So... Dumb question, here, but:

Does anybody know any other place where people can discuss this webcomic? This place is alright, but it doesn't seem as conducive to discussion as the locked comments section was.

I've done a bit of searching, myself, but this is the only place I actually found that was both dedicated specifically to Poppy AND not dead for, like, half a year. I was tempted to make a subreddit for this purpose, but... I don't particularly want to link my account to anything "furry" and I'm too scatterbrained to keep two separate accounts, let alone moderate on one of them.

Can't really think up of any. /co/ threads are a constant flamewar with the vore fetishists.

[up]You mean people pretending to be that? Cause if you been to that place for very long, you start noticing most revolting posts are just people pretending.

When you've been to some other places, you know there exists a significant number of people that are really like that. Although sure, Poe's Law still applies.

The end result is the same - threads aflame.

[up]It always happens the same way. If something gets popular enough to get at least weekly threads, those will be flooded with... ehem... ****posters. The more popularity, the more ****posters.

It's like nobody here reads this webcomic. It's like nobody here likes it.

Which is not a bad thing.

Just a sad thing.

There's not a lot we can really do to make it more visible, unfortunately. It's already showed up on Reddit, and Morbi already frequents /co/.

The only other practical avenue is within the Furry Fandom... Which I'm guessing Morbi would be ambivalent towards at best. He seems to try to distance himself from it as much as possible (which is probably for the best, regarding commercial viability), especially its more... Controversial elements. It appears he used to have a Fur Affinity account, but it's been deactivated.

All this coupled with the fact that there isn't really a good/official place to discuss the comic strip-by-strip, it might not grow as fast as we'd like.

[up]It's not that I want to promote it (I am, anyway); it's just that I am really confused. If something is really good, how come more people don't like it? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

It could be the "fur factor," for one.

It could also be the comic's sudden spikes in seriousness in what began as a relatively-lighthearted webcomic. Morbi seems to delight in "piling on," as it were.

The main character belongs to a species that is nigh-universally discriminated against? Alright, gotta have that conflict to start us off; understandable. I'm sure she'll show everyone that it's wrong to hate.

The species is incredibly disadvantaged by the fact they're completely unable to use magic in a world that requires magic-use to function? That's definitely a challenge, yeah.

This species also has a ridiculously-short lifespan because of the lack of magic, meaning that your 23-year-old single mother will inevitably orphan her daughter at the age of 9 or so? That's... Oh. I'm feeling a bit sad, now... And Poppy herself was an orphan. Right, that's understandable. Oh, God, Morbi, please don't end the strip with Poppy's death...

Vaguely hinting at mass-lynchings and possibly genocide of said species? Oh, Christ, Morbi...

A guard gets fucking murdered in front of a child while the murderer continues to choke out her mother? Oooooh...

The murderer is the sole survivor of her own species? So, more genocide..? Ooooh, boy... You always meant for Flora to be a huge Crapsack World, didn't you, Morbi?

Mysterious "gift" for the queen, who is said to now be undertaking a secret project? With the heavy "Princess Euphemia" vibes I was getting from Queen Darling, this is going to take a turn for the heart-wrenching, I'm sure of it...

Poppy's daughter is already getting the "possum" treatment despite (or perhaps because of) her talents? Well, I guess it was bound to happen...

Her "friends" reveal that they actually hate Lily and Lily finds out, along with getting a serving of "you'll never amount to anything in life" on top of that? Morbi, whyyyyyy.

In short, with all of the background presented... Reading the strip can be a bit of a downer. Granted, I'm not a particularly well-adjusted individual and tend to keep the "dark" plot points at the front of my mind as I read.

I'm not entirely sure where I was going with this. Um, so... Yeah. The tone can feel a bit schizophrenic at times. Hopefully, this new third chapter can bring the tone back into an upswing.

Sorry about regurgitating all of that at you. I've had a lot of back-up ever since the comment section was locked.

[up]I feel good for you since you feel better.

Also, I just happen to be a fan of cartoony things in heavily dramatic settings, so this comic is right up my alley.

Alright, here's the new page. Interesting. It semi-confirms one of my dumb fan theories.

I'd had some suspicion that Moonshine was an amnesiac "Sister of Magic" from the way she "recognized" Poppy, Morbi's note in the character section that there's "something lurking underneath that one-track of mind of hers, though…" and the fact that she forgot one of the Sister's names. But just being one of her descendants is close enough, right?

[up]Right, it's close enough.

Sorry about all of the spoiler-text. I wasn't sure of the etiquette of discussing possible plot-points/theories, and at the time it seemed like a bad idea to "spoil" the revelation in the linked page before someone had a chance to read it.

And the next page.

I am almost certain we're going to be treated to "racist/overprotective parent" next page, with some accusations of attempted kidnapping thrown in.

And the next one.

Pleasantly surprised by the lack of explosion, and intrigued by the smugglers.

Also, Morbi's set up a blog specifically for the webcomic. We are to send our questions there, now.

Hmmm. I'd figured the war would be between Charlie & Harley's gang and Chicadino's for some reason, but it looks like it'll be between them and the sheep.

At the risk of cluttering the page and scaring everyone away again, I was reading Morbi's blog and noted this one anonymous question that's kind-of spoken to my feelings on the webcomic (minus the whole "minorities partially deserve racism because they do stuff to be racist against" aspect).

I suppose I can appreciate the nature of the "race"-relations better now, but I'm not sure I agree with Morbi's own assessment as to why Poppy isn't "good." In my own opinion, it doesn't make one particularly selfish to care for their family above all else, especially when they only have so many years to spend with them; why does she have to be possum-MLK Jr. to be a good person?

[up]Why do you pay attention to dumb questions? I think they are not worth to bring up or even think about.

Oh, um... I suppose I just like seeing the author's input on submitted questions. Sometimes it's interesting seeing Morbi expound on his world outside of the comic.

But, alright. Never mind.

[up][up] Maybe to drum up some discussion? Even if the question itself isn't all that smart, it still gets people talking.

Re: Morbi's response, I never really noticed the whole "Poppy=not so good" thing. Except when Queen Kit asked her to be an envoy/ambassador, and Poppy flatly said no, but I that that was just a joke.
