With the Tenakth being "blooddrinkers" and "from the south", my money is on an Aztec origin. Possibly emerging from a tribe taking shelter in the(museum preserved) ruins of Tenochtitlan?

The Carja already have a lot of Aztec similarities, so I dunno. Though I guess it would be interesting to have a tribe evolved from limited understanding of Aztec teachings, and how different they are than the actual Human Sacrifice tribe.

They could switch it so they're more Norse, though we got that with the Oseram and their ALMOST DWARVES but NOT QUITE.

Something more nordic, except... they're in the south? We've had the Native American and Aztec expy offshoots...

BUT looking at their concept art they seem to be more Moari - or even another Native American inspired element:

Lots more body paint, bone armour and weapons..

So what kind of game is the first game?

Open world adventure.

edit - Damn, no-one posted the trailer.

@Redmess: If you're interested, the first game including DLC is £10 on the store at the moment (about $13?), which is ludicrously good value.

Just watched a lets play of the opening part. Gotta say, those nylon ropes look awfully fresh and new. Wonder where they got those?

I bought the game, so I'll try it out shortly. Looks really fun.

I personally need to check the game out for myself. All I know about it is that Aloy looks really good.

Even the NP Cs look good. The game has some of the best facial animation I've seen in a videogame.

Harvested off machines, most likely. They're a Stone Age society who are effectively early Steel Age because of all the stuff they can scrap off machines.

Ironically, the one actual Steel Age tribe looks more primitive in some ways because they forge their own armor, which looks a lot rougher than the machined parts everyone else uses.

Just in case someone needs a recommendation to get into this game because the sequel piqued their interest: Absolutely get it no question. It is probably the best open-world game I have ever played.

Graphics are jaw-dropping, art and world design are exquisite, exploration is fun and combat is exciting.

It is an awesome game. Awesome as in the original definition, it brings awe.

It's also coming out on PC soon.

Will the sequel be on PC at release? The trailer was just for Playstation, but I've seen trailers for games that I know are multi-platform not do a good job of showing it.

I'm a little surprised. A big issue I had with Zero Dawn is that they didn't leave much room for a sequel. Here's hoping it involves Time Travel or something else full scale sci-fi.

Huh... did you play the game?

There's a ton of hanging plot threads...

  1. Who sent the signal that subverted GAIA's subordinate functions? Why did they do it?
  2. What is Sylens going to do with the remains of HADES?
  3. What are the other subordinate functions of GAIA up to? With HADES and HEPHAESTUS having gone insane, it's safe to assume the others are likely not faring too well.
  4. What happened to Ted Faro after he killed the Alphas?
  5. Aloy has been tasked with rebuilding GAIA prime.

Here's hoping it involves Time Travel or something else full scale sci-fi.

...Surely you're joking?

Anyway, the plague/red grass thing seems to indicate we're going to see what's up with either DEMETER or ARTEMIS in this game.

[up] Mind spoilers, since we have people who've never played it in here now.

But yeah, it absolutely has space for a sequel, and it is one of the best open-world games I've played. It's not perfect, but the things I don't like about it are relatively minor issues.

Controversial opinion; I like it more than The Witcher III.

It looks as though the sequel has taken a few nods from Breath of the Wild. Pretty interesting, considering the original was slightly overshadowed by it.

I hope you get more stealth options, it seems annoying that you can only hide in one particular type of grass.

[up][up] Yes, it did look rather more open in some shots, but I think it's probably too early to say. They could definitely do worse than take elements from Breath of the Wild though.

The only change from the first game I particularly want to see is fewer weapons but more customisation. I've talked about it here before, but do you really need several different bows and several different slings and so on for different ammo types? It makes no logical sense. I would rather have only a handful of base weapons that can be modded extensively.

[up]x5 Well, it looks like there is a solid possibility aliens are involved or something from space. So not too far off. I mean hell, I've grown accustomed to games having huge mystery plots that the trailer doesn't even touch on so I doubt the red mist will be relevant for long.

Maybe aliens, since that's not completely impossible. The signal that corrupted GAIA's subroutines had to come from somewhere, but at the same time there are much more obvious terrestrial sources. Faro, for example, has tons of stuff foreshadowing his survival in some form, and he has the Omega clearance to do it.

But time travel? No. There are no hints that time travel is even slightly a part of the universe. And time travel is not something that you want to pull out of nowhere.

Plus time travel kinda undermines the whole backstory and its tragedy.

Without even going into how time travel plots are often full of plotholes.

Even "something from space" isn't necessarily extraterrestrial.

From about the time I found the datapoints about it I've been fairly confident that the Odessy/Far Zenith and its Apollo backup is going to be plot significant somehow and the re-entry flares in the trailer tend to solidify that suspicion.

The 'meteors' in the trailer made me think of some kind of satellite weapon, but the Odyssey is probably a good shout too.

The backstory was too damn tragic for my tastes. So I'd be fine with The Odessy and Apollo making a return to Earth.
