@Gimme More Toro's edit:

... Cid applied to serve on the Einstein, gaining references from the ship's main Helmsman and Captain.

Er, do you mean the main helmsman and captain of the Dragoon, or the main helmsman and captain of the Einstein? Because of the latter, the main helmsman is Flanker's character and the captain is mine. I can't speak for Flanker, but Jim's back story and Cid's don't really line up well enough for me to say that Jim would have known Cid before serving on the Einstein.

Also, there are other aspects of your character that kind of jar with the setting; a guy who uses a spear as his standard armament on a starship? Without official record of superhuman ability to use said spear, I don't think Earth Alliance command would allow that. Also sticks of dynamite... Just, no.

@Game Spazzer: Well, I think we're supposed to be adapting our characters to fit the setting, not the other way around. This goes for Gimme's Cid as well.

You are reading this.

[up] Crap, confusing sentence structure. I meant the Dragoon's Helmsman and Captain. I've fixed that.

[up][up] Awesome! Unless you were planning on using Advent Children Cloud, I think a suitable change can be made so that Cid doesn't show up in Cloud's life until the Einstein. Maybe pluck him out from around the point equivalent to Crisis Core, and then he goes through his whole character development arc aboard the ship.

Psh. Fuck AC Cloud.

I was thinking of reworking his backstory with several parallels to his original backstory, without meeting most of the people he would have in the game.

That's pretty much what I was going for with Cid as well. I wanted to keep Shera, his basic personality, skills, and fighting style, and the necessary skills/encounters with aliens for him to be able to do his Level 1 Limit Breaks.

That seals it, then. I'll wind up giving him his family at the end of the series so he can at least function as a person and not get half the crew killed in the crossfire when things get bad (because look how well that turned out in the original game without them), but I'll leave several of his Issues intact so I can still have him develop as a character and stuff.

Will make his sheet tomorrow, if anything is available. It's late and I am tired. I already have a good idea of what I will be doing, though.

For the record, I'm pretending Dirge of Cerberus doesn't exist.

  • Name: Rizzrack, nicknamed Timbersaw
  • Age: 35ish?
  • Species: Goblin
  • Appearance: Picture. He's about two feet tall, tops. He's around six feet tall in his suit.
  • Role: Chief Science Officer
  • Personality: Quirky as hell. Can get exaggerated with his statements and movements, and talks very loudly. Is a joker who likes making puns. He is dedicated to his work and often goes days or weeks without sleeping due to it. Not a big fan of that whole "touching" thing. He really doesn't like being on a foreign planet outside of his environment suit due to past experiences, though he's prone to sleep in it instead of his bed as a comfort. Has a 'minor' tree phobia that the ship's psychiatrist might like to him talk about. Or anyone who asks, really, he'll tell you what those trees are up to.
  • Skills:
    • Really smart. He's got, like, all* of the science. As a baseline, he's knowledgeable of several fields that all science officers are familiar with. He's most skilled at biological sciences, like plants and organisms and airborne toxins and stuff, as well as geology, so soil samples, something something volcanoes better be a mission in this game. He's good at smaller-scale mechanical engineering tasks, like fixing/maintaining/modifying his suit, as well as some bioengineering.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Saw Suit: A heavily modified environment suit that is worn to protect the user from hazardous environments, while also letting them rest their short legs as it walks/runs at the same speed as taller humanoid life forms. It has a transparent Transparisteel* 'bubble' that covers the top to make it airtight, and has its own air supply and filters. One arm was altered with a chainsaw for cutting through things, especially plant things, and the other arm has a modified chain winch for grabbing things, pulling things, or pulling itself towards things, with hydraulics that allow it to be launched quite a distance. Also holds water bottles and some food packs.
  • Bio: His early life is a somewhat boring no-frills history about growing up and getting an education and some jobs. It gets interesting after that. He served on the Augury Bay science research vessel, dedicated to classification and examination of flora to determine if planets were acceptable for colonization. One particular tree sample would prove to be their downfall, though, as its toxic spores a rapidly-growing branches overran the ship. By the end of the day, Rizzrack was the only one left alive, and he was locked in a relatively small maintenance area that he managed to isolate from the ship. For weeks, he survived off of nutrition packs as he worked on modifying an environmental suit for his escape using rudimentary tools. Eventually he was finished, and cut his way to the bridge to activate and repair the emergency beacon, landed the ship on the planet the plant had come from, and waited out for rescue and a long awaited bath.
He kept working around for a bit, but applied to the Einstein after hearing about it, vowing that he wouldn't let some strange alien plant kill any more good men and women, and do what he could to keep the ship safe. From plants, at least. Lasers, diseases, explosions, guys with lasers causing explosions - those are someone else's problem.
  • Other: He probably has a Phaser** and a Tricorder** as well, since I would assume they're standard issue. His environment suit also has a Tricorder** built in.

*Not actually all of the science.
**Or whatever you're calling them in this game's universe.

I'm still not sure how to say this race would fit in. I think they'd be more like a small-time race that's got a few planets, not one of those universe-spanning races that want to murder/death/kill everyone else. Is the Earth Alliance like the Federation in Star Trek, in that other races can be a part of it? Like with how the Vulcans and a dozen (or two) other races are a part of it? I'm not sure if the "Earth" part refers to being human-centric, or if it's like how the Roman Empire went on to have more than Rome, etc.

  • Name: Cloud Strife
  • Age: 28
  • Species: Mostly human (he presumes there to be some Vulcan blood somewhere further back along the family tree, is in actuality mixed with something else entirely)
  • Appearance: Fancy Blu-Ray is fancy.
  • Role: Head counselor Chief Communications Officer
  • Personality: Street smart and snarky, Cloud is a Combat Pragmatist, and has nothing against kicking someone when they're down if it ensures they don't get back up again. He also tends to be incredibly stubborn. He values those close to him like nothing else, but will also simultaneously isolate himself, out of his own fear of both rejection, and out of guilt at "dumping his problems" on people he cares about. He is incredibly loyal, however, and will go to any lengths to ensure the happiness of his family and friends. Cloud also despises when people complain about how hard they have it, as he believes that there is always someone out there who has it worse than you, and one should take the time to appreciate what they have for what it is, as it could be gone the next day without warning. He appears rather stern and unmoving, but in fact has a rather dry sense of humour, and does not terribly mind being the butt of jokes, either. He is rather proud of the things that make him who he is, including things that other people might consider odd to even think about, and he is not afraid to be blunt about things, either. He is also rather fond of children.
  • Skills: Cloud is adept at remaining calm under pressure, and has a thing for old bikes and cars as well. He also happens to be rather skilled at working information out of people not best suited to talk, particularly small children, and speaks several alien languages fluently. He is a fairly good actor, a talent honed from lying to people about things that make him uncomfortable. He also makes a mean cocktail, but cooking anything more complicated than a sandwich is guaranteed to end in disaster. He is also a skilled climber and gymnast, and has an uncanny knack for surviving high falls.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Cloud is accomplished at swordplay, and keeps a folded-up blade on his person at all times, to be expanded at any instance of a fight.
    • He has control of this odd bluish light, which he can use for anything from an impromptu torch to backing up the strength of his own sword swings, to compressing it into a wave to hit targets.
    • Cloud is particularly sensitive to forms of psychic/mental feedback, and is able to interact via these means quite easily. However, this is a double-edged sword for him, as this also means he is extremely susceptible to attacks of this method, and would likely be the first to succumb. The deeper he peeks into the abyss, the more the abyss can peek into him, so to speak.
    • Cloud also has a regen factor, able to heal damage over the course of a few moments (small cuts) to several days (near-death), depending on the damage. However, bones must be set before they heal, lest they heal crippled and need to be rebroken, and he is still prone to infection.
    • His strength, speed, and stamina are above average, as he is capable of using that sword in its unfolded state like it was paper.
  • Bio:
    • Cloud grew up raised entirely by his mother on a colony on a nearby planet at the foot of a mountain, as his father left after finding out she was pregnant, not wanting to raise a child. He later died in some accident when Cloud was four. The planet he grew up on was noted for several unusual phenomena — it seems to develop a strange symbiotic relationship with its inhabitants. Its native wildlife already have this symbiosis, but the first-in colonists did not develop it immediately. However, their children were born "connected" to the planet, so to speak, and so was the next generation onwards. The planet grants limited control over certain kinds of energy currents, allowing new advances in technology thanks to this ability's potential to be used as a tool, as well as slightly extended longevity. It has also been known to consciously ward off threats approaching from outside of orbit. In exchange, the citizens are unconsciously made aware of what the planet wants, like a whisper in the back of their heads, and are tasked with its caretaking when no specific commands are given. This phenomenon was at first greeted with a fair bit of alarm, but after extensive study was proven to be harmless. However, many research stations remain active on the planet to this day.
    • Cloud was always rather lonely as a child, and thought himself superior to them, though this was more because he craved their company. When he was ten, he allowed his childhood crush to fall off a cliff, not having the strength to pull her back up himself, and she dragged them both over. Cloud managed to survive with naught but skinned knees, but the other girl was sent into a coma for two weeks, and was not expected to recover. He was framed by the other children involved, and was given the cold shoulder by the people in the city ever since.
    • From then on, he resolved to never be that weak again, and trained himself furiously, where he accidentally discovered his talent with the blue light. He kept this ability secret, as the amount of control he had and energy he could manipulate exceeded any set precedent thus far. His mother, concerned about not being able to send him to college on her own, pushed him in school, making him take a language or two. Cloud himself became quite fond of learning new languages, and signed himself up for more each year, eventually getting himself into a special programme for them. He quickly became an honours student and got himself a scholarship and an invitation to the academy.
    • In the months before leaving the colony, at the age of 18, he was approached by a shady group offering financial support for his mother. He accepted, and was promptly tranquilised and shipped off to a lab, where over the course of two months was genetically modified him with a curious virus they found buried in an asteroid (which they then proceeded not to hand over to the EA or any government body), along with another young man who was there with him. The other man served as a constant source of support, managing to keep him sane throughout the process, and eventually broke them out, stealing some clothes and stowing away on a ship, then bleeding out in the ship from wounds sustained during the escape effort. Cloud, in order to cope with all of this, subconsciously blanked it out. True to their words, the men did support his mother financially during this time, and even included fake letters from him about how much fun he was having being an intern. Cloud is to this day not sure if his mother is still alive or not, having only a vague feeling that something is not quite right, but she is in fact doing just fine. He stowed away on ships for another two years, taking odd jobs here and there of varying legal status to earn money, keeping under the radar for safety's sake, making sure to never ask himself too many questions about what had happened or how he had gotten there. From there, he made it to Earth and resumed his life as it was before. He then manually reapplied to the academy and began studying again, this time only getting in through sheer luck. While initially frowned upon for "buying his way up" so to speak, he was left alone not long afterwards after demonstrating his talent.
    • During his time on Earth, when he was twenty-one, he met the same girl from the mountain in a bar, and they started talking. One night after the bar closed, he sucked up the courage to ask her out, and it went on from there. He has been considering popping the question, but has been skirting around the issue for a while. They moved in together when Cloud was twenty-seven, and have adopted a child, Denzel, who is ten.
    • After earning money as a translator in his spare time to pay for rent, he graduated and was picked up for duty aboard the Seahawk, at twenty-five. He quickly grew bored of the solar system, and applied for the Einstein, where he was accepted.
  • Other: Cloud has a phobia of enclosed spaces and needles. He also had epilepsy when he was younger, though this was corrected early on with surgery. That group is still looking for him, though he does not know it.

Typed this up in a hurry, sorry. Anything I need to fix?

Edited. Also fixed a couple typos and cleared up a logic hole or two.

-Sheets-

@Gimme More Too: Ok, I do have some problems with your sheet. First, I don't think they would allow the helmsman to go on the ship with a spear or some dynamite sticks. Now you might say "but your character is good with swords!" Yeah, but he's also the Security Chief, so there's a justification for why he might get his hands on a sword. But a Helmsman? Doubt it. That's really my only problem with the sheet.

@Stratofarius: Accepted. Welcome aboard, Chief Engineer.

@Sullen: Accepted. Welcome aboard, Engineer.

@Nman: I like him, but ain't seven feet a little too big? tongue Apart from that, accepted. Welcome aboard, Chief Science Officer.

The Earth Alliance is very much like the Federation, in that there are alien races who are a part of it- although most races are too big and prefer to remain just allies.

[up] Sounds alright.

By the way, here's something I've noticed: we've only got one female player character. I know it sounds weird, but I kinda wanna have more female characters. Not because I want to have some sort of romantic subplot, god no, but because I feel like if we want to be Star Trek-like, we have to have more female characters, you know? Have some gender equality.

Also, discussion thread is up!

So you're still accepting characters then? I was wondering if I could sign up as a scientist under the Chief Science officer. I'll pick a girl to get some variety on the ship. I just need to decide on what character to use. Would a Dragonball Z character be too overpowered, even if I severely nerfed them? I just want to know before I start a sheet.

Due to the overwhelming amount of interest, I'd like to ask that players who already have one accepted character wait before posting their second character. This is so all players get a chance to at least get one role in the ship for their characters.

Alright, I have Raz's sheet finished and saved in a document, and am holding off on posting it due to this until it's alright with Bean.

Oh, and if Cid being a smoker is alright, I suppose I should make Jim a smoker too. (I wasn't sure, since in Star Trek smoking is pretty thoroughly abolished in the Federation so I just decided to leave it out.)

Also, in case you already removed it from your watchlist or something, I posted a description of that OC race back in the brainstorming thread so it wouldn't clutter up things here. Or if you already saw it but decided to ignore it, don't mind me.

[up] I'm not sure Goku is smart enough to be a scientist...[lol]

  • Name: Pan Son

  • Age:16

  • Species: Her father's a half-Saiyan and her mother is human, so...I guess she's a Quarter-Saiyan hybrid.

  • Appearance: [1]

  • Role: Scientist (apprenticing under the Cheif Science Officer)

  • Personality: Pan is generally pretty laid back most of the time (for a hybrid Saiyan, that is), unless there happens to be an emergency. She does however, hate to be thought of as a child of any kind, and is willing to go to the extremes to prove her maturity, but this often backfires on her by causing her to make rash decisions. She also has a knack for annoying people when she gets bored, mostly by interrupting their work, but has a relatively short temper herself. Pan has a competitive streak and is a bit of a Blood Knight when it comes to fighting, but is not nearly as obsessed with battling as her full blooded alien relatives.

  • Skills:
Martial Arts Training- Pan has been trained in close-combat since she was three by extremely well respected teachers, and has participated in multiple professional tornaments on her home planet. This has also boosted her reaction time and reflexes along with her hand-to-hand skills.

Knowledge of College Level Sciences and Mathmatics-She may not act like it, but she was intelligent enough to get into college 2 years early (mostly because of her father's motivation efforts), and is working on an Aerospace degree. She is also speciallized in Earth and Space Science, Physics, and Chemistry. Biology and machinery engineering are beyond her though.

  • Powers and Abilities:

Ki Manipulation- Pan can control her energy to the point of using it to move, hover, and fly at high speed under Earth's gravity. It can also be focused into Ki blasts for attacking. Ki is linked to her physical state, so it is weakened if injured.

Ki senses: If she is concentrating on it, Pan can sense the life energy of any living thing in a ceratain amout of feet from her (about a football field in any direction) unless it is deliberately being hidden or suppressed in some way.

Saiyan Strength/Durability: As she is only 1/4 Saiyan, this is nerfed considerably. Pan's entire body structure is much stronger than a human's, and it takes more physical force to injure her than normal. Regular Earth guns that fire bullets will bruise her skin without getting through. Military grade artillery bullets will pierce, but not go as deep. Lasers will inflict regular damage though. She can take the blunt force of getting thrown into a wall (or through one) without breaking bones, but would heavily bruise and knock her out for a few minutes. Getting thrown through an even harder object, like a mountain, would severely injure her. She can lift a car with no effort (on Earth's gravity), and a small, three person spacecraft with difficulty. The E.A. Einstein and objects near that weight would be impossible for her to move. She can survive the vaccum of space for a few minutes at most before she needs oxygen. Her resillience does not apply to magic or mental attacks, only physical force and energy attacks. Pan is resistant to most Earth diseases, but not alien ones.

Sharpened Senses: Pan has slightly better eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell than a human. Not enough to track people by or anything, but enough to give her a better understanding of her surroundings at all times. It helps increase her martial arts skills too by giving her even better timing and reflexes.

High Metabolism: Another Saiyan trait. Things run through her body system very quickly, including food, drugs, and poisons. The downside to this is that she eats more than regular humans on a daily basis.

  • Bio: Pan was born on one of the Earth Alliance colonies based on the planet Venus, where the conditions had already been altered to match Earth's. This planet also happened to be one of the places the Saiyans ended up after their home planet Vegeta was destroyed by an asteroid over 50 years ago. The last remnants of the once powerful Saiyan Empire are now spread across the galaxy, but a few clusters settled in Earth colonies after agreeing to stay on the Earth Alliance's good side and not cause trouble. Pan's grandfather, Goku, ended up on Venus as a baby using a high tech space pod. Raised by an old martial arts master who took him in, he grew up believing he was human until a few other Saiyans eventually came to investigate what happened to him. After negotiating with the government, the Special Intelligence Bureau created a Saiyan branch to accommodate the growing refugee population, funded by the planet's local space program and techonological research center, Capsule Corporation.
The exact place where Pan lived was Satan City, a high tech area on Venus where the main Capsule Corp. office was located. Her family has close connections with Capsule Corporation's president, Bulma Briefs. Her father Gohan taught her to fight at an early age, along with help from her mother, Videl Satan. They also attempted to teach her the importance of getting an education, regardless of how boring she thought it was. Even with her odd heritage, Pan still wants to have a regular life with a regular job, though this occasionally interferes with her desire to fight and help people around the city, especially with petty crime. After graduating from high school early, she entered college for a science degree and found out about the E.A. Einstein. Wanting a break from her dull life in the colony, she got her friend involved in the Special Intelligence Bureau, Trunks Briefs, to recommend her for a job on the ship. Her parents were at first concerned about her going into possibly dangerous deep space, but the fact that she wasn't on the security team and therefore didn't have to fight any hostiles convinced them to let her go. Secretly, Pan is interested in finding any other last dregs of the Saiyan race to further learn about their culture and biology.

Other: For some reason, Pan cannot ascend to the Super Saiyan form like her father and grandfather, no matter how hard she trains or how angry she gets. This may be because of her gender or the amount of human blood in her, but there isn't enough information to know for sure. Pan is also unsure if she can take the Great Ape form, as she possesses no tail and has never bothered to stare long enough at a planet's moon or a substitute celestial body to find out for certain.

You should. They're a culture based entirely around hunting dangerous targets. The way I would imagine it, they would only enter the Earth Alliance with some reluctance, as there would no doubt be some frowning on the traditional Yaujta pastime of chasing sapient game.

How does this sound: the Yautja would ally with Earth, exchanging the benefits of an alliance for grudgingly kept promises of good behavior on their part (limiting their hunting of intelligent creatures only to condemned criminals and whatnot) with the side effect of many Predators undertaking dangerous professions to find acceptable ways to follow their urges. However some friction with less belligerent species is to be expected. Which leads me to...

  • Name: M-di H'chak Halkrath - or Krath for short.
  • Age: 197.
  • Species: Yautja.
  • Appearance: [1]
  • Role: Security officer.
  • Personality: Generally, he exhibits a calm exterior and stern demeanor. However, he lives for the thrill of the hunt and the glory of combat, and strives to test himself and prove his strength and skills against worthy opponents and powerful prey. This is limited to aggressive members of other species - sick, elderly, young, pregnant, etc, will always be left alone. He has no interest in fighting anything unless it's sporting, and will even take pains to even the odds in a fight stacked in his favour.
  • Skills
    • Hunting expert - this entails incredible skill at tracking, remaining hidden and traversing difficult terrain. Ninja-like stealth and agility are a part of this, combined with climbing skills.
    • Weapons expert - skill with a broad variety of weapons, from knives and spears to laser rifles and plasma casters. Trained to adapt to the usage of just about any weapon in a pinch, including improvising them from whatever is at hand.
    • Unarmed combat - proficient in various Yaujta martial arts.
  • Powers and Abilities: All Yautja possess enormous physical strength, resilience to damage, and a rapid rate of healing compared to humans. Their masks allow them to see in a broad variety of spectrums. The masks also allow them to breath in most atmospheres, although they can survive in other atmospheres for considerable periods of time before this is necessary. Traditionally, they carry an assortment of deadly weapons. They possess enhanced senses superior to those of a human. They are capable of surviving in incredibly harsh environments for prolonged periods.
  • Bio:
    • After strenuous negotiations, internal strife, grudging compromises, heated arguments and ritual disembowelments, the Yautja clan leaders managed to finalize their peoples’ acceptance into the Alliance, no more than ten years ago.
    • Much of Yautja society has had difficulty adapting to these changes, being bloody minded traditionalists all round and seeing the restrictions imposed on their hunting traditions as annoying but necessary (at best) or a studied, grievous insult (at worst). For this purpose, Yautja were chosen to represent their species among certain Alliance institutions. By and large these consisted of individuals who were considered old enough to be seasoned hunters mindful of the old ways, but still young enough to be adaptable to the changing universe.
    • M-di H'chak Halkrath was among these. Initially, his inexperience with humans caused some minor cultural misunderstandings (declaring no less than 37 blood feuds during his first week of Bureau orientation) but while much of human behavior is a still mystery to him, he currently understands their basic societal norms enough to get by. He applied to the Einstein in order to gain further insights into the culture of the Earth Alliance, but also because it stood to reason that a voyage into unknown space would present any number of opportunities to hunt dangerous new things...

Super interested. Putting up a bio.

  • Name: Axton
  • Age: Mid-30s
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: Picture
  • Role: Assistant Security Chief
  • Personality: Axton is a jovial man, despite the nature of his work and his previous employment. But don't figure him out as a hero. He's on the Einstein for glory, worthy opponents, and some good pay. Aside from that, he's out for a good time and is concerned for the safety of everyone aboard the ship. He likes talking and flirting with other officers on the ship, and he enjoys a good prank on the others every now and then. Axton also has a strong sense of reciprocation; if he has your back, he expects you to have his. If he owes you, he'll pay you eventually; and if you owe him, he'll imply that you should pay him back. When it comes to relationships with others, he prefers to know people who are as fun-loving as he is or those who know the value of a good weapon and a better fight. He's especially attached to his turrets. Despite the fact that they will just regenerate eventually, he always gets upset when they're destroyed in a fight.
  • Skills:
    • Weapons expert: Axton is a skilled soldier, specializing in the use of two-handed guns such as shotguns, combat rifles, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers. He a capable hand-to-hand combatant, and he carries a hatchet with him for melee combat. He also knows his way around explosives, and is able to get grenades and rockets to do what he wants them to.
    • Turret user: Axton is the most prolific user of the deployed turret. The turret itself is a highly armed piece of machinery, and Axton can throw two of these at a time. Each turret lasts only about 30 seconds before it is automatically recalled to Axton, and Axton only uses them in tight spots. Axton can recall the turrets before their time-out, allowing for a quicker cooldown.
    • Leadership: Despite all appearances, Axton is a competent leader, able to coordinate teammates and give direction during tight spots.
  • Powers and Abilities: Axton has no extraordinary powers, hence why he relies on his shield to protect him. However, he does possess an extraordinary willpower to refuse death, which has picked him up and kept him walking in the face of serious injuries.
  • Bio: Axton was born and raised by a military family, joining the family business the second he could. After fifteen years of serving in the military, Axton wanted to get out of the military and into greater things. So when he proved that he and his turrets were some damn good protectors, he was assigned onto the Einstein as security's second-in-command to Zuko.
