Kugel had 6 months advantage on Ledo, given the latter arrival on Earth and sitting on the ocean's floor in stasis, but it seems to me that the events of the OVA require a bit more time to evolve than just those + the duration of the whole series — unless the series depicted the events of 6+ months.

I think that the almost explicit expy-ness of Linaria with Amy is intended as a "there but for the grace of god" point. Kugel is almost exactly like Ledo, except for his mecha being much more strict about the rules of the federation. well, that and the fact that Kugel ended up in a community of religious nuts, as opposed to the mostly secular community of the Gargantia (which actually kept Kugel and Striker from growing as part of the community).

Sugitabot priority was always help Ledo grow as a individual, with the Alliance's will being secondary. Striker's was always to follow the code of the Alliance.

Linaria's sisters, especially the oldest blonde one, are such jerks just to try to kill her and then kill those loyal to her. Not only because her father left the Fleet to her, but also because she believed in the same Sky God that her dad is implied to have believed in. Plus it's good to see pirates being pirates and no one complaining when he kills some of them in those attacks that damaged several ships.

Kugel was really decent while he was alive, before Linaria died. He seemed to adapt to Earth morals much more readily than Ledo, although that could be the quicker pacing, but I don't think that's all it is. That fleet was pretty much screwed before he and Striker came along, so it turns out they were not responsible for ruining everything. Striker is quite evil, but we knew that already.

Also I don't think Linaria is much like Amy, from what we saw of her. They both have pet squirrels and are around the same age.

Those Hideauze just can't get a break. Also I was hoping Oceanid would be a gigantic, visibly intelligent Hideauze rather than many small squids that died quickly.

That...was a pretty awesome episode. Wow.

Well, IIRC there was some rumors about a sequel second season, so that makes sense.

Wasn't there supposed to be an ova of Ledo's life with the alliance before the start of the series as well? I recall hearing about it.

the OVA was more well balanced in terms of slice of life/plot than the actual series.

as an aside: I have to admit that the random Italian swear word that Lukkage used at the end was hilarious, but managed to yank me out of that particular scene. I don't expect people in the far flung future to have preserved contemporary italian swear words… plus, I cannot really decide whether she used it wrong or actually right…

I think that kind of post service seems rather excessive for the size of the fleet. Not that they have a post service, but the size of it seems large.

I wonder if those two ever stop teasing. Gazing into each others' eyes, sure, but not quite the same thing. That's the kind of focused gaze of someone who wants to know more, rather than someone who's actually looking.

As long as a ship doesn't crash back, there's no reason to sink it. And if it's going to crash back, it's probably going to do it before they can sink it. Those things don't tend to sink quickly. Although they can, if rigged properly for it.

I find it very odd that the ship would lean that much, that long. Ships are kind of made to float upright.

I wonder why he'd want to release pressure. If he's down so far that water pressure is an issue, he'd want a higher pressure in the boat he's in so the difference is lower. Or is it a different type of pressure?

It's kind of stupid to just stand on the surface and sulk about it being too dangerous to dive. I mean, they can at least dive a little bit down to see what the damage is.

Not sure about "Pirate", but there's no doubting the "Great" part.

In hindsight, that was a flashback, wasn't it? Chamber isn't really alive.

Lukkage was great in this special, and the drama was good.

Still, if they dubbed it, it should "Dread Pirate Lukkage".

Saw the OVA, and I gotta say, this is what I thought Madoka Magica Rebellion would have been. Something set after the events of the anime with a flashback or two to untold stories, and ending on a Sequel Hook.

I did not except episode 15 to be referenced.

As for Reema/Leema/Rima, any fears of her getting in between Amy and Ledo are unfounded but she is much more than she seems. Will be interesting to see what part 2 holds.

So I just learned of and finished marathoning this like half an hour ago. Holy fuck Chamber is best grill. And best character. The only other robot I've wept for is Legion.

That was just beautiful.

And reading the last few pages of this thread has raised and shattered my spirit faster than anything ever has. That novel better get translated, dammit!
