[up][up] The earliest Mickey Cartoons will be in the Public Domain, at least. They still have the trademark though, as they don't expire.

Yeah, it is not like Disney will just "loose" Mickey Mouse. Nobody will be able to do anything with Mickey Mouse, they will just be able to put the early cartoons into public domain.

Unless you happen to live in Paraguay, then you can buy Mickey spices and ingredients for sweets, all while Disney can do nothing but cry because they dont own him there.

That's what you think,if Disney were really bothered they would convince the powers that be that Paraguay is harming their profits and suddenly the long arm of the law extends even to Paraguay.

A youtuber said today that technically, Mickey is 90 years old and A FEW MONTHS, because Plane Crazy already starred him before Steamboat Willie ever got released.

In honor of the day, here is Ward Kimball's model sheet of rejected Mickeys.

For any of you Disney World fans here, am I the only one who thinks the current state of EPCOT Center is really kind of sad?

It was my family’s favorite park, when we went when I was in second grade, in 2007. We loved the edutainment aspects of the park, and how you could actually learn something, while not even realizing that you were.

Now it’s just dated and empty. Innovations West has been turned into a glorified character meet and greet, the Wonders of Life Pavillion is empty, the Imagination Pavillion has been even more stripped down from then, and the Living Seas Pavillion has been stripped of any futurism or educational content. The only thing that is still fine, is the world Showcase, and even that could use a few updates.

[up] Frankly, I always thought that it was kind of boring. The last time I was there (which was back in 1997, mind you), only "The land" and "the sea" really appealed to me. Well, Honey I shrunk the audience was fun, too, but I can see that being kind of dated while I still would do another ride in the land and the sea in a heartbeat. Granted, being European, there is little draw for me in the world showcase. Why looking at miniature versions of stuff which is just around the corner in my neck of the world.

It's funny for a 90 year old character, there is much more you can do with him. It's really good to say that a character that can stay relevant for decades is a good one. The funny thing is originally when Walt created Mickey people thought it was a bad idea because they thought a giant mouse might scare women. And the fact is that Mickey was created because Walt didn't own the rights to Oswald. If he did, then we would have had Oswald ears instead of Mickey ears. And we would have two mascots of two major animation legends (Warner Brothers and Disney) having wise cracking rabbits. When you think about it, it makes you think how Oswald would be against Bugs Bunny.

Since I can't stand Bugs Bunny, I am not a good judge there.

Well he was briefly, but Walter Lantz had tried to soften him up the same way Walt had Mickey, leading to the same demotion (though while Walt still gave Mickey the odd cameo to stay relevant, Oswald practically disappeared from the Lantz cartoons). This was his last cartoon.

Truthfully I'd be interested if they ever bought the rights to Lantz's redesign and pitted it with Mickey's contemporary look. It could work if they 'wackied' it up a little to be more like the original.

I've been watching a lot of Disney World and Disneyland retrospective/list videos on Youtube and it's fascinating how some people can visit frequently. I've always heard the Disney parks expensive—they're the sort of place you visit once and don't visit again for 10-20 years. I always thought that is why kids always wanted to go to them.

On Mickey, Disney needs to do spinoffs or shorts with their Sensational Six more. I remember back in the 1990s and 2000s we had a lot of cartoons but then it fizzled out. It's a shame to see them as just preschooler and merchandise fodder.

Hey. There's the new Mickey shorts, and those are pretty good.

[up][up] Disneyland in particular, has a lot of catering towards locals, since it’s much smaller and less of a “destination”, and even has a regional discount on season passes.

[up][up][up][up]: It took me longer than it should’ve to realize the bunny wearing overalls was Oswald...

Speaking of Oswald, is anything going to happen now that a lost cartoon of his has been discovered? Like, is Disney going to claim it or something?

As a person who lives relatively close to Disneyland, SolCal residents can get a decently priced annual pass that's worth buying if you go at least 4 times a year. You can't go on weekends for the cheaper pass (which sucks because Sunday's a good day to go), but visiting on weekdays isn't too bad if you can fit a 4ish hour trip into your schedule.

[up] Isn’t the more local audiance part of the reason why they have stuff like Haunted Mansion Holiday, Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy, and other seasonal overlays, when Orlando doesn’t?

Speaking of Haunted Mansion Holiday, here’s a good video of the 2018 video.

Hattie has a spring of holly in his hat!

I also appreciate the little continuity nod of being able to see that Hosty is still “hanging around”, in the stretching room scene. (I couldn’t resist.)

You know the type of people would love this type of Christmas would be the Adamm's Family. I am surprised they don't have more crossovers with the Nightmare Before Christmas and them.

[up] personally I would die (pun intended) for a Haunted Mansion based animated show.

There’s a ton of stories that can be told with the ideas in it, but all the adaptations have been weak at best.

It's the OG park and we don't have 5 others like the people in Florida.

Also, if I remember correctly, only Disneyland Tokyo and CA have HM Holiday due to the contract with Tim Burton or something. Creative Liscence. Some other stuff like that. Its a bit complicated from what I've heard from friends who work at the parks though I don't have much to back myself up and for that I apologize.

I believe they DID attempt a Haunted Mansion TV Show and they made a pilot for it, but it didn't get picked up.

[up] That's really disappointing, since it looked awesome.

Like there's just so many half realized ideas and concepts to play with here, and as far as I can tell, none of the official attempts to make something out of them have really been able to do it. Even the Disney Kingdoms HM arc wasn't that great. (The Figment miniseries, on the other hand, was actually really fun and imaginative.)

No kidding. I think a reboot of the Haunted Mansion movie would need to be in work.
