Oh no, he's a pedo (not like he doesn't creep on adult women too) and his actions are revolting. I don't think you're really meant to see where he's coming from more so than understanding just how messed up a person he grew up as. He has shown a propensity to improving quite a bit, but his creepiness has yet to be really addressed or punished because no one knows what he thinks (though he was forcefully seperated from his childhood friend due to codependence cropping up that they decided to nip in the bud), whether he'll ever be punished for said creepiness, dunno.

My own issue is clarifying misconceptions, if you want to call out it's shit don't twist what actually happened that's how misinformation spreads.

And here's the thing. Rudeus was created deliberately to be an Anti-Kirito of sorts. Before him, most other isekai protags were blatant Kirito ripoffs Black Hair, Handsome, Stoic, Overpowered as hell from the get go E Tc. The only ones who really stood out before him were Momonga from Overlord (a skeleton man who was transmigrated to his new world, not born in it) and Subaru (For physically looking like the type and expecting himself to be said type, only for him to realize that he isn't one of those Kirito types at all). Rudeus broke the trend by originally being a fat 34 year old loser, and actually being actually reincarnated into his new world as a normal baby and not transmogrified from his home world (Tanya would also do this, but its not focused on as much in favor of her trying to stick it to god)and the fanboys of SAO and other ripoffs like it originally didn't like it, but the author persevered.

The series would be the number one rated Novel on the site it was posted on(Shosetsuka ni Narou) during its entire run, included all the others that came before and after it for years even after it finished, and even now its still the number 3 most viewed novel on the site, 6 years after it ended in webnovel format. Basically, while Isekai existed before it, Mushoku Tensei made the niche genre online into a mainstream genre in Japanese entertainment, and it shows. Hence, why its the Godfather of Isekai, more specifically, Reincarnation styled isekai, as opposed to merely transported styled isekai.

I think a lot of Isekai after Mushoku Tensei take the ideas about an extremely flawed MC and run with it without giving the MC the needed motivation or development, thus defeated the whole purpose of having a flawed MC in the first place and what left is a lot of unlikeable jerk.

Fun fact: Not only are Re Zero and Mushoku tensei's authors best friends online (Alongside Konosuba's author) but they even influenced each other's story.

Subaru originally wasn't gonna be as unlikeable in Arc 3 of his series, but Mushoku Tensei's Rudeus influenced Subaru's direction towards starting From Zero, and Mushoku Tensei's more dramatic moments in its later story was in turned in fluneced by Re Zero's more dramatic moments from Arc 3 onwards.

There is a thing of making the protag too flawed.

Okay like sure having the protag being previously a slovenly selfish neet who’d rather watch prom than go to his parents funeral is a decent terrible start.

But having said porn be child porn is going way too far in the other direction.

Funny, that’s the first series I thought of when I saw the whole "following the reincarnated protag throughout the years" premise. Though the two protagonists come from very different places − Arthur is an absurdly perfect bishie and total bro, for one (though he has his own subtle flaws).

Yeah, that’s… a bit much. I mean, I’m sure there are people like that, but claiming like Gigguk that it’s "what the other isekai protagonists should look like" is just unfair.

I'd say that's a misunderstanding of his words. But defending this series is honestly a massive pain in the neck, so I guess I'll end that there
