdom) won't be around for much longer.

Naturally, since both of these characters are final bosses/recurring bosses in an advanced sci-fi setting, they're going to get a harder bonk of the nerf stick than, say, your stronger-than-average humans. Fortunately, it sounds like you're aware of that already.

Hello actual GM here, firstly thanks for being understanding of the concerns about your chunk signup. As Theo says those two would work fine as a chunkless, and yes, as the player of Outworld I'm going to have to confirm that the plan is to kill them off soon. Whenever Ridley joins them then betrays them or just runs rampant on targets no one else on the planet gives a damn about is up to you lol.

Fortunately, there's a high chance they can meet during the Outworld invasion. Crazy murderhobos unite! [lol]

[up] Hey, why not? I think Ridley could rampage on his own for a moment until he becomes noticeable.

Ok, so on one hand, we have Ridley, who is more or less fine in his current form. On the other hand we have Raven Beak, who is less fine. He seems to be suffering from what I term Boss Syndrome. Let’s go through the list.

Firstly, I really don’t need the Dread spoilers that honestly don’t add anything that I’m not about to remove anyway. Please remove those.

Understand the durability of his armor will not be at the levels implied by your signup. I don’t mind him being tough but he shouldn’t be capable of withstanding a platoons worth of firepower without noticing.

I’d like more detail about the projectiles he launches with his wings

What does the black hole do when/if it hits? If it works like a normal black hole then it needs to go I don’t have a realistic way to nerf that. Need the same for the Hyper Beam it doesn’t like, disintegrate people on contact or anything nuts right?

So while I’m willing to allow this first form “Invulnerable” mode under my “Energy Shield” rules, it’s to be understood that it can’t withstand more then like, one, two attacks max if they’re not all that strong, and no on destruction wave attack. And as for the second form, that’s gonna need to be removed completely.

Lastly, teleports have a limit of about 20 feet with a hard limit of like, 20 seconds between each one and no instant movement it should take like a second for the teleport to happen due to issues with being too easy to ghost attacks.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to edit all of that.

About the wings "projectiles", this wasn't what I meant. I meant that RB can still shoot the projectiles described in his description while flying. It's alright if you were confused (English isn't my first language, so I can make or two mistakes) so I'm going to reformulate that.

The Darkburst works like the original game. Though it's following the opponent and looks like one, it's not an actual black hole and more of a ball of darkness that just explodes upon contact, and can still be destroyed. Same thing with the Sunburst, which can be destroyed with a powerful explosion, or disappear after a moment. I'm also going to add those elements.

Of course, RB's Hyper Beam wouldn't disintegrate people with one hit, at least if they are wearing armor. I'm willing to nerf it further if necessary.

As for the Flash Shift, RB can only uses it 3 times and he'll have then to wait a bit until the ability recharges, like in the original game. I'm still fine with your restrictions.

Right. I’d like the Hyper Beam just to be taken down to the point where someone with no armor or damage mitigation could survive it but still take heavy damage. This is mostly out of practicality, if it always kills unarmored people, then no named character with no armor will ever get hit by it since no one really wants their named characters dying.

[up] Alright. I think I corrected the description unless I missed something.

I'm thinking about rejoining (yet again) but this time with a chunk! However, I can't really decide on which one to go with. I'm deciding on the following:

Dunwall from Dishonored

Bugaria from Bug Fables

Indol from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (plus Rex's party)

The Mojave Wasteland from Fallout: New Vegas (Most likely a condensed version)

If you guys have anything to say, that would be much appreciated!

Mojave Wasteland Sounds like a good idea with factions like the NCR or Legion.

It's the same as always! I just wonder if I should fold those blood lumps into squares or triangles this time?
