[up][up][up]I wonder if the work culture will shift toward demanding celibacy or childlessness as an unofficial bar on higher positions. Since Japan's culture is not going to shift away from "company over family" any time soon.

The problem with that is a lot of high level positions are passed down through blood.

Sooo....

Honestly with the right push you can probaly shift it.

Such as unions.

Japan is one of the few countries I know that hates unions as much as the USA does.

.... soooo, that would be a problem.

And as we all know, countries that hate the unions the most are the ones that need them the most.

What, are they planning on helping Xinnie take Taiwan? Or are they scoping out Japan for a rematch?

Yea uhhh even before Ukraine my money would have been on the MSDF given little thought the Russian navy gets.

Now I am pretty sure it would end with the MSDF sitting around waiting for a fight to happen while the Russian navy self immolated.

Well, protests are still growing in the ROK. Most are near the Japanese Embassy.

Honestly, I wish people get up in arm this badly for industrial wastewater or whenever oil spill (or the more rare military waste spill) happened.

... it would make way more sense too because those are actualy dangerous unlike this.

...

Guess thats why they don't

If the radioactive water was so safe, why don't they keep it in Japan and use it for things like irrigation?

Because its just going to run off into the ocean any way if you do that? Its not like the nation isn't an island.

Because its not like the salt in the ocean doesn't neutralize radiation even better? There is a reason that the Kursk a crushed sub with a leaking nuclear reactor that had nuclear weapons aboard cant even be detected 500 meters away from it.

Because its not like the ocean isn't so unbelivably massive that the runoff wont even amount to a drop in a bucket.

Or that the radiation levels are so low that you would have to stand in the water for a week to even get the radiation from a single international flight.....

Our nuclear saftey inspector flat out offered to drink tea made from the water on TV to prove that it was safe.... I honestly wish some one had taken him up on the offer, it would have been hilarious.

[up][up] It's still going to end up in the big, open ocean one way or the other. I mean you do know about the water cycle, right?

... They kinda already do, and the things they dump in are substantially worse.

But like, this is no worse then returning seawater to the ocean since its not there isn't naturally occurring nuclear reactors on the planet any way, and they are going to be leaking way worse.

Its kind of like fishing, there is a level of usage that is safe, and a level of usage that isn't safe, this is not enough radiation to be unsafe especialy once diluted.

[up][up] Of course not, but being fine with this doesn't mean being fine with everything. That is a poor strawman.

Besides, the water has been processed and is safe now. This isn't Chernobyl's elephant foot. Not to mention, the Japanese themselves will be the first to be exposed and consume the water like what make you think the Japanese government want to poison their own people in front of the international crowd?

Living in Taiwan, I'm pretty sure this will affect me as well. But not in any significant way.

Fuck, I'm pretty sure I expose myself to more radiation just from using all of my personal electronics each day.

You expose yourself to more radiation from the sun every day....

Assuming your not nocturnal.

Well, I do try to stay indoors as much as possible. Hence why I get more exposure from electronics.

I don't think the Japanese government will poison their own people this openly and directly, tho. Like I understand if you don't trust the Japanese government that much or nuclear, but that nuclear wastewater not only has been treated, but it'll enter the ocean sooner or later either directly or through evaporation.

We have been disposing nuclear wastewater safely for years at this point as well.
