The thing that's murdering me right now is the letter indicators under the characters. I grew up on SNES, so occasionally I just glance to, say, Razmi in the right-side position and then hit A to make her block and she dies.

EDIT: To clarify, the SNES buttons are offset from the X Box controller's by one space, so B is at the bottom, Y is on the left, X is on top, and A is on the right. The letters being helpfully displayed below your characters is really not helpful for me.

While I love the platforming in this, some things are kind of unexplained

Spoiler for midgame: like how you can hit the big red levers in the iron kingdoms factory with arrows. And ONLY arrows. I thought they were just decoration until i needed to hit one to gain access to an area. I tried almost everything (except arrows) for like a whole day. Nothing in the game even indicated the levers are intractable.

Anyways yea games fun

The sound of the axe digging into a wall is just really satisfying. And that's like the first thing you get.

So if you don't recruit Tungar while the fortress is falling is he just dead forever?

Took me a little while to figure out how Barnacle Grip worked. You gotta wait a second before hitting the button again.

And wow, Garuda Cruel's "platforming" bit is ridiculously easy. As is the boss battle itself. Much easier than Maha Ravannavar.

I think the three bosses in the three gate locations are a bit underpowered because you could technically complete them in any order once you have the necessary movement powers so they had to be balanced with that in mind

[up][up]I was going to suggest that each time you beat one the remaining ones could be buffed, but it crossed my mind that that can be trickier in a game like this than in a standard JRPG.

Okay, I'm starting to see why some people are annoyed by the personal quests. At least I can pick up Ringsels I missed before while doing all of the requisite backtracking these quests demand.

Also, the poison enemies you encounter in Iron Town during the later act are some serious bullshit. They make using melee characters a pain in the rear.

Finished the game. You can definitely see where the corners had to be cut, *coughgarudacruelcough* , and there was a bit too much retreading the same ground in some spots (Sumeru's return being the worst offender there), but I really enjoyed the game. The characters were fantastic and the combat was a whole lot of fun. The opening areas were the most well paced, but I did enjoy the later arcs of Ajna growing past her flaws. And the ending got me in the emotions. I saved Razmi's goodbye for last, and it got me very choked up.

Yeah, at least when you revisited the other areas you fought different bosses.

I also kind of wish completing the sidequests gave you more gameplay bonuses along the lines of Latigo being able to fire his sixth bullet.

Razmi mentioning something about legends she heard were mostly about her and Bom in regards to the legends of Mt Sumeru makes a lot more sense at the end of her personal quest.

Fought the secret boss. Mike Z's cat is one nasty customer. That laser attack feels like you have to be blocking before the startup happens if want to survive. The "reward" from Mike Z was an fun goof.

I have a need for crossover fanart of Frisk Undertale and a Vegetoid as Ginseng and Honey.

While watching the credits again I realized I'd missed the fact that Razmi is taking care of Roti now, I'm emotional... ;_;

It took me half an hour to clear one of the jumping puzzles in Mt. Sumeru and I'm still not done.

Kinda glad the game's a flop now.

It already made $2M on Indiegogo, so any claims of flopping will be pretty relative.

Aight here's some impressions post Mt. Sumeru's roundtrip.

My favorite part of the game's story is that Ajna is genuinely bad at being a hero. She means well but she's arrogant, destructive and leaves a trail of chaos wherever she goes, and I'm happy that that's a feature rather than a bug. Unfortunately it's somewhat let down by most of the gang just hanging around Ajna not caring that she's a horrible monster who blew up a town and all instantly forgive her for destroying Lhan, but I chalk that up most to making sure the game doesn't dwell too much on one thing to keep the breakneck pace.

Dhar's death was legitimately touching as his and Ajna's little buddy comedy act was a highlight of the game. Dhar does something unforgivable and spends the rest of his time trying to do something right, and you feel genuine sympathy when Ajna rips into him which is pretty impressive since he's the JRPG evil guy who burned her town and killed her father. While the Incarnations as a whole are pretty underwhelming as characters, Dhar was a standout and interesting one, and I'm going to miss him.

The YMMV page was not kidding about the guards in Tai Krung. I think that has to be a numbers error or something.

What I discovered about them is that you can't just hold block through the attack, you have to block each hit.

It's actually pretty cool for an enemy to just flat out wreck you like that. My biggest gripe with the game is that the difficulty just does not stay, and I hope that gets patched real soon.

According to Mike it was supposed to be that way. Clean Blocks were supposed to be essential late game. The enemies also weren't supposed to be killed in one turn late game.

I guess I'll need to invest more Ringels into Defense. I'm at the point where a Perfect Block does no damage, but I didn't know you had to keep hitting the button.

Just finished Iron Kingdom Act 2.

Gotta say that Kushi has become a favorite of mine gameplay wise. Note: Have not found the crossover characters yet.

  • Down ATK (ground stance) hits like a truck.

  • Kushi counters A LOT of enemy types. Flying, “Must launch to damage” (down atk is a launcher), Toxic (down atk counts as a projectile, meaning she’s an asset in Iron Kingdom Act 2). Only type so far she doesn’t counter is armored.

  • Very durable (3rd most durable party member behind Phobe and Langshi).

  • Her “jump” attack once you get 4 action points becomes a moderate damage unblockable AOE.

  • /- Cannot use gauge.

- Slow. Comes with being a Mighty Glacier.
