I haven't watched those vids, so I'm not sure exactly who the type of people he wants on there are, but he's The Nostalgia Critic. I'm pretty sure he can get plenty other internet celebrities to be a guest on an interview show with him.

So, about the "top 11 good things about the Star Wars prequels"...

I just wanted to say that I would have placed the scene where Anakin is reconstructed and his breathing apparatus is activated for the first time in there somewhere. Because for all the snarking I may have made while watching those movies, for all the moments that made me facepalm, this scene had me shut up. Because that was what I was hoping to see for decades : the very moment where Anakin dies and Darth Vader comes to life. And it was done wonderfully : no dialogues, no fancy camera moves, only a close up, and yet it's the only scene in the entire trilogy that truly gave me goosebumps.

...

Of course, it got spoiled by the "DO NOT WANT" scene afterwards, but for two little minutes, everything was exactly as it should have been.

Hell, I even like everything up to "NOOOOOO." If he had just screamed, no words, that would have been fine.

[up]My stepmom thought that was the best scene in the movie, too. In fact, she felt it was Hayden's best moment in both movies. Kinda funny how he does his best acting when he's covered in makeup and about to be hidden behind a mask for the rest of the movie, as she said.

I've always thought people vastly exaggerated the narminess of that scream (though his is coming from someone who never found the "IT'S A TRAP" line even slightly funny either). The scene is STILL very powerful, one of the best in the franchise.

I found Episode I to be the most visually impressive, since it blended both CGI and practical effects.

I think the prequels are kind of over-hated. Yeah, the acting and writing aren't great, but Lucas is a phenomenal visual director, even if the action scenes tend to go on for too long.

I think what my position boils down to is that they aren't great by any means, but they certainly aren't unwatchable dreck like people make them out to be. Which happens annoyingly often with a lot of movies now that I think about it.

You know, we were discussing the rise of Julius Caesar in my Greek and Roman Epics class the other day, and the whole event is extremely reminiscent of how Emperor Palpatine rose to power.

Well, Star Wars was inspired in part by the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, which in turn was based on the history of the Roman Empire.

Star Wars as a whole is just an amalgamation of literary archetypes and historical amalgamations. Hell, the whole reason there's spaceship dogfighting in there at all is because (if I recall correctly) George Lucas wanted to make a World War I dogfighting movie.

Well, a lot of famous dictators in history gained power by essentially conning the government into giving them total control. Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler are some of the more famous examples.

He did manage to make that WWII dog-fighting movie, but it's something like the last movie he ever made.

Agreed. Same goes for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Though I wonder how much hate Doug is going to get for taking another potshot at Christopher Nolan.

The internet age tends to be all about over exaggerating the negative

Do the Prequels have Problems of course they do, The biggest being that The Prequels should just be called GL's Fall of the Republic, Part 1,2 and 3. cause thats the focus of the films.

but are they my eyes melted bad... hell no.

[up][up] What was the Nolan gag?

When it comes to the prequels, the only one I flat-out hate is Episode II (mainly for the love plot and the Christopher Lee wasting). I think the reason Episode I gets as much hate as it does is because it's a Star Wars film. It's certainly lacking in several aspects, and Hype Backlash did the rest. Had it not been so highly anticipated, I think we'd view it nowadays as merely "meh." Episode III is fine, although it doesn't really pick up for me until the second half.

Of course, the fact that I first watched all of these with Rifftrax should probably figure into my opinion...

Episode 1's problem is its an over glorified prelude since Episode 2 is where all the character relations that matter happen and begin.

Episode 2 pretty much has to play catch up cause of all the navel gazing Episode 1 did.

I like how Doug liked the pregnancy announcement even if he didn't like how they were happy in love in the next scene. I want to know, how are you supposed to act with your significant other hours after she's told you that she's pregnant? They should probably say something to each other before going to bed.

I think the John Williams score deserves to be higher than 11.5, but I'm biased.

Also, haven't summoned the desire to watch ep III after having watched 1 and 2 to be in the loop for playing in a Star Wars tabletop RPG. ...which was kinda what drove me to finally watch the originals. :P
