These... these are beautiful :D Reading another fic at the moment, by Suffering Soldier on FFN, just started, looks like all OC's, set on Omega.

It's got a really good noir feel to it.

I've just started my thrid part of my Fanfic series, post ME 3 as all of them are, trying to do a semi-rationalist approach to reconcile all the events after a "Destruction" choice, with some amendments and my own personal views (which to avoid the destructo conversation that usually erupts, will leave at that!) but i didn't want it al lto be sunshine and rainbows.

Third one will be more political rather than immediate survivor fallout, but haven't posted any chapters as yet. Need to get a balance. For the third bit, most of the main players will be more cameos and background, as I think you can get too familiar.

I mean, how likely is it crazy stuff happens to the same people again and again? They deserve some sort of respite, even if the rest of the universe is still getting a kicking somewhere.

Hello!

If you've seen me around before that's probably because I'm desperately hunting for somewhere I can talk about Mass Effect crossover idea I have to help me iron out some kinks. Unfortunately, the crossover is with Pokémon, and it seems the two fandoms have very little overlap.

I haven't posted any chapters of this fanfic idea yet but I have a pretty decent backlog of me trying to figure it out on my own. After about four documents I realized I need more than one opinion on things because I am not a genius.

If anyone is interested in talking to me about this please let me know. I apologize for derailing any current discussion going on.

[up] I tink this is just the place to raise that topic! Granted, I'm not 100% on the pokemon universe, not anymore at least, but it could be interesting.

Considering pokemon seem to be used for EVERYTHING (Food, labour, transport) alongside normal technology as well, it be interesting to see how that'd integrate into the wider galaxy - would the other races see it as slavery, as the pokemon are clearly sentient; would humanity just be exposed to more creatures they could use (I now want to see what a Varren evolves into!)

Mind you, there are creatures that seem to have a lifecycle - the flying Harvesters have a ground based insect life-stage. And thresher maws seem quite similar to the larger legendary pokemon.

A bugger to tame / capture, I'd imagine though.

You're right! I had thought about the other races accusing the humans of enslaving Pokémon, but the pokémon would be really averse to that in the same way a Drell is angry when you call him a slave. I had figured the pokémon's reason to serve was religious in nature, or practical in some way.

Plus the inclusion of pokémon would create an enormous difference in military structure. Generals and Majors and Admirals, etc, would be foreign concepts to the pokémon world. They go by "Champions" and "Ace Trainers" and "Gym Leaders" instead. From what I can tell, the regional Champion is supposed to be that region's national leader. Like you're only allowed to take the place of the regional Champion if you're willing to take on the responsibilities of running the country.

And if Thresher Maws are registered as Pokémon in the poké ball system, then Akuze would go down a hell of a lot differently. It'd probably just consist of all 50 marines tossing ultra balls at the thing until someone finally caught it or knocked it out with their pokémon companions.

Thing is, what with the rite of passage being at 11 years old, then planetary governers must be all like 14?

Ash Ketchum is probably head of the systems alliance? Or one of his descendants?

Also, aren't some pokemon more digital or mechanical in nature? That'd raise interesting questions with the Geth. And yeah, combine the eezo tech with armoured fighting pokemon.

I assume there'd still be firearms and a few things like that; warfare doesn't seem to be covered much in the pokemon verse. Also, would the Reapers be after humans or Mew? :)

The telepathic pokemon'd also be interesting; and would Cerberus be an extension of Team Rocket, or whichever Team it is this time?

In order:

Since the rite of passage is 11, that probably makes other species really confused. The turians don't let their young enter the military until 15. Seeing the humans let their young enter adulthood instantly around puberty would make them assume humans are reckless or too young and inexperienced.

Probably Steven Hackett could be the Alliance Champion. And the planets all have individual champions too, like Tera Nova has a Champion, Horizon has a champion, etc. And they all have to be at least 11 years old to run the country.

Porygon is the most interesting case, along with Golurk. Those are both CONFIRMED artificial intelligence pokémon, created by humans to assist them. They're treated like any old regular pokémon, but how far does their sentience go? We know that Porygon has programming, so it'd literally just be an A.I., but what about the Steel type? They're more akin to Mechanical Lifeforms than A.I.

The Reapers would probably be utterly BAFFLED by Earth's ecosystem. Having not one, but 719 sentient, space-faring creatures would make it almost impossible for them to harvest Earth's species in any meaningful way that I can come up with. What would the Reapers do?

I think it would just be Team Cerberus, like Team Galactic/Plasma/Magma/Aqua/etc. Perhaps there's some kind of stigma with the whole "Team X" naming system over the years? Like, originally "Team X" was just a way to denote an idealistic group of pokémon trainers, but over time it was used by villainous groups and terrorists, so now nobody who wants to be taken seriously would DARE named themselves "Team X." Cerberus might take on the name "Team Cerberus" as a way to reclaim the word, constantly trying to remind people of how historical Teams like, I dunno, "Team Health" were founded for morally good reasons?

Or perhaps Team Cerberus has no doubts about who they are and just use rhetoric for recruitment and explanation, but anyone with enough intelligence knows they're just another villainous team out for human supremacy.

I wouldn't reduce the ages of characters, maybe have them be their ages in the games, but have them have held their positions for ages? So Hackett is still OLD but has been a champion for years.

The military structure'd still be needed for ships, but Shepards band of misfits would fit the pokemon tv show approach to the travelling party.

I think, what with the specifically created "Pokemon" in terms of AI and mechanicals, the Quarians would be immediate kindred spirits with humans, so you could take a swerve in the cannon there - plus it'd be an interesting change of theme, seeing as some of ME's themes are a fear of synthetics and the assumption that AI is always evil.

Team Cerberus could be a good spin, trying the whole PR thing, but with a competent Team. Also, Miranda and Jacob could make interesting Expies of the Usual Team Rocket duo, but competent instead of comedic?

Hacket being a champion for DECADES sounds perfect actually. Everyone respects him because nobody can defeat him.

Why do you say that the military structure is necessary for the ships? Do you think the Council would impose it on humanity, or would they just want to emulate the galactic standard?

I do have this idea that EDI is a Porygon, and given to Jeff as a gift, either after he graduated flight school or after he rejoined the Normandy by ME 2. She's been bothering him ever since the beginning, but she's genuinely interested in keeping him healthy and efficient. I thought it would be cool if she was a regular Porygon in ME 1, a Porygon 2 in ME 2, and a Porygon Z by ME 3 after she tried to interface with EVA. She's not built to do that and got a little loopier after that happened.

Miranda actually interested me as an experiment in IV Breeders. Some competitive players like to breed their pokémon to get the "perfect" one, to make sure their invisible numbers are the highest possible. I figured she'd fit right in to the pokémon world as an example of a human doing that with their own children.

Just to point it out, I don't think that pokemon world lacks military :p I mean, X & Y's backstory(even if that is alternate reality) DOES have war and stuff

Speaking of alternate reality stuff, doesn't Oras have Steven make reference to stepping down and making Wallace the champion? I don't have exact quote though..

Anyhoo, shouldn't other races possibly have pokemon? I mean, some of pokemon did come from space/alternate dimensions <_<

As far as I know about alien pokémon there are only three that come to mind:

  • The Cleffa line, who are said to come from the moon
  • The Elgyem line, from "space"
  • Deoxys, also from "space" and a legendary pokémon

My theory is that the Protheans visited Earth 50,000 years ago, did experiments on some pokémon on Mars, and then were wiped out. Deoxys survived the initial onslaught and is probably immortal, while the Elgyem Line adapted to survive on Mars. Maybe.

As for the Cleffa line, them being from the moon is just an urban legend. They're from Earth.

And the asteroid can't come from Mars? Genuine question.

Well, no. An asteroid is a piece of space rock. Planets usually don't shed pieces of themselves.

The Kuiper belt lies between Mars and Jupiter though.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

[up] Uh, no; the Kuiper belt lies well beyond the orbit of Pluto, it's where most of our comets came from. The asteroid belt is between Mars and Jupiter.

With the Prothean archives on Mars, they certainly could have left caches in asteroids or on moons of our gas giants. Or have pokemon found in Prothean stasis chambers a la Javik.

True. It could b that the Elgyem line were preserved in pods while Deoxys was left behind as some kind of robotic creation to defend the place. Maybe after a time it decided to try and find some more power and figures the best course of action was to go to Earth to get some. But Rayquaza kept pushing it back until it was caught by May/Brendan.

That would mean the Elgyem line would not appear until after Deoxys did, which is fine by me. Deoxys could go to the Data Cache with May/Brendan, technology jump starts, mass relay is discovered, Shanxi, etc.

Asteroids can easily come from Mars or the Moon or otherwise. There are genuine Mars rocks on Earth, despite the fact we've never conducted a sample-return mission. You hurl a big rock at the planet. It blasts pieces of planet rock out at escape velocity. Those pieces of rock drift through space until they find a new planet to land on.

Reaper bombardment of Mars with kinetic-kill methods could have been responsible for spreading Mars-based creatures to Earth if you're going for maximum irony.

That would be pretty cool, though I already have an idea for how Pokémon exist in the world while keeping the pokémon lore intact.

Basically, the Inusannon in the midst of Reaper Invasion created the artificial, incredibly powerful life-form Arceus. But it was too late for it to be of any help, so they tossed its inactive form (its egg) into a mass relay to get itself lost.

Eventually Arceus' egg landed on Earth about 100,000-90,000 years ago, and Arceus was awakened. It was impeccably bored though, so it decided to play around and create companions for itself, i.e. its "children" the Legendaries.

Life goes on as normal until the Protheans start butting into Earth's business and get yelled at by Rayquaza. Protheans manage to snag some strains of the virus Pokérus and do experiments on it, eventually resulting in Deoxys. They manage to take some live pokémon (though not without casualties) and run experiments on them too, up until the Reaper invasion happens.

Any other ideas about how this goes down? I feel like the backstory itself is solid enough, but the actual plot would need work. I still don't know whether Shepard would have a pokémon or not (and if they do, I'm leaning towards a Scrafty with the Earthborn/Sole Survivor combo and Shepard with a different one).

I just finished the second chapter and about half-way done with the third chapter. Just in case, I'll post what I have so far, including a character sheet for the Courier.

Introduction Chapter One Chapter Two Chapter Three (incomplete as of this post) The Courier's character sheet

Also, I got a page for the series. I would appreciate it if others would contribute to it. smile

Would it be alright if I post the synopsis for A New Day here? It starts on from the second chapter. The reason why is because I don't think the fifth chapter turn out well. It might spoil the plot, so I thought I should ask.

While I have played a Fallout game before, it didn't interest me enough to continue playing the series. I do like that Mass Effect crossovers are more common than I expected, though! I wish the best for your series, Mr. Nord.

And I agree, the pokémon world is much more intricate and full of potential than most give it credit for.

[up] Why, thank you!

I haven't caught up in your Mass Effect/Pokemon crossover, so I won't say much about it. However, if I happen to find some interesting ME fics, mainly good ones, I'll post them here along with the occasional updates for my series. Again, if you have questions or ideas/suggestions for me, let me know in the forums here or in a PM.

My pokémon/Mass Effect crossover doesn't yet exist at the moment. It's in the stage where you throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks for now. While I've figured out how the backstory works out I still need to find a better footing for the First Contact War and how that would affect the ME 1 storyline before I can even begin to make any kind of plot.
