I thought The Spot was supposed to be the main villain.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).If by "mainstream" you mean "people who follow Spider-Man," then people would at least know about him. Morlun isn't obscure - he's a been a major Big Bad for some of the bigger Spider-Man stories in the past couple decades. You'd probably get tons of pop culture news articles about the villain being "the man who killed Spider-Man" or "Spider-Man's multiversal archenemy" or whatever.
He's just really boring.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. His entire thing is that he's a mystical vampire.
Thats it.
He's different from Morbius because Morbius drinks blood while Morlun drinks the spiritual animal totem energy that empowers people like Spider-Man.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."He also once ate Hostess Fruit Pies Spiderman.
Not even distracting him with Hostess Fruit Pies worked.
Morlun's power is endless, and his evil knows no limits whatsoever.
It's was only by a miracle that he was stopped, for he who can resist Hostess fruit pies is mighty indeed.
One Strip! One Strip!
Heck, being a mystical vampire should have given him more body than it really does.
Really, his whole deal is summed up as "stronger than Spider-Man." He doesn't have much in the way of personality traits, quirks, or relationships (even the rest of his family, the Inheritors, don't really do much but talk about how much stronger they are than everyone else). He doesn't have interesting powers, or a fun fighting style. He throws punches very hard.
He wants to eat Spider-Man. He's stronger than Spider-Man. So Spider-Man can't stop him alone. That's it.
The first time he showed up it made sense, he was mostly just an excuse villain for Spider-Man: The Other's big "Peter unlocks the power within" story. Guy shows up. Holy crap, Spidey can't beat him! Spidey "dies," gets a Super Spider power up, beats strong guy. That story didn't need a more robust villain because the real focus was on the mystical spider stuff and Spidey's spirit journey, and I doubt they even wanted to use one since Spidey (apparently) kills the guy at the end of the storyline.
Like, he wasn't great there. He was still boring. But the story wasn't really about him, he was just someone super strong Spidey needed to beat up, so meh. It's only really afterward, when they started having him make return appearances and Big Bad roles, that his lack of overall personality started really becoming a problem.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.IIRC he did fail to take down the newspaper comic strip Spider-Man, though, thanks to the intervention of... whats-his-face... the dude what weaves the web of destiny, I can't remember for the life of me lmao
Morlun also looks like he is bootleg Morbius (doesn't help that he's also a vampire, albeit a different kind), which is really funny.
Bite my shiny metal ass.In hindsight they really should have just leaned into the Victorian era gimmick and made him stereotypically British and stuffy and shit especially when his family got introduced.
Would have been pretty funny at least.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."> they mean people who've only seen the movies and some of the cartoons rather than hardcore fans
Basically yes,if Morlun was such a big deal he'd have the same recognition as Spiderman's other major villains,as it is he's someone only comic book fans would even be remotely familiar with

It's been 3000 years…Announced before Cinema Con this weekend, Part one is being pushed back from October of this year to June 2nd, 2023.
Likewise, Part 2 is now releasing March 29th, 2024.
Maybe the COVID delays are hitting harder than we previously thought.

Man it feels like no one worked on these names.
There are really generic.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Footage description of the opening 15 minutes[1] and there will be over 240 characters in the movie and will be set in 6 different universes.
The Sinister Six Universes?
Hope they're not biting off more than they can chew there. Big number doesn't necessarily mean good.
At this point I'd almost prefer just calling it "Spider-Verse 2/3"
So, does "Beyond the Spider-Verse" suggest it go beyond Spider-Man crossovers? Like, Sony's gonna bring in all the IPs they own in a Space Jam: A New Legacy or Ralph Breaks the Internet sort of way?
... Why do I get the feeling I'm gonna regret sending that idea out into the universe?

Bad Bunny as El Muerto has joined the battle
Well Marvel has done a Venomverse and is currently doing a Gwenverse series so clearly thats what its in refrence too.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
I wonder if Liv will make an apparition. She was ran over by a bus in the climax and never appears when the police is arresting Kingpin goons, so I think the implication is that she was sucked by the interdimensional portal
oh hey how are you doing?
