Epic Rap Battles of Historyyyyyyy!

I actually mentioned on Reddit how I hope ERB uses a medium that isn’t live action citing how luke vs harry was done in stop motion.

Now my hopes for a full animated episode are high.

If they do a 2D animated episode, it should be with classic comic/cartoon characters, like Garfield vs Snoopy, or Popeye vs Betty Boop. Mickey Mouse vs Bugs Bunny.

A lot of ERB spinoffs use 2D or 3D animation pretty readily, especially Freshy Kanal.

Honestly, I found that pretty underwhelming. Wasn't necessarily bad, but just felt kinda hollow, they could have done better with the same concept.

I'm fine with animated battles in general, but this feels weak. Given the source material, bad suits would have been more accurate. The visuals felt a bit boring for most of it, I feel like since they're using animation they could have done more.

I'd personally prefer a terrible rubber suit for Godzilla and stop motion for Kong as a nod to their early appearances, but I can understand how that might be difficult to pull off.

Has been stuck in my head all week. I'm surprised by how much I liked this one, when I went into it expecting it to be mega-cringe.

At first glance I thought they were both cheap CGI (I think I've seen animatic reels with better 3D animation), but then there was a Godzilla verse where I thought he might be a physical puppet until I saw both of them in mocap suits at the end. The effect was generally better for Godzilla in my opinion, but it's always going to be easier to be good enough with scales than good enough with fur, and the uncanny valley comes into play a lot harder for gorilla faces than for lizard faces.

Whatever vocal effect they put on Godzilla ruins the whole thing for me sadly. I don't want to have to focus that hard to hear the lyrics.

I had so much fun writing the page for "Guy Fawkes vs. The Joker"
