Wait, it IS CG?
Also, I kind of enjoyed the new Pac-man, only because it's one of the only good-looking cartoons on Disney XD right now, next to Max Steel.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceSega has some nice CG for their games, so they could work to ensure the quality is up to snuff.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectJust as long as it's not terrible like Pac-man.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceYa know, I'm kinda surprised by how different the reactions are here than....everywhere else.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.We try to be nice.
I've learned that there's no point to reacting strongly to something like this this early. We have a year.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@ed: SEGA's not making the series, though—it's some obscure French animation company that has done practically nothing else.
Even then, in most of the cutscenes in the games, there isn't much moving anyway. Aside from the action scenes, probably the most moving I can think of in at least the modern Sonic games is Chip fluttering around in Sonic Unleashed which...eh, was okay I guess. When they're not doing action scenes, the animation is kinda bland and lifeless. Hell, I've been watching chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of Sonic Colors lately, and I feel like the cutscenes would be able to sell the jokes they're trying to do a lot better if they would've just loosened the animation a little bit more. (Or maybe if they could have the characters move their eyes more. I cannot get Tails' blank stare out of my head O_O)
Basically, if you're going to make a show in CG, fine, but it better be good CG animation. Don't half-ass it. It's the difference between, say, 'Tin Toy'note and Toy Story 3. Or even, to use non-Pixar examples, the difference between Donkey Kong Country and How To Train Your Dragon. Dragon is one of the most beautifully animated movies in the past decade I'd say. It's definite proof that if you put in a decent amount of effort, you can have good CG animation.
I haven't quite seen any really good CG animated comedies, though. At least, none that rely as much on the animation as they do on the dialogue—pretty much all the good CG comedies I've seen get most of their humor from jokes/wordplay/etc. and very little actually from stuff that would rely more on actions and stuff like that, and I can't say I've seen any that use slapstick well at all. Anyone have any recommendations that can convince me?

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I meant quality control. Sega hires an outside company for their CG anyway.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectJust so you know, not everyone likes Adventure Time or Regular Show, so potholing to those shows means jack-all.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.yeah but generally those shows are considered pretty good
some people don't like Bob's Burgers or Breaking Bad but they're still considered good shows
"we have to get vaccines against hunger"I figured RS and AT were more polarizing though.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.mmm... not really.
"we have to get vaccines against hunger"They both have subsisted for this long, while plenty of other new shows have come and gone from the network. Even if not everyone agrees that the shows are good, there's obviously an audience for them, enough to sustain them for a few seasons at least.

Not a big fan of Knuckles and Sonic wearing a vest is just weird. Amy and Tails look fine though.
Ya know what's sad, if it weren't for Knuckles then this wouldn't have gotten nowhere near the amount of vitrol it got upon reveal.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Honestly, I was meh on this even when it was still just a rumor. I'm willing to give it a chance, but I really am mostly apathetic about it.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Same. I just can't bring myself to care.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Your sarcasm is lovely. I'm not saying they arn't any good, just a really akward choice since I considered the show would be more expected to air on Hub as a 2D MLP-styled flash, or Disney with their Wreck It Ralph animation. At least every episode would look like a feature presentation flick with that style.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceErmahgerd. Why didn't I notice this before?

PS. Why isn't anyone talking about the backgrounds? They look awesome IMO. They look like a real GHZ. Wait a minute... this show isn't gonna go for a realistic approach, is it? I hope not.
PPS. If they make Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy a team in this show, then my childhood visions might become a reality... I hate my childhood visions so badly right now.

boop I'm more active on hereThe Sonic fan film was actually a backdoor pilot for a television series, and this is the result.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.No one's talking about the background because it's a still image. We don't know if it'll look like that once the rest of the product is revealed.
I agree it looks very nice though.
If the rest of the show looks like that, we might have to include an entry in the Visual Effects Of Awesome page.
boop I'm more active on hereEh, it looks good, but not THAT good. That page is meant to list extraordinarily outstanding works. If it's like the preview image, it seems to be about on par with recent Sonic games.

Ha ha! Vindication! I told you I wasn't crazy! ...Er, anyway.
Personally, I don't have enough information to really gather what I think of this just yet. If I saw a clip, that'd help me decide just what I think, but other than that, it's too vague to tell at this point. I was expecting it to be CG right from the start. As for the actual show, if I could just get the cutscenes from Colors/Generations/Lost World extended to about a half hour, I'd be fine with that.
But this better not suck like the new Pac-Man cartoon, because that thing somehow managed to be a million times worse than the 80's Pac-Man cartoon.
