Post/discuss fanfics about RWBY here.

The series itself is not quite well known, with its fandom still pretty small, but it is growing steadily, and so is the number of the fanfics. This thread is going to be needed soon or later, so I decided to launch the thread right now.

So, any interesting fanfics you guys read so far?

I'm currently reading this fanfic. It is an alternate universe fic where the setting and characters are in medieval setting, before the discovery of Dust.

It is fairly interesting. I find it amusing that Cardin is portrayed as a nice guy here; the author most likely wrote this right before Jaundice was aired.

By the way, RWBY fanfics are located in the Anime section of Fanfiction.net. I know, it amuses me. [lol]

The story Massages, where Jaune makes an Unwanted Harem out of the female cast due to his talent at giving massages. Very hilarious.

How come I knew one of these was going to show up eventually?

But I digress. Surf and Turf. A RWBY one shot beach episode.

Other Side was written after the Red and White trailers but before the premier, so it's way AU but it's still beautifully written.

Once Upon A Time is a nice little character study piece of RWBY and JNPR childhood.

@ultimont - I read it, and I loved it. It's just fun to read, if you don't think about things too hard. It could also get really raunchy, especially when it involves Weiss...Still, I await for the next chapter.

@mega-dark - Because in every fandom, there are obsessive fanfiction consumers like me.[lol] You know, we should put up a Fanfic Recommendation page.

By the way, I'm working on a RWBY fanfic, featuring an original character. From what I read so far, fanfics featuring OC entering Beacon tend not to received very well, for understandable reasons.

What are some things that one should keep in mind when writing a RWBY fanfic featuring an original character students?

So far I got:

  • Don't make them overpowered, especially in comparison to the main teams.
  • Give them clear motivations.
  • If you are making a team, make sure to give them creative weapons and combat abilities, in a way that can work great when they work together, like RWBY and JNPR's fights in ep 8.

What else should one keep in mind?

If you're going to make it heavily OC focused, give a bit of warning before hand. That, and just try to write them well.

Now, a question -

If I cross RWBY over with The Four Lords, does it count as an OC fanfic? Or a cross over? Since technically The Four Lords are 'published' and have been around since before the first RWBY trailer?

Pardon this such an early double posting, but I have a minor announcement to make.

Now the fanfic recommendation page for RWBY is up and running. I would appreciate if you guys post your recommendations in that page. I would have done that myself, but my computer isn't running very smoothly. Thanks.

Aw, son of a gun. I should have thought of this.

Perplexed by the amount of fan fiction for such a small universe.

Contribution: RWBY vs RE6. I was stumbling through fics and the premise caught me, it's a crossover between RWBY and Resident Evil. Seems pretty one-sided, but it's different.

So, I worked on the outline of my RWBY fanfic, featuring an original characters team.

The team is titled Team STRM. Why? Well, you how so far all the team names have R in it? RWBY, JNPR, and CRDL? This was really the only word I could think of that has R in the third place.

The team members' names are based on famous people from highly specialized fields that start with M.

Shughart Hayha

A 19 year old security contractor (read: mercenary) working for a subcontractor company of Schnee, which is one of what Blake described as "questionable business partners". He was sent to Beacon, first because Hunters in general are high in demand, even to the fields that doesn't have to do with Grimm hunting, and to keep an eye on Ruby. Also, the president of Schnee asked (well, not personally, but through his boss) him to assist Weiss in any way he can.

His weapon is called Treuen Hund, a designated marksman rifle that can be split off into two machetes (or a war axe, not too sure).

Tiger Pettis

A 17 year old graduate of Signal. He is incapable of using Aura, Semblance, Dust, anything. As such, he is highly dependent on his weapons and his martial arts skills. But that's okay, because he absolutely loves, loves, loves getting into fights. In fact, one of the prime reasons for him becoming a Hunter is because he can go full out against Grimm, without any care about hurting them. He frequently challenged Yang, but guess how THOSE turned out.

His weapon is called Ferrum Tabernus, a pair of iron boots that come all the way to his thighs, with magnum attached on his heels (think of Bayonetta and her gun shoes). It's pretty similar to Yang's weapon, only on foot.

Ricardo Tesla

A 18 year old graduate of Signal, and a childhood friend of Tiger. Initially he considered going to a regular university to become a mechanical engineer. However, with Tiger's brashness causing so much trouble, he figured that he should enter Beacon with him so he could stop him whenever he goes too crazy. Also, he loves new, fancy gadgets, and Beacon is full of them.

His weapon is Spiral Trident, a spear gun that can also turn into a drill. I'm not too sure about his weapon, actually. I don't know, a Plasma Cutter? tongue

Montalcini "Monny" Larrey

A 17 year old graduate of Sanctum. She was traumatized when she saw someone getting mauled brutally by a Grimm. Ever since that she has been a bit of a scaredy-cat, as she describes herself. She decides to enter Beacon, so she can overcome her fear and to save as many people from Grimm as she can.

Her weapon is Kerykeion, a staff that can turn into an air gun that fire either medicine rounds or Dust rounds.

How do these sound so far? And no, don't tell me that execution is what matters, I know.

Woohoo, the next chapter of Massages is out!

Not too sure about this one. Funny parts were good, but the serious moments feel a bit overdone.

[up][up] Someone completely incapable of using Aura means he can't reinforce his body, so he's going to have a hard time using an ungainly weapon like gunboots and die the first time he gets hit. And not using Aura or Dust means you have to operate on realistic physics, making you the lamest of the lame.

Having your original characters be special snowflakes and violate the rules of the setting is a fantastic way to destroy reader interest.

[up][up],[up]Maybe it's a anti-Grimm robot that is actually looking forward to do his job. It would be spoiler because someone is planning to make more to use in his/her nafarious purpuses, or because another robot like him went evil.

I'm just going to say it. I won't be working on this for a while; I decided to not to work on any fanfic with a long, ongoing plot until there are enough episodes that the setting is more properly established, like at least season 2 or 3.

The reason why Tiger can compete against, sometimes even surpass, fellow Hunter/esses without being able to use Aura?

He is a Humanoid Grimm.

Humanoid Grimms are powerful and intelligent (relatively speaking), but still unable to use Aura, variants of Grimm whose form can shift into human. Tiger was sent into human world as a sleeper agent at young age and taken in by Ricardo's family. Although he grew up with human family, because he is a Grimm, there are some things he can't do, such as feeling natural human emotions. To make things worse (or not), there was a mistake during his transformatino from Grimm to human so he doesn't know that he actually is a Grimm.

As such, he is an avid media consumer, be it movies, TV shows, books, whatever, so he can at least imitate human emotions and personality. In addition, he can feel real emotion when he gets into fights. This drives him to be a massive case of Blood Knight, getting into fights whenever he can, making him a troublemaker. As such, he resorted into fighting and killing Grimms (Yes, yes he is), because he is ordered by both school and his (well, Ricardo's) parents to not to get into fights with another human being unless academically required (like that fight duel between Jaune and Cardin in ep 11).

Tiger entered Beacon so he can be a Hunter and fight more Grimms (for this reason he barely, just barely managed to behave himself), and one of Ricardo's (many) reasons for entering Beacon is to make sure that he doesn't cause troubles. His interaction within Team STRM culminates him to gain humanity more and more, and helps him cope when he realizes what he really is...

...such is the original plan.

But, like I said, I won't be working on this for a while, so who knows, maybe I might discard this idea. -shrugs-

Hmm. It seems that among top 5 most reviewed RWBY fanfics, three of them focus on Jaune, making him much more competent and popular with other female characters. I can't say I'm too surprised.

I was just browsing through some new stories. Then I found this fic.

Oh. Hell. YES.

Moczo is now writing RWBY fanfics! For those of you who don't know who he is, he is a very talented (well, at least in my opinion) humor fanfic writer who wrote fanfics like Uninvited Guests and Chaos Theory.

Oh man, I can't wait for this guy to write a long fanfic.

It's amazing how quickly fanon popped up from the first 3 episodes, when all we knew was that there were four girls, a school, dust, Grimm, and bad guys.

I expect that ep 15 and 16 will make the number of fanon and fanfics increase substantially.

Oh man, this fanfic was just hilarious. This is the first RWBY fanfic that actually made me laugh out loud while reading.

Man, Moczo sure delievers. He only wrote two RWBY fanfics and they are already my favorite RWBY fanfic.

...It's kind of sad that there are lack of quality fics in this fandom for now. I guess the lack of episodes doesn't help. So far I think at least half of them are shoddy stories featuring OC teams. I think this fandom had enough of those.

Chill dude. It's only about 4 months since we got actual episodes. You'll probably see an upswing when the first seasons end and the writers come out of the woodwork as they go into withdrawal.

Edit to remove arrow as it was pointing to a post that appears to be no longer there.

(I'm going to keep posting here the fics in the recommendation page, since people who edit and visit that page is not necessarily a visitor of this thread)

This fic is pretty cute, funny, with a bit of sexiness thrown into it. The fact that Ren X Nora and Jaune X Pyrrha sleeping separately might not make much sense, though I'm guessing it's probably because the author wrote the story shortly after ep 8 was released.

I like the author's explanation/guess on why Nora likes pink so much. The ending was also pretty darn hilarious.

So, is anyone here writing any RWBY fanfic?

I'm currently writing one for Na No Wri Mo challenge, a fic featuring OC (yes, writing fanfic is allowed). When the fic is done, I'm going to polish it and publish it on Fanfiction.net.

It's going to feature an OC team, though, so it's not going to get much reviews. Oh well.

Normally, it is always ideal to use canon characters only, but this...story and the theme I'm thinking about, I'm not too comfortable applying them to the main characters. Whether if I admit it or not, this would probably be built on fanon, even if partially, and you know how fragile fanon can be in front of canon.

I wonder how long the gap between ep 16 and Volume 2 will be.
