HOLY FUCK THAT ANIAMATRONIC

[up] Why doesn’t Disney World get any of the cool toys? (I mean, there's that one animatronic from Pandora, but you see for 10 seconds)

God, it always amazes me to see how far Audio Animatronics have come from the birds of the The Enchanted Tiki Room. (The first ever attraction to use true AA figures, since the animals on the jungle cruise and Nature’s Wonderland operated pneumatically, and were almost purely mechanical, instead of the relatively more sophisticated programming system used by early A As)

Anyone else seen these?

I have to say, I like the look of these. The most radical redesign would seem to be Monterrey Jack, here looking a bit like Richard Waterson from Gumball. If Disney should consider relaunching Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers, I wouldn't mind them going with these designs at all.

[up][up] Those designs are adorable. I'm not too familiar with Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, but it certainly looks like a fun show.

Speaking of the Tiki Room, have you ever wondered how you could connect that to the The Haunted Mansion, and how Disneyland's Adventureland and New Orleans Square can be tied into one overarching story? Well, Offhand Disney has you covered!

Incidentally, Disneyland's Adventureland is getting a Tiki Room themed outdoor restaurant, where the former Aladdins Oasis Restaurant used to be and judging from the Concept art, it looks great. It looks directly over the jungle cruise, so you can watch the boats go by, and will even have the infamous “Rosita” mentioned in the Tiki room as entertainment.

Tokyo gets a Beauty and the Beast ride?!? Lucky bastards.

Hey, Disney, please tear down the Fantasyland Theatre (and maybe Storybook Land Canal Boats for more room) or Autopia to bring this to Cali. I want a ride of one of my favorite movies.

I think they could fit it in California Adventure Somewhere.I agree I want this ride. It's no wonder in the original Stephord Wives that they said the husbands based the robots on animatronics from Disney.

I mean, I don't inherently mind Tokyo getting some of the cool toys because... In my mind, they can develop them in Tokyo, learn from it, and then take them to Disneyland and World with new lessons and do the next step up here.

Like... if I'm honest, could you imagine a re-vamp of Pirates with Anamatronics like that? That level of fluidity, motion, and detail? The village burning scene would be AMAZING.

Or, since we talked about it a page or two ago, take that technology and upgrade Haunted Mansion with those level of animatronics and the special effects that the Hat Box Ghost introduced?

Could you imagine the BALLROOM scene with characters like that? Like, the guy on the chandelier really DANCING around the light piece or the dinner guests grabbing ghostly food or something? Or maybe the dancers wouldn't just spin in place on two rotating platforms, but also spin their partners out and you could maybe even give them personality at that point too. The potential to take that scene to the next level with that AND keep it a practical effect would be incredibly.

And, sure the figures have to be impossibly expensive, but that ride seemingly has a ton of them as I counted 4 different versions of Belle alone (Presumably a 5th or more if they keep the Ballroom dance ending), Beast seems to be getting a figure, and I wouldn't be surprised of Gaston got one too.

That's scary impressive. And, also, way better than the screen face anamatronics they have in Snow White and Frozen.

[up]x2 There's no place in CA where a Beauty and the Beast ride would fit thematically, plus the leftover space is being used for a Marvel land.

Late to the party, but if those were the designs they went for in a theoretical Rescue Rangers reboot, I'd be cool with it.

[up]They're the work of an animation artist who's done work for Disney before. Entirely on her own initiative and not for any project. Still, it'd be nice if someone at Disney'd pay attention; back in 2014 they apparently thought enough of the Rescue Rangers property to start the wheels (very slowly) moving on a movie adaptation. With the success of the Ducktales reboot, it's not that farfetched that they'd consider a Rescue Rangers reboot.

[up][up][up][up] As it is now, the super realistic and fluid Johnny Depp AA, looks completely out of place when compared to the rest of the 60s tech. (I love the new little octopus in DL though)

The Hatbox Ghost works better, I think, because it still uses a lot of the same basic tricks that the rest of the mansion does, and genuinely feels like something that they would have created, had the technology been there.

That's been something that always bugged me about the Jack Sparrow update too. He doesn't fit with anything around him. He's too fluid compared to the far more mechanical looking characters around him, his costume is far more elaborate than anything everyone else is wearing, and he doesn't feel like he fits thematically with the rest of the ride.

I think the reason Hatbox works better is that he's on his own little corner with nothing else really in view to contradict him compared to the rest of the ride. Jack, meanwhile, is surrounded by all the 60s glory of the original ride and just doesn't mesh with it.

Also, hey, if Disney sits back and upgrades a bunch of the old rides with new technology and critical updates to plus everything, that's surely plenty of time for Imagineers to sit around and fully plan and develop what they want to do next without any 'Hey, got to jump on the Frozen Bandwagon. Get it done by next year' or any other distractions. They could theoretically sit back and develop a brand new IP similar to Pirates or Haunted Mansion if they wanted since they'll have all the time in the world to come up with concepts, characters, and gags.

[up] It also helps that he was always intended to be there, and technology has just finally caught up to allow the effect to work. (Flawlessly, might I add.)

I would personally love to see at least the ballroom get an update definitely. Don't get me wrong, the scene is absolutely magical and I love it, but there's totally room for it to be even more awe inspiring than it already is. (Blasphemous, I know.) They don't even need to be on the level of Belle or Hattie, to be a significant upgrade to that scene, since they are sufficiently far enough away to not need that level of detail.

Also, I'm not sure how the pop-up ghosts in the graveyard scene have managed to survive for this long, honestly. They are crude, noisy (you can hear the whoosh of the pneumatic over the rest of the graveyard scene), and are just there for a cheap scare. The pop up ones in the attic were gotten rid of ages ago, for a good reason.

Speaking of things that really need refurbished (or for once, ideally replaced), Disney World really needs to get on top of their monorail.

The current fleet has been in operation since 1989, without any real significant changes or refurbishments, and is really starting to show it's age. The inside of the cars desperately need updating, and There's a lot of stories of malfunctions, doors not opening or closing, and even a door falling off.

There have been recent rumors that they have been looking into replacing them, but so far, nothing has come of it.

(Monorails are just so cool. It's honestly a pity that they never took off, since they are efficient, clean, safe, and much quieter than a traditional train or light rail.)

Look, everyone, I dont mean to be a killjoy but this park talk has almost taken over the thread. Can we do a compromise? Like our posts should be 50% park and 50% Disney Animation?

I mean, I understand the problem as Theme Parks aren't exactly something that have their own section in the forum putting that discussion in some awkward gray area.

However, I don't feel like there's really much animation stuff to be talked about right now outside of 'Gee, that Lot TC reboot is coming to Disney Plus next year' and other things that... kind of feel like not many people want to talk about in great length. Sure, if everyone was talking about the next Disney Animated Line-Up in great detail and that one guy kept interjecting with 'BUT MAH THUNDER MOUNTAINZ', I'd understand how distracting that'd get. But people clearly have thoughts and opinions on the parks they want to talk about and have little elsewhere to put it.

But that's just my thoughts on the matter; take it or leave it. I'll let the group in here figure out how they'd want it.

[up] That was kind of my reasoning for putting it here. There’s really no other place to put it, and this is probably the closest fit. There really isn’t a lot of stuff going on in Disney Animation right now (or at least nothing that doesn’t have it’s own thread), and this is the closest thing we have to an All Purpose Disney thread.

Look, even that hypothetical "Random person bringing up the park" would be kosher by me since animation would still be the main focus. Heck I love the Park talk and Im not a mod to tell people what to do but it has indeed taken over the thread. All Im saying this to do is dedicate 50% of our post to parks and 50% to animation. Like if you have a post of 40 words use 20 of them for parks and 20 for animation.

[up] Is there anything you would like to discuss? We’re just kinda freewheeling I think, and seem to be pretty much open to anything.

We just discussed a list of the best to worst movies in the Disney Animated Cannon, a few pages back, but honestly, there just hasn’t been a ton to talk about in actual animation, as far as I can tell.

I’ve been thinking about how Disney could justify having their own streaming service, and it just occurred to me. What if they used it to finally release their huge backlog of of documentaries, Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/Wonderful World of Color episodes, and other such historical stuff that has never had a home release?

Now that you ask me, Im kind of drawing a blank. But since I'm the one who said it, let me take resposibility. Like Disney Channel is finally going with animation instead of just putting it on Disney XD. And Disney is making two shows Im sure will be super special awesome. Sure these two shows already have threads but I want to discuss them here. And there is a HUGE WALL OF EVERY SINGLE Disney TV cartoon so far on the Disney Studio that is mega awesome.

They called Amphibia and The Owl House. The art is amazing on both and I love them. I know they have their own threads but its an exciting time to be a fan of Disney's TV animation.

To set the example I will also talk about the parks to show Im not a total killjoy. I kinda hated my trip to Disney World actually, though it wasnt the parks fault. It was this REALLY annoying tourist group I want with. The rides I remember the most are the Haunted House and that Honey I Shrunk The Kids One. I want to go to Disney World again and go on my own to not have the experience of a lifetime ruined again. OH AND THE FIREWORKS. And Fantasmic. So amazing.

[up][up][up]. It always annoys me when people say that “2D animation is dead”, because it’s not. They are just looking in the wrong places.

Now that I think about it, in something that touches on parks and Disney animation, Dinoland in Animal Kingdom recently got an overlay, where after finding out that birds are decended from dinosaurs, Donald Duck drives all the way from Calisota to Disney World, to celebrate. Honestly, it looks really cute, and should help liven up a rather underwhelming area of the park. There’s meet and greets with Donald, Daisy, Uncle Scrooge (in red this time), and even Launchpad Mc Quack!

There’s even some subtle Ducktales Easter Eggs (although it doesn’t quite line up completely). In the Scrooge Meet and greet Pavillion, here’s the titles of the books on the bookshelves:

  • Lost Artifacts of the World: an Index
  • Ancient Myths of Ithaquack
  • The Life and Times of Della Duck
  • How to Disarm any Foe
  • The Art of Organizing
  • Scrooge’s Favorite Smells, Vol. 12
  • A Topographical Atlas of Plain Awful
  • The Collected Treasure Maps of Peruvia
