Unfortunately, that incident has now made Singaporean terrorism history.
Guy’s a Singaporean Indian.
AFAIK, he isn’t the first guy of non-Muslim origin to be arrested under the Internal Security Act. There’s the first Singaporean Chinese who wanted to fight against IS (likely with YPG). But someone ratted him out.

The Internet is accessible to everybody. Including children. So you see more of them receiving media, information and propaganda from sources that hitherto were mostly used by adults. Also, Wikipedia has a list of reasons why child soldiers exist. I wonder if many of them extend to child terrorists.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt is ridiculously easy to indoctrinate children and teens via the internet. Especially since this is the part of their brain development where absorbing information is easier to do. They're basically little sponges.
Disgusted, but not surprisedHe is due in court soon.
Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam of the Law Ministry said that since the suspect is under 18, strategy is to rehab him.
The ISD credits the strict gun laws since at one point, the guy wanted to get a gun like the one used in Christchurch through the black market. Didn’t work.
He almost got one through Telegram, but backed out since the seller wanted Bitcoin. At that point, he called it quits and used the machete as an alternative.
The suspect was desperate that he considering joining a legit gun club.

The Home Ministry has advised raising the alertness level on all places of worship following the arrest by the ISD.
Canada has put the Atomwaffen Division, the Proud Boys, The Base and the Russian Imperial Movement on it list of terrorist groups (along with 9 ISIS/AQ linked groups).

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. There's been intel out of DC that some people spotted a Canadian flag being at the Capitol, suggesting the presence of Canadian Proud Boys.
There were South Vietnamese and Imperial Iranian flags flown on Capitol grounds as well, for whatever that's worth.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)And if I recall, Rhodesia and Apartheid South Africa flags as well.
Typical far right assortment.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.A reminder that with the arrest made in Singapore to stop a far-right inspired attack, shops that sell knives are doubling efforts to police their customers.

Update on the Begum case via Reuters.
Shamima Begum left London in 2015 when she was 15 and went to Syria via Turkey with two school friends. While there, she married an Islamic State fighter. She gave birth to three children, all of whom died as infants, and is now being held in a detention camp in Syria.
She was stripped her of her British citizenship in 2019 on national security grounds.
Friday's unanimous Supreme Court ruling overturned a decision by the Court of Appeal last year, which had held that she must be allowed to return so that she can have a fair appeal against the citizenship decision.
"The right to a fair hearing does not trump all other considerations, such as the safety of the public," said Robert Reed, the President of the Supreme Court. "If a vital public interest makes it impossible for a case to be fairly heard, then the courts cannot ordinarily hear it."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed the ruling, his spokesman said, adding the government's priority was "maintaining our national security".
Begum's case has been the subject of a heated debate in Britain, pitting those who say she forsook her right to citizenship by travelling to join the militants against those who argue she should not be left stateless.
Human rights groups said Britain had a duty to bring back Begum and others in similar straits, and prosecute them for any crimes they may have committed, rather than leaving them abroad.
"Abandoning them in a legal black hole – in Guantanamo-like conditions – is out of step with British values and the interests of justice and security," said Maya Foa, director of campaign group Reprieve.
After travelling to Syria, she lived in Raqqa, the capital of Islamic State's self-declared caliphate, where she remained for four years until she was discovered in a detention camp.
She is now in the Roj camp, run by Syrian Kurdish authorities, where the U.N. rights experts said this month conditions were "sub-human".
Reed said Begum's appeal of the citizenship decision should be put on hold until she was in a position to play an effective part in the case without endangering the public.
"That is not a perfect solution, as it is not known how long it may be before that is possible. But there is no perfect solution to a dilemma of the present kind," he said.

A mass stabbing incident was reported in Sweden and Swedish LE Os are calling in a terror attack.
Remember what I (and some peeps) said that the next terror suspect could be arrested from within?
Yeah, the guy's a Muslim who got radicalized over the internet and he hates Israel with a passion and supports Palestine.
He's doing his conscription with the Singaporean Army. Ane he was arrested by (likely) the ISD.

Another military matter, Canadian military intelligence is investigating Patrick Mathews for his Neo-Nazi connections, especially the Base, although done secretly before he escaped and went underground.
A suicide bombing incident was reported at Makassar at a local Catholic Church. It’s not known who did it. People there suspect that it could be Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.
That's an Indonesian franchise of IS responsible for several previous church bombings, for those following along. IIRC there's another IS affiliate called the East Indonesia Mujahideen operating in the same region (same province as this latest attack, in fact), but they're down to, like, six guys camped out in the woods.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Horrible. Let's hope not another Sri Lanka-style Easter bombing like the one from 2 years ago is coming next weekend.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianThing just happened when Palm Sunday was about to start. If the bombers went inside the church, it would be more chaotic.
The bombing feels weird TBH. I'm not saying it comes out of nowhere. There is always an undercurrent of radical fundamentalism and nationalism below the surface in Indonesia. Not to mention, we cannot use the "This is just someone having a bad day." or "This is just an independent lone wolf." moves here, so it's hard to ignore that.
But, lately, a lot of Indonesian people are kinda getting sick of the religious fundamentalists due to a lot of things, but mostly Covid and the fundamentalist figure heads like Rizieq are kinda pushing their luck and rub their usual dupes the wrong way, so I don't expect bombing like this to happen right now.
Heck, when some news outlet with some questionable political leaning tried to rile up people with headlines like "India shut down a number of Madrasahs!", the people are pretty much just "Oh, I hope it does not happen in Indonesia, too." instead of the usual rage and fury that hopefully make them become cannon fodder and money bags for the fundamentalist figure heads.
I personally think this bombing is a cry for attention to remind Indonesian people and the world I guess that the usual douchebags still relevant.
I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.Plus the Jakarta/Java-centric Islamist hate groups and the actual armed terror groups based in Sulawesi come from entirely different backgrounds, AFAIK. The former came from the the long military tradition of hiring right-wing paramilitary thugs under the New Order regime (look up The Act of Killing), which simply evolved from right-wing nationalists to hardline Islamists after the Reformation. The latter came from the turn-of-the-millennium ethnic/religious conflicts that tore through central Sulawesi, which left a lot of bad blood between Muslims and Christians on the island and left the region awash in weaponry.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)There's confirmation that JAD masterminded the attack in Sulawesi.

Oof. Hope that nobody in this thread happens to be a Muslim living in Singapore.
Also, how come these smol baby extremists are starting out so early? My mum wouldn't even drive me to the St Patrick's Day parade downtown when I was 16.
