VC 2 and 3 actually have more modern artillery.

In VC 2, enemies can and will call in artillery strikes on you. Audrey does it a lot, since her tank is actually equipped for it, mortar strikes will be called on you if you're found by searchlights in Yuell and sometimes random places are shelled for fun and profit. Always by the enemy, of course, you never get to use artillery. Or an actual Valkyria.

In VC 3, however, you can install artillery turrets on your tanks. Also, while it has the same enemy artillery stuff from VC 2, it also adds in areas of the map in which you will be constantly bombarded as you move through.

By the by, aren't the Lances used by Lancers pretty much glorified RPG launchers? I mean, the basic Lancaar Lance even looks like an RPG-7. If they could figure that shit out, they ought to be able to figure out a Bazooka.

Unlikely. Lances are their own bizarre shit and really look nothing like most RPGs (though they're probably just as hard to aim, for very different reasons though; Lances are poorly designed ergonomically, the RPG-7 and its descendants don't fly straight due to their motor behavior), and stuff like "fin stabilization" doesn't appear to occur to them. Given the absence of aircraft, and hence the relative absence of stuff like "aeronautics" the VC universe's understanding of how shells or rockets interact with the air around them is probably limited. Hell, ballistics as a proper science didn't exist until after WW1 and there was still plenty of room for people to make massive screwups in it until the late 1920s or early 1930s. (The poor design of the Nelson-class battleships' guns was partially because British ballistic tests produced improperly interpreted results.)

You've gotta remember that Lances were most likely designed by someone who had their aesthetics in mind more than their usefulness. Doyle says so, at least.

It's probably the same guy who thought that putting big ass glowing weak spots on every kind of fortification was a good idea.

Everyone's been made stupid by inhaling too much Ragnite. I mean, they thought a giant ass tank with equally giant ass radiators was a good idea.

But in all seriousness... we can't quite know for certain what they were thinking when they designed it, but you're probably right with regards to their knowledge of ballistics. Considering that the basic weaponry everyone's equipped with is beyond shit (to the point it's difficult to hit with it at goddamn Point Blank Range), it's very likely that, despite it being 1935, their technology is lagging well behind what we had by 1935. In some respects, they've got better options - their battlefield medicine is insanely more efficient than ours due to the fact that all that Engineers really have to do is just throw Ragnaid at their problems and their tanks can take a shitload of punishment... though that might just be Lances being shitty tankbusters - but for the most part their weaponry is vastly inferior, and a lot of it has many, many design flaws. I think most of their rifles don't even have iron sights.

Incidentally, upgraded Lances are better anti-infantry weapons than they are Anti-Tank weapons, since they're accurate enough to reliably get headshots with and deal a very large amount of damage, comparable with your average Sniper Rifle shot. Sadly, no Ludicrous Gibs.

I do remember in the AS forums that we talked about the idea of potentially what would happen if Selvaria met Welkin and never met Maximilian, which meant potential for a Welkin/Selvaria story.

Or she, y'know, rebelled at the point Maximillian ordered her to be a suicide bomber.

I mean, you should probably put up with a certain amount of shit from your Love Interest, but there was a point where he needed to stop and by then he was clearly past it.

She's kinda... got reasons why she's so devoted she'd go through even with that order. You might as well thank Clementia Forst- Foers... however the hell her last name is supposed to go for that one. Selvaria will have Undying Loyalty for whoever saves her from that facility, be it King or Peasant.

The same "oe" like in Dutch "Boere"?

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.

I don't know if her full name is pronounced like that in the English version...

Given that I was busy trying to figure out Aliasse's nonsensical personality change from "Insane Blood Knight" to "Pacifistic Green Thumb" and thus couldn't pay attention... I can't remember how they pronounce, if they pronounce it, in VC 2. I remember that she is introduced, by the Headmaster IIRC.

Here you can hear Förster being pronounced correctly in German. I don't remember if it was ever pronounced in the game at all.

Damn. The story I linked here before is dead.

OTOH, VC 4 is already out.

With VC 4 out, it has some interesting worldbuild stuff, especially on those centering on the Atlantic Federation and research on fielding modern Valkyries.

So i thought of two What If? VC fanfics: What if Selvaria was able to escape the Valkur Research facility she was raised, found herself in Gallia and was found and adopted by General Gunther? My idea is that Selvaria grew up with the Gunthers where she became fond with her adopted family, where she and Isara love each other like sisters, seeing Welkin as the aloof brother and admired and respect her adopted father. In honor of her father, Selvaria joins the military and later study abroad at Vinland or Edinburgh, and would later formed a Gallian special forces unit just like the Atlantic Federation Ranger Battalions, with many soldiers in her unit being those who join the Nameless in canon. During the Imperial Invasion, she has to deal not only with incompetent Generals like Damon but also tries to come to terms that does she love Welkin like a brother or something more when she notices girls like Alicia, Juno and Audrey have a crush on him.

In my other idea, based on the British Polish units that were formed after the fall of Poland during World War 2, just after Squad 7 was formed and drove off the Imperials from the capital, Gallia gets a rude surprise when the country gets invaded by three different Blitzkrieg attacks led by Maximillian's siblings and their armies, isolating and separating most of the Gallian forces. Squad 7 along with other surviving units, realize with support cut off, they cannot defend the capital and decides to do one desperate gamble: ask the Kingdom of Edinburgh Navy for help by helping them escape via the coast. Edinburg agress since Princess Cordelia will also join the escapes which they hope might led to a political marriage between her and the Crown Prince of Edinburg. General Damon, in a fit of craziness, thinks he can beat the Imperial reinforcements with the remaining forces he has, leading to Captain to kill him and take over command while Prime Minister Borg is arrested by the Gassenarl siblings after they learn he was going to sell out his country in exchange for keeping his position as PM. With one unit staying to hold off the Imperials, Princess Cordelia, along with several surviving Gallian Forces and civilians go into exile to Edinburg. Sometime later, the Royal Gallian Army of Edinburg is formed, made up from the surviving Gallian forces and volunteers who escaped before the fall of Gallia, who join the war on the Federation side in order to free their homeland. The fanifc will be from Isara's POV where the 7th Platoon of the Royal Gallian Army of Edinburg, led by Captain Welkin Gunther, goes on joint operations with Platoon E of Edinburg Rangers during Operation Northern Cross.
