Honestly, humanity is bad at the core. If a woman ran the world, absolutely jack shit would be done, except the world leader would have tits.

Blaming things on gender is stupid. Humanity does what it does together as one genderless conglomerate blob. There is no cause based on gender, people - and I mean PEOPLE, of ALL races and genders - have committed the atrocities that we have. That is why this extreme "feminism" is bad, it exists solely to knock men off the top spot. This could cause a large-scale power-shift in the longterm, but when the dust settles, what's changed? Nothing. The rich are still getting richer, the poor are still getting poorer, and humanity is still a pile of shit. If equality is attained, we can at least shoulder the blame equally and cause a little less friction in the world.

But still, sexism is nothing but an ant-hill compared to racism. That's what we've got to tackle.

Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.

Honestly, humanity is bad at the core.

Definitely disagree with that. There's ample anthropological evidence to the contrary.

Blaming things on gender is stupid. Humanity does what it does together as one genderless conglomerate blob.

You really have no conception of what women's rights are like internationally. :I

There is no cause based on gender

LOL

people - and I mean PEOPLE, of ALL races and genders - have committed the atrocities that we have.

Is this supposed to have any relevance to sexism at all? Or anything really? -_-

That is why this extreme "feminism" is bad, it exists solely to knock men off the top spot.

And the problem with wanting us both to be equal is...?

This could cause a large-scale power-shift in the longterm, but when the dust settles, what's changed? Nothing.

Aren't you forgetting the most important thing? The entire point of any movement for equality is, obviously, equality. You know, the desire to be treated as a person? Isn't that intrinsically desirable? And if we somehow got rid of the divide between rich and poor, but kept gender roles, there would still be a huge problem. Same goes for race.

But still, sexism is nothing but an ant-hill compared to racism. That's what we've got to tackle.

I don't think so. Really.

Uh, it's okay. :/ Whatever that means. Sorry, I'm pretty passionate when it comes to gender stuff. <_< I try to avoid looking at stuff like this, but just was browsing and couldn't stop myself from commenting. >_<

@Mallard last page: Yup. Women being 'masculine' is usually more forgiveable than men being feminine. Sucks for everybody, doesn't it?

Well, it is, as Mallard says, basically sexism against women because it makes acting or dressing like a woman out to be a shameful or weak or generally bad thing.

But in practice, it has a worse effect on men. So... yeah.

Maybe that's why men's rights and masculism, those sort of movements, aren't getting up as much steam as feminism has. Feminists just had to get women to want what men had, which everybody agreed was valuable and desirable. But getting rid of male gender roles is harder, because men tend not to want any female-associated things, because they've been told for so long that they're not desirable?

Just a thought.

Yeah, women may get the "being like a guy is cool since they're better" stuff, but at least no one ridicules them like men get ridiculed for it.

Of course, really butch women do get ridiculed as well.

Eh... Judging whether men or women get the short end of the stick and how "Big" an issue sexism is really depends on the geocultural context you're thinking about. Naturally some societies or cultures are way more oppressive or discriminating of women than others.

But it's largely universal that anything associated with femininity is frowned upon on men :/

Boys are very much persecuted for doing "womanly" things, more so than women doing "manly" things, though both persecutions exist.

Bronies are probably the most understanding group in regards to that. They watch a "girly" show in which several female characters have "manly" characteristics.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

You know, as a short side note, I'm yet to really see people bashing bronies like they claim they do. Other than that kids react thing.

Hell, if anything, bronies are mostly given shit by other bronies as far as I can tell.

I've gotten some hate for being a brony. Mostly from a friend who hates MLP with the heat of a thousand suns. But, also from my other friends who's reaction ranges from teasing about it to 'You're weird for watching MLP'.

@Clothing: Well, there's a difference between "woman wearing pants" and "woman wearing men's clothing. A woman might still get crap for wearing actual men's clothing, especially if it's obvious that she's wearing men's clothing. However it will be nothing compared to the crap a guy would get for going out in public in a dress.

I would think that crossdressers understand this specific gender disparity more so than people who watch a television show.

I mean, I get crap for watching The Powerpuff Girls, but I'm not saying that it makes me an expert on feminism in the superhero genre. I don't think it gives me any authority at all.

I am of the opinion that the way to fix this would be to rid of classifying things as "masculine" or "feminine". The only differences between male and female should be whether or not they can naturally carry a child and other anatomical differences and their associated features. Why should being nurturing and taking care of kids be feminine? Why should wearing a dress be feminine? Why should combat and other physical competition be masculine?

I'd say that kids should be allowed to choose different things to like and do regardless of their gender. Boys should be allowed to play with Barbie dolls and girls should be allowed to play with toy guns as well as things that are more traditionally associated with their gender. This association of arbitrary groups of things with what is fundamentally an anatomical difference needs to stop.

Hey, I used to play Barbies when I was young.

...

What? It's true.

That was waaaay before I started learning anatomy though.

I'm not saying that children need to be shielded from the very existence of genitals. I'm just not sure what valid purpose they would serve on a plastic moulded action figure.
