It was warm. For a long time, the weather had been cold and dreary, but it was warming up. Spring was here, and the weather was showing it. It was this kind of weather that heralded the blooming of cherry trees, which meant that a lovely site was soon to be beheld.

Indeed, today was only a day prior to the beginning of the various parties that would be held beneath the cherry trees. School vacation had ended only a day prior to the beginning to the cherry blossom viewings. It wasn't unusual, they were always quite close to one another. However...

SEED was unconcerned with the blooming of cherries, or the return to school after vacation. SEED's focus was on the stars. They had no idea just how much time they had left; the attack could be in a day or it could be in a few weeks. It could even be today. Truly, they didn't have any time to waste.

Those who lived near SEED's base would notice an unusual amount of activity from the monolithic structure. It was a large building, a pyramid-like structure extending from the earth and colored mostly an off-white, with several windows and lights around the side. Recently, there had been quite a bustle in and around the building. And today, several vans had been deployed...

Everyone knew SEED was important, but few people knew just what they were doing.

They would soon find out.

Asami lowered her camera, with a wide grin. A picture of the front of school in the Fall, then the Winter... and now Spring! Wonderful! The Tomoe High School wasn't a particularly large or unique-looking building, but it was Asami's school, and Asami took pictures of everything. She simply hadn't had much of a chance this morning, but now, during lunchtime, she'd taken a quick run out to snap a good photo. It would be the fifth photo she'd taken today. That was less then usual, but there wasn't as much to take pictures of inside the school...

Asami smiled, checking how the picture had turned out. It was perfect! She'd gotten the whole front of the school framed perfectly in the shot. It was undeniable that this was a wonderful, first-rate picture!

Her stomach growled, and Asami paused. Well, it was lunch time, and she hadn't eaten yet... she hurried inside. As she went, she contemplated where to eat lunch... in her classroom? On the roof? She'd think about it more when she got there, she decided.

The water rippled.

Something massive moved beneath it.

And then moments later, it was all still again.

Kaiyu Kirika ran through the campus, mentally going through her checklist. 'Check with student council about fundraisers, done. Organize tutoring sessions for the underclassmen, check. Find someone to press-gang, er, volunteer for taking photos of the cherry blossoms and the viewin field trip...' She noticed Asami walking with her camera. 'Ah-hah!' She ran towards the camera-carrying girl.

~~~~~~~~
Elena felt her stomach growl as she walked towards the lunchroom. She hadn't gotten any breakfast that morning, since she'd overslept and had to walk to school, mostly since she'd had to walk home after school and started homework later than normal. 'Ah... If I fall behind, Mom's going to get angry when she gets back from whatever she's working on...' She thought morosely.
It was Mikoto Yamada's first day at this high school. And... she looked excited enough. Though that might just have been because she always seemed to be in high spirits. The black-haired girl also looked like she had just walked from a shrine, given her maiden uniform and all.
Completely oblivious to any stares drawn by her decidedly-non-school-uniform, Mikoto instead stared with large, entranced eyes at the school for several moments, before directing a question to anyone who'd listen, "Excuse me, where can I find the monument to Inari-sama, here? I'd like to offer my blessings before lessons start."
Which of course, she'd already done three times before even leaving for school. Mikoto liked praying to her deity.
As always when she had nothing to do, Maya Friedlander was walking around Tomoe High School. Today she eschewed her uniform for civilian attire — that is, a purple-brown jacket a shade lighter than her hair over a white shirt and a similarly-coloured tie; a skirt of the same colour over a pantyhose; and shoes not unlike her army boots.
She knew she didn't have any business there, but she really disliked being around so many people decades older than her, and much preferred the company of people slightly younger than her, or at her age. Plus, she found the way the other girls called her 'Furiduranderu Mayia-chan' rather endearing.
Looking this way and that, she found that she was in the lunchroom, and she was pretty sure she stood near the school's entrance and heard someone asking about a shrine for some local god or the other last time she noticed. Oh, well, she thought to herself. She started toward one of the tables, but then spotted a familiar face. She almost shouted 'good afternoon, Doctor,' but then remembered that this was probably her daughter.
Instead she walked up to Elena. "Good afternoon," she said, her Japanese heavily accented.
Elena blinked in surprise. "Oh, uh, good afternoon," she replied. "How are you?" She asked awkwardly.
"I'm fine, thanks," Maya said, tilting her head and smiling. "You're Burke, Elena Burke, are you not? Dr. Burke's daughter?"
Elena nodded. "Yes, how do you know my mother? Do you work with her?" She asked.
"Well, sort of," Maya said. "My name's Maya Friedlander, I come from Israel and I'm eighteen years old." She struck a pose as she said that. Obviously she was used to introducing herself. "I am a soldier of the IDF Desert Lynx Battalion. I have indeed met your mother in her workplace, partly because I am on loan to that very organisation. Still, that's rather heavy, and not something to be discussed on an empty stomach... I hear tell they're serving Teriaki today?"
Papers were scattered out across a lunch table off in the corner of the large, busy room. Pali sat behind them all, hunched over the table and studying the various information, dotting on the sheets with a fine pen. They were different surveys taken from various classrooms, asking various questions of the students as to get a statistical hold on who they are. It was something the schools did around the beginning of a new semester, and Pali was volunteered to collect all the information together. Not that she minded, for she would have asked to do it herself anyway - she was always fond of the school staff and enjoyed assisting them.
Though it did cut into her time to socialize, she had to admit. She was becoming more and more well known as the girl that was always just sort of "there," an awkward space in socialization where she wasn't really "friends" with anyone, but was consider a decent enough acquaintance to have around. It was a space she appreciated, anyway.
Asami blinked, and inclined her head. There was a girl running towards her. That was kind of surprising, really, she thought everyone else would be eating lunch right now... Well, she didn't mind. Asami did like talking to people, after all, especially if they were interesting in getting their picture taken. Especially if they were girls interested in getting their picture taken.
Asami always felt that girls were much more photogenic, in her opinion.
"Hello," she said, smiling pleasantly at the approaching girl.
The school with the candidates wasn't too far off. They'd be arriving soon.
It was coming closer, and closer... it wouldn't be long until they detected it, and it would be then that everything became far more urgent.
Kirika smiled brightly at Asami. "You're a photographer, right? The school's planning on having a big, field trip sort of thing for the classes to watch the cherry blossoms - a giant viewing party, pretty much, and we kinda need someone to take pictures of the event."
Date grimaced in pain. All morning long he had been fighting for his life, leaving bright crimson gashes across the formerly pure white battlefield in front of him. Still, for him the battle raged on and there was neither rest nor reward. No matter how skillfully he wielded his weapon stroke after stroke just seemed to leave his hands feeling cramped and tired while hardly putting a dent in the number of adversaries before him.
Truly he was once again facing his worst foe...
"PAPERWORK!"
Date Muramasa. Muramasa Date
He kept having to sign his name in the same red ink over and over again, sometimes even in English. Still, no matter how many forms he signed off on it seemed like more kept stacking up on his desk every day! It was hard enough to write properly with his eye-patch in the way as it was, but there were just so many forms and it was all so totally boring.
But the paperwork had to get done! Practically everything required paperwork and according to these forms it was all vital to making sure his base was well stocked, his forces were well equipped and everything was being seen to about the arrival of the candidates so he kept on-
"Ah, those candidates should be arriving today. I wonder if I should oversee the preparations personally or..."
He glanced back at the mountain of papers with his one uncovered eye, grimaced again and shook his fist at the impudent bureaucracy that dared to torment him!
Maybe if he rushed through the next dozen sheets, he could get out of his office a little.
