Legally no, Cinder was attempting to murder her and depending on how the Grimm arm works potentially steal her soul and trap it inside her, that would make her killing of Cinder self-defence. Morally same boat.

As for how team RWBY would react to that I think that is up in the air at the moment. While Jaune and Ruby might want Cinder dead at the moment for what she's done, that's something that's fuelled by rage. Whilst I don't expect any tears from anyone present it'd be interesting to see how they'd react to being involved with the taking of a human life.

At the moment the one thing I want clarified more than anything else is if the Maiden transfer works the same way as Ozpin's does. You would think that if it did then Ozpin would have mentioned that's how it would always work to Phyrra rather than imply that ifit happened it was because of the Aura merging, but I still can't get out of my head how Qrow describes the maiden transfer using the exact same words as Ozpin explaining his condition to Oscar (which is both saying that the souls are combined). It would make sense and leads to horrifying possibilities if Grimm arm steals Maiden's souls as well as their power.

Yeah, there's plenty of crimes to charge Raven for (kidnapping Weiss just for starters). Killing a terrorist isn't going to be one of them.

Cinder's fine. Raven didn't get a sudden power-up from absorbing the Fall Maiden's powers. The only other person who might have been in Cinder's final thoughts had she died would be Emerald, who didn't get sudden Fall Maiden powers either.

That said, as noted, Cinder instigated the altercation. Raven has pretty a ironclad claim to self-defense. She was even in an enclosed space with no reasonable capacity to escape, fulfilling the Requirement to Retreat clause found in many self-defense laws. No jury would ever convict her.

As an aside, I am fascinated by the fact that Cinder seems to be trying to absorb all four Maiden powers into herself. I kinda want her to succeed just to see what would happen.

We can't rule out the possibility that Cinder sent her powers to some random young woman.

It’s not like Cinder would be the first person Raven killed. She is at least in part responsible for the destruction of several villages, and almost certainly killed the last Spring Maiden.

Ruby also could have been in Cinder's thoughts.

Normally, I be opposed to that idea, as Ruby becoming a Maiden would be a cliche, but that might be an interesting idea if her gaining Maiden powers conflicted with her sliver eyes.

Like each time she uses the eyes, there's a backlash between the two powers that slowly results her going blind with her eyes eventually being destroyed.

You can't really say that someone with teleportation abilities doesn't have the capacity to escape.

Just realized if Raven did off Cinder for real, then she would be a murderer. I know Team RWBY is non-violence like most shounen heroes so.

Eh, Cinder started it by flash freezing Raven and impaling Vernal. Not to mention all of the trouble she caused in Beacon. She deserved everything that happened to her.

And I don't think the heroes are all that opposed to death. Remember the train fight?

In regards to the Weiss and Vernal fight there is also the fact that Weiss believed she was fighting the spring maiden so it would make sense to want to utilize a summon even if it seemed pretty clear Vernal was not going to give her the time to pull it off.

Something that just came to mind with the whole "if Raven killed Cinder she's a murderer" is that Raven quite probably murdered the previous Spring Maiden. She can dress it up however she likes but I'm going to assume the previous maiden did not want to die. How exactly would the rest of RWB and Tai think of that?

And like previously mentioned she's caused a lot of death while running her bandit tribe.

Tai adds it to the long list of reasons they divorced and tells Qrow his sister is crazy. Qrow somberly agrees with this and helps himself to Tai's booze. Yang and Weiss compare their horrible parents.

Raven doesn't even seem like the settling down type. I imagine they had sex, and then nine months later she chucked a swaddled Yang through a portal like a football, and tells Tai "Your fault for not wearing a condom. You deal with it!"

Even though Raven was the one who insisted Tai not wear a condom.

IIRC, didn't she recognize her on sight despite her mask? And then she had that weird dream where Raven took off her mask.

I mean, what would you assume when you saw an older (though she really doesn't look that much older) version of yourself with different hair?

Also what the fuck was with that stinger, anyway? Was it ever explained what happened when Raven showed up at Beacon and told Yang "we need to talk"? Or did she just fuck off immediately?!

From my understanding it was snuck in and may not mean much of anything at this point. I could be mistaken though.

Lets face it, that would not be out of character for Raven.

I mean as a child. Obviously she's aware of Raven when the series starts, but did itty bitty Goldilocks know Summer wasn't her mom?

Edit: Nevermind, just watched the Blake talk and Yang indicates she wasn't aware of Raven until after Summer died. Raven left Yang with Tai right after she was born.

x3 Supposedly Monty animated that scene and then threw it to Miles to include or something along those lines. I've read previously it was another case of Monty throwing things in without telling the rest of the crew ahead of time.

She only found out after Summer's death.
