I managed to watch it (for some reason, typing "Vixen" in a research engine for videos may not be that great an idea), and that looks really good. Of course it has some exposition awkwardness, but the running scene with Ollie and Barry looked great.

I really really really really really want it to work. The CW will now feature two of the coolest heroines ever. They already made my dream come true by adding Hawkgirl to their cast, but if they do so with Vixen too, I think I will start a cult to their glory.

Ehh, not impressed so far. I'm not a fan of 'edgy' attitude characters (male or female.) The sex joke was totally unnecessary. And no way is Vixen going to be a match for Flash AND Green arrow! Everything reeks of trying to sell the character way too hard. I like her for who she is well enough already; have a little more faith and focus on her story WB.

It's a safe bet that during this chase scene, F&GA have no idea what she is capable of, hence while they don't go with full power on her - either because they do not wish to hurt her, or because they do not want to get a nasty surprise when they catch her.

GA in particular is kind of known for getting his butt kicked the first time around, going back to the Quiv...the Arrow Cave, creating a strategy, and getting the upper hand later. As for Flash, there are obvious reasons that explain why he isn't all the time using his full speed.

I did not find Mari's attitude to be very different from JLU's Vixen, who had one of the sharpest tongues whenever she was on-screen (Hunter's Moon is basically Vigilante being repeatedly burned by Hawkgirl and her). The main difference is that JLU!Vixen was upper-class, while this Vixen seems more middle-class with some behavior troubles.

Managed to see the episode. It was... okay. I wish it had been longer so we could get a better understanding of Mari.

I really wish that the episode had started out with Mari's interview. I can't buy that just requesting a blow job would have been enough for her to stab the guy with a pencil. It feels like there were details not mentioned. Plus, there's the fact that her opening scene is being chased by two white guys followed by a flashback to her in jail. Not a good first impression.

[up] She a strong female character, violent reaction to something offensive is obligatory. Ask Agent Carter who punched people for less.

I'm not saying she shouldn't do it, especially if he was reaching hand creepily, I'm just saying that you cant make female character without scene like that anymore.

You can have female characters that do not react violently, but thankfully it is becoming increasingly rare for a FC not to be offended by such a situation.

I'm not saying she shouldn't have been offended but her stabbing the guy in the hand seemed kind of over the top unless he was trying to grope her. And like I said, we're not shown this incident so it doesn't have much of an impact.

Her stabbing the guy specifically in the hand sorta suggests he was trying to grope her.

I've done that. Well, it was a pencil, because it was during math class, but still. yay public high school?

Worked much better than the weeks of telling the dude to back off, because being 5 feet tall (maybe) and around 105 pounds soaking wet, I was not particularly intimidating.

Although, when said by a prospective employer during a job interview, said inappropriate suggestions would qualify as sexual harassment.

That said, a lot depends on what is actually meant by stabbing him in the hand with a pen. If it just broke the skin a little, that's one thing; if she actually stabbed the pen all the way through his hand, that's a whole 'nother thing.

[up]s'what happened with me. never did get so much as reprimanded, but only cuz the teacher wasn't paying a lick of attention and the rest of the girls in the class backed me. didn't manage to stab through his hand, but he had a little mark where the graphite point broke off for the rest of the year at least, and never bothered any of us again

Mari, though, I mean, no witnesses, and he was probably fairly influential for the company if not the head honcho, and she's a nobody, so even if it only broke the skin he could claim she " went psycho" when he refused to hire her and attacked him. even if it's not a lot of damage, it's still battery.

Just caught it.

Man, I'd have liked more context on the chase at the beginning before it ended.

Ah well, shouldn't be surprised with the whole 5 minutes thing.

There are supposed to be six episodes; if they're each five minutes, that adds up to a half-hour. So it might be better to think of this less as a series and more as a 30 minute special/pilot that's broken up into segments.

Ellowen: While I sympathize with you (and Mari) over the pencil stabbing, I had it done *to me* on elementary school- by a bully- so yeah, the act itself, no.

The guy who was interviewing/hiring for the job position was trying to get her to give him a blowjob..in exchange for Mari getting hired. Trust me, he deserved much worse things than being stabbed in the hand with a pen.

Sexual harrasment is an awful thing, so I'm fully behind Mari reacting the way she did. If people take the side of the creepy ass dude who was trying to sexually harass her, then honestly, shame on them.

Also, the Big Bad seen in episode 2 is voiced by Tiana!

I'll repeat myself, I dont have problem with reaction, I have problem that we need that scene for whatever reason.

Last time I recall male super hero getting introduction like that was Hal Jordan in Green Lantern cartoon. He punched a dude because he using diplomatic immunity to cover up his slave trafficking ring. T That quite well establishes his heroism, personality, problems with authority etc. Vixen scene, similarly to Agent Carter punching that one guy just shows that they're tough. Ya-pee, how fascinating.

[up]The funny thing about Vixen and Agent Carter is that one of the showrunners of Vixen is married to one of the showrunners of Agent Carter. They said they sometimes like to give each other input on their respective shows.

[up][up] We didn't even get that scene though? We just have Mari and her foster dad talking about Mari's reaction to the job interview dude? So I don't really see what the problem is.

And I don't see the issue you have with Agent Carter either. Like, Peggy's fighting dudes because they're either gangsters, threatening her friend, working for Leviathan, or her coworkers trying to arrest her based on false information. Should Peggy not fight?? I don't understand the problem.

Carter punched a guy cause he was making fun of her. (" What's with the accent, Queen Victoria? Thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army. ") Not a threat. I heard she did it more than once in her series, but I cant confirm.

My problem is, what that scene helped establish? Its beginning of series, we should learn important junk about Vixen, and I doubt "doesnt tolerate being sexually harassed" counts. Heck I would prefer if she stepped in to help other girl, that would at least establish her heroic nature.
