Like, I probably couldn't figure everything out from the cryptic bullshit Maleficent says, my advantage is that, as someone that played the games, as well as the author, I already know what's actually happening. Sora doesn't have that.

And Kairi.

I mean, first she's going to suplex Lexaeus into Zexion, and then she'll fight Riku because she thinks he's either Repliku or Ansem or both, and because what looks and sounds like Naminé is telling her to.

The thing is, they saw Naminé in the Larxene fight. Because Larxene brought her to that.

After they norted themselves and each other, Larxenort forced her back into the dress, and then beat the shit out of her for daring to touch her memories as Elrena, trying to make her nice.

And then Larxenort brought her to the boss fight.

There's a jump involved between "our memories about Naminé are being fucked with" and "this Riku obsessed with Naminé is a fake" and "Naminé is the one fucking our memories" and "Naminé is the one that out the memories in the fake Riku".

Those are.

I know the leap in logic is true, and like, you might be able to figure it out, but.

...In meme turns.

Sora Donald and Goofy have one brain cell and only Goofy ever gets to use it.

Sora, Riku in Kairi have three brain cells, and, except for the first game, because your brain on Darkness is like a fried egg, Riku gets two, and Kairi gets the third one.

Sora has a lot of emotional intelligence, but like.

Again, I'm not entirely sure how well I'd personally do on figuring this shit out on my own without it being spelled out to me.

But even if he doesn't figure it all out right away. I think a more cautious, reserved, distrusting Sora, still going forward because, like, he saw Naminé covered in bruises, of course she's in trouble.

But, like.

What happens might not changen but how and why and the general attitude and feel and reasoning and motivation might.

I think it'd be fine to have Sora be a bit more aware and perceptive within reason. There -are- times where Sora is allowed to be clever, and you're right that games like DDD and III often overlooked that. So, for him to show that side would be really refreshing.

I also totally approve of Kairi suplexing Zexion into Lexaeus. Competent Kairi is so good in my book! :) This is all shaping up neatly, from the sound of it. Gotta remember to look at your stuff sometime.

Something that randomly crossed my mind while talking to another fic author (Regiss), but Atlantis has a ton of potential for a KH world. Like, the king could have been around during the days of the Keyblade War. Maybe even known the Master of Masters. We don't know much about the rest of the big, united World outside of Daybreak Town, and I think there's room for some fun lore there.

But I'm a sucker for incorporating the Disney worlds more directly into the KH story. Shame the games don't do this very often.

I'm not sure I buy the idea that Kairi is the smart one that some seem to go with.

Or, rather.

She might be better-read and better at math than Sora, and even Riku.

But she's.

KHIII failed in every single possible way with Kairi.

But in KHII, she sees Sora's in trouble, and jumps off a balcony into a pile of Heartless, before she has her keyblade, in a miniskirt.

She is absolutely not the reasonable responsible patient deliberate one that thinks things through.

And I wouldn't even call it arrogance or confidence like when Sora or Riku do dumb shit because I don't think whether she can win or if she can do the thing successfully even enters the thought process.

...So, I have a bit where Maleficent claims she can get into the Chamber of Waking, and she wants someone to meet her there, but the thing is she's bluffing, and I don't know how to get it across.

EDIT: Also somehow something snuck into my notes of Maleficent and Pete basically adopting Vanitas and I hate that I love it so much.

They drop him off to the Keyblade Graveyard like a pair of soccer parents where also Maleficent's ex is the coach of the team.

She just sort of acts on an immediate impulse, huh?

I'm curious about how I envision her. Very intense in her more passionate moments, I think, though I'm not really sure what the "default" state is for her? I don't like straying too far from canon, but at the same time, canon doesn't give us much to work with.

She's always seemed pretty introspective, though, which I like - I've done a bit with that in some stuff I've written in the past. I also think she has a playful side to her, which I'd also like to draw more out of.

I do think "acts without thinking" is a good trait. Hell, I'd say that even Sora isn't "quite" that impulsive? Like, I think Sora usually goes "Alright, bring it!" or something like that when a fight's about to start, whereas I'm not sure Kairi will even wait that long? I might be forgetting some stuff about Sora, though.

I also think that all of the Destiny Trio have their deepseated fears, and Kairi personally fears being alone, which might in turn draw out a fear of what will happen if they fail?

What do you think?

As for your Chamber of Waking idea...hmm, not sure. Who's she speaking to in this scene? Also, apologies if I missed this, but how does she know about the Chamber in the first place?

I mean.

I'm just running with Maleficent being a fucking time traveller, because while I feel like I know Nomura won't do anything with it, I absolutely can.

As in. I have no idea if she'll meet Lauriam, Elrena and Ventus in KHUX, but I'm just gonna have her know them. Again, because I can.

She has power over sleep, which is the most poorly defined thing, but. I weirdly like.

The key part being "perhaps", of course.

Hm...could it be Ven that she knows about, and not the Chamber of Waking? Or would the protection on the Castle make her unable to, like, sense him?

Sensing him is probably easier than reaching him, I guess.

If she ever does get him, it's by literally tearing the castle apart.

Which, mind, she might do by accident even, because even the cracks have cracks in her first castle, and KHI Hollow Bastion is in disrepair too.

She's bad at castle maintenance.

And I'm worried people will think I'm saying Maleficent met Strelitzia.

When, no, the idea is that she only heard of Strelitzia and knows she's gone, and is literally just bringing it up to be a dick.

Which, I like as a petty character beat.

Er, not that Maleficent did kill them, just that.

Small, personal evils are also effective.

I think you should be able to get it across enough if it's phrased in an obviously mocking way.

Like, "'I trust that Strelitzia is well?' she asked with a sinister grin," or something like that?

Posted this in the red flag thread by mistake. Not sure how that happened, but anyway...

This is kinda tangential, but it looks like someone on AO3 is mass-reposting their old fics from somewhere else, and some of the character tags are giving me flashbacks to those character-fusion OCs from DeviantArt circa 2007. I’m not sure if they’re using those characters or if they just have the same names, but either way, I did not expect to see them ever again.

As far as actual recommendations go, this is sweet and really well-written, and also it made me cry last night.
