You know, I wanted to use a character idea for an alien RP that never took off, but I don't think it would fit with the jebralgi.
How do we go about having a character from a different alien species? You did mention "others" in the interest check thread. I was thinking about a historian who's been working on the greatest book about Earth history and has been living on Earth (in a disguise) since the 19th century, or if we wanna be a bit more radical, the Middle Ages.
I was thinking of going with just jebralgi aliens, for now, and they are a physically and mentally varied bunch. They're also divided into factions, so it's entirely possible he/she could be a really old jebralgi who splintered from the rest ages ago to live as a historian/hermit. o_O;
But if you want, you could make him 'other' - in which case, just change nationality/ethnicity/composite to 'species', and that should about it.
Thanks. It's actually a race of historians, but you'll see. I'll work on the sheet.
- Name: E'vard X'menar, but he also answers to Edward.
- Sex: Male
- Age: 170- although he looks 36.
- Species: Quiad. The Quiads are a race of peaceful aliens who believe history is more valuable than anything, as learning and teaching about history can help one predict the future. From the beginning, young Quiads are not only taught certain subjects like chemistry and physics, about the history of their planet, the history of their galaxy, and as they grow up, they can choose to delve deeper into the history of certain planets. Some Quiads even get the chance to win a grant that will give them anything they need to live in a different planet so they can chronicle its entire history. Extremely practical and very intelligent, a Quiad's knowledge of history can help you in a multitude of subjects- except fighting. Never ask a Quiad to fight.
- Career/Position: Sorta like a Science/Communications officer. His knowledge of History helps when dealing with other alien species or when investigating more about their threat. Give him a target, a computer, and he'll get to work faster than you can say his name- if you can say his name.
- Appearance: He looks exactly like any Quiad- a reptillian humanoid with 6 limbs (4 arms, 2 legs) and a long (1,5 meter long) tail. He's 2 meters tall and very skinny, with his bright green scales clashing against the blonde ponytail he has. He's usually wearing a suit, given to him by some of the Quiad's allies, that makes him look like a fairly handsome strong human, with blonde hair and blue eyes. The downside? The suit has been broken for a long time, which means that E'vard's human disguise is often wearing clothes from different time eras- sometimes from the 60's, sometimes from the Middle Ages, sometimes from Victorian England...
- Personality: All-work and no play actually makes E'vard very happy. He prioritizes work over everything, and is always reading a book (or two, or even three), even when there's nothing going on. He says that things like "hanging out" fill the mind with unnecessary thoughts, and that he doesn't need friends, only co-workers. However, even with all that, he can still show a much lighter side, especially when surrounded by people he's much more comfortable with (his friends, although he never calls them that): a side that displays his love for classical music and his inability at chatting up lovely ladies. So while some E'vard as a boring alien who only cares for work, his friends know that his human side is just hidden under centuries of solitary analysis of human history, as even someone like E'vard knows that you can't make history all by yourself.
- History: E'vard was a very dedicated child. He would spend his holidays at home, reading four books at once, developing his visual memory, which led to him becoming the best student his school had ever seen. A lonely best student. E'vard didn't care much for friendship, he preferred to sit at home and read about different planets. So when the time came for the government to choose who they would send to a different planet, the first name on the list was E'vard's, and he chose the one planet no one had ever gone to before: Earth. Surrounded by surprised gasps and mutters of "he's mad", E'vard departed to Earth, with nothing but a briefcases filled with books, tools, money, and everything he would need to live a peaceful life on Earth, including a moped which he used to travel around the world (don't worry, the moped had a disguise that made it look like a common vehicle from that era). When he landed, he expected to be surrounded by sprawling civilizations... but instead, he found himself face to face with the Middle Ages. Nevertheless, E'vard traveled across the world, writing about everything he found, but he eventually built his home in the area which would become New Phenotype. He kept traveling across the world, and he kept writing about every major and minor event. And now, what was once a homely little underground home, is now a home filled with twenty-five volumes of his greatest creation, The Complete History of Planet Earth. He is now writing volume twenty-six, which is building up to be the best one, even better than volume twenty-two, which covers the 80's, a period which E'vard loves writing about.
- Other: E'vard loves playing the violin and has a very good visual memory.
ACCEPTED.
Hmm... I get the impression that the Quiads are a bit like Time Lords, in that they're quite advanced but tend to be somewhat aloof, observing rather than getting involved, and simply avoiding rather than fighting threats.
No doubt the 'heroes' of this story will be determined to seek out the 'Quiad of Earth' for his... 'cooperation'...! :o
Also... Something just occurred to me, if he arrived during the Middle Ages, wouldn't he be much older than 170?
Quiads age very, very slowly.
Sorry for the double post, but...
More people need to sign-up for this.
Still trying to hammer out my character concept over here. Don't really have anything concrete yet.
"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyconsidering a signup, don't have much in the way of time right now though )=
I'm curious: why is there a "human" profile if the aliens are there in secret? Are there conspirators in the human race, or will all the humans oppose the alien team?
A mixture - much like the things that inspired this RP (assuming it still goes through - there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest so far) there are both humans who become friends with the aliens, and some who would oppose them and/or be antagonists.
Speaking of which, I should create a profile for some of my characters/major NP Cs. o_O;
My situation's a lot like Dblade's right now: lots of things to do, no time to do it. I'll see if I can post a profile at some point though.
Hmm, hm, hm... What are limitations on Human technology? Alien technology? In particular, I'm thinking about mind-to-machine transfers, brain-in-a-jar stuff, forcefields and power armors.
Also, as I understand it, the aliens we are playing as can be effectively whatever we want them to be, right? In shape, that is?

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.Ah yes, I should specify some stuff!
Human technology is Like Reality, Unless Noted. There might be mild advances in various fields, and the occasional mad scientist or government project, but for all intents and purposes, the world is 'normal'.
As for the jebralgi, their technology is highly chaotic because, much like their genetics, it's cobbled together from a wide variety of sources. And all that stuff - power armours, forcefields, brains in jars and mind to machine transfers = golden.
The jebralgi are like every form of alien invasion in one. That's the point. And yes, they can physically (and psychologically, I guess) be pretty much anything you want. Go crazy. :P
Ooh, fun. I'm thinking some kind of insectoid thing, I'll try to post a profile later on.
Exist, pursued by bearConsidering some kind of Blood Knight or Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy type but don't have many details yet.

After some considering, I have to apologize. I don't think I can keep up with this RP.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often. It hasn't even started. Which is a shame, really.
I guess... I dunno. A lack of actual sign-ups + a lack of me adding more information or writing about major NP Cs probably hasn't helped. I've got my own projects to do, so, um, yes.
This RP is basically dead already. :/
Bummer. Goodnight, Aliens in the City. We hardly knew thee.
Well, I did have a rather fun character prepared, and Saturday Morning Cartoon Style is something I find novel and interesting in R Ps. But then, I noticed that there are enough R Ps where I've been explicitly invited, agreed to participate, and rarely posted. So I decided to limit myself to two R Ps per site.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.
The in-universe bit:
The galaxy is an old and unforgiving place, but it has long held glimmers of light between the darkness. These lights sometimes hold life, in strange and infinite abundance. Of these, the Jebralgi, the Hybrids, were amongst the oldest.
Their cultures had sought perfection, and as their technology advanced, they built great thinking machines, and eventually learned the secrets of the organic structures and their designs. They spliced the blueprints of other organisms into themselves, and replaced weaker tissues with artificial mechanisms. But still, perfection and immortality seemed ever elusive.
As their home world died, they built great vessels - part city-state, part insect hive, part rocket, part invasion force - called the MOTHE Rs. Travelling from world to world, they harvested organic materials and new inventions and cultures. New Jebralgi were built rather than born, by fusing random combinations of genetic material and machinery. None have been able to stall their gradual advance.
Now, they arrive at Earth... but something has gone wrong. MOTHER 0343 has experienced a malfunction, and for unknown reasons she has not contacted the other MOTHE Rs. Deploying a small but varied team of her 'children' to the underground of a large human city, she has commanded them to learn what they can... and with that, she has disappeared.
So this is the story of the 24th away team, hiding underneath the city of New Phenotype, as they seek to learn about, and undermine, humanity's governments, no doubt to prepare the way for the invasion. Of course, along the way they'll have to deal with government agents, other away teams trying to steal their glory, terrorists both human and alien, the monstrous offspring of the mysterious 'Echidna' and, of course, Nazi Mole People.
So! To summarize, you will play as members of the 24th away team who (as far as they know) have been assigned to learn about humanity and undermine its government, so as to prepare for the clearly inevitable invasion. The whole thing is meant to have a Saturday morning cartoon vibe.
