Still surprised that such a relatively small group has a thread here, among the likes of Chugga and TFS.

Do they read the forums? If so, hi Ryan, I'm Lily Lopears from the Discord.

They used to read the main tropes page but unfortunately some people on here started to turn it into dunking on members they don’t like and despite attempts to clean it up the crew likely won’t bother reading this site again.

And I started this thread as I really enjoy most of the commentaries I’ve watched.

That's basically what all their comment sections turn into as well.

"Of course x member's opinion is wrong as always" and stuff like that.

Yep. Granted, it’s typically more civil. But some commentaries can get ugly (like Sonic Mania).

Sonic commentaries in general for the channel tend to get ugly sometimes.

I specifically mention Mania as Ted was definitely a contrarian in that one.

Though the SA 2 revisit was also pretty ugly.

Hell, even in non Sonic commentaries, any mention about Sonic can bring out the heated discussions, such as the "Is Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckles two separate games or one game that got chopped in half?" blowout in the Resident Evil 2 remake.

That one was also a Ted being the contrarian moment.

I know we shouldn't be bashing or complaining about the Brainscratch members but I don't get why Ted has the urge to be a contrarian for its own sake. It seems like it strains his friendship with the others whenever he feels like taking a stand to be the opposite of whatever's talked about.

He just simply has a different opinion. Now I don’t get why he argues despite the others proving him wrong.

Granted he could be smiling when he argues and he might be joking.

It's easy to indicate a joke without changing your tone...

Going to throw out that while they have a thread here, it's really slow. Consider that there's only 216 posts over 7 years and 3 months.

I actually see where Ted is coming from a lot of the time, even if I don't agree. He's not "being contrarian" or "trying to strain friendship", he just has his own opinions and doesn't care what other people think?

This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. Everyone dogpiles on the members just for having different opinions, and makes bizarre wild accusations over shit that really doesn't matter at the end of the day.

The banter is literally why I like the channel, they just talk like normal people instead of trying too hard to be funny like most other gaming channels. I assure you, their differing opinions over literal video games aren't "straining their friendship", being able to talk about things and respectfully disagree is what mature, functional adults do?

I am not sure doing the equivalent of "no u" isn't really the mature way to have a discussion if you're serious about having an actual discussion. You keep saying everyone else is "unfairly" dogpiling, but Ted keeps doubling down every time someone disagrees with him or offers a counter point and he gets annoyed/upset to the point that Lewis or Johnny have to tell Ted to chill out long enough for them to explain their points.

It's my opinion that Ted gets too heated at times and that can sometimes make the commentary kind of difficult to watch. Aside from that, none of the members need defending from dogpilers or what have you. They're grown men. They can handle their fans and detractors just fine.

Idk, Ryan's admitted on his Discord that it's hard to keep going when it seems like no one enjoys what they do anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the others were similarly burned out.

Yeah going “they’re adults they can handle the criticism” when it’s often been proven that the internet’s negativity can overwhelm plenty of people is not the way to go.

The Sailor Moon commentary's looking good. It's nice to actually get some fresher takes on the franchise in general.

Yeah, I’m enjoying that lp. Really wish it could get an official localized release.

I also 100% agree that sometimes all the negativity just weighs you down. Some negativity a person can take, but eventually even people who can take a lot of negativity can get weighed down.

That said, I don’t think there’s a solution here.
