Custom title only for work, not trope

I created a page for Battlecry, the title of which is normally styled BattleCry (upper-case C), hence a custom title. However, there's also a trope called Battle Cry, and that seems to be affected too. Does the custom title system allow for namespace-dependent substitution, or does the custom title apply to all instances of the letters "battlecry" regardless of namespace?

(If there's no way of differentiating them, the custom title should probably be undone, since calling the game Battlecry seems less wrong than calling the trope BattleCry.)

There is no namespace dependent custom title, sorry.

Okay, thanks. How does the current custom title get undone, then? I'd use the same form that requested it in the first place, but if I asked for "Battlecry" to become "Battle Cry", that would presumably turn the video game into the same as well (unlike the situation before a custom title was created, where "Battlecry" appeared as such even though the trope displayed as two words).

You undo a custom title by submitting a request for the title to be the same as the natural Wiki Word. And yes, it will undo all versions of that title across all namespaces. Until we have a more organic system, it'll have to remain this way.

Well, I submitted a request for what I think you said, but nothing seems to have happened. I'm not sure if it's still pending or whether I've misunderstood something.

You were requesting BattleCry as a custom title. I dunno if it was a mistake but it's exactly the title you wanted to remove.

It's what I thought Fighteer meant above by "natural Wiki Word". Sorry. But in any case: what should I put in the form (both fields) to get the custom title cancelled, then?

You need to ask for "Battle Cry" after having put in Battle Cry in the "custom title for..." field.

Well, now they both seem to display (on the pages in question, anyway - links seem to be different?) as "Battle Cry", with a space. It looks like the old custom title (making them both display as "BattleCry") has been replaced with a new custom title (making them both display as "Battle Cry"), rather than being removed with altogether, as I'm trying to achieve. What now?

There is no way to "remove" a custom title in the system, only replace it with something else.

I guess the current title is probably the best option available, then - it's not correct for the work, but better that than have the trope name be weird. I suppose it all now comes under the "Tech Wishlist" part of the forum name.

Bumping. Now that we're in 1.3, I took a look at the custom title form for the page, and while it shows "BattleCry" as the Existing Custom Display, there's one in Pending Approval that's Battle Cry, which is how it's showing up on its wicks. Does the BattleCry title need to be re-submitted?

I am more inclined to ditch it. If it's messing up the display of another page it shouldn't be there (and so much about shared titles being "super rare cases"...)

I think making pending requests visible is a big improvement for the custom title tool. I also think it's unfair to blame tropers for submitting HTML entities, which the wiki seems to have done on its own on several occasions, and not knowing keyboard codes which only work on Windows computers.

These HTML entities are a nuisance. The submission form as well as the actual backend customizer do not appear to be capable of handling them.

[up]Unfortunately, custom titles seem to be so broken now that extended Unicode characters cannot be submitted at all, foiling my attempts at fixing some of them.
