I wonder if this thread will see more use in future, but probably not because its easier to have all D&D like system talk in single thread :'D
Because of the D&D OGL controversy, Paizo has announced they are developing an Open RPG Creative Licence (ORC). It's a system agnostic, meaning any publisher can come in and contribute open rules reference documents for their own game systems with Paizo paying for the legal work. Kobold Press, Chaosium, Green Ronin, Legendary Games, and Rogue Genius Games are some of the publishers that have agreed to take part in this.
just be warned that paizo's management wasnt any better than wotc's; it maybe likely changed since then since they didnt challenge the union, but just be careful that some suit who kept their head low gets their head big again and reenacts stupid bullshit down the line

hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadThe post says it won't be owned by Paizo.
I'm not a lawyer nor am I saying Paizo wouldn't ever lie but if my understanding is correct Paizo simply wouldn't have the ability to change it.
There are something like half a dozen third-party providers who joined Paizo in this. Unless they were all complicit in a hypothetical lie, they would have spoken up if there was a catch.
I'm starting to wonder if I should try Pathfinder instead of D&D5e. For one thing, they have a website for just making a charter sheet for fun.
But they don't have the Fun build I want to try. Fairy Artificer.
Ye could make pixie inventor instead if ye don't mind the precise flavor
Okay but can she have a Mech? I just think it would be nice to have a small cute thing in a mech. A Mech version of Giant's Knife; Human's Greatsword. That's what I want.
Oh that meme I made when I first got into D&D is a Pathfinder class.

Mechs are more of starfinder thing, though I guess you could make inventor whose innovation is power armor. That or ride the construct companion.
Tiny/small creature riding small/medium/large sized construct isn't too far off I guess x'D

Just to revitalize this thread a bit, what are your opinions of the upcoming Remastered edition? After all the mess that happened with WOTC, the new Pathfinder editions are going to try and leave their 3.5 D&D roots behind even more... which means, among other things, that Character Alignment will be dropped, that "metallic" and "chromatic" dragons will be done away with, and that drow will be retconned away.
And honestly, I don't really like this. It just won't have the same feel as the game I've enjoyed so far. I understand why Paizo took this decision, but I still don't think I'm going to pour any money in this new edition.
Losing drow/cavern elves is a bummer, bit its a sign of the times. Ties with WotC are being cut all over.
The dragons are conceptually interesting. I'll need to see more.
Alignment is whatever.
Always remember, however, the GM has final say over whats in their game. If Paizo cuts material you like, you can just add it back in.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireThe diabolic dragon's design is sick. I'm really into what they're doing visually with Pathfinder lately.
Most of these changes sound like they're for the better for the most part - I'll always appreciate Paladin being a sort of forced roleplay class, but we've all heard and in a lot of cases experienced the horror stories, so it's whatever. If your GM cares enough, similar ideas can be applied to any class you play.
I think all those changes are at least lateral if not better. The drow have never been particularly prominent outside the AP that introduced them, and they don't really have a distinct identity compared to their D&D counterparts. The two types of dragons are also quite emblematic to D&D, and haven't been revised much since their inception, leaving a lot of conceptual space ripe for exploration. And alignment works for some specific high-fantasy settings, but is not great as an universal descriptor.
@Zeromaus: I mean Cavern Elves still exist. Actually I guess they technically exist more post drow removal than before (the new cavern elves Ayindir(sp?) aren't replacement drow, drow cities are now serpentfolk cities, but they exist to provide more friendly faces and locales in darklands)
Where are you guys all getting this info from?
Me? Paizocon online 2023 panels and paizo.com forums
How can Kitsune have such big noses and still not have even 'imprecise scent' as a feature?
My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureSay, should I create a character page for the Abomination Vaults AP within the Pathfinder subpage?
Come to think about it, somebody should mention here that Starfinder 2e is going to be a thing
Huh, with the right spells it looks like mages can summon both snakes 'and' ladders
My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureSo the new classes, Animist and Exalted, look pretty neat. I like how they're making a big story out of what I assume is a removal of the D&D gods.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireEeeh to be clear, this was in the plans BEFORE OGL removal the way paizo production goes.
I think Drift Crisis on starfinder style was them trying out "big setting event" so this is the first one they are doing for pathfinder?
Does Pathfinder have any Dn D gods that aren't public domain names?
Nope. Did OGL even allow any of them in first place?
because i am completely smooth-brained, have played pathfinder in the distant past, played it semi-recently in three different sessions (and one didn't get to combat, and the other two were vastly simplified because we had more than fifteen people at each table - con night), and have been internalising a lot of DND 5e, is there anything a semi-returning noob should be aware of when joining a PF Society game?
