Binged through the new Duck Tales. They're... really, really good, better than the old ones even.

The old Ducktales wasn’t that good to begin with and has aged poorly.

It’s very Saturday morning cartoon by the standards of today.

Speaking of nostalgic things, I went to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters today. Great movie that fixes all the problem that brought the previous movie down. The amount of awesome Kaiju action is staggering and there are a lot of nods to the classic Godzilla movies.

I give it fucking awesome/10

I should check out Duck Tales. Never watched a singe episode of the original, but I heard good things about it.

Also, it seems that Shokugeki no Soma has ended. I'm gonna take a wild guess that it ended horribly.

I...you know what, all right. I've seen much worse endings. One of the mangas I'm reading, The Quintessential Quintuplets, is certainly heading towards one anyway. (grumbles grumbles)

On the other hand, I finished Wadanohara. That game had a great ending, at least in my opinion.

Yep.

dRoy: Is it a thing in Korean entertainment to just not mention North Korea ever? I've been reading some Korean webcomics, webnovels, comics and so on and while Japan comes up a hell of a lot and China occasionally, North Korea is conspicuously absent even when it really ought to be mentioned.

A few webnovels by this guy called Toika/Toy Car have a lot of references to Japanese pop culture and acknowledgement of politics around Korea, except when it comes to two Koreas. Webcomic called The Gamer about how there are X countries with particularly strong/abundant amounts of magic people that talks about China, Japan and Korea but no 'South' Korea, just Korea. Novel about this dude who gets pulled into a weird training program called The Tutorial and so on. No oblique or explicit references to the fact that Korea is kinda split down the middle.

Among them the only ones that I'm somewhat familiar with is The Gamer, but I think I get your point.

Hmm...I think it's mostly because as South Korea became overwhelmingly stronger than North Korea, the latter has become so unimportant in the minds of a lot of people, to the point of being just an oversight.

I dunno, that's just a guess. I haven't read any webtoons or webnovels with long, overarching narrative arc for a while.

The only Korean webcomic that I've read that mentions North Korea is The God of High School. I didn't read that many tho.

Honestly, nowadays the only webtoons that do prominently mention North Korea are the ones where they are at the center stage of the story, like stories about North Korean spies.

I guess it helps that nowadays the anti-North Korean sentiment has decreased noticably, at least in comparison to anti-Chinese and anti-Japanese sentiment.

Oh yeah, speaking of which, Korea and Japan is now engaged in a trade war, the very first of its kind between them. I'm not going to comment further, because there's no way I can do it without being biased.

All I can say is that a lot od Koreans are now royally pissed at Japan and there is a full blown Japanese products boycott across the nation, with major store chains pulling Japanese goods off their shelves and sales of once popular Japanese brands in Korea plummeting.

Wow. For the better or worse, I feel like I'm living a moment that would later be mentioned in a future history text.

And one guy keeps rubbing it in my face about how he scored every couple of weeks....

Wander, let him have his fun. Making a single goal in soccer once every three weeks is pretty sad on its own, he doesn't need you dragging him down as well.

[up][up]There's so many footballs. Australian, Canadian, American, real...
In any case, I was curious if there was an app that had decently nice people on it. I haven't had much luck, but too much solitude isn't ideal. Then again, the people in this city/country are less than ideal...

Association football is the oldest sports to officially use the title. Granted, the English I learned is American English so I'm introduced to the word soccer first, but frankly, I've always wondered why American Football is called football when you spend the majority of the game using hands.

Sure, I know that it's because how the sport is played on foot rather than on horses like ball games during that time, but come on, you can't really infer that from the name football.

Then again, it's well over a century that both sports adopted the word in their own ways and they are firmly established in the respective culture. It's not going to change anything or anyone's mind, so I guess it's a pointless argument.

Unfortunately, American Football is America's most sacred institution. More than education, service, religion, consistent voting, etc. So you're not changing many minds, like you said.

Though tribalism and celebrity worship may be catching up on it. Still, American Football (as with other pro sports) implicates tribalism and celebrity worship, anyway.

I heard of that kind of analysis involving American society and football, and frankly, I think it raises a good point.

Who knows, for all I know soccer has the same kind of presence in places like...I dunno, UK or Brazil.
