[up][up][up]That's an interesting idea, and the kind of friendship problem this show likely does not want to tackle. In Equestria, there is no such thing as a friendship of convenience or proximity, and friends never grow apart, or are considered bad for allowing it.

Optimism is a duty.

if I had a horse or pony I would totally put a jumper on him/her. I don't think you can jumpstart them like that. We don't have individual Harry Potter film pages. Oh, well serves them right anyway. Especially the awful third movie.

About Gameloft's School Raze event, I worry less about the character balance of the three characters on the store, and more about where the fuck is Smolder in the loading screen.

It's got Twilight because of course its gotta have Twilight, Cozy which makes sense, she is the big bad, and then the young si- sorry, the young five. And also Terramar. WAT.

Oh, Gameloft, wtf are you doing...

Finally watched "End in Friend". Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Glad I waited for S8 to end up on Netflix, though. Searching for third-party sites that streamed it was getting to be a bitch.

Well, 17 down, 9 to go. Might get caught up one of these days.

"The End in Friend" is one of those episodes that has no earthly right to be as good as it actually is. Its premise sets you up for one of the worst episodes of the season and then it spins around and nails you with entertaining shenanigans, likable characterization, and fun.

I've often said that execution matters more than concept, and episodes like "The End in Friend" are exactly what I'm talking about. A solid execution can make even some of the worst ideas engaging, while there is no story premise clever enough to survive a bland and unenjoyable follow-through.

What story you're telling is often not nearly as important as how you tell it.

"The End in Friend" was a fun enough episode. The first quarter or so made me want to slap both main characters upside the head and Twilight's scheme felt uncomfortably manipulative, but the body of the episode was fun and entertaining. Not sure how all that ends up balancing out, to be perfectly honest.

Man when was the last time you watched them? They changed the format a few months ago on Steam Train so that all 5 grumps can play(like Arin, Suzy and Barry or Ross and Barry).

Sucks for Scott Pilgrim. Though since he ordered through Amazon.ca (what's the website for that?) he at least gets to have Ramona as his delivery person.

Though that's some impeccable timing, considering a new smash is out and everyone's going apeshit over it.

Scott Pilgrim v World was such a great movie.

Out of curiosity, I read the books later, and it was also interesting seeing how they differed. The books got a lot darker and less comical towards the end, and also had a lot more character development and so on. It feels like the movie is the first book style wise, plus the ex-fights from the rest. I think the movie also had a better version of the Todd Ingram fight.

It's my favorite movie, but I do have a lot of issues with it.

Like totally glossing over Scott's issues with alcohol for one. And also totally writing out Lisa.

Also movie Scott and book Scott are two completely different characters. Which isn't a bad thing, but it compounds with some other issues i have with the movie.

The biggest thing is that the actors do a really poor job of acting out the book. Whenever the movie doesn't follow the book is when the movie is really, really good and funny. But whenever it's following the book it just feels and sounds really awkward.

Also everyone in the movie is a WAY bigger asshole than they are in the book. Which isn't a bad thing, again, but it makes everyone a lot less empathetic and makes a lot of the lines/tone from the book not work very well.

But like once it hits about the halfway point and the movie starts doing its own thing entirely, then it gets really good. Lines don't sound as forced, the pacing starts working better, and the movie version of the characters are able to be themselves without being constrained to the book versions of the characters.

I also totally agree that the Todd Ingram fight was so much better in the movie. I'm pretty sure O'Malley remarked on wishing he wrote the Todd fight better, too.

But beyond all the the SFX are so fucking gorgeous. I can't ever get over how good the movie looks SFX-wise. The music is so perfect too, and the entire soundtrack and SFX work together so well. note  It's also a cinematographic masterpiece- there are a ton of small and important details and themes hidden or placed in the background.

It's just. so good. but the books are still better, like hot damn

I love the movie. It's delightfully quotable, it is not quite as good as the books, but it's still great, and it's the perfect nerd film. However, I do miss Lisa, and I do kind of wish the filmmakers gave Scott and Kim the same history they had in the books, and I'm still convinced that Ramona was the wrong girl for Scott, but that doesn't make the movie any less of a great movie based on the books to me.

On the topic of "Gameloft, WTF are you doing," Twilight gets equipment that upgrades as she levels up, and that she can keep as an outfit she can wear once the event's over. It's a cool little mechanic they introduced with the new RPG level-up battle system for story events.

Her first outfit is Clover the Clever's cloak. Then she gets a couple wizard outfits, and her final upgrade is her Star Swirl the Bearded costume for Nightmare Night.

Like. I get what they were going for, and I don't think they meant to imply that Twilight's ultimate potential is a pale imitation of Star Swirl. But. Like. They kinda implied that by making her Nightmare Night costume into her most powerful gear.

Having the Star Swirl costume in there isn't bad, but her final upgrade should have been, like, her royal coronation dress or something. Something Twilight-y.

^ I'm not entirely sure how impactful it'd have been to have Twilight's best upgrade be this one dress that she wore for one scene one time. The coronation scene was an important moment for her, but the dress itself was just... kind of a side detail, I'd argue. It had a minor appearance in that one scene and never showed up again. There was a major moment in Twilight's life, and then there was the outfit she happened to be wearing at that point.

If nothing else, the cosplay appeared in two episodes, had focus drawn to it in the scenes it appeared in, was present in multiple scenes and had Twilight specifically explain why that particular choice of outfit was important to her. Plus, magic has always been a very big deal for Twilight, so I can see how the developers might have thought to refer to that with the most obvious wizard outfit she wore in the show.

Is this about Phoenix Wright? Because there's a recurring gag about him and Maya Fey about whether a ladder is a ladder or a stepladder.

If it has to do with Phoenix Wright, it could be referring to Turnabout Storm, the PW/MLP Crossover fanwork thing that was really good and ended several years ago.

I'm not sure. From what I recollect from when I saw it in...2012 or 2013?

I still can't really keep myself from being surprised that this piece of entertainment began in 2011. When I saw that crossover, I had the preconception that it was already far too mammoth for me to take in all at once.

I recollect that it had a couple of loose ends that might have been vital such as how Celestia knew Wright or what that mysterious..."scheming", for lack of a better word, that Celestia had with a mysterious person (I think? I'm not sure) was for, or why the true antagonist of the crossover looked so similar to Mia Fey, Wright's mentor.

I mean, I barely really recollect it so that it might be more entertaining then I recollect but one of the more vital Watsonian questions for a crossover is "why it's happening" and I don't think that it gave a quality answer.

I'm not saying it's garbage because of that but it's a vital question.

<.< I'm used to Ace Attorney cases being excessively long. Playing the games always leaves me feeling like, "Jesus, it's 3 in the morning. BUUUT it looks like this case is wrapping up. This is the final cross-examination. Once I nail this, I can go to bed."

Six hours later

"HOW IS IT STILL GOING? Oh my god, did they just bring in a NEW witness?!"

I watched a L Ps of the first game, and the bonus 5th case dragged on FOREVER. I think it is the longest case in the entire series, and it didn't have the narrative tension or compelling villain to carry it like the 4th case did.

If I recollect that crossover correctly, it had two times that you had to go back to the room and three people were cross-examined: Fluttershy on day one and Gilda and then the pony resembling Mia Fey in day two.

1-1: One day and one person.

1-2: Gumshoe, April May and the bellboy on day one and White on day two.

1-3: Gumshoe and Wendy Oldbag on day one, Cody on day two, and Sal Manella and Vasquez on day three.

1-4: Gumshoe and Hart on day one, Yanni Yogi and Larry Butz on day two, Yanni Yogi and Miles Edgeworth on day three.

1-5: Gumshoe, Angel Starr, and Gant on day one, Mike Meekins and the elder Marshall on day two, and Ema, Gant, and Lana on day three.

2-1: Gumshoe and Wellington on day one.

2-2: Gumshoe and Hart on day one, Morgan Fey and Miney on day two.

2-3: Gumshoe and Curls on day one, Acro on day two.

2-4: Gumshoe, Oldbag, and Andrews on day one, Powers, Andrews, and the assassin on day two. (This one is unique because of the time limit: this has to be over in one day and after day one, Wright gets only one more day.)

3-1: Wright and Hawthorne on day one.

3-2: Gumshoe, Luke, and Ron on day one, Ron and Luke on day two.

3-3: Gumshoe and the perverted elder on day one, the chef and the "shark" on day two.

3-4: Gumshoe, Hawthorne, and Fawles on day one.

3-5: Gumshoe, Bikini, and Larry on day one, Iris, the channeled Hawthorne, and Maya on day two.

By the games, the crossover is rather by-the-by: it's not one of the beginning cases so it's not done in one day but it's not one of the last ones of the trilogy, which go on and on as it's the conclusion so a lot has to be done. It's sandwiched between them, when the game starts to get at a steady pace.

Edit: Also, the fifth one in game one? It's a bonus because it was specifically for the ds console. It was not part of the original Gameboy trilogy. It's in the odd place of not actually being part of the games but not actually being downloadable content so it can't be simply "if you want it, get it, but you don't need it" and it has technology the trilogy didn't have.
