DC Comic's "Titans"

Well it just started its fifth season.

Yikes. They still have some months to go before it premieres so maybe they can Suicide Squad it up with recuts and fixes.

Why not postpone it and let Young Justice S3 be the launch series for the service? DC needs winners right now, Aquaman and Shazam look promising but they can't flub one single thing.

Jesus christ, no. Just let the show be what it is instead of trying to be less edgy and mutilating itself with reshoots.

I'd rather the show go all in trying to make something gritty, even if people think it's "trying too hard" or whatever that means, rather than try to "fix itself" like Suicide Squad tried to do. That's an identity crisis waiting to happen.

Aquaman and Shazam could still bomb and DC probably isn't giving up. Wonder Woman's been their only major success thus far and we're talking bout 4 films with their A-listers already.

Man I might have been able to defend Dawn cutting a knee to disable a guy cause She's pragmatic but you only rip a dude's face off when your trying to make a body count.

I should say, even in the beginning, Starfire's starbolts never looked like fire. They looked like comic-book laser beams, with Kirby dots and whatnot. Her incinerating people might be consistent given that, originally, she saw absolutely no reason not to kill anyone who she might be fighting (it's how she was taught to fight, and was a big part of her original characterization) or she might be new to her powers (which is actually how that clip made it look, to my eyes anyhow).

Raven here is a little more like Raven as originally envisioned by Wolfman and Perez, but even then not entirely. Initially she was mysterious and aloof, but quickly displayed her vulnerability; this Raven looks more like the current snarky goth version, but without the snark. Given that even Wolfman was never quite sure what to do with Raven when there wasn't a Trigon story looming in the background, we'll see what they can do with her.

Dick here pretty much looks like they're portraying him as "young Batman," which isn't entirely inappropriate, but still a little disappointing. My big complaint about Arrow (what I saw of it anyhow) was that they pretty much seemed to be characterizing Ollie as if he were Batman (which was really disappointing, as Ollie has a very well defined—and mostly consistently portrayed—personality all his own); it's like they don't know how else to write a non-powered hero.

Eh, it's a trailer. They're trying to hit us hard. I'll keep an open mind.

Can I just say that the comments about Kory looking like a hooker are really fucking offensive? Especially when comic Starfire is basically the poster girl for Impractically Sexy Costumes. Hell, Diop's Starfire shows less skin than Kory tends to show.

Maybe if she didn't look like a hooker, we wouldn't have reason to complain about it in the first place. And what's acceptable for costumes in a comic book isn't so much in today's TV market.

Except it isn't the costume from the comics. It's actually far more modest. Which makes the "hooker" comments even more out of line.

The time she actually wore that notwithstanding◊.

Starfire's comics outfit doesn't look like something a hooker would wear, though, not unless she had a customer willing to pay a lot to act out a cosplay fantasy.

Some things just don't transition well into live action.

Clearly she's putting pressure on his wound, not ripping off his face.

Especially on a television budget. Inhumans has the same issues with wigs, particularly for Medusa. There’s only so much you can do when money is an object.

I can't really see how describing her outfit as looking like something a hooker would wear is offensive given that...well, it does look like something a hooker would wear. It's not about how revealing it is, it's about what image the clothing itself projects. A string bikini would be even more revealing, but it wouldn't project hooker. A vinyl dress, curly wig of a color not found in nature, and cheap-looking fur wrap does indeed project "hooker" because hookers do dress like that, and the image has been coded that way for decades now.

An armored bikini would communicate "fantasy warrior woman" because that's the way it's been coded. I seriously doubt the outfit we see in the trailer is her costume; I expect it's something specific to the scene, and therefore germane to it. I'm sure they were entirely aware of how they were making her look.

The fur wrap and the shitty wig is what gets to me. It's more personal opinion for the first since I don't like fur based clothing, but is it really that hard to get a good wig? Are wigs somehow really expensive in the US?

Apparently so.

That or decent stylists are really hard to come by.

The fact it's coded that way is the issue.
