It's pretty silly too. They could easily give Tristan some cards based upon his Machine-style deck or something. He only has a few cards released to begin with(Cyber Commander, Roboyarou, Robolady, Super Roboyarou, Super Robolady) that I remember specific to him. Or at least was in the anime. One of the Battleguards too, but that pretty much was kept by Joey as part of his deck structure. Oh, right, there's Command Angel, and I don't remember Dawn of the Duel itself, but in Capsule Monsters, he did have Thunder Kid and Shovel Crusher. Thunder Dragon isn't exactly "tied" to him either way, but according to the Wikia he kind of has a Military deck.

Duel Links didn't have much to work with so Tristan got a vaguely themed deck based around the few anime cards we saw him get.

I don't really want Honda to ever get a deck because that would run counter to the fact he's not... y'know... a duelist.

If you actually look at the cards he played during the one duel in the virtual world, it becomes patently obvious he doesn't really know much about the game. He runs the A. Forces with not a single Warrior or Spellcaster, two high level monsters he can't summon, a ritual spell for a monster we don't see, fuckin' double snare and then the few cards he actually did play.

And then the monsters he used all seemed to be picked more because "they looked cool" rather than "these have synergy and would work as a strategy". You can't tell me he picked Command Angel for its effect that boosts fairy-type monsters when the only fairy he seems to play is Command Angel itself.

Shizuka lucked into having a half-functioning deck, but it's clear Honda doesn't really know what he's doing either.

You'd think he'd just choose a bunch of level 4 beatsticks at least, seeing how that's newbie friendly, easy to build, and difficult to screw up playing. Maybe 7-Colored Fish and Gemini Elf didn't look cool enough for him.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.

I mean, Garma Sword is a Warrior and... The A. Forces supports Warriors. Don't forget both Battleguards, of which one he owned, was a Warrior too. There's a fair chance he has that in his deck. They just gave him bad hands to make him lose, as part of the overall point. He's a bad duelist. He knows how to duel, but that's it.

What is noticeable is that the cards do support his teammates, so that's kind of what he does. His decks do reflect his purpose. Team Battles. And he does actually provide the route to the other two duelists winning(who aren't that great of duelists on their own).

Having a full deck for games make sense, though. He's still a duelist, just a super low-level ones that most kids can easily beat. That's... pretty much what he's been like in the games to begin with, heh.

He's also given the other Battleguard by Joey in the last main arc, so he clearly does have attachment to some Warriors. Either way, he has a prepared deck in Duelist Kingdom. He never dueled in the Manga, which does explain why he barely dueled in the anime. Not exactly something to transfer over(hence being all about support). Something to note is all his video game decks is guaranteed to have a Warrior too. It's unfortunate we don't actually see his proper deck, regardless of its quality, but they're likely mediocre monsters at best bar ones like Garma Sword, Sengenjin, Super Roboyarou, which are all fairly good within the particular DM era.

If Yugi and his friends were a gang of thieves, what would their roles and skills be?

The gang in this case consists of Yugi, Joey, Tea, Tristan, Duke, Mai, Serenity and Bakura.

Yugi would prolly be the head honcho and the guy who comes up with creative punishments, and the one most able to actually steal the marks. Joey and Tristan would be the muscle. Mai would be the Femme Fatale. Tea and Serenity being the moral compass. Duke in this case would be the face and scout, seeking out scores for the gang to steal and putting a legitimate front and alibi for them to hide behind.

Kaiba would in this case be basically Inspector Zenigata and Mokuba would be his deputy.

Makes sense for Kaiba. Zenigata is actually competent and good at his job. Lupin is just better overall. Many officers in fiction would ignore the "more important stuff" in order to catch the guy, but Zenigata goes out of his way to help save the day even if he has to team up with Lupin and his gang, because he knows what's legitimately the right thing to do. He has a good moral compass.

...Wait, maybe he's not too great a comparison to Kaiba. .-.

I'm surprised no one suggested Kaiba being The Mark. Or would that role go to Pegasus?

The official Yu-Gi-Oh account did a Gozaburo Kaiba post for Father’s Day...Seto, Mokuba, and Noah do not approve of this XD

Not sure what the complaint is about. Gozaburo taught Seto an important life lesson and laid the foundation for the man he became.

At least he's a bit more memorable than Marik's Father(the other horrid father), despite one only appearing in Filler. Funny that. XD

I don't get why they didn't use Yusei, Yuma or Yuya's dad. All a thousand times better than Gozaburo

Sometimes abuse isn't really funny. And yeah, there were tons of better dads to use, honestly. Not a horrible abusive father who basically couldn't stand losing so destroyed everything, including himself, out of fury. Seto's reason for destroying the site made a lot more sense. He wanted to, well, move on properly. The other one? Ew, no. It's just a temper tantrum. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

They probably went with Gozaboro because DM. And I’m pretty sure they’re self-aware that he sucks based on that quote.

Gozaburo is literally the funniest pick they could have gone with, clearly that was intentional. The only one that would even come close is picking Marik's father while he's carving the tattoo into Marik's back.

Also, there really aren't a lot of other options. At least Yugi's mom EXISTS in the manga, his dad might as well be Dark Magician.

Him and Mokuba together, they make a day of it. They go to the cemetery, dance together on his grave, and go get ice cream.

Nah, it wasn't about the tweet. It was about making a really bad excuse for the abuse within this thread. That wasn't actually funny.

The tweet was funny in a bad way, on the other hand. Though admittedly I'd rather have them post a better example of a dad, but eh.

Seto's a fictional character and nobody unironically thinks Gozaburo, a mustache-twirling bastard of a man, is actually a good dad. The abuse itself is already over the top to the point of being comical (I'm going to give you a loan with an extortionate rate and if you don't pay me back by next year I'm disowning you. If you don't accept, I'm also disowning you. Happy birthday.)

The comment made in this thread was as much of a joke as the tweet is. If you don't mind the tweet, the post really isn't any worse. Save the alarmist "please don't excuse abuse" for a show that actually treats it with a bit more gravitas and not just some backstory detail to justify why Kaiba is a raving lunatic with a dragon fetish.

The important life lesson mentioned in that post being "losing equals death", when Gozaburo committed suicide because Seto defeated him in business. Man is cartoonishly evil even by "cartoonishly evil dad" standards of anime, which are fucking high.

How about no. It's still abuse. It's not funny nor ever was.

The fact I made it clear I didn't actually like the tweet should be a wake up call that is a tasteless joke to begin with. Besides, he wasn't even played comically. He's an outright horrible man and 4Kids kept it that way too. He's hammy, but not comical. He's just not as heinous as the other horrible people(same with Marik's Father, who is surprisingly less awful by a tiny degree) to the actual same degree. Doesn't make him less awful and not a remotely funny character.

The only time he was ever played for laughs was in the Abridged series, which plays just about everything for laughs. Otherwise, he's taken quite seriously and is a very dangerous individual who put many lives in danger just because he couldn't stand to lose. It wasn't funny when Yami Marik and Yami Bakura hurt others, and it wasn't funny there. Noah pretty much sacrificed his own life to stop him. Attempted murders can be played for laughs. That isn't the case here.

Besides that, I know many people with actual abusive parents. So excuse me for taking issue with a tasteless joke. Trying to write it off as somehow funny when it really isn't doesn't help. Nor does ignoring when I made it clear I didn't really find it funny, it just was better presented as a tweet than the poor way it was done in this thread, and I worded it poorly. Apologies for that.

[up] That just showed to me he's nothing more than a monstrous individual who doesn't care about anyone but himself. I found that as a very serious thing, especially with his attempted murders. I saw nothing remotely funny about what he did.

It's fine if you disagree, but please don't try to downplay his horribleness with those kind of excuses. None of that is actually funny, no matter how badly they tried to make it. He's entertaining with how written properly he is for what abuse is accurately, but that isn't the same as actually being funny.

Regardless, let's move on. Since this is going nowhere and I feel extremely uncomfortable that anyone is defending this as a joke.
