Now that the news story's been updated, it's worth noting that:
- Birbalsingh has complained that legal aid was available to support the case. Which is very much in line with her wider politics.
- The student was excluded from the school after raising the complaint, which the court has overturned. Sounds as if this was seen as retaliation for speaking up.

Yes, this is similar to the French 2004 law that restricted religious symbols in public schools, which mainly affected Muslim students wearing hijab, but the government claimed that this law was equal to all religions, because Christians too can't bring big crosses to the school or something.
