yeah, Donald doesn’t really do Subtle anything really.

Relatively complex (for him) inflections or acting (aka anything beyond happy/sad/angry/ect) is notoriously tough. In a language where tone and inflection is everything, everything he says is likely managled beyond belief.

I actually watched it for myself now, and the main difference is it sounds like his speech has been peppered with glottal stops I didn't know Japanese had, which makes him sound even more strangled.

By the way, the Japanese title for Ducktales (or at least the original 1987 version) is Naughty Ducks Dream Adventure.

... Naughty? Naughty how? What could they possibly be referring to with that?

Though I understand that Vin Diesel dubbed every instance of "I am Groot" in every language Guardians was released in.

But like in old Donald cartoons, I'm pretty sure in like quite a lot of languages it's Clarence Nash. I distinctly remember reading that he once quipped something like that they had him quack in English, German, French, Spanish, etc.

I do know that he definitely voiced Donald in the Latin American Dubs of The Three Caballeros.

He did?? Then that's yet one more thing i admire about him! Just like Antonio Banderas, who knows multiple languages and dubbed Puss in Boots in the foreign releases of the Shrek movies!

I'm torn between wanting to get into Scrooge's feud with Santa Claus and leaving it as a one-off gag.

I think we might be getting another go at a Christmas carol, actually.

Since this story has been done so many times with these characters before, a fun plot twist might be to have it be centered around Donald.

And speaking of Christmas Specials, here’s my favorite Barks Christmas Story, by the way. It’s a lower key one one, but it’s very sweet with a nice ending. It’s also notable because, while not stated outright, I think it’s implied that Santa doesn’t exist in the Duck-verse. X

It doesn't really work if the Scrooge isn't rich enough to be an actual scrooge, though. Donald fits Cratchitt far more than he fits Scrooge.

Barks made quite a few Christmas stories in his time. My favourites are perhaps A Christmas for Shacktown and Letter to Santa, the former for its Christmas spirit and the latter for the absurdity it quickly escalates to.

Man, that was a fantastic story.

Yeah it’s W CP 1-01, one of Bark’s earlier Scrooge stories, think. Here’s a review of it.

Now that I think about it, I did read this one Faraci/Cavazzano Story From 2007, where Scrooge shoves his cannon in Santa’s face, for walking into his money bin unannounced.

Honestly, the comic is just kind of weird. It’s a goofy Christmas on Bear Mountain tribute/rewrite, involving Santa’s grandfather, and magical time travel, with Cavazzano, of all people doing the art.

For the Ghosts,I know they are placed next to Scrooge, but I associate a bee more with Donald, honestly.

I know how easy it would be, but I really hope they don’t do the obvious thing, and have another Christmas Carol Type plot centered around Scrooge. Even without the Mickey’s Christmas Carol movie, that story has been, used, subverted, referenced parodied, etc, in a ridiculous number for Uncle Scrooge Christmas specials, and it would be good to see a bit of a change in the formula.

I thought the Christmas Special around the 80s (which was Alan Young's very first time playing Scrooge McDuck, but technically reprising his role as Ebeneezer Scrooge) was one of the best adaptations of A Christmas Carol.

If you mean the one with Mickey, then yes, absolutely.

I mean, it has Pete shoving Scrooge in his own coffin, which has hell fire coming out. I think it's actually one of the darker adaptations around.

That’s a great adaptation of a Christmas Carol, but my personal favorite is still the muppet one. (And IMO one of the few adaptations to actually get that final scene right, by trusting Micheal Caine’s performance to carry the scene, instead of manufactured drama or cheap scare, but that’s neither here nor there.)

So anyway, what would you guys like to see in a Duck Tales Christmas Special?

Scrooge isn’t quite as greedy as usual this time around, so a lot of the stock plots where he learns to be less horrible for a issue are out. If it is going to be Donald-centric, a story premise where he’s depressed or unhappy around the holidays, like this story, might work.
