I'm just imagining the bridge shooting Godzilla with an enormous pistol.

And also Godzilla staring at the bridge when people are shooting him and thinking "Man, things evolved fuckin' WEIRD while I was taking a nap...."

My various fanfics.

I didn't think the people at the end were cheering for Godzilla. I thought they were cheering because he was leaving.

The people in the immediate area maybe. The people across the world and only know about what happened through the TV? "Woohoo, big-ass dino-dragon just saved America from creepy bug thingys! We know it was him saving us because he decided to leave instead of stick around and trash stuff."

Just saw this last night.

Not a bad film by anymeans though the human characters were rather bland and uninteresting. Cranston and Watanabe are by far the best acted and play the most interesting characters. Unfortunatley Watanbe isn't given much to do and we all know what happens to Eizenberg.

Anyways onto what's really important, the Big G himself. Possibly the most emotive Godzilla we've had yet. I like that bit where after he kills the first MUTO he has a little 'sigh'. You get a feel that the big guy's been around for a while and has the air of a battleworn veteran. As for his 'heroics' I'll chalk that up as being incidental. However I'd like to point out that he likely cause less collateral damage then Superman.

The MUT Os were interestin'. I feel a classic Godzilla monster with a new spin would've been better. Male and Female Rodan's could have worked. That bein' sad I liked the MUT Os. I think they definitely felt like an 'American-made' Japanese monster. Their designs resembled the lovechild of Rodan and Cloverfield. I also like the idea of them bein' animals rather then rampagin' monsters was enforced as shown in the 'nuzzlin' ' scene.

All in all, a strong movie with a promise for better things in the future. If I were to sum it up in one word it would be 'Tease'. It teases a good human character, it teases fights until the very end, and it teases it's sequel that will inevitably be superior.

I do really love that this Godzilla is portrayed like some grumpy old man tired of kids fucking around on his lawn.

Literally.

Oh really when?

[up][up] Yes.

That look he shares with Brody after killing the first MUTO and having a building fall on him for his troubles just screams "I am getting too damn old for this shit."

Hold on - so we say that Godzilla is all "force of nature", but make him actually act similar to natural animals and now it's all "yeah no he's not a big dumb animal?" I mean, he's not a mammal, but he's not exactly a reptile either (unless film said he was a mutated "godzillasaurus", and even then dinosaurs are plenty different from modern reptiles), he's an entirely new type of animal that we know nothing about. Heck, there's advantages to this, namely that it gives you more opportunities to show that your scientists actually know a single thing about what they're talking about.

[up][up][up]On that note. I wonder if he's intelligent enough to realize that humanity may be worth protecting due to being the new primary source of his food. And if by "Godzilla 2", some world governments will consider complete nuclear disarmament in the hopes that it may starve the MUTOS and drive them back where they came from (underground near the Earth's core as already established).

I wonder if it's going to be a guy in a suit or if they're going CGI as well.

healthy combination of both suit (body movements, general appearance, etc.) and CGI (facial expressions, visible muscle contractions, etc.).

Godzilla turns out to be the protagonist's dad? And is very disappointed?
