I think Ruby has demonstrated quite often that she is capable leader or at least has the potential to become one. The Nevermore, Paladin and Tyirian fights showed that she is perceptive and able to think on the spot. A favorite moment of hers was when they had arrived in Haven. Qrow and Lionheart were arguing, but it was Ruby who managed to make them stop and focus on what is actually important. Unlike with Jaune, her attributes are not informed. She is a good team leader and a pure, simple soul. Ozpin may paint it as a good thing, but the later does have some downsides, which imo has been shown in Ruby's negative qualities.

Regarding the Granny, my first thought was that was related to the Relic. Since it is a lamp, maybe she is like the Genie in the bottle. She even has the blue color scheme. I think her attire suggests that she is connected to Mistral in some kind of fashion.

[up][up]Only because Rey got him enough to actually decide to do something.

Hell, RWBY pretty much copy Kylo in both movie even if there was not way they could, that is impresive.

Since we're only a few days away from the premiere, I think we should lock the main work pages until at least the 27th or the following week (November 3rd). Any objections?

Are we leaving the character pages open to editing?

while we're on the topic of spoilers tomorrow (Oct 25) is the RWBY Fathom Event that is showing the first episode of volume 6.

Now I think that no one on here is going (am not) but there will be spoilers floating around are we going talk about them or just wait for the premiere on Oct 27?

Like I said, I think preemptively locking the main articles under RWBY against early bird spoilers would work until at least October 27th or November 4th; this is going to go nuts with lockouts once they are opened. There's going to be people who will vandalize the pages with untagged spoilers then abuse the edit-lock system to keep them until they're suspended. As such, I'm thinking of a few suggestions using the approach taken with The Force Awakens.

TFA was a special case and I seriously doubt anybody will actively try to abuse to edit lock system.

Locking the pages isn't necessary since the paywall window is so short. If people don't want to be spoiled then they can wait a couple days to watch the show for free.

wild mass guess Jaune - my plan was to let Weiss get stabbed to jump start my semblance or make Ruby activate her special eyes. Nora was supposed to break Cinder's legs, but I guess that part of that plan was forgotten... wild mass guess

Hey guys. Got tired of procrastinating about returning to this thread for so long, especially after I realized that Volume 6 is due to start in a few days. So... What did I miss?

Side note: There may have been some miscommunication the last time I was here. I am disappointed that much of the fighting with Ruby and co. got glossed over in favor of jumping all over the place from outside the academy building to the Vault of the Fall Maiden, especially after Weiss got her power-up and Ruby and Yang started teaming up against Emerald and Mercury.

Speaking of which, that's something that really bugs me: How the hell did Ruby and Yang cope with Emerald's Semblance? They appeared to be at a stalemate by the time Yang decides to make a break for the Vault; I know Emerald's Semblance strains her considerably when she applies to just two people, but you'd think CRWBY would've at least shown Ruby and Yang figuring out a workaround.

I'm still more stunned that Qrow was right there and they asked Ruby what the plan was. The line doesn't really bother me.

I would expect team-mates to instinctively turn to their team leader for direction, rather than an 'outsider'.

In Volume 4, Qrow wasn't involved with Team RWBY. He was involved with Team RNJR. He openly admitted to RNJR that he didn't know what to do without Ozpin there, and was hoping that Leo did. He didn't take leadership of RNJR, he gave them information then spent the rest of the volume on the verge of death.

In Volume 5, Qrow initially seemed to be hoping that Leo would take charge of the situation, which (to his consternation) didn't happen as expected. Ruby kept intervening during that meeting as an equal, not a subordinate. At one point, she was even the one behaving like the adult in the room, and that one meeting sent Qrow bolting for the nearest bar to crawl inside a bottle.

Given how ridiculously happy Qrow was to have Ozpin back, the fact he was openly at a loss without Ozpin around, and that his first stress point (with Leo) sent him straight for the alcohol, Qrow not only has this 'lone wolf' persona, but he actually shows signs of not being leadership material.

Now, all that was with Team RNJR. Team RWBY has no reason to turn to Qrow for leadership because they only reunited after Ozpin had met up with RNJR and Qrow. The only question to ask, would be if Ruby would turn to Qrow for leadership, and I feel Volume 5 has done more than enough to make it clear that she doesn't do that.

I therefore have no problem with Ruby being viewed as the leader despite Qrow's presence or with the idea that he'd let her take leadership responsibility.

The real question will be the leadership dynamic between Ruby and Ozpin, where Ozpin automatically assumed control over Team RNJR and Qrow, but is also the kind of character would be inclined to let Ruby take charge at awkward or unpredictable moments just to see how she'd cope — because that's what trolls do (it's good practice for Ruby).

So how are things going to work on the thread this time around concerning spoilers? Given that when one episode goes free to watch the next will be premiering on the site, are we putting a hold on current episode spoilers until it goes free, or what?

Wyldchyld (Old as dirt)
#56250: Oct 26th 2018 at 9:58:52 AM

Locking the pages isn't necessary since the paywall window is so short. If people don't want to be spoiled then they can wait a couple days to watch the show for free.

I think the problem is that the general public get the episode a week after the sponsors — at exactly the same time the sponsors get the new episode. What do you think is going to happen come Week 2? The general public will be trying to edit Week 1 tropes at the same time sponsors are trying to edit Week 2 tropes — which is spoiler information for the general public. How will conversations happen on this forum thread? Public watchers will be trying to discuss the Week 1 episode while the sponsors want to talk about the Week 2 episode, which will be spoiler information for the general public.

I don't see how this is going to work. Either sponsors get banned from editing RWBY pages for an entire week after they watched the episode, or the general public have to stay away from both RWBY pages and the the RWBY forum thread for months until the show has ended, just to avoid having the next episode constantly spoiled. Plus, you can't ban sponsors from editing pages throughout the volume without also banning the general public from doing the same — so locking pages isn't going to work either.

The Discussion thread is easily solved. I never used to be a fan of creating a second forum thread for sponsors, but this seems to be the most sensible option to allow sponsors to discuss their episode access without worrying about spoiler tagging, while the original RWBY thread remains a week behind, and therefore spoiler-sensitive.

As for troping, my only suggestion is what I suggested months ago — we place bold-font warnings on the RWBY pages asking sponsors to honour their privilege access by not troping episodes on work and character pages until they're available for the general public a week later, but that they can trope freely on the Recap pages, which public viewers shouldn't be going to unless they want to be spoiled (just like the RWBY sponsor thread).

I don't view either 'two RWBY threads' or 'troping only Recap pages for a week before general (work/character) troping' as being ideal, but I don't know what else to suggest without the wiki and forum becoming a no-go area for either sponsors or the general public. At least this way, sponsors are only partially inconvenienced for a week, as opposed to the general public being inconvenienced for months on end until the volume has finished airing.
